, so, yeah, I'm excited to be here, any style of music or any type of music that scares you. I mean, yeah, absolutely like anything that involves double bass or metal breakdowns like anything super heavy. I'd be afraid if you've seen the format we do with giving drummers songs they haven't heard, yeah that's right, yeah, what do you think about the format? I mean I love it I think it's like the second I watched Chad Smith's videos and the one Mr Bright Side Mega Death did oh my god they were amazing.

More Interesting Facts About,

jess bowen hears rage against the machine for the first time...

I'm just not. I am nervous. I do not think I can. I'm not that kind of. drummer who could just listen to a song and play it well, you're going to do great because every drummer who's been through that would say that's a pretty common response, they usually end up having a lot of fun in the end, okay, everything's ready, right? OK? I have a problem with this. I feel violated. How does it work? We've removed the drums so you have complete freedom to play whatever you want and then at the end of the video once you've created your own part. and you've finished your final performance, we'll play you the original and you can see how close or how different your version was.

I'm excited to hear your version. Do you want to just jump into this and try it or do you want to listen to something else before I start playing with some parts or can I just start playing with it like you just play it, let me try. Let me see if I like the

first

T. I mean, I'm not going to like the

first

take, I imagine, but I mean, I'll just try it, you know, let's jump, oh my God, Shad explodes in the H drop. like get the I with the short shot sure you don't do anything ACH the power that fixed that rock in the face the Earth gets bigger the triggers empty your with a pocket full of not with a pocket full of projectiles rounding with a pocket full of shell no family with a pocket full of shit no food no no shit no me war Channel Animal the USA we don't know keep don't have while s R around the pocket full of shit around with a pocket full of shell with a pocket full of fish pocket full of shells pocket for the show people watching, like you do it in one take, you listen to it once and then you just go through the whole song without notes.
I didn't write down the notes, yeah, once I started listening, I was like you know what I'm going to feel, I just have to feel where these parts are going, but yeah, no, I've never heard that before, so I mean, I just did something that is all I can call, we want the most honest and authentic. version of that and I don't think it can be more authentic than that, yeah, honestly, I feel like I have to, that's the only take. I'm going to continue with her. I agree, I don't think I can do it. better, I mean, I probably could if I listened to it a few

time

s, but as a single take for the purpose of this video, this is my only take.
I love it. I also listened. So you're on tour with Mike SLE right now. Yeah, who's a good one? Dromeo's friend and I heard it was contributing to some of the stress and paranoia of doing this. When I told him he was going to do this, he said, "Oh, yeah, no, no, I wouldn't." I'm not going to do it and I thought, yeah, well, maybe I shouldn't do it, maybe I shouldn't do it, no, so this is a public service announcement for Mike next time he comes back here, we're going to give him a feeder. dreams or something and uh oh Mike, please, this guy would have heard all of our songs, so you heard them once you played them, what are some of the things that you noticed that you tried to capture in that take?
He was trying to follow those guitars. just with those accents like things like that and then I couldn't really I didn't know where things were going I was like where is this is this the verse is this is this like I could feel where the choruses were, but I was struggling a little bit to find the different parts where I would normally know, you know, maybe play on the crash or play Clos's high hat, turn the dynamic down or turn it back up, so I mean, the song is amazing. m Again, I'm very interested to know who he is.
Is it really crazy that I don't know this song? I'm going to put myself in my place the music video has 77 million views oh my god it's Brad Wil on drums are you familiar with Brad? I don't think he is. I'm so sorry again, you learn something new every day. I am learning. and please again drummers don't hate me for this oh the song is called Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine okay it's Rage Against the Machine yeah okay Brad on drums uh , you want to hear the original with the drums in there, yes. obviously, it's going to be amazing, yeah, oh, it goes out there, okay, I made it harder on myself.
I could have just not played anything that's there, oh, okay, micone exploded in the see, did I do something like that?, there I can. I don't remember, I liked it. I did a little bit. I thought I had been wrong about all this, but maybe that one was right. It's much simpler, like just listening to it. It is very simple. I did too. I was trying. To make it overly complicated, this walk thing is tripping me up. I would have never thought about riding and this, but it's like it feels good. I really tried to overcomplicate all of this.
Yes, great song. Most drummers who do this are always like this. some places that have spaces uh like you were saying and most of them want to play them, but it's hard to know when you don't know the song well. I thought, wow, I would have done it, I mean it, yeah, I would have been. It's easy to just abandon that place, it also makes sense because that was one of the parts where I was listening the first time and I thought, oh, I wonder what I would do in this part, since it doesn't seem like I should have felt that the drums I didn't seem to be in that part, but you know, the first time, whatever, the first time, yeah, we did one with Nick Colin, he was playing like a 70s jazz fusion song called Whiplash, it's not quite mine. . mettle, yeah, and he tries to come up with this drum hook and then at the end he says he could have sat me through this whole part.
I couldn't have done anything, yeah, that would have made my life easier. I didn't do enough to play another one. What I say all the time is that if you were in that recording session versus Brad, it could have been a completely different drum part. Different, yeah, depending on which drummer was in the kit, like if 20 drummers played the song, they'd have it 20 different ways. That's the coolest part about these videos, is just being an honest take, just a different feel to the song, basically totally, and uh, yeah, I mean, it was fun, it was fun, well, y'all, that was my only Take listening to Rage Against the Machine.
I'm so sorry, I didn't know the song, it's a great song, but it was fun, it was very scary to do that, but, you know, honestly, take what I felt like playing for it and, um, I. I'm sorry I didn't do it justice, but it was a lot of fun to do, so thanks everyone for watching. I'm Jess Bowen, see you soon.
