I needed a whole team of people just to do a simple take. because we were a bunch of computer nerds and we had applied our computer education to our camera technology with these fancy little digital things that could do things that the big guys didn't think we could do, but you know what I've been resting on. my laurels the last two years the movie world well they caught up with us they got very nerdy too we've lost our edge now they're doing things we can't do with little packages we don't have it's time to do it fix i'm going to reapply my nerdstry i'm going to rise from the womb of camera technology and i'm going to build the

perfect

camera now there are so many options here i'm like i'm all fired up about trying to figure out how i'm going to

make

High bit rate. yeah wireless video people under 10 pounds under 20 dude no because gimbles can't hold 20 pounds of sound into your camera wirelessly so i want the camera to be able to instantly pop a thing, blow up something else, something that can be left. easy to set up on the ground good thermal management low light waveforms audio levels while turning internal mics wheels knobs sticks it has it's a gas powered chamber the next thing to do is talk about what tools can really achieve this and if they really we can build this perfect camera the real key to the perfect camera is to steal a page from the gopro playbook gopro basically just makes a little cube of a camera and you can put that cube on whatever rig you need it you want it on your front you want it on a tripod you want it on a gimbal you want it on a drone falling out of the sky all these solutions and more can be yours when you use the gopro system and i was inspired by that so i got this cool shoulder mount right here this is called a tail mount The dovetail is like a wedge and you slide a plate on top of it that drags it's called the bridge plate a piece of metal that is cut like this with some screws on top it slides in at over half the price of the dove's egg shoulder for a stupid little plate company had all the features you would want in the camera you never have to buy another camera the big camera man and the idea is that the bridge plate on top of that I have an adapter for the quick the release plate that goes on our fluid head of the tripod put just put the camera on this is going to cost me 850 i have all this different gear i'm going to try it all out and then once i figure out exactly what we need i'll hold on let's get to that and we'll be all set and we never had a motherboard for that now we do um here is hold it down ideally we just have the camera built permanently and we don't have to keep building it all the time the side handles will attach to another quick release plate get in there if you want , there's a link in the description below for all the gear we use, take a look at our old brain with the new gemini sensor they used to be on helium. which was 8k the gemini is 5k and you might think that's downgraded psych it's sideways motion it has much better light sensitivity and dynamic range there's a gemini in it oh that's well, they changed the freight, they changed the plate there, we. go cutting dual iso on this which means you can shoot natively at 800 iso and 3200 iso with no noise the a7 is using post noise reduction on footage whereas this is just tuned love it love it love the red craft but i also like how when they replace the sensor they also go around the outside of the camera and they put gemini 5k on there and 5k has 35 on there You kind of form a relationship with them, it's the same camera, but now it's a little different, right?

And every time we have each of the reds we've had we've updated it I'm sure on your screen you can see this is brighter than that right this is 32 to me what do you say 6400 like this and and and we're getting a really clean image here looks great mate now you can shoot 240 frames per second in normal light problem trying to control the focus of your camera with one hand on the lens doesn't just throw your camera off balance very often , you don't have an extra hand to position the lens if you're shooting on a gimbal not good, you want to have both hands to stabilize the camera solution wireless focus doesn't use your phone doesn't use wi-fi but uses good radio control traditional no i don't regret making fun of those antennas this unit allows me to focus without having to touch the camera or lens i don't need a rail i don't need a motor i don't need a bunch of wires it's literally just a camera body a lens and this little thing that goes right inside the camera body like it's part of the For starters I needed a way to control the camera so back in the day it would be a touch screen and if you removed the touch screen and put it in with a small hd monitor which was wonderful then i used the side handle controller which has a little d-pad and the enter button and it was actually pretty cool because the touch screen is great but you really don't want finger smudges all over the screen at the end of the day does it work really well yeah look at that and thats just using the servo motors on the lens no wires no rails no motors been waiting ages or something problem if its operating the camera and his friend is focusing well now he doesn't want them just breathing into his ear looking at the monitor as carmichael is demonstrating right now with the camera he wants them alone with their own monitor it must be wireless you give them wireless focus give them wireless video this is the little hd volt 500 this is the rx and this is the tx that sends out our transmitter and receiver this is a wireless monitor system we are going to mount a monitor on your camera and it streams wirelessly to a second monitor thanks smarthd problem if i want listening to audio from my camera looks like carmichael right now with wires all over the place solution i just got a cheap little bluetooth adapter that i put in the camera and now i can hear what i'm listening to with these headphones its great bluetooth oh boy why what is not integrated in the cameras? now my other friend who is receiving audio can also use bluetooth headphones and can hear exactly what he is hearing problem i used to have to use xlr cables to run the audio to the camera solution we are using the sennheiser g4 system wirelessly sending audio from our boom to our camera or record on camera you need really good lenses you need really good lenses we use sigma lenses sigma art series lenses are just like canon l series lenses but even better that's right canon l series lenses they are good sigma art series lenses are nicer.

GoPro basically just makes a little cube of the camera. You can put that cube on any platform you need and I built this system to make it work. I have made the perfect camera. We're on the shoulder monitor. thing on camera getting my slider shots there it is wow im on a tripod adding a third leg to keep it from falling on the right gimbals gimbals are the future they make things super stable so i found this gimbal this is it lita prop notice the the way it's designed they've made it really compact where all three axis are built right here right in the center so you can take it you can position it right so now you've seen me take this camera and move it from rig to rig a rig a rig let me remove the battery outside of that i dont have to change anything on the camera here put it here the gimbal itself powers the camera which saves me weight which is awesome there it is i have a gimbal works great i know that i hear what you say but niko if you change lenses you have to rebalance you're right i just have to rebalance the tables and vice versa because i kept the lens in line with the roll axis all i have to do is make it too light weight or too heavy back , slide it back and forth and that's it, someone being able to focus wirelessly and someone being able to wirelessly monitor someone being able to wirelessly pump audio into it or someone being able to listen to audio wirelessly is exactly what you need in a gimbal and I don't have to worry about suddenly having to take my camera apart or having a b-cam or c-cam on any of these other rigs, all I have to do at the end of the day when I'm back using other equipment, take this out and you can put the camera wherever you want.
