about his return to Marvel movies. So we'll break it all down. I know there are a lot of questions because in recent years it seemed like everything was over. the map on whether or not he would actually return right after Avengers Endgame. I think most of us assumed it was pretty easy for him to return in some version of the next Avengers movies, whatever they might have been. Then we found out that they were actually going to do an Avengers Secret Wars version. but then Oppenheimer happened.

He won an Oscar for it, saying all kinds of things about winning awards and learning that he was still a real actor and that he could still act in movies because acting in Marvel movies is a very different thing from acting in a traditional movie. very, very different skill set. So everyone assumed he would never come back, like, oh no, he likes acting in normal movies. He's now going to do that for the rest of his life. How did Robert Downey Jr become Iron Man? It was the will of God. but in the last few days he did a complete 180 and talked about returning in new Marvel movies and how happy he would be to do more Marvel movies.

So we'll explain what happened, what changed behind the scenes, what changed inside of him that made him so ready to come back? I'm very excited to come back and do more Marvel movies. We already have a pretty good idea of ​​what he'll look like based on what Kevin Feige has said they're doing with older versions of his characters; he has played Iron Man, for example. But if you didn't see the news. Robert Downey Jr just did a great interview about all the things that have happened to him in the last few years, mainly because Oppenheimer won all the awards. I wish he could go back to this moment. During the interview, he summed up his entire career as the crazy earlier period of his life when he was still doing all kinds of drugs and getting into all kinds of trouble.

His redemption arc through the Marvel movies, where he basically rehabilitated himself, all the criticism that was leveled against him during his Marvel movie period, like those ten years where people started saying that she couldn't act anymore, and then she basically proved everyone wrong. when he won the Oscar for Oppenheimer. So one of the biggest things that happened behind the scenes is that after Avengers Endgame, they wanted that to feel like a real end to his character, like the end of his time. But also behind the scenes at Disney, there was something important about his contract in the way he was paid so much money that the Disney executives absolutely hated.

Many of you have wondered why Iron Man 4 was never made into a movie, why they cut out the 616 version of Iron Man in Avengers Endgame, Thor got Love and Thunder, his fourth movie, they just announced they're making Thor 5. with another director like Taika Waititi will not return. They are making Captain America for next year, although it seems like all of these movies are being delayed a bit. Why not make a fourth movie for your most popular character? It seems like that would have been a hit during Marvel's Phase Four. It would have arrived right after Avengers Endgame, just like Thor, Love and Thunder.

Some of you probably won't be surprised by this. Thus, Apply confirms some theories that he has had behind the scenes. But it turns out that Robert Downey Jr didn't want his character killed off in Avengers Endgame like he didn't want Iron Man to die. He lived like a king and everyone loved working with him. He loved working with everyone else. So before Avengers Infinity War in Avengers Endgame, the Disney executives, not Kevin Feige, but the people at Disney who had to accept, Kevin Feige paying Robert Downey Jr all this money. this one a couple of levels above Kevin Feige. All those Disney executives basically wanted to get rid of Robert Downey Jr, basically stop having to pay him so much money. so they planned to use Avengers Endgame as an ending for that period.

They ended up writing it so that he would sacrifice himself. He breaks his nano infinity gauntlet and apparently dies. Originally, the alternate ending to Avengers Endgame was for Captain America to wield the Infinity Gauntlet. He would break it and then die as a result. So they originally planned to have Captain America wield Thor's Hammer and then wield the Infinity Gantlet. It's also a great moment in the comics. But in that version of events, there was no time travel mission he went on at the end of the movie where he stayed with Peggy Carter in the past.

as an old man in the main timeline and gives the shield to Falcon at the funeral, would have been for him. Obviously not for Iron Man. So, it would have been a completely different vibe, a completely different ending for Avengers Endgame apparently in the writers' room. Kevin Feige, the Russos, the writers finally decided they wanted to give Captain America the Peggy Carter reunion ending, and at least in the room, it made more sense than that. They would have to have Iron Man be the one to break the Infinity Gauntlet. and because most fans would go into the scene where Iron Man takes the Infinity Gauntlet, expecting him to have some creative work that would allow him to survive the snap to surprise people like Big W, surprise the theater as much as possible. possible. possible.

They killed him legitimately. There were so many fan theories after Avengers Endgame came out about how Iron Man could have survived the snap and they probably wish you could actually write a way for him to survive that made sense. Kevin Feige says they have no plans to resurrect that version of Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man character now that they will never bring him back. But they would not resurrect that Iron Man who sacrificed himself so that he would not undo his sacrifice. Which makes sense. So we move on to the Marvel Multiverse Saga after the Infinity Saga, phase four of Marvel, phase five.

Phase six. What if Christopher Nolan directed the Avengers? Well, that's the riddle of the multiverse. Kevin Feige seemed like he'd always had plans to bring back a bunch of those actors, depending on whether they wanted to come back or not, as if they were in the Marvel era where they didn't lock actors in for six movies. seven movie deals. in general, because Avengers Endgame was so big, like the ending was so important. They wanted to give him a couple of years to settle before even thinking about bringing back any of those legacy actors, the original Avengers. then the pandemic happens.

Things are delayed. The Marvel movie schedule, phase four or phase five physics just stretches out further than they ever intended. As we should have already seen Secret Wars. Even if the pandemic had not happened. During that time, Robert Downey Jr went on to pursue many of his other projects working on other types of films. Finally, Christopher Nolan finds them, puts him in Oppenheimer's movie, and suddenly discovers that he knows how to act again, like he's had this big moment of validation. So what Robert Downey Jr. said changed within him is that during that period before he got all that validation, like before the awards started coming in, he actually felt like being in the Marvel movies for so long, even though he enjoyed that moment. , ruined his ability to act in movies.

Then he got all the accolades, accolades and awards for Oppenheimer. And that essentially showed him that that was wrong. In reality, he still knew how to act. Basically, he did a 180 to be happy to come back and do more Marvel movies because he got all the validation that he thought he wasn't going to get. It was difficult because you realized that you really had to do it as much as you could from the beginning of each day to the end of each day, which is not how I like to work. Also a side note, I actually think that, you know, behind the scenes, the Disney people approved whatever his salary was, whatever his quote was.

Now, after winning the Oscar, after getting all those awards, he really came back because I think his stock definitely skyrocketed after that. as before Oppenheimer. For him to come back and be like, like Avengers Secret Wars maybe cost them like $10 million for a two-minute scene for him to come back, like, real quick, blink and you'll miss it. A kind of cameo. now it's probably double that for the cameo scene. and when he talks about returning to the Marvel movies, obviously, like I said, Kevin Feige has a very specific plan for how the Marvel movies are going to play out and what they're going to do, what they're not going to do. do.

With his original character of Iron Man. Many people theorize that he would return for a cameo in the Iron Man Armor Wars movie that Rhodey will appear in in the next few years, or at least originally before Marvel canceled some of his movies. Previously. What I think was the plan is that they would bring him back for a small cameo during that, but not the kind of cameo you'd expect. as if he were not alive. It would have to be a flashback or some kind of digital message, but it wouldn't be him returning permanently. They started doing more and more types of flashbacks in the Marvel movies.

So it's not difficult to achieve something like that. which then brings us to the obvious place where we'll probably see Robert Downey Jr return in some sort of cameo among the Avengers five, whatever title he ends up with, although we know they're still doing the King, they're paying for that story. It looks like they are making some gentle changes behind the scenes. As a casting recap, Kane's character in Avengers Secret Wars, which Marvel is also using to reboot the entire movie. Like all Marvel movies in general. Those films were also intended to be a sort of endgame moment for all of Fox Marvel's legacy actors, which is why Hugh Jackman will continue to play a version of Wolverine through Secret Wars.

Tobey Maguire Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield Spider-Man. He is also supposed to return for Secret Wars. Basically, a version of what he saw in the comics changed a bit. if you ever watch the classic Spider-Man The Animated Series from the '90s. They also did a version of the classic Secret Wars from the '80s. During that you also had to imagine something of that nature. Imagine Robert Downey Junior returning as a multiverse version of the character, whether it's a version of Iron Man, it could be a totally different character, like the Sorcerer Supreme from an alternate universe.

There was even a deleted scene from Avengers Infinity War where they tried something of that nature, but they obviously got rid of it before the theatrical cut and just saved the twist for some future movie. but the idea is that it's very easy to bring Robert Downey Junior back, not that he's the original Iron Man character. However, when it comes to the actual Marvel reboot they're doing in the MCU, that's the point. After Secret Wars, as we begin Marvel's Phase Seven, will they start recasting some of those legacy actors if they so choose, or eventually recasting them? really good.

An example of this is the new version of Wolverine in the Marvel Universe. Eventually, yes, there will be a new version of IronMan inside future Marvel movies. It's - they've been waiting for a long time, obviously times like this, to bring back Robert Downey Junior in big cameos. It's the same situation with Marvel hoping to release a new version of Wolverine. For example, we'll let Hugh Jackman continue being Wolverine during the upcoming Avengers Secret Wars movies. then sometime after that, like a couple of years after Secret Wars, whatever year that ends up happening, then they'll release a new Wolverine.
