Lufthansa A350 Business - Los Angeles to Munich

May 28, 2021
Good morning from a sort of gloomy West Hollywood today I'm flying Lufthansa on their Airbus A350 our flight this afternoon left Los Angeles just as the sun had set taking a more sudden route to take advantage of the strong tailwinds that will cross the continent . and the North Atlantic to reach Munich in just under 10 hours covering about 5,970 miles in Hollywood I was enjoying my 26 hour vacation the sun between work trips the weather was perfect so I spent a lot of time outdoors away from other people and their illnesses, so the hotel I'm staying at is called the Addition here in West Hollywood.

It's beautiful, it reminds me of a beach cabin. It's a Mario Banvoy property, but for some reason they don't offer free breakfast as a platinum benefit. or higher status members, which is a bit of a bummer because the breakfast here was pretty good and yes, I know I promised I would do hotel reviews at some point and I filmed them. I'm going to edit them at some point, but I just haven't. Meanwhile, I haven't been able to do it. I have to pack my bags and go back to the airport. Los Angeles needs no introduction. The second most populous city in the United States, Freedomland has one of the most impressive cases of urban sprawl in the world.

This may come as a surprise to some, but the city actually has a decent metro and light rail service, although using it to get to the airport isn't really worth it in most cases, especially if you're carrying luggage considering the nearest line The airport will still require a bus connection, so ride-sharing apps like Uber Lyft would be the modern way to avoid fair warning, although if you want to be picked up at the airport via rideshare, you'll need to take a Free shuttle service to a designated pick-up point. area that can be a hassle by adding 10 minutes to your commute, it might be easier than just favors from your friends.

Equally complicated are the airport buildings, which are divided into nine terminals, each with its own check-in and baggage claim. We are split between the major airlines and they occasionally change tenants, somewhat analogous to the city's historic gangs and their turf wars or perhaps not the only air connection between them is a series of labyrinthine underground tunnels that really aren't ideal if you have a close connection. Even less if you have tight pants. I just checked you in here at the international terminal named after a very successful former mayor, Tom Bradley, and not Tom Brady. Arguably equally successful American football player Lufthansa, along with friends from its star line, are in control.

In Hall C and in the international terminal, the number of counters here is clearly designed to serve many more passengers than they had at the time and, as a consequence, there was no queue for anyone, regardless of travel class, Across the hall it was the same. story for turkish airlines a kova testing facility was conveniently set up at the terminal site which promises results within 48 hours if requested to go to the security checkpoint now all major airlines seem to continue flying from here, it has British Airways, has I have air france laptop qatar emirates On the other side there is a notable absence of people, although many of the

It was a big disappointment to learn that the fantastic star lines that appear first in the

class lounges were also ominously sealed with caution tape, but you know what? This time I did my homework and knew this lounge was closed, but I have a plan that involves a 20 minute walk to the United terminal to use their United Club to begin my journey through the aforementioned maze of connectors and tunnels to my destiny. I'm going to be sitting for 12 hours straight, so that's probably a good thing. I'm getting some exercise and really, with views like this, I don't mind a 20 minute walk, unfortunately these platform views didn't last as most of this trip was through two kilometer underground tunnels, so This is the American Airlines terminal. which is not where I want to go, this is Alaska and Spirits Terminal is also not where I want to go eventually, although there was a change in scenery, I'm starting to see United Plains, which means we must be getting closer and of course that's okay, I did it.
It's 3.8 kilometers one way, not that bad, let's just hope they let me in. The staff were impressed because I walked up to Tom Bradley and confirmed that he could enter as a business class passenger on Lufthansa or as a Star Alliance Gold. Headline, this is not a Polaris lounge that is closed, but you may be allowed to believe otherwise by the furniture and decor. Let me go ahead and confirm that this is just a united club and unlike its more premium counterpart, there are no showers, bedrooms or an a la carte restaurant, but as far as united clubs go, this could be one of the best of a recently renovated network and takes up quite a bit of space.
It offers countless seating areas and options, all with a brightly lit and energetic atmosphere. Useful information screens are placed. throughout the space and to facilitate the conduct of business, private telephone rooms that come equipped for some reason with real landlines. The most interesting thing is that there is a dining room with a bar and buffet and an outdoor terrace, unfortunately the buffet was not in operation when I visited. Bar staff provided snacks and drinks upon request, please note this was a tight knit club and not a Polaris Lounge. Premium alcohol was not free. I had a drinks voucher and decided to redeem it for a glass of champagne to go with some nibbles.
It made up my lunch and I decided to take it out to get some air and enjoy the view. I should also mention that there was only one other passenger in the entire lounge, despite having reaped the benefits of airline loyalty in the form of Costco-sized snack packs. I started my long march back, okay, thanks guys, take care, okay, back to tom brady, uh, tom bradley, okay, i came back to give it back to tom, oh god, oh, look at that, anyway, what was he saying? Oh yeah, let's go find our plane. The wildfire smut really did a lot of damage to the windows here so the views from them weren't particularly good anyway, here's the business side of the Airbus A350-900, they're taking me to Germany and when I say the business. final, I mean business classes on this end of the plane, the last time I flew Lufthansa I was filming in the cabin and then the cabin manager suddenly told me to stop filming, which I did, that's why you didn't see that video.
At that moment I thought I would be a little more cautious. I emailed Lufthansa asking if I could get permission in advance to film on board. They were happy to give it to me and now they're letting me board before everyone else to get some cockpit footage, so thumbs up for objectivity, but thumbs up for being able to make this video, I guess that's a trade off I can accept I guess. that before everyone else, they invited me on board. Hello how are you? Climbing aboard, I asked the crew not to give me any special treatment or priority with a promise to also keep me out of their way.
The cabin manager was happy to oblige, but insisted that they would give me a tour so Mr. Buu could go to the back and they would show you the crew lounge if you wanted after having shown you every corner of the plane. Let me now show you the main business cabin of this aircraft which houses 36 lightweight flat seats in a 2-2-2 layout. As many of you will no doubt complain, the window seats do not have direct access to all seats themselves and are a slightly modernized variant of the same hardware that the airline has been using for more than a decade.
Notable improvements to the A350 model include updated materials. Minor ergonomic improvements. and a large ife screen on some configurations of the airline's A350, such as this particular aircraft, there is a smaller business cabin behind doors number two on the other variant, this space is occupied by the premium economy class which It is located further back on this plane in a 232 Moda with wider seats and more recline than those in economy class. However, the service in this cabin is very similar to that of economy class and speaking of economy, um, let's come back to this later. I had the opportunity to visit the flight deck where the pilot showed me around. innovations on this plane and told me about our departure, then showed me the flight crew rest area above the forward galley at the rear of the plane.
The cabin crew showed me their rest areas and the sleeping arrangements they made during their flight, like this one. Some of you may not know, but this space is actually located above the last two rows of economy class, where the center overhead luggage compartments would otherwise be. As far as arrangements go, my seat for this flight was 5a, which was a recommendation from the flight crew. As promised it would offer the best views of our somewhat irregular departure pattern, so let's do a full walkthrough starting as always with screen IV. This 15-inch 1080p screen can be swiped by pressing this tab and saving.
By doing the same behind it you will find the miniature footwell and above that the coat rack directly below the screen is the literature pocket and below it another storage cubby that comes with the toiletries kit and the water bottle inside. I'll show you. how to break this down later in the flight the center armrest houses a small surface for drinks and behind that the seat controls under this flap you will find the tray table which comes out with a push, folds away and is remarkably sturdy for something. that only has one foothold putting it away is a bit more difficult task and the trick I discovered is to just brute force it anyway, behind it is a compact multimedia remote control that comes out with a strap, we'll take a closer look at that.
Moving forward, in terms of the seat itself, there is a reading light embedded in the headrest and the headrest itself is generously padded and can be adjusted vertically. Down here you will find the life jacket and in front of the center column there are two universal power sockets. On the outside side there is another small storage space that houses the supplied headphones. These were pretty good when it came to being a vector for disease transmission, so I didn't bother using them on this flight. Counterintuitively, this armrest does not go down. instead, it folds flat, which did very little to increase shoulder room when sleeping.
The power supply or passenger service unit, which is this console above your head, did not have air nozzles and this flight was quite warm as is the Lufthansa tradition for the same reason as why did it not have a neighboring seat ? The fly boarded in less than 15 minutes, so it was only 10 full, so just as the last embers of twilight disappeared and just in time we started to turn back after passing 10,000 feet, the fly boarded in less than 15 minutes. The wifi service is on, speeds are good and Lufthansa offers a couple of packages reasonably priced at $34 for a gig.
The menus were handed out before departure and this is what they look like for the winter season while you are gawking at the food options let me take this moment to tell you that I had two flight options on this trip. I was heading to London for work and could have flown with United or Lufthansa, both with layover, I ultimately chose LH because of their level of service. was largely unaffected by Covet 19, the only noticeable difference being the absence of hot towels to illustrate that their full vendor was available on board with some delicious white and red wine options.
The syrah came highly recommended by one of you and I can attest that it was delicious, the bar was also fully stocked despite the single digit number of passengers in the business cabin and given the low number of customers the service It was provided in the fastest way. I ordered a glass of champagne to start, which came with some warm nuts and a glass. of water, okay, this is so I don't die this year, oh, that's pretty good. I have more of this dinner that started with aseafood appetizer, scallops, shrimp and a little acidity from the cucumber and glazed papaya salad.
The scallop was delicious, juicy, tender and full of flavor, my only regret was eating it in one bite, but I guess that comes with the territory of being a seafood theme. I opted for the salmon for my mane, it was presented in a true American way, unpretentious and in gigantic quantities, this was probably the largest portion I have ever received on a plane, the fish was perhaps a little overdone but still had plenty flavor, as well as being expertly seasoned, the rice and legumes on the other hand were perfectly cooked, all in all it was a very welcome meal afterwards.
A long day without much to eat the flight attendant who was looking after me Lisa didn't bother to ask me what I wanted for dessert, instead she gave me everything, which was either very nice of her or a sadistic ploy to finish me off. That night I tried a little bit of everything, including the chocolate cream which tasted a lot like chocolate cream. I also ordered a glass of port which came in an extraordinarily generous portion, solidifying my suspicions that the crew just wanted me to pass out in defiance. They ordered a cup of tea which came with their rebuttal chocolates. um, you know, saying that people have what goes up must come down and what goes in must come out.
I bet he was referring to the airplane bathrooms. I have always maintained that the A350 has the best bathrooms of any commercial flying craft. Spaciously lit and with tons of counter space, the only problem is that the lights here operate on a frequency that has not yet been discovered by science. math, hence the too little too late epilepsy warning on this trip, the bathrooms had no lotions or cosmetics except for everything else. It was in order and was rigorously cleaned after each use, of course there was a bathroom that worked as expected, also after dinner the crew left some drinks in the galleys for anyone who wanted them, I was also told there were snacks.
Available on demand Returning to my seat I wasn't ready for bed yet so let's take a look at the inflight entertainment provided through the Lufthansa user interface which can only be described as taking minimalism to the maximum. Consequently, it was very intuitive. The touchpad was very sensitive to touch, but because of how far away it is, it's best to just use the remote control, which itself was very simple and responsive. The recent releases library was noticeably simpler. flight as a result of the lack of content produced due to the global pandemic and the low number of passengers also due to the same pandemic, which led to fewer license acquisitions, still the airline had an impressive catalog of movies and television shows old, American, European, British and everything. between which I guess I would be Icelandic anyway I am no longer a frequent LH flyer but in the 16 years I have been flying with this airline I have never been disappointed without nice content to watch, they really have a very complete selection of all kinds of Media, one of the best flights in the skies in terms of route mapping, was provided by Flight Map 3D and comes with all the features the discerning geographer would expect;
You can zoom and discover as you like. My heart's desire In addition to that, as you may have noticed, this plane, like all the A350s in the Lathanza fleet, has external cameras for spectacular views, but not now because it is night, speaking of night, it was finally succumbing to the machinations of my circadian rhythm. and not helped by the fact that all my blood was diverted to my intestine and liver, I started to feel sleepy, so let's take a look at the bedding, starting with a classic pillow for lower tonsils, now this one is a bit Too soft and not very supportive.
Here you also get a thick blanket which was quite substantial, especially considering the already warm cabin. Lastly, there was a mattress protector that made the cloth seats more comfortable to lie on on longer overnight flights like this one. Now you also get what they call a sleep shirt. They're not pajamas because you can't get pants, just a shirt, but they're still made of cotton, breathable, and surprisingly comfortable. The seat reclines to a completely lightweight flat position and is noticeably wider in the head area than in the footwell, but even then both of my arms touched the armrests, there really wasn't any wiggle room and lying on your back I felt a little claustrophobic.
I don't think there are many fans of this commercial seat, and like many of you, I am. I'm looking forward to the new set coming out but in the meantime my advice for these beds would be to lie on your side, there's tons of padding and thankfully vertical leg room isn't an issue. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you rest your hands on the armrest of the center console, then there is a good chance that you will get scared by accidentally moving the seat, since the controls are where your hands will naturally rest.
I set an alarm on my watch to get ahead of the jet lag and after a bit of tossing and turning I finally managed to fall asleep three hours of pretty decent sleep later. I woke up to another beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic. Moments like this make me eternally grateful to be able to travel in such comfort, I hope. I managed to convey some of that excitement despite my quiet voice, but back to the practical side of things since the sun came out, let's take a proper look at the amenities kit. Now these change quite frequently on this airline.
This season has been beautiful leather. bag that comes in two colors, the more traditional brown and, in my opinion, a slightly more attractive dart purple, unfold to reveal the contents that you can see here. It includes all the usual suspects along with date products that have been partners for as long as I can remember, unfortunately they didn't have the much sought after lip balm. I hope they bring them back. Well, good morning, I have food and I'll give my voiceover a break. Let's do this mukbang. style, I'm not very good at this, but we'll see what happens, well that's kind of spicy, okay, yeah, I'm not very good at this anymore, what the hell is this?
This is egg with Italian parsley, mozzarella and braised tomato. Okay, looks pretty good, in retrospect it looks like a quiche, it looked more like a frittata. Okay, unlike dinner, your morning pastries or bread are hot, you're toast, it's a nice little fruit bowl and a generous dollop of butter. weird, which doesn't mean I don't like it, it just has a layer of cheese, it gives it an interesting texture, um, but otherwise it's a little out of season, okay, let's try the croissant, it's quite fluffy inside, it smells good. a touch of artificial flavoring or maybe the butter is a little bit different, it has them if you had cakes in Asia like Japanese cakes or Chinese cakes, Taiwanese cakes, it has a slight touch of I'm almost a bleach, which is not to say that.
It's not good, I mean, it's like not complaining. I'm just trying to find things to say while I eat, which turns out to be a little harder than I had imagined. Fruit is very cold if you have a cavity. I don't know before one bite of that watermelon and you would definitely know not to say it's not good, okay I'll have to stop saying that at some point after breakfast I decided to go for a walk as is becoming a tradition these days. videos normally I wouldn't have moved, you know, for fire spread reasons, but seeing how few people there were, I think you'll agree and it was okay as we get back here, let's take a look at the cheap seats since then.
I said the first thing you'll notice is how blue these things are, so blue in fact, they're giving Air France and KLM a run for their money. The economy cabin is designed in a 333 configuration as normal. the airbus If you touch the screen below which you will find a handy shelf to store your belongings, below is the folding tray table which also slides out on the back of the tray table and also includes a clever little cup holder that comes out like this On the side of the seat you will find a hook and leg room.
It was okay, it could be a little tight on longer flights but luckily the armrests go up all the way giving you a lot more room if there is a ftc next to you in the seats, the headrests fold down and the recline was good once more, quite normal. I don't see how I could feel uncomfortable on longer flights, especially as the seat slides forward when reclined, impeding overall knee room, although the seats are relatively new, it's still a To finish, it was a product fairly average economy, there were universal power outlets under the seats, as well as USB Type A charging ports that can be found under the screens.
There were approximately two hours of flight left. I took this opportunity to write what I thought of this. trip, I should start by telling you that I grew up a lot on the back of Lathanza's A330s and 40s, doing a trip between Riyadh and Vancouver via Germany many times a year. I know this airline intimately because it was a fixture of my childhood, so if I end up proclaiming that the German airline is the best airline of all time and that it will ever be good, at least you know where my biases lie, but in terms of its business class, I'm sorry to say it's not the best out there, there are cases where next to each other seating would make sense or would be preferable even for example for a parent and child who want to sit next to each other without sacrificing a window seat or for adults who want the same thing, however, for most potential. customers, the lack of privacy and general space could drive them away.
I really wish the airline would use the A350 as a platform to innovate on this product, but I guess we'll have to wait for the triple 7x. Oh, by the way, if you want to break up. the lower cubby just pulls up and out and this happens, but let's keep this little secret between you and me for now, okay, don't tell the airline, I told you this, I like them, I want to keep flying with them. Anyway, I don't want to get banned, where was I? While the harsh product may leave the discerning traveler wanting for service, I can happily say that it is still what I remember as this is an airline that has consistently provided excellent service every time I have flown.
On it the cabin crew are among the most professional in the skies, friendly, attentive and enthusiastic, especially about flying and travelling, the food was good, it's never been bad, but it's rarely mind-blowing either and I'll leave it at that . stalker the whole crew would like to say goodbye to you thank you for choosing

lufthansa

and starlights for your flight I wish you a very good day and for showing us connecting flights thank you bye what are we so in the end I will fly I am definitely on the A350 again, but preferably on a daytime return flight from Europe.
After all, there are some fantastic lothanza rooms in Frankfurt and Munich. I also want to say that I'm sorry I haven't uploaded them for a while. These videos are still a hobby for me and something I can't dedicate all my time to, but I want to thank you all for the support and encouragement you have given me and a very special thank you to chris lisa and the entire lh453 team for being so accommodating with my filming, I sincerely hope that everyone is doing well during these times and that everyone else is safe and I will see you next time.
