Mapping out the world of Silksong

Mar 16, 2024
to the Citadel. It seems that the Citadel is always short of silk, as that is what they desire from those who choose to make pilgrimages there. And the whole thing about capturing Hornet could also be related to his desire for silk. Another strange section of Greymoor is the boss encounter. At first I thought this character was some kind of chef who cooked some kind of mosquito soup. But Discord user Arch_Imedes made a very interesting connection between this character and medieval candle makers. Buckle up, guys, because we're about to learn about candle lore. Candle wax can be made by drawing fat into a large tub, which can then be poured over the wicks hanging above.

We can see what appears to be a tub stored on the ground, and there are also insect corpses that would serve as a source of fat. This would also explain the whitish spots on the insect's apron. And it would even explain where all those candles in this room at Greymoor come from. That being said, this could simply be a repeat of what we already saw in Hollow Knight with the cannibals in the City of Tears. But I find the candle theory a little more unique and interesting. There is a room in Greymoor that gives us a connection to another area in Pharloom.

More Interesting Facts About,

mapping out the world of silksong...

This room appears to lead left to this city bell tower. There's not much to see here, other than it looks like Hornet can unlock a series of platforms to get further up the city. But we don't know exactly where this leads. This city reminds me of Marrow, the bunch of bells that form the tunnels we travel through quickly throughout the game. But we also know that there are other sections of the Marrow that Hornet can pass through. Perhaps the Marrow connects the Forest of Bones to the Pile of Bells? I've walked through Pharloom pretty linearly in this video, but I think we all know there will be multiple routes through the

world

.

In fact, Team Cherry has even said that during the game Hornet "might" stop by Greymoor. It's literally the largest region in the game and apparently you don't even have to go through it. If you've seen Mark Brown's Hollow Knight video, you'll know how many different routes you can take throughout that game and how certain areas can be skipped entirely. And I'm sure Silksong will be similar, if not crazier. Anyway, we actually have another connection to Bell Heap. This swamp-like region appears to be located to the left of the city. This region of Pharloom is extremely fascinating for a couple of reasons.
mapping out the world of silksong
First of all, here it looks like the player can fight Seth. Seth is said to reside in the "Citadel Base", where he keeps a hidden secret, one that also seems to interest the Citadel caste. Seth believes that he has been chosen by a mysterious force known as "The Voice." We don't know what Seth is protecting, but Team Cherry points out that the base of the Citadel is covered in tangled roots, and this region of Pharloom is where we see these strange white flowers growing naturally. These flowers have some significance in Silksong, as they appear prominently during Lace's fight, but also because floral patterns also appear frequently in the architecture of the Citadel.
There's likely a connection here, and it's a connection that the Cherry team has never commented on. Another interesting detail in the base area of the Citadel are these giant plants that protrude from the roof. This tells us that whatever plant life lives here at the base of the Citadel is quite extensive. I'm not really sure if they're vines or roots or if they come from several plants or one big one, but they seem pretty sterile. One possibility is that the Citadel covets these flowers, and perhaps they have stripped these once lush vines of their blooms. This would reinforce the industrial drive of Pharloom, which consumes natural resources to feed its society.
Either that or this plant life is disappearing naturally. That might explain why we see an endless stream of flower petals falling from the sky. It seems that this overgrown temple is also located somewhere in this region. More muted colors go better with this area than something like Moss Grotto. We can also see floating flower petals in this boss fight arena. So that pretty much seals the deal. Finally, all of the vines located here are reminiscent of the vines seen right at the entrance to Pharloom, so it looks like the base of the Citadel could be near this entrance.
But if that were the case, why do pilgrims like Sherma end up in places like the Forest of Bones in places like this? Maybe his stupid ass fell off the cliff too? Now this is complete speculation on my part, but I think this area could also be where the player can find this elevator to the Citadel. After all, it is the foundation. That said, we also see the elevator fall again at some point. This implies that Hornet might explore a bit of the Citadel before being locked out of it, or that it will break the first time he tries to use it.
And we're pretty much out of leads at this point. Honestly, I think we've done pretty well so far. We were able to connect quite a few areas of Pharloom, but there are still some stragglers before we reach the Citadel, so let's make some guesses for the latter. We have the barnacle area, the coral forest, this sandy desert, Grindle's cell, the Last Judge's boss arena, the room with the penis guy, the room with Trobbio, and this giant grinding room. I'm going to place the barnacle area above Greymoor for one simple reason: it rains in Greymoor. This is probably wrong, but it's the only clue we really have.
Unfortunately, it's also raining in the barnacle area and I really don't know what could be on top. There is the coral forest, but this area doesn't seem to have much water at all. It's kind of like Fog Canyon, where it looks like it's underwater, but it's not. That said, it's really our best bet, so... I'll just put it on top of the Barnance area. This may be controversial, but I'm moving all of these rooms to the Pharloom desert region, since I think they're all in relatively the same place. This room shares architecture with what we see in Weaver's Den and other Weaver-related areas.
This could be a mini dungeon where Hornet can find another Weaver to get a new spell. We don't really know anything about the Last Judge, but we do know that he bears some resemblance to these three enemies shown in a Team Cherry blog post. These enemies are described as ancient servants of a dusty vault of ancient knowledge. However, it appears that one of them can be seen in what could be a church somewhere in the Citadel. The similarity in design to the Last Judge could imply that he is the current caretaker of the dusty vault. Dusty.
Desert. I don't know, it's something similar. As a side note, maybe these three characters were the other judges, who abandoned this guy, because he was stupid or ugly or something, explaining how he got the name "Last Judge". I think Grindle is in the same facility as the Last Judge, like some kind of prison. As for where the desert is as a whole, I'll put it right above Moss Grotto. I feel like he's somewhere on the outskirts of the Kingdom, so that's where he's headed. Cry about that, liberals. These last three rooms I think are somewhere near the bottom of the Citadel, like you're in the lower parts of the Citadel at this point, but you're not in the bright part of the Citadel yet.
This is what I'm going to call the Golden Cities. Please note that this is mostly speculation. These areas may be in completely different locations, but this is what I'll do for now. This is where we can see some more examples of the Pharloom industrial complex. Smokerock and Sweetsmelt brought from Deep Docks are placed in ovens here. The waste is disposed of in this giant shredding machine. And finally, there's the room with Trobbio, which turns out to be pretty important. In this room we see what appears to be a model replica of the Citadel itself. The two main indicators of this are the various bulbous domes and the gigantic, sinuous tubes.
So this is possibly representative of what the entire Citadel looks like. In this model, we can see some tall towers on both sides of the city. We don't know what these towers are, but one possibility is that one of them is the clock tower level we've seen a few times. This clock tower is likely the driving force behind Pharloom's productivity, responsible for the aforementioned tolls in the Deep Docks. I think the tower could fall to the bottom of the Citadel, creating a good connection between the two areas. From this model we also get a clear view of these strange pipes that run through the city.
These things are everywhere in the Citadel, casually hiding at the bottom, and seemingly all converging at the top. This brings us to our final shot, Lace's fight. Now, given the large number of pipes in the background, one would think that this would be the place where all the pipes converge, but if that is the case, why is the room so dark? Wouldn't it be close to the light source of the Shining Citadel? So maybe this is closer to the base of the Citadel, with lights from above just peeking out. Regardless of where Lace's fight takes place, we can guess from the diagram in Trobbio's room that on top of Pharloom rests this giant ball, a symbol we see plastered all over Pharloom.
It looks like a giant ball of rolled silk with a curved needle placed on top. To me, this symbolizes the silk control the Citadel has over the land of Pharloom. But there is something we should talk about in the Citadel, and it's these pipes. These things are so weird. What's inside them? Why do some of them decrease like this? Why did Team Cherry change this scene between the two trailers to remove the silk threads from the room? There is clearly something between the top of the Citadel and the bottom of the Citadel that these pipes help transfer.
So… maybe it's silk? If we believe in the whole idea of puppets, that the strings extend to the various insects throughout the kingdom, then these pipes starting from the center and moving outwards would be a good way to distribute the strings throughout Parloom. Here's another idea I originally heard from another user named Araraura. These pipes bear a vague similarity to something we've seen before in Hollow Knight: the Beast's Lair shrine in Deepnest. This contraption also has pipes coming out of it. Perhaps this device is just a tomb for the dead king of Deepnest. Or maybe it's hiding whatever beast attacked us when we first entered Beast's Den.
All that being said, it doesn't really help us figure out what these pipes are for. But maybe the two are related in some way. And the next reveal on Silksong will tell us more about this. Another connection that we can make with these pipes are the flowers. The flowers apparently grow at the base of the Citadel, but we see them here in Lace's fight, and they even grow on the sides of the pipe. If we assume that Lace's fight is at the top of the Citadel, why would flowers be found all the way up here? So perhaps the vines we see tangled at the base of the Citadel also extend up the Citadel to the top through these tubes.
This is another theory suggested by Arch_Imedes, and he believes that these pipes are a way to hide this giant plant from the Citadel's insects, relating to the hidden truth alluded to in Pharloom's Folly, the poem shown at the beginning of the game. It would be an interesting twist and it seems quite likely that these flowers have a greater connection to the Silksong story. So there's a lot going on here. You have the caste Citadel with its abundance of bells and weapons to cut and control the silk. You have Lace, who seems to have mysterious motives.
There is director Romino, about whom… we know nothing. And we don't even know what is creating the light found in the Shining Citadel. What is all that? Lots and lots of loose threads, to say the least. But the point of this video wasn't necessarily to worry about all those things. We're just trying to draw a map of Pharloom and   here it is. I can't wait to explore every inch of this game, from his little unshaven feet to his round head. This potential map for Silksong really looks beautiful. This map already looks very familiar to me, even though Silksong isn't even out yet.
It's like I've been seeing this map everywhere for years and I didn't even realize it. It seems... It's a little suspicious.
