I Tried Making a Game Better Than ChatGPT

Apr 22, 2024
A while ago I made a

game

entirely using GPT chat. You play as a janitor working in this top secret underground facility, clean up some dirt and witness a prisoner being turned into a weapon with this machine and then you turn the guard into a weapon with the same machine. and escape and that's it, basically what I'm trying to say is that this

game

sucks and it's all the gpt chat's fault I'm sorry I forgot he likes to be called Al, it's all Al's fault, how dare you? This is the best game ever made, do you think?

Could you do it

better

. Am I really going to recreate this monstrosity of a game just because an angry AI decided to challenge me? Yeah, you know, this should be pretty easy. I started by creating a new project with Unity, the best game engine for everyday game developers. Unity has a great reputation in their community and they always release updates for universal support. Surely Unity will continue to thrive in the years to come anyway. The game begins in a janitor's closet. A very ugly janitor's closet. Al is clearly not an artist, that's not my fault. You are the one who made all the art in the game, no one needs to know that, so for my game to fix this horrible art made by Owl, I made a simple room and then I started modeling, I made a shelf, a bed, bleach, beans, you.

More Interesting Facts About,

i tried making a game better than chatgpt...

I know everything a janitor needs and now I have a real janitor's closet, unlike Al. I can't even imagine doing something that bad, but I think I got a little carried away after

making

the janitor's closet. I may or may not have made a full prison don't ask me how long this took the answer is too long I made an office a lobby some jail cells uh I just ignored the prisoners I haven't been able to cheer them up yet but I'll do that too a cafeteria with great selection of food, there are beans, beans with a drink, last but not least even more beans and I also did a bath well so I'm still working on the bath.

I think there might be something wrong with the mirror. Right now to make the mirror I'm using something called texture rendering, what that means is that there's a camera inside the mirror and then the mirror texture is a projection of what the camera sees, which should work, but obviously it doesn't. it is. working, so I need to think of something else which is not going to be easy. My current method is already quite complicated, so any solution will definitely be even more complicated, so apparently Unity only has a built-in mirror object that you can create. Because?
i tried making a game better than chatgpt
Nobody tells me this. I spent a whole day trying to fix the mirror, but hey, at least now I have a fully working mirror, except you might notice one pretty big problem: this game runs slower than my grandma did after she fell. On the stairs, no grandmas were hurt during the

making

of this video and it's also a big deal because, believe it or not, I don't actually know how to optimize a game, but after doing a little research I discovered that Unity has this useful feature called profile generator. I'm not 100% sure what I'm seeing, but from what I can tell, all this green is the amount of resources the CPU is putting into rendering and as you can see, there's quite a lot of green, which means the Most of the lag comes from rendering, probably due to my very high poly models, but why would this cause my game to run at a really low FPS when a game like Elden sounds, looks, you know a little

better

and has a slightly larger map, can run constantly at 60 FPS, well they use something called occlusion selection.
Cing occlusion will make sure that objects are only rendered when necessary, so if the camera doesn't see an object or is behind a wall it won't render and setting up hanging occlusion on the unit is pretty simple, everything What I need to do is set each object as an include or an olude, what do those two things mean? Who knows? I just clicked all the boxes and now my game runs a little better, it doesn't run well but it's better than 20 FPS. I also

tried

optimizing my models but that didn't work, but at least it's an improvement, except for the mirror.
I have no idea what happened. but for some reason the objects in the bathroom keep disappearing, you might think this is due to the color of the occlusion, but none of these objects are occluders or udies so I have no idea why this happens. My best guess is that they are ghosts, so enter this bathroom at your own risk. Alright, what do you think of my map? Pretty good, right, no, it sucks. My map is simple and functional. Your map barely runs at 60 FPS. Your prisoners are still unanimated and you can see the reflection of your mediocre player model in the mirror.
I get the impression that Al doesn't like my map, but Al is technically right. I guess not about the prisoners. I promise I'll address them, but he's right about the mirror. I was trying to ignore the problem. but I guess it's time to fix it and make a real player model and when I say create I mean I'll take the character model I used for my last game and the game before that and the game before that and I'll make it look like a janitor , there's nothing wrong with wanting to make the most of my resources, it's fine, I could definitely make a new model if I wanted to, it's not like I forgot how to make a character model, so I brought in the new janitor. model in the game to replace the old janitor model, but for some reason it looks like it just got 10 Boogie Bombs simultaneously, so I made some changes to the camera controller script which seemed to fix most of the problems, except that the player is watching. a bit stiff so I decided to make some animations wait, sorry, I said make, I meant steal, so I went to my favorite animation stealing website, mixed them up, downloaded a bunch of animations and added them to my game and As you can see, it works pretty well as long as you're not in first person, which is a problem since I'm making a first person game, but luckily I think I have a solution.
I can override the players animations to lock their column in place. Don't worry, this is very ethical, the only problem is that it looks a little strange in the mirror, but the mirror doesn't work either, so it doesn't matter. So what do you think now my game has a better map? A better player than your game, how dare you? At least on my map there is something to do. Al is right. All I have is an empty map, so I guess it's time to start working on some gameplay, and since the player is a janitor, a lot of that gameplay will be cleaning up, which is a lot of fun in Al's game.
Before you start cleaning, there is a note that explains what you need to do and tells you what to do. I want you to enlist in the war effort by pressing the join button as The new recruit will not only be able to participate in my plan to take over the world, but you will also have access to classified information about my upcoming games, you will be able to vote on the features you want to see in the games and you will get early access to the games sooner. anyone else, so if he has an extra dollar a month, that's it, $1 a month.
I literally made this as cheap as YouTu. He will allow me to press the button now and register. If not, you better subscribe or else send the troops after you wow, that was a very long note. I think I should probably think of another way to tell people what they need to do, instead of a note. I made a super immersive and cinematic cut scene. It's still a work in progress okay all I've done so far is create some animations but for this scene to really be epic I need to add some dialogue so I'm asking the best voice actor I know to record some lines.
Yes, that's right, I'm a voice actor. If you don't believe me, let my natural voice acting skills convince you. Wake up hey wake up yeah like I said I'm a voice actor and with that addition of my amazing voice acting skills this cut scene is now really awesome and it's definitely better than Al's stupid note but there's still a problem to fix before I can start cleaning and I'm very excited to start cleaning. You may notice that in Al's game, the player is holding a mop, which is the main tool and weapon. of the game, but you never pick it up, which I mean it's not very realistic, so in my game, to get the mop, you have to pick it up in the janitor's closet before you can leave, but, as you can see, it's really doesn't work and that's because in Al's game the mob can just float in the air when you hold it, but in my game I decided to give the player a full body, all because of a stupid mirror that still doesn't work.
The player really needs to hand hold them and I think it's safe to say that he is not holding them correctly to fix this problem. All I need to do is create a new animation layer. This new animation layer will allow the player to play multiple games. animations at the same time, if I create an avatar mask and select the character's right arm, the new animation will only affect that arm, so now I can play my normal walking animations, but when I pick up the mop, the new animation layer will activate and the animation of the right arms will be overridden with a new animation that I may have also stolen from mixim and with the mop finally ready, I can now add the most exciting feature of the game: cleaning.
I know you were waiting for it in the game. You're tasked with cleaning up this mess, but let's be honest, this looks like the bottom of my toilet after Taco Bell's two-for-one special anyway, instead of cleaning up this disgusting diarrhea in these random rooms for practically no reason why. I want cleaning to make some sense in my game, so instead your very nice boss on speaker will tell you to go to the cafeteria first, go to the cafeteria and when you walk in there will be food everywhere everywhere Whatever you look at, there will be beans and if you look more closely, there will be even more beans.
I still need to make the beans, but you know, I just wanted to get the idea across, so then I started making the beans, and unlike Al, I actually know how to make art. I mean, can you believe that Al? the art is that bad so i guess it's time to mop up the beans yeah i forgot to make the mop animation but it shouldn't be too hard to create it sorry wait i said create a mop animation no , I meant to steal a mixo animation that looks pretty much like someone mopping, then I just played on the mop animation layer I set up earlier and now I have a perfect mop animation.
I think this is cool, so in Al's game, once you finish cleaning, you meet a stranger Half of the experiment takes place in a secret room, except the secret room is right there. I don't know if Al knows what a secret means and that's why I created the super secret and super scary high security bunker door instead of coming randomly. Throughout the experiment, your boss will politely ask you to enter the bunker through the loudspeaker. Then you will have to go get the keys to the bunker. They are in the office through the holding cells, but once you get the keys and open the door, you will encounter the most terrifying experiment ever created.
I'll give you a warning to look away because you may never be able to unsee what you're about to see. I just have to do it first, but I promise it will be scary. I started by Making the scariest part of the bunker are the stairs, if you don't think stairs are scary, let me tell you that not only have they claimed the lives of countless elderly people across the country, but my stairs are also very, very long, which will fill you with Dread and Terror as you think about the horrible experiment you are about to encounter at the end of your long journey up the stairs.
Just kidding, it's actually because I recorded a very long voice line that needs to be played before you enter the bunker, but when I can probably see there's a problem with the stairs, they're pretty bumpy and you can't go up them either, which you can't. It's cool, but it shouldn't be too hard of a problem to fix, so I spent some time updating them. the player movement script to work with the stairs and uh somehow I made it even worse but that's okay I'll just spend a little more time trying to fix them and hopefully it should work fine now I'm just floating not even I do.
I know how this is happening so I've spent the last 3 days working on these ladders and they still don't work, but I have a final idea that I think should fix all the problems if you apply a downward force on a ladder. object which is basically this was a really complicated way of saying that I changed the direction of gravity from this to this. I spent several days working on this and the solution was that simple, well at least it works now I guess, after finally finishing the stairs I started construction of the bunker which ispretty much just a box, then I equipped the bunker with some of the models from the rest of the map.
I made some new ones, like this board, when I first looked at it, it may have been of no use. It makes sense, but this board contains the most important aspect of any gaming story and this story is so deep that not even Matt Game Theory Pat could solve it oh yeah, I also made a remote controlled magnetized death machine. The game has a crusher machine. That attracts people, but there are some problems with that machine, so I decided to change it a little to demonstrate how it works. I took one of the prisoners. No, it's okay, they're not animated yet, but I told you I'll do it. anyway, I just put one of the prisoners under the magnet, pulled the lever and now they are attracted to the magnet, how does a magnet attract a living creature? uh keep going so once the prisoner is attached to the magnet you just push the big red button and the formulation process starts.
What does formulation mean? I have no idea but it sounds a bit scientific and since this is a very scientific process I think it fits quite well. Anyway the prisoner falls into this V and once the formulation process is finished the prisoner will become in a weapon. If you think it's weird, complain to Al. I didn't think of this, so you're telling me it's weird. turning people into weapons yeah how is anyone supposed to really know they need to use a machine to turn a prisoner into a weapon? It should be pretty simple, it's not a complicated process, although Al thinks this whole process makes some kind of sense.
I'm going to try to make sure the player at least somewhat understands what he's supposed to do, but I honestly have no idea how I'm supposed to do it. The first thing I thought about is being able to show the player the experiment happens before they need to do it, but the hard part of that is making sure the player is looking at the experiment because at such a detailed level it can be quite easy for the player to have Attention everywhere to get the player in front of the window I made a short cutscene that will play once you enter the bunker.
I'd like to think I've gotten pretty good at doing these immersive scenes, a guard will drag a totally alive prisoner into another room probably because he made a big mess on the window, so as a janitor you'll have to go clean the window with your mop and then I made another cutscene that will play while you clear the window where a guard will be hanging around. prisoner in a gun every time I say it I think it makes less sense, but I hope these scenes make it a little easier to understand, but let's be honest, probably not, especially if the scene fails and the Prisoner doesn't become a weapon, it simply falls through the machine, but the chances of this happening are quite low.
I think there's about a 50% chance so I think it should be fine, but now the next step is to get the player to turn a prisoner into a weapon, so I gave the guard some keys that will open the door to the experiment room, but uh-oh, if you take the keys, the guard will get a little angry and threaten you with his gun, but you know what I don't believe. This is threatening enough, so instead of him pointing his gun at you he will now immediately open fire and try to kill you, but I still don't think this is threatening enough that he can now chase you with his totally serious, not at all silly attitude. . walk, but don't worry, you can use your trusty party to defend yourself and destroy the guard by exploding him into thousands of small pieces and once you have eliminated the guard, you can use the keys to open the door to the experiment room. but what you don't know is that I added a trigger when you go down the stairs that will make the guard in the experiment room become hostile, so once you enter the room you now need to survive another guard with a really serious walk, definitely not stupid.
Well, that was surprisingly easy, yes, so maybe the mop is a little overpowered, but anyway, next you should try to remember how to use this contraption and good luck with that. I added a few more prisoners in the corner and added the ability for you to drag them around, luckily the dragon in my game is a little worse than Al's so this is one aspect that has me beat, but I don't mind. Say I said that, but by using drag you can catch one of the prisoners. the magnet and then use the controls to turn it into a weapon but then you can go pick up the weapon and get a new weapon in Al's game.
Once you pick up the weapon you need to go and break down the door in the experiment room , but there is no door in my experiment room, so I guess I'll have to use the one in the other room, so after a bit of work, you can now take the gun and break down the door once again. I want to try to make I'm sure the player knows that he needs to do this, so I added a voice line that plays when you try to interact with the door. I'm sure you'll all instantly know what to do after hearing another one of my amazing voice performances once.
The guards get here, all they have to do is use their gun to take him down and then they're done, as long as they decide to interact with this random door on the other side of the door. I added some guards, but not some as well. many I definitely don't want to overwhelm the player with too many enemies, that would be a bad idea, but apparently, like the mop, I made the weapon a little too powerful, maybe making the weapon a one-shot was not an option. great idea anyway. Now it's time to make the endgame. In Al's game, you come across this bright yellow room at the end of a hallway and once you enter the room, the game fades to black and ends.
This might hurt Al's feelings, but this is probably the worst ending. In any video game like you could have a better ending. I can definitely do a better ending than that. I'd like to see you try it. Well, I'll do it then. This will be easy. What a great ending, don't you think! Al literally looks the same as my ending, well that's where Al is wrong. My final room has a door that practically automatically makes it better and when you really think about it, I've faithfully remade Al's game. I haven't really added anything. new to the game except for this door, so I think thanks to this door I officially made a better game than the GPT chapter.
You think your game is better because of a gate. What's with the cut scene that only works half the time? What's wrong with the gun? that doesn't even fire bullets properly and you haven't even animated the prisoners yet, okay, the video's over, I won, okay, go watch this video where I make a very serious VR boxing game, bye.
