Mod My Toyota Supra - Part 1 of 2

Jun 09, 2021
Welcome to modifying my Supra, where we will surprise our friend Bin with some modifications on his 90, so I borrowed this 2020 Supra with the idea that we will use it in a track test that we will do and we will give you a little more information about that more later, but we figured as long as we have the car here for a few days, why don't we surprise VIN with some tasteful and I think very tasty modifications? You'll agree and that's not just because he'll notice the car for a few days, but it's actually because he's been an old friend of ours, he was our crew chief at Targa Newfoundland and back in the day when Pete and I still had a modified mag , he had one of the first Scion. fr-s who let us take a bunch of

part

s to track testing to create a ton of content for the magazine and we even created some content when we started Speed Academy.

Our first tire test, I think, was on his FRS. at TMP so to speak, thanks for all that support, let's tune them up a little bit here, make the car a little faster, sound a little better and I think it'll look a little better, so with that being said, Let's start here, Petey, maybe let's start with the exhaust system? I think it doesn't need polishing, it's already ceramic coated, right? We should mention that our friend cavil up, to make it shine, has done it. a complete polish to the paint, it's a clear bra or PPF on the front, I think he put the hood on the bumper and the rest was ceramic coated, so here we are under the A 90 and it's interesting to look at the exhaust system and all the flat rocker panels and all the heat reflective materials they used under here, this is a well designed car, you can tell it was built like a proper sports car and looking at the exhaust system we are replacing it from the ground up. catback, so we will NOT remove the catalytic converter or change the downpipe.

More Interesting Facts About,

mod my toyota supra part 1 of 2...

We know it's a prudent way to make a lot of power in this car, but this car is new and still under warranty. We don't want to void Vin's warranty. that's knowledge so that's something he can do he can worry about downpipes and tunes we just want to add some sound and some horsepower oh she was a little feisty there PT that slip joint on the flexible jack joint here. It was a double take to get off and imagine if it really was rusty. I mean, these cars have never been seen driving in winter, they are totally rust free here and yet it was still hard to get out there, so if they drove their super, everyone and wanted to. change your exhaust system, we wish you good luck and we may need a torch or something to remove that

part

, but it's crazy and it's just one piece, yes it's one piece, which makes it a little heavy, it's heavy 60 pounds. or about 27 kilograms, this section weighs and you can see it's quite interesting, it's not like this oval eye area here, I guess for ground clearance purposes, and then this really unique looking resonator goes into a 70 tube mil here and the ice squishes out quite a bit so we're definitely going to lose a little bit of flow here and then it goes back to 70 mil in the rear on this huge canister muffler and yeah at 60 pounds.

I guess we're going to save a little bit of weight, but most importantly I think we're going to improve the flow level because we won't have all these crush bin areas and here we go everyone, this is our amazing fit system for the e90

supra

and it comes in a bunch of different flavours, we have gone with their touring kit with a with no resonators or non-resonant system, as you can see it has these two rear muffler sections which include their 180 technology which is a patented technology by awwe that cancels the drone, so this system actually comes with a no drone warranty, it also comes with one or a one year warranty on the finish of this Black Diamond coated finish on these five inch tips, which I think looks very nice, although you can also get it in a chrome finish if you prefer and the rest of the system, which is already done. 304 stainless steel comes with a lifetime warranty, so these guys really stand behind their product.

Everything is designed, engineered and manufactured in-house at an aw tunings facility in the Philadelphia area, right next to our friends at turn 14 where we met them several times. super cool guys, so it's really exciting to be able to use your product here and one last thing I have to mention is, man, look how cool, this section of Inlet is stamped like this, like it has some really beautiful work. so let's get to work, bolt it on, there you have it, our Turing exhaust system is in place and looking great, and man the slider fit takes a little patience to get them lined up and fully engaged so You have to wait a while to fully adjust it, but it allows you to get a very good fit because of all that adjustability and if it's like other slide-fit exhausts I've used before, you'll have to go back. maybe three days or a week later and tighten things up again, maybe give it a little adjustment because as it warms up it moves a few times, so maybe I'll have the honor of driving this for a few days and trying it out. that, but you'll also notice that I installed the sport exhaust actuator here on that billet, it's going to be a great piece that's going to keep the throttle or check engine light from coming on with that system and now it lives under here in a It's a nice place and Sure, it's like an emulator.
I think it's not a beep. That should be a great guarantee. In fact, you will never get a check engine light with this system and as you go along you will see that it fits very well. I mean, I love these 5 inch black diamond prongs. I think they fit the style of the rear bumper very well. It's a very subtle look. You can adjust how far they stick out if you want. We just went for a simple, clean and nice look. falls in the right place, I'm very happy with its fit and I'm very excited to hear it light up, but you'll have to wait until almost the end of this episode to hear it because we have others.
It's very difficult to do first to get performance under the hood. We are going to install an air intake. We thought a lot about doing penstocks and all that, but again we want to keep it simple and we want to make sure that this doesn't. void any warranty so first of all I have to thank Jeff Stone our sales rep at turn 14. You won't believe how hard it is to get an air intake for 2020 super at this time they were out of stock. Luckily, Jeff came out and found me a cold air intake for the engine, so thank you Jeff for coming out so we could install this on his car.
This intake has a 4 inch pipe and makes about 15 horsepower and 17 pound-feet of torque, so we'll be around about 20, the worst part with the exhaust system and there you have it, it looks good here . I'm excited to hear the engine intake. I know it's going to make some really awesome noises. We're moving on to some cosmetics here with this very nice carbon fiber front splitter from Rec Speed. This is a very high quality carbon twill piece, as you can see, and it has a glossy finish. You can also get it in a matte finish if you prefer. use that glass here it's a clear coat so it's a very high quality clear coat and the beauty of this is it doesn't require drilling it actually bolts up to all the factory points under the bumper so it gives you They supply all the hardware you need as well as about 3m. tape, so this should be a relatively easy install with screws, we're going to damage Vin's new super anyway, we're just going to make it look a lot cooler, so we lifted the edge just to see where they were all needed the bras. to come out and you can see that we've removed a bunch of the OE fasteners from their places as well as some of the plastic clips, and we've also dropped the back of this tray underneath so we can have our hand back up here because we're going to change some of these by a nut and bolt configuration.
Right now there is a plastic clip inside that has a screw, but Rex Pete says they aren't strong enough to handle them. I guess that's going to generate enough downforce, I said it would just break, so we're going to take those little clips out of there, use the lug bolt and that's going to secure it there properly, so here's our hardware, which you can see, it's got a little button. with Allen head. bolt with a washer and I have a nut on the inside of the bumper cover here now and I'm going to go through the hole if I can see it, it's a complicated job and with the two of us we have the two front ones and we already have to keep chasing this, but the struggle is real, but the fit looks like it's going to be really good, as you can see, this is tight against the body, it's going to fit really well here and that.
Fits exceptionally well. I will say that having a second set of hands for installation is really helpful because it's nice to be able to have one guy here, like run the bolt, maybe guide it with the Allen wrench and then have another guy. on the rear to put the nut on and you can do it yourself but it's a lot easier with a second person but if it's incredibly good I would say out of all the carbon style lip kits we've installed we install along the years, this is the one that fits the best, yes, we didn't have to make a hole or anything like that.
You're just saying everything is fine there, usually you go to an extreme and you like the holes, and it's what do we do like loosen things up and change them? This just happened so I guess they like to 3D scan the bottom of the car here to make it fit like this because this is actually really cool just took my fingerprints and The men, which looks good, took a fair amount of hits there, it just adds some aggression to the front end of this car, which I really like and a couple of things we should know, however, there is some damage to the front lip stop portion here and there.
Speed Academy didn't do it, that was done by VIN when he was testing loading this on his trailer yesterday, so don't blame us, everyone knows who's responsible for that. To install these Wreck Speeds side splitters, what we are going to have to do is remove a bunch of the factory fasteners and then your XP recommends using their fasteners. I had to look underneath. I don't know how that would work because maybe if I went through the inside of the chassis to get to the plastic clips on the chassis. side you could probably tie another knot there but I don't think that's possible so I'm going to reuse the factory fasteners on this side because what they do supply is a bunch of 3m tape that will be applied underneath and I think it should keep This is good, it is not like the front defuser, we are at high speed.
I don't think this is going to see any kind of real deviation. I just applied the supplied 3m double sided tape here and put it on. on the chassis instead of the splitter because I think it's going to be easier to install and now what I'm going to do is screw this in loosely and then we can peel off a little bit of that backing so it sticks to what I have. What I'm going to do now is just remove the backrest itself, put it in place and then I can bolt it on one last time to install the rear wheel, it's very similar to the other parts and that's what we're going to do. is to remove a couple of plastic clips and then we just need to access the back through the back here to attach the bolt and nut combo on this side.
Too easy. I can access it with my finger here, not so much, so we have I removed the steering wheel and what I'm going to do is I'm going to put my hand through the fender liner and then I can access this pretty easily and put it through there. Quick note: I actually had to open the bumper here to be able to swipe my finger here. and put this nut. I thought I just had to remove this, but it turns out you have to spread this out a little bit and then we can tighten this whole thing once this nut is here, like this, that rear point is screwed in and man, did it ever look good and I must say. all of these wreck pieces fit exceptionally well, very good, very good quality, very high quality sheer layers, the fabrics are all nice and straight and nothing has been pulled out so, and everyone really impressed with these. and the relative simplicity of installing them as we talked about from the beginning, well we ran out of time today so this is a summary of this episode, but in the next one we will complete the build and do the big VIN reveal, so stay tuned . for all that, but man, I don't know, but you guys, I love hearing what it sounds like and seeing what you look like.
