I Got A K-Pop Makeover

So, after taking some futuristic-looking Instagrams, we tried a couple of medium-executed slow-motion walks, as if to mimic filming a music video. Tyler: No... I don't know. Which actually showed off the outfit quite well. The tinsel flowed, the straps held back, the sideburns were windswept, and there was even an opportunity for an outrageous Jimin-style shoulder reveal. But unfortunately, while everything was focused on the moment,... we forgot about Tyler. Tyler: Yeah, fuck.

And after Tyler completely ate it on a bollard or something, it seemed like it was time to end it. Tyler: Alright, you want rock and roll? Well! So that was my K-Pop

. Overall, I had a bit of fun with the set and had a great time touring around Seoul. Safiya: Wow! And I feel like I learned a lot about the K-Pop style and some of the tropes that they like, they express the different tones of the groups and performers. Tyler: This is swag. To be honest, I think I liked everything about this look. My only real complaint was that the jacket got a little worn and tangled getting in and out of cabs all day.

So I think it might be intended more for a one-off three-minute performance. Now I will admit that while we were doing our research, I fell down the rabbit hole of K-Pop suggested videos and became a K-Pop fan, which in a way helped me develop a working theory as to why K-Pop Pop could be so popular. popular. K-Pop's international reach is now generally considered to be part of what is known as Hallyu or the "Korean Wave." Also known as the growing relevance of South Korean pop culture on the world stage since the late '90s. But in terms of its more recent explosiveness in the West, I think YouTube itself is playing a huge role because once you click on a video, there is a lot of K-Pop content on the platform that algorithmically refers to you.

It's hard not to get caught up because you can keep looking. From performances to dance practices to Korean variety shows, it's pretty easy to have your entire homepage become K-Pop. And on top of that, there are also legions of enthusiastic fans on the platform who try to promote their favorites by adding subtitles to each and every video they can and creating countless compilation and meme videos to contribute to the stream. In fact, when I think about it, it's almost miraculous that I haven't fallen into the K-Pop hole until now, but I'm happy to be here. I guess you could say this is my debut.
