I Bought A Custom Built MYSTERY Auction Car For $1,100! Looks Like A Movie/Concept Car From The 80s

Feb 27, 2020
be Well, and Pat just pointed out how much longer this is than a factory Firebird, so take a look at the front and rear. Pat, what do you think a couple of feet added to this car? It's gotta weigh a ton even if you can open that hatch, there's no impact that can keep your head up, dude, moment of truth, here we go, okay, you know what? Let's get the bird back. Okay, we connected the Trans Am's bridges, we're not going to start it. 'cause I want to hear this, so we'll see if that gives it enough juice, Pat do the honors, try again, okay, go ahead, started it's funny, it's good, it's kinda funny, yeah man, it's that weak, very weak, very kind.

He seemed a little stressed, you know, yeah, oh, yeah, Doyle, wow, that

looks

great, Dad says a little, but it actually

looks

like new, uh, yeah, I gotta say it, man, I know the battery's probably weak, but it is very difficult to turn it around. right, I'm done playing I took the battery out of the Trans Am turbo and put it in the weird red 80's Trans Am. I don't know what I'm going to call this car yet, comment below, we should nickname this 1985 Firebird, but anyway we should be able to. to start it if it's going to start, so go ahead pet, wait, wait, turn off the key.

More Interesting Facts About,

I think there is something wrong with this engine. I like that it starts really slow, like it's partially, but like it's stuck, it feels like it's stuck because we know. This battery is really good, let me know in the comments section guys, but that doesn't sound good at all, even if it wasn't going to start, at least it would start faster than that. God, I don't know, I mean, I. I know in theory I'm the one hoping the engines are fine, it could be a stuck accessory that's slowing it down so before we jump to any conclusions let's take the belt off and see if we can figure it out okay loosen that , so that's it. which you know it's not the alternator so it could be the power steering pump or the water pump, hopefully it's not the crank actually a little loose.

Wow, these are all too loose, okay, here we go, oh hey, if it's the power steering pump, it's easy. one that's for sure no it's not the power steering pump please be the water please be the water pump no literally all the accessories are fine buddy we're left with one option ok let's move on and start it up again, let's see how it looks. Okay let's not do it anymore you know what I was looking for there and the starter looks pretty new the oil was new so I understand honestly that could be because maybe they ran out of oil. decided to put new oil in it and they broke the starter motor because it was stuck ok wait let me collect my thoughts so we can have a bad engine in the Firebird it was listed as a non racer and driver but honestly that could be any thing from a bad battery to a blocked engine so either way at $1,100 it was a big gamble it's just a small block Chevy but I'd love to get started on this but let me know in the comments section right now, boys.

I'm going to do some research. Do you think these engines were blocked by what you just saw? I think we're going to take out a couple of spark plugs to see what we can see and see if there's anything on the spark plug. I have a small borescope. but it's dead, it's like a battery operated one, so yeah, it's very hard to get to these spark plugs with these heads, yeah, here we go. One theory is that if this engine sits idle for a long time, the piston rings may freeze in the cylinder. walls, I would think that, except I saw that safety inspection sticker and then I found another insurance card, by the way, which is from this year, so I think the car was driven in the last 12 months, but that's not enough time to freeze the rings. but man this plug looks good, it actually looks newer so there's nothing wrong with that.
I'm going to remove as many as I can and then we'll try to turn it on again, but I really don't want to do that. many more times because if it's the rings, you can take out the spark plugs and spray some penetrating oil in there and you can make it work if you're not saying the engines will last forever after that, but anyway let's take out some more spark plugs. Come out and see what happened. I was able to get two spark plugs out with these heads. A normal spark plug socket will not work. I'm going to have to get a special one.
I think they also sell a wrench when you have heads on these little ones. blocks that just get in the way of everything, but we pulled out a couple. I don't know, let's try it one more time, so we can't really get any of the other spark plugs out that I'm going to have to get. a special tool for that and I think it's time for the Firebird to move to this side of the garage, so we'll put the car on the shelf, lift it up and see what we can find under the car, see if maybe a torque converter.
One or two bolts have come loose and are getting stuck with the flex plate or who knows, so we'll inspect the car on the roof rack and then it'll have to be in the garage anyway because if it needs an engine, I'll have to order it. one and replace the engine in the next few weeks, so since it's December in Chicago, the temperature is barely above freezing right now, this is my last chance to wash the car and I hate working on dirty cars, so Let's wash this to fix it. looks really nice and then goes well on the trunk for a car with a potential blown engine this doesn't look bad to everyone guys I know it's super weird I mean it literally looks like a

movie

car to be honest with you you guys so I just can't wait to drive it look I mean imagine stopping the cars and the coffee and this bad boy right here so I know there's going to be some love of course there's going to be some hate but I think looks really cool, super retro.
Super weird anyway, let's push it into the garage right now, pick it up and see we can find it under my car, so we're good here, we're hunters, the weird Firebird Trans Am, we've got Flowmaster mufflers, we've got a spawn. high performance Panhard rod, we have an aftermarket sway bar back here, looks like the original 10 bolt, maybe it's just painted, who knows, and then we also have an aftermarket torque arm, I think it's a 3 piece or $400 on its own and it appears to be in better shape than the one on my white Trans Am, so we have an aftermarket crossmember, we still have a catalytic converter, which is a little strange, there is a little leak in the transmission here you have headers on this car it looks like we have a larger front sway bar as well as different sway bar links factory brakes and here is our engine so let's see we have an inspection cover here same so maybe we could take it off and double check the torque converter flex plate and then we can probably also See the gears on the starter motor which looks pretty new so we're going to take it off so we take the cover off so we can see the torque converter right here, its flex plate here, the teeth really don't look damaged and then I have Pat. on the car that's on, I'm going to touch the starter so we can look at this gear right now and see what's going on with that, so go ahead Pat, okay, wow, I mean, these splines on the starter. right there they can be seen completely. twisted that could be because it's so hard to turn the motor do it one more time Pat yeah okay okay and then it's supposed to retract further back so gosh I think the motor is stuck but our Next step is definitely. to get the plugs out of here so I can try to turn this over by hand.
I don't want to do it now with a breaker bar because look at the little bolt there. I don't want to stamp it. the crank if there's a lot of resistance so I think our next step is definitely to take the borescope spark plugs out of this car, the cylinders and we'll do it before we have to drop this pan because if it's nothing with the piston rings I'm going to take a look at the bearings, which means we're going to take off the oil pan here, take off a couple of caps, the main caps and some dipstick caps and see what's going on.
I mean, she looks amazing, tell me. This isn't something that will turn heads, love it or hate it, it's very rare, I get it, but it's worth $1,100, even if it requires a small block Chevy, which seriously isn't a big deal. I can buy one of these for a few hundred dollars and slap it on. here they go over the top they're very easy we'll do it on the grass it'll be fun but even then even if I put a couple grand on this thing just so I can drive it and see people The reactions are totally worth it for me guys I think that we will end there in the next episode.
We'll dig deeper into the engine to see if we can get the strange third-generation Firebird started. Comment below what I should call this car. Follow Pet, he's on Instagram, he takes amazing photos. P Morgan Racing on Instagram and definitely check out the link below for dot IO car
