because you will not listen to the recording a second time listen carefully and answer the questions 1 to 4 good afternoon Italy break my name is Margaret how can I help you hello I would like to book a short break in Italy combined hotel and flights to any particular place yes Venice if possible we have been looking at some of your brochures and want to check if you have any special offers we are going to have one look and see what we have ok hmm ok , i have the screen up can you give me some personal details sure first i can take your name please and a contact phone number it is certainly john fram lincoln that is F R a M L I n G T o N and i will give you my mobile number I can't always remember it yes here it is oh seven nine eight seven double four double one nine two double four double one nine two that's it and how many people are there for only two adult s ok any particular price range its our 1st wedding anniversary and congratulations thank you so we wanted somewhere nice but not too expensive we wish it was something to remember maybe in the price range medium, how many nights do you plan? staying only five nights that gives us plenty of time to sightsee and relax thats only five nights and what kind of hotel we initially thought of going for a five star but that might be too expensive so we have been looking at it for hotels of four stars we have We have quite a few in our brochure but the one I would recommend is the Scotland hotel it is a four star and I know there are rooms available as I have just made a booking for another client there.I don't know how I didn't see it, it's easy not to see them. I have also stayed there as sometimes we have to go see hotels and out of all the ones I visited this was my favourite, oh right before you hear the rest. from the conversation you have some time to look at questions five to ten now listen and answer questions 5 to 10 what is the hotel like does it have a patio for breakfast it has 50 rooms it has just been renovated and is very stylish is it in the brochure? it's on page 63 oh yeah i can see it's right next to the train station hmm but what appeals to me the most is that the hotel is so convenient to all the water buses and the idea of having a terrace with I really find the room very attractive these are big pluses probably the most central hotel we have might think it would be a bit noisy as it is in the main passenger area and a place where tourists go but From experience I can assure you that the hotel is very quiet.
Most of the rooms face the main road. Let me know when you'd like to leave on the 17th March and come back on the 22nd. Ok I'll check again if there are places available for adults sharing the Scotland Hotel. a special rate at the moment because it's low season for five nights let's see it's £716 for a double room and flights including airport tax but not sure each one not for two adults sharing one doesn't sound bad what reductions do you have at the moment Well, if you book before February 17, you get an additional 15% reduction subject to availability.
That is a great saving. Yes, it makes the price very reasonable. In fact, you need travel insurance. Yeah, I guess that's better. had seven day cover for both of us it's £17 88 ok do you want to book today? I think we should, but can I check with my wife? Can you book the reservation for me? I can wait until 1:00 p.m. ok ok i will contact you right away just give you a reference for booking ok ok j m15 thanks i will get back to you as soon as i can and definitely before 1pm this is too good a deal to miss that's the end of section 1 now you have half a minute to check your

.I'll move on to Section Three. Section three. You will hear a student asking about changing her course first. You have some time to look at the questions. 21 to 25 now listen carefully and answer the questions 21 to 25 hello my name is Rosanna McLaren um I'm a little early but I have an appointment to see the registration assistant Andy Matthews at 10:00 am. hi im andy matthews nice to meet you nice to meet you my tutor advised me to come see you to change my course yes i got an email from your tutor david i came let me call him here we are he says for tea rosanna mclaren is wednesday course on time partial a monstrous change to the pr gram do you have any problem with the course itself oh no i love it i think the course is really worth the theory sessions once a week wednesdays from 10 am to 3 pm are really good you have two two hour sessions so yeah that's it and I have to say that I think the practical session from four to nine in the fashion workshops is also a lot of fun but I find it very exhausting and it also makes me exhausted from my work the Thursday and Friday you work the other four days of the week yes and some Saturdays I see so what do you want to do I would like to switch to the program with the distance learning component instead of the Wednesday sessions is yes that is a possibility that I see from your tutor dr.
Vine that he has no problem with this, but you realize that you may have a different guardian. Yes, I am aware that it is a shame because he is a very good shot. What should I do now first? on this transfer form and fee reduction claim form oh i didn't realize it was cheaper oh yes it's a thousand pounds less a year it gets even better can i start the distance learning program from now on ? I don't see why not, I just need to get a signature from your guardian, which I'll just email to him from time to time, he can sign it and send it to internal mail, that's fine, but I also need to discuss with you what that is involved. in the distance education program to make sure you have everything clear well I understand I attend the weekend course once a month and I can reserve a bench in the fashion workshop at any other time you have a computer at home for learning to distance oh yes i have the necessary equipment to make video calls over the internet the internet is already the flexibility of distance learning over the internet which is very useful and what makes it even more interesting is that i don't have to spend a lot of time traveling to and from University on Wednesdays I can fit it into my own routine as I will be able to do theory over the internet from home whenever I want, same goes for booking an online tutorial using Skype, yeah that's amazing isn't it ? a year now and it's going pretty well, may I ask if it's possible to have a face to face tutorial at any time?
There's no reason you can't do it before you hear the rest of the conversation. have some time to look at questions 26-30 now listen carefully and answer questions 26-30 what about the distance learning assessment? I guess its the same as for the other program let me see every month you are expected to keep a written journal of the course and present a seminar paper and at the end of the course there will be a written exam which will account for 30% of the total grades what about the course work how much does the design portfolio you have to submit at the end represent 50% I would point out just one thing and that is that in the distance learning programme, some tutors like to look at the design portfolio twice a quarter to make sure that you are on the right track, but of course you can view it at any time to show your tutor and as part of the evaluation for the portfolio you have to present at least one fashion item in a fashion show at the end of the course there is something but no that's all thanks for all your help no problem I hope everything goes well ok for you now it's the end of section 3 now you have half a minute to review your answers come on I'll go to section four section four you'll hear a talk about the effect of architecture on people's moods first you have some time to look at questions 31 to 40 now listen car my group has been doing a project on the importance of architecture on people's lives and if it has any impact on people's lives in general the main role I have played is in collecting data to find out what effect various buildings have on people's moods people, that is, if ugly buildings make people unhappy and if beautiful buildings do the opposite, we had originally thought of starting to measure people's reactions by using a questionnaire with about 40 questions that we were going to hand out to people, including students at the University, but we were concerned that completing the questionnaire would take too long for people to complete, so we gave up on the idea.
So, I'm several of the graduate students for advice. One of them came up with the simple idea. of showing people images of various buildings from different periods and styles instead of handing out the questionnaire and asking them to indicate how they felt on a scale of one to five about the images where one was unhappy and fard was very happy, to people Also being given the option of not saying what they felt using the scale meant it would be much simpler to record people's reactions. I decided to follow this advice and so the first stage was to collect a large number of images.
I used Google to print out color images of views of houses and apartment blocks where people live anddifferent types of buildings where they work. I started with about 30 or 40 and then whittled it down to ten images. Media resources in the Murray Building at the University's Judge Street branch helped me produce the final images. I had them enlarged to A4 size and we used color instead of black and white to make the details in the images clearer. We did five games. of images and for protection when handling them we glued the images onto a hard card and then used a machine to wrap them with plastic wrap the cars five of us targeted different age groups went to a local school w here we got permission to ask a group Ofteenagers aged 11-18 we also asked a sample of the general public, including tourists from around the world coming off the modern strip in London, what they thought.
Our goal is to ask people of different age groups, namely 20-40 and 50 and over. What our group learned the most from the project was firstly the value of teamwork and secondly we found that we had to appoint a leader to prevent us from falling apart in different directions so it turned out to be a lesson invaluable to all of us as the results were intriguing to us in the end the sample consisted of 311 respondents initially we thought people would not be interested in participating with the younger age group their reaction was very mixed it was clear the younger age group would not had no preference pattern at all, as they frequently did not react to images for the 2240 age group.
We found that they tended to score higher in the mid-range around 3. We found that of the 3 groups, the most likely that they are favorably affected by the images, that is, they were more likely to rate the images, since 5 were people aged 50 or older and no one in this age group stopped saying what their reaction was, which was unique to all 3 groups in total I have to say that 71 mean people indicated that they did not react to a picture at all. Our overall conclusion is that we need to find out more about why people react the way they do, but perhaps give them a chance to explain the reasons for their decisions. i would like to end there and give my teammates a chance to add anything i missed or answer any questions or suggestions that is the end of section 4 now you have half a minute to check your answers that is the end of the
