I Make a Guitar From BULLETS & EPOXY for Mat Best

May 31, 2021
A year and a half ago I told Matt Bess that I would build him the most epic

guitar

I could conceive. If we throw some shells at a

guitar

. Yeah, then all the monsters he's finally made. You're going to love this one. The biggest immediate problem with this project is the fact that I had never built a guitar before, so like everyone else, I bought one to emulate it, so I used to dabble and play guitar a bit before football consumed all of my time. aspects of my life. my life as a kid and um and I've had a Gibson SG style guitar ever since.

I'm a big fan of this style of box and that's exactly what it is so what we're going to do is use this box to create a mold a casting to then

make

a mold now yeah we're going to use this style of body to Let the body shape of our guitar be more or less the same, so I'm going to take this apart and then put it back together. It should be pretty cool, let's just tape it up, now there's some integral holes here that we don't want, we don't want silicone getting into them and then what we should be able to do is build a little rough shape and then we pour in our soft silicone to

make

our body and then from there we'll get into these details while, well, let everything dry, we'll just use this aluminum flashing and basically just make a little dam next to the bench, so this is where some may say that the rubber meets the road and by road I mean Randy Rhodes that's poor ok the mold drying instructions say to give it a good pat to release what's inside so I'm very glad to May this not have thrown you everywhere.

What will we break today? Something's wrong, no, it's not right, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the food didn't dry, but yes, but no, it produces absolutely nothing. sense, come on, that's stuck in the little holes, come on, why are you sticking? Yeah, this is okay, so our mold looks slightly above average, that's always the goal, so let's glue it back to something flat. I have to do this in a poor controlled environment, so let's go to the office and pour this. Now it's time for fun. Now let's put these polished, never-impacted 223 shells on the Z guitar and let the freedom pour out.

We want something like that. let's work on some details just to make it a little more custom, let's take this apart and see if we can't change a few things. We ordered black tuning pegs because no one likes chrome. They're still bad, so I go. To do it the old fashioned way, muriatic acid we let them soak for a while and then we'll use this nouveau sculpted slate black that gives them this kind of antique, rustic finishes, so while Sam and Jordan are ruining parts that are irreplaceable. I'm going to build a case because every guitar has to have a case, we're going to mill some wood so we cut out all the parts and I want it to look a little more sophisticated so we're going to do case joints. the side and I'm not talking about the fancy French pinkie, we're talking about fires, hammers and lacquer sophistication, yes, but first the case joints, hey, Marco Reyna, what are you running?, you're working on it, now it's the time to hit if you don't know.

These are called space balls, they're just little rubber balls, they're soft, you put them in when you're making a floating panel, they give it a little bit of resistance so the shaker style insert type of panel doesn't vibrate as much. so as the wood expands and contracts it moves with it and keeps everything nice and tight because you don't want to glue a panel like this the box will just explode everyone will be sad space balls great tips oh my gosh oh friend I just swept now is the time I am most terrified because we have to take this box that we have spent many hours making and I have to cut it in half.
I already have this resolved. I marked a line around it. so we have a one third up and two thirds down kind of job, then we set up the table saw with a little feather board so it doesn't really pick this up, we're going to send this out. Sam did a great job getting the box for The Case Over and Jordan had a good idea: We're going to put the coffee and black rifle bullseye logo on top for you to set up on the board and then we'll come back to start to prepare the interior. For some skins for the first time in this store, we are working with skins, let's get furry squirrels to get foam and freedom, we are going well, so try number one when doing this.
It didn't turn out so well, it's poop. Sam went and picked up some better pelts. The fur he got yesterday we're not going to tell you what it looked like, so we're going to give it another chance. Take a slightly different route. He also had this incredibly delicious drink. I feel much more ready to go. Sam. are you ready, come on, if you want to be as ready as Sam and I to go ahead and punch this project in the face, you can say 15 ready to drink black, white and brown. I have a link in the description now that we've got it handled.
I need to redo the inside of this guitar. Let's go with a little more. It's very hairy. I have to cut some things. Different approach. Going back to the beginning. Basically, well, it doesn't look as bad as the last fur. Like I said, I won't describe what it looks like, so yeah, we'll keep working on that pretty awesome look. Keep calling the first name one more time, time is upon us, let us spray so we are finally dry, which means it is. d molding time okay, okay, there's a lot of bubbles on this side, uh, there's some bubbles, okay, damn, damn, damn, damn, so we gave this a good try, y'all these bobbles here, this just doesn't measure up.
I'm not giving this to anyone, so that's why we have a new plan. I went ahead and invested in this jiggy jicama, a vacuum cooker, so what we're going to do is put all of our tripe in three liters. of a resin, we put it in the pot, suck out all the air and then try to degas it as much as we can before putting it in the mold and hope that helps with the bubbles that were captured in the first round, I have never done this before. Imagine, let's be like a squirrel. I will never enjoy sitting here for five minutes holding a vacuum pot from the mixer.
Sam tried it in a very squirrelly way. Put it in the hole. Sam. I see a lot of Michael Blue Blaze there. You can see a lot. to the top, oh you were completely wrong, we overdid it, we sure did, why the hell don't the bubbles disappear? Well, no one told me not to put in all the effort. What made you think as a child that I wouldn't go? wall opening that breezy propane grill freedom burgers we'll start a five minute timer siri appears okay 25 minutes and counting very exciting cinematography we just farted in the gas house all we have is, you know , there is no time, are you kidding me?
Going one at a time, I can't handle this, hold it down, come down, come closer, what's up guys, welcome back to my nightmare? I'm your host, Sam Green. We placed the top and side as a floating panel. That side part is not. It's not really connected except at the ends. The mate is super strong, I will probably break it in half if I don't do it right, so to solve the problem of this little wobble that we have, there is the center support piece that I am going to use. I'm going to put a couple of screws in here and that will help tighten this up.
It's dry, let's see if it stinks this time, it's better, so we made this one and it was terrible and we didn't like the way it turned out. We looked at it but tried some finishing cabins. We like the way they shine, but it looks terrible. This one looks less terrible but it's not shiny, so we need to make this one look more like this one, but better. This one, the back looks great. There are still some. However, there are air bubbles on the front and this might be a horrible idea, but the only thing I can think of to get rid of them is to drill them out with this little dremel bit and then go over them with a coat of

epoxy

.
I really hope this works. this is the definition of getting antsy, why didn't I do a small scale test before drilling 400,000 holes in Matt's guitar? It did the exact opposite of what he wanted, I filled out another one, it's working, have they ever done anything? This amazing, uh, Gibson, got you? Now it's time to put a pocket on the back here and then finish the final sanding. We should be able to start assembling. Very soon, very excited. I think it looks amazing. Let's stand up. It wasn't wrinkled enough. In this project, the next thing we have to do is drill a huge hole for the electronic components to fit.
Now we just have to pray that this can go horribly wrong. There is no way back. Now let's dive into this. We put in no less than a After a dozen hours and pray for the

best

, we're going to drill the holes for all the knobs and then drill them after we're done because they're press fit and we're going to want to

epoxy

those holes now. We just put a couple of holes in the front here and what could go wrong, just holes in the front, so it's polished, it's sanded and it's as good as I can get it by hand.
Now let's hit it with this two-part guitar. We finish what we bought online with our fingers crossed, let us spray so we look pretty good. We are left without finishing the back part. I already polished it decently and it's nice and flat and smooth as glass so we'll do the same on the front here 320 and then wet hand sanding for 17 hours frown let's put this sucker together I know what I'm doing I guess which we're going to start with these holes here for the bridge and then go up from there now. I need to drill crazy holes.
We have this stupid long drill bit. Basically, everything could go wrong. Oh, this has never been welded before. Why not start with a guitar that's not for me? Isn't it melting like this? It shouldn't take that long. I'm going to start by putting all these things back here. I'll go to the headstock, put this back together, and then we'll put the neck on the guitar. I don't think anyone here knows how to play the guitar, but we'll try to make some noise. Come on, what's up, nerds, oh look, who decided to show up. Yes, yes, this looks sweet.
We are so close. Yes, I think everything should line up from here. Nice rumor, right, you're ready, guys. I forgot it. This works, give me power, that's all I have, so I don't really know how to play. One thing everyone overlooks about building guitars on the internet. I think it's how hard it is to get the guitar to sound the way it's supposed to. finally after several weeks of pain and literally a heart attack on the brink she's done and I can't wait to show you this girl see what happens well hey bam wait a way to ruin that John we just saw the video and it's terrible, yes.
You know what we're going to surprise Matt because he doesn't know, it was supposed to be your Christmas, okay, here we go, that was there and it took a little bit of a night, yeah, so all the freedom, holy, I don't. I don't even know how I know how to do this and my name is engraved there. I gotta get guitar lessons dude this is epic guys thanks. See where he cut some of the brass to get that flat line mold and then put another layer on. of epoxy on whatever, that's cool, this is so epic, thank you all so much for watching this, if you want to see more of Black Rifle Coffee they are linked here and if you want to see me pour 5000

bullets

on a table for them you have that video queued for you right here
