Japanese Dollar Store Makeup Challenge

Jun 10, 2021
Hello friends and welcome to another video. Today I'm going to try Japanese

dollar

store

makeup

. So Daiso originated as a ¥100

store

in Japan, but most items at American Daisos are $1.50. So it's a $1.50 store, not a

dollar

store, so sorry for the clickbait guys, I hadn't actually seen any of these Daiso stores before moving to California. I've been inside a few of them, but I've never bought anything yet. It looks like there are a lot of fun trinkets and snacks inside, but I'm thinking we should go for the

makeup

. I've seen some people do dollar store makeup

challenge

s and I've also seen some people do Daiso makeup videos.

So I'm thinking we should go in there, get a full makeup look and see how it looks! I'm excited honestly, I feel like we're going to find some hidden gems maybe they're not that hidden, just hidden to me I think I'm going to find some gems Tyler: did you find the makeup? Saf: Oh no, I was sidetracked by these fluffy mats. Oh no, I didn't find the makeup, but I did find a big basket. Tyler (VO): We're kind of pressed for time, we have to get things done. before it closes Saf: Is this for soap? She's very happy Tyler: I hope Sofia can find these things Saf (VO): So at Daiso I bought eyebrow stencils, honestly, I could use them, so if they work, that would be amazing Saf (VO): I also took some false eyelashes, I'm really bad with false eyelashes, but they look really fun.

More Interesting Facts About,

Saf (VO): These are like party lashes, they have some spikes sticking out. A pretty standard looking eyebrow pencil. Saf: Here this. it's eyeliner, oh more eyebrows Saf: oh wow, there's a lot going on with this funky looking eyeshadow brush Saf: What? what's that? It looks like an Artis brush, but it is very thin and small. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure what an eyeshadow brush looks like, but I'm excited to find out. This mascara is called long lashes, I mean, I want long lashes, so I wait. lives up to its name Saf (VO): This cheek and highlight duo is called orange Saf (VO): I have some makeup sponges, kind of like a big variety pack, there's a heart-shaped one on the back that looks promising Tyler: What are these things?

Saf (V.O.): This potion bottle looks like eyeliner, if you lift this up there is a pencil eyeliner and then in this bottle down here there is liquid eyeliner oohhh yeah, this concealer stick, this is the only one they had in this color Saf: This one seems right. Tyler: Let me see. Saf (VO): And I was kind of squished against the top, but I picked this one because I think it's the right color for me or at least something close to it, hopefully Tyler: They're all the same color Saf. Saf: Are they all the same color?

Tyler: I think so Saf (VO): I bought this elegant aqua silky milk foundation, I have two colors to mix since I think my skin tone is in the middle Saf: and then let's take a powder just to powder everything. Saf (VO): I couldn't find any loose powder, but I'm excited to try this powder. I also bought this stick foundation a little darker, I feel like I could probably use it for contouring. Saf (VO): and then I bought two lipsticks, both peachy, this one more nude and this one looks like gold and this bronzing blush to use as eyeshadow.
I couldn't find any eyeshadows besides a really blue palette and at that point I already picked out so many peaches and golds. I thought we can't do this. I also bought this bath mat, this one has owls and cats and these cats with a tie, this one owls me because look at his eyebrows, okay! So let's get right into it, let's start putting some things in my face. I have some brushes and a beauty blender here that aren't from Daiso in case you need them. I think I'll probably have them, but don't worry about this eyeshadow.
The paintbrush will come into play at some point. Let's start with the eyebrows. I'm going to open up my basic line eyebrow stencil, it looks like there's only one stencil here and then along with our eyebrow stencil, we're going to use this eyebrow pencil, okay? I'm going to use spoolie and brush my eyebrows. My eyebrows have been through a lot today. Okay, here we go, so here's my eyebrow template. I definitely have a little tail sticking out. I'm holding it, so this corner is digging. the bridge of my nose, so it looks precise, it takes a little concentration for this.
I don't know if that was perfect, but it gave me something to work with, like it just filled in where the template was. It wasn't right, so I'm going to go to the right eyebrow with my little stencil. This one doesn't hurt the bridge of my nose that much, so I feel like it might not even be right, let me try to stick it right there. I'm going to fill in the rest of the eyebrow like I did on the other side, the stencil left out some hairs that I have under here. I think I'm just going to brush them a little bit and then we're going to I'm going to keep going okay, so next let's do eye shadow.
I have this eyeshadow brush that I don't understand, this blush, then this cheek and highlight duo, we're just going to use these three and think of something in case this brush doesn't work. It doesn't really work for me, maybe I'll leave it as a brush to brush my face, it's kind of nice right? so I'm going to use the highlighter shade with this brush as a general situation. In fact, I don't have any methods for madness right now for a step that requires not so much precision. It is working well. I'm not going to give up.
I'm going to keep using this brush until this brush abandons me and then I'm going to try to take this orange shade and put it on my eyelid. I don't know if this brush is really doing enough, we're just going to keep using it because it says it's an eyeshadow brush. I think I got pretty decent overall lid coverage with this brush. I'm going to try putting this blush on my outer corners and crease, oh maybe I was supposed to. So I almost use it like a fan, like opening a windshield wiper. I'm going to be honest, although these things are where they are, that's where the pigments come in, they heat up.
I wonder if you could use this as a sort of toothbrush motion. Oh wow, I put a lot of pigment in there, I think I was trying to show it off and then I got carried away. I actually once used my finger really quickly and there I got a lot more pigment so let me try this orange again with my finger, oh actually there's a lot more so fingers might be the way to go. I think I went from Effie trinket to liking tropical macaw, so now that I've done all this I should do foundation, yeah, foundations next, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ohh. that means I'm going to use my makeup sponges.
I moistened both sponges, they both feel a little sticky and neither of them grew much with water. Here is the lightest color I got. This is color one that I also have. what is actually now that I look at the number, this is number five, let's take our beauty sponge and just mix it well, it just disappeared, it should be here, let's see that nothing came off, we won't use the green sponge, now let's see if that it falls on my face oh there's something but I think this sponge is absorbing a lot of the product because it's like I'm already out of everything ok maybe these sponges aren't the way to go ok so I'm going to go back to my beauty blender oh wow that's a big difference oh interesting look what it does it's very tacky actually I feel like the color combination isn't that bad mixing those two colors together worked it doesn't feel super comfortable but It looks pretty good, like some kind of natural coverage.
All of these makeups have a really vintage smell. I'm not sure I nailed this color combination on this other side, it might be a little more orange or yellow than I anticipated, but going by it, I actually like how it looks after a little hit on the face, so next I have this Santee super flexible concealer that I'm going to put under my eyes and then I have this clean color. light and deep skin stick foundation that I'm going to try and use as a cream contour, okay I don't know I'm going crazy guys I don't know why I just did that, why did I do that?
I don't know, I just got carried away with this concealer, now I'm going to have to blend it out. It says super flexible. Oh, that really blurred very quickly. Well, let's look under the eye. I can't just use the bionic. blend mode and I'll see if I can't just blush. I'm going to take this concealer out again and put some on my mustache. I actually wish I had a liquid type concealer for under my eyes, but on the rest of my face I'm I like this concealer. I think it's time to highlight the cream contour. I don't have much experience with cream contours.
This could be an interesting trip and then a little bit on the sides of my nose smells like baby powder. a baby's butt mmm, I want to put that on my face. I feel like I have some Ben Nye stage makeup on, this is all actually blending together pretty well. Usually I would apply a little baking powder afterwards, but I couldn't. I find some loose dust. I'm going to powder myself with this pressed powder. This Santee brand seems to be pretty much the number one Daiso makeup brand. Most things are Santee. Yeah, okay, so I think the powder was a little bit darker. so you know my general base, so I'm going to powder my collar and lower my shirt a little to disguise that fact.
Next, I'll do some action on the cheeks. I'll put the blush back on. I'm going to use the orange side of my alluring cheek duo. I actually like this color, it's quite orange, but you know it's part of the look we're creating. I like that I chose everything in one color. It was like everything. orange type the eyes are orange type, the cheeks are orange type, the contours a little orange the powder a little orange okay, so now I think next I'm going to do some eyeliner. I have this thing that looks like a potion bottle.
What I'm going to do is use this pencil eyeliner which is like the top of the potion bottle and draw a little bit of line which will be my cat eye wing, it makes a little sharp feeling in my eye, oh it hurts a bit. a little bit okay, so now I'm going to take the liquid eyeliner that's at the base of this potion bottle and see what I can do to draw the rest of the line. I swear, I don't know why this doesn't feel sharp in my hand, but on my eye it feels sharp, I don't love that part, but I like, you know, a decent liquid liner, okay, so that's a eye down, let's do the second eye now and it's hard to talk while I'm doing my eyeliner.
I just realized I'm really quiet right now, okay, I don't think I nailed my eyeliner today, but I do think the elf bottle did a good job, as well as being incredibly cute and reminding me of Polly Pocket , as I want to say. the old school Polly Pockets where he was a choking hazard and lived only in hard plastic. Next I'm going to put on some mascara. I don't know if you guys have ever experienced this, if you ever like it, you really like liquid eyeliner. your lashes are already clumped/layered so I definitely feel like the liquid eyeliner while I swipe my lashes with this mascara wand, aside from the fact that it smells quite chemically, it actually looks pretty decent.
I liked what it did on my bottom lashes, it definitely made them look really long. Eyelashes so long, it's okay. Now we are approaching the final stages. I have two lipsticks here. I'm going to sample both just to see if it's okay, so this is it. The first one there's not much of anything, it looks like a kind of gold glitter, it smells very strong like a fruity Crayola crayon Let me smell it, yeah, it smells ohhh and then this is the gold one the second one ooooooh yeah, it's like metallic gold peach color. I mean, maybe we should do both?
I'm going to start first with just a little bit of moisturizing action with these twins, there's a little bit of frost on this one, like a mid 2000s early 2000s gloss, then I'll start with the femme lipstick, oh yeah, making sure to cover that inner waterline, the butt hole, nothing beats a golden butt hole. I always say that this lipstick takes on a nice color, but you have to like to keep layering it. I believe a little. I think this gold lipstick actually furthers the parrot narrative. In this look I'm thinking of Iago from Aladdin, like he has a golden peach beak.
Well, this is my complete look using Daiso makeup. I thought a lot of it was really good, oh I got it. The fucking king I forgot my false eyelashes, they were disguised under the makeup sponges, so stop the review, let me put them on real quick. I already put on mascara so this should be interesting too, but we'll put a little more on the The funny thing is that these really fit into the Iago theme because they feel like feathers. Wow! Look at that lash Santa carp, okay, looking at these false lashes, it looks like my eyes are about to wander away from my body, but they definitely brought the whole look firmly into the land of Halloweentown costumes.
I am overall impressed bythe things I could do. Future use would probably be the brow pencil, this concealer, and this gold lipstick. In fact, I think the performance of this lipstick makes me want to go back and buy other colors of this lipstick just so I have more of these, cheap, fun colors that I might need in a random situation. I wouldn't recommend the tools that they have, like brushes, sponges, those kinds of things that I tried, to at least buy. I would recommend some of these items and especially the things that come in stick form.
I found the sticks worked best. I think I have to go back to Daiso, get more snacks and get another bath mat. These tabs I can't take seriously. I look like a bird in flight.
