meal
prep
a little bit easier and these are things i do to get ready for the week so in case you enjoy the video, please give it. a thumbs up and also consider subscribing before you go so we usually take one day out of the week and go shopping as a family and before we go shopping I like to do aquick
little scan of the fridge just do some inventory and see if there is anything we are missing for the week that was not eaten and that way we know to buy less and gives the fridge a clean slate so that when it is time toprep
are themeal
everything has a home again but we like to do a vinegar wash with all of our fruits and veggies which is basically just a splash of white vinegar with a little bit of water and let it all soak for about two or three minutes we just use plain white vinegar we get it from Costco we usually buy a giant t bottle because we use it for so many different things and what it does is it helps clean your products from dirt it also helps prevent mold from growing on them and even though we try to buy t All of our organic produce this is Still good to do because sometimes your produce can touch other things that have chemicals in it and this will get rid of all of that, you'll notice we also vinegar wash things like limes and lemons because they show up in the same bales as the stuff that we eat and sometimes I like to grate a little for our sauces and I want it to be nice and clean.I don't want to have to do laundry at the last minute. We also take the time to individually dry each thing before putting it in its permanent home so mold doesn't grow on it so we can keep our lemons and limes on the counter I recently found these cool little papers on Amazon as well and they are really great basically just you take a little sheet and you can either put it directly in the drawer where you store your produce or you can put it inside different containers and this really helps keep it fresh for much longer.
It's pretty crazy and I was a little skeptical at first but it actually works really well By the way guys if you like these little containers that I keep my fruit in and I'll say on my food prep containers I'm giving away a whole set of them on my Instagram, all you have to do is follow me there. for the rules it's just that at Miz Liz Hart we love to use fresh herbs around here they tend to go bad pretty
quick
ly if you don't store them properly so one of my favorite ways to store things like green onions is to keep them in the plastic . bag it comes in and then you fill it up with water and stick it in the fridge and it will keep them alive much longer or you can also fill some mason jars with water and then store them like that on your counter though if you tend to keep your house a bit warm they may not live very long on your counter you may want to keep them in the fridge and you can cut them when you need them another thing that is also very time consuming when it comes to cooking is peeling the garlic and mincing it so I like to do all of that ahead of time and a little trick my mom taught me with garlic is to preserve it in olive oil and if you guys really take the individual pieces of garlic and shake them in a mason jar really hard it will actually make them really easy to peel and you don't have to break them so you put them in the olive oil and you can keep them in the fridge for about three or four days and you can use them put them in as you need them and they won't go bad.Super dipped now if you want your spices to last you more than a week and I would recommend freezing them and a really easy way to do that is to just get an ice cube tray and chop up all the spices you want to preserve you can mix them if you want, you can have garlic and parsley in one, maybe like cilantro and green onions and another, and then just fill the rest of the ice, follow up with extra virgin olive oil, and then you can freeze it. and these will stay good for two to three months in your freezer and then you can toss them in your hot pan when you're ready to use them and my last favorite way to preserve vegetables is pickled. concoction that I love right now is just apple cider vinegar maple syrup a little cayenne pepper and then salt seriously so good you basically just chop up whatever veggies I like red onion and then let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours and you can eat this on its own if you want you can add it to your food your salad it's so good.
I definitely think you should do what works for you in your family when it comes to preparing
meals
. I have portion tested it t all my nails in the past and while it worked it was a lot of work up front and now with the toddler I don't have time to do that so I do things a little differently now I still like to fully cook some items in advance, especially those that take a long time to cook, like quinoa rice, no skate sauce, good in the fridge for three to five days, which is great. One thing I have started to do when it comes to cooking things that require a liquid is I use bone broth instead of regular water, it will not only add extra flavor to your dishes but it will also add a lot more nutrients. very good and I will usually freeze half and a few zip-lock bags.I have perfect portions for four people and then I'll keep the other half in the fridge and can be eaten within three to five days, but a little trick. What I like to do especially to get my toddler to eat veggies is mix up a ton of really good veggies and add them to my spaghetti sauce so when it comes time to eat this we can eat the meats on their own. food itself I find things like fish and chicken don't really take that long to cook what takes a long time is making the marinade so I do whatever I find I already have it pre-mixed and just put it in a jar, I can usually remember exactly what I need, but if you guys are making different marinades that look similar, you might want to consider putting a label on your jar so you don't mix them up.
I'll be sure to leave the ingredients. to this marinade below, if you like, I also like to add fresh herbs, garlic, onion, sometimes, so it's really helpful if I can do all this work in advance and then when it comes to making dinner, it's very quick because my marinade is already made and i will usually make it like her et pan dinner which basically means no dirty pans. I'll set the oven to 450 degrees and I'll grill my veggies with olive oil first and I'll do that for about 15 minutes while I have my fish marinated in that premade marinade and then those 15 minutes have passed, then I'll get the pan out and add my fish and then I I'll cook for another 15 minutes and we're done, dinner is served, I can serve it with whatever salad I've made for our lunch week. it's typically salad, so I like to make sure we have plenty of options for our salads that we don't get sick of, so one of the things I love to do is as a fruit and vegetable dip. on what I bought that week sometimes I make mango salsa here I made a strawberry salsa I'll have the recipe below but basically it's strawberries cucumbers red onions and then for the dressing we have a little bit of sesame oil , some sesame seeds, balsamic vinegar and what I love about making sauces is you can add them to your salad and they can actually substitute your dressing because it starts to release its own juices from the fruits and vegetables or you can also add this on top of your chicken or on top of your fish to add a ton of flavor, I also make sure I have other options that don't have any sort of vinegar, just to make them a little more versatile and I can eat them throughout the day if I want. if i didn't want to have it in a salad then this is one of my favorites which is just tomatoes mozzarella i'll add a little basil to it.
I'll also make sure I have plenty of ingredients on hand and I like to keep them in the fridge to keep them fresh for much longer. I like to save things like walnuts, sliced almonds, cashews and store them in an airtight jar so they last much longer, which I really appreciate if you guys have never made your own dressing at home. or you don't know where to start you feel overwhelmed all you have to remember is the base of the dressing which is basically one part active to two parts oil so in this case the active is my balsamic vinegar and I'm making 1 /4 cup and then for the oil I'm using extra virgin olive oil and I'm using a half cup of that you can build on it from there you can add salt and pepper you can add Dijon mustard onions garlic have fun with this if you don't have any type. of vinegar.
Lemons also count as your acid, so you could make 1/4 cup of lemon and then 1/2 cup of extra-virgin olive oil in muffington is your best friend when it comes to preparing breakfast foods Me love making egg bites because you can customize them for everyone in the family you can make some with just egg whites you can make some without cheese others with bacon whatever your family likes if they are interested in the recipe I use I will link it to Next up I basically mix three different cheeses together a little bit of milk and put in a blender so it comes out nice and creamy and then I top it with whatever toppings I want if you guys have been following my channel for a long time you know one of my favorite combinations is goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes so I'm still making them to this day and they're so good they're actually my husband's favorite to make for about 15-17 minutes and you can do a ton of other things while they cook in the oven these are just great to take on the go if you're someone who's always on the go or if you're at home what I love to do is turn them into little tacos.
I love these sprouted corn tortillas because they are so much healthier for you and will warm them up. I'll add my egg, some black beans, some avocado cilantro hot sauce and I have a
healthy
breakfast taco that took me less than five minutes to make so I hope you enjoy these meal prephacks
