I Bought A Custom Built MYSTERY Auction Car For $1,100! Looks Like A Movie/Concept Car From The 80s

Feb 27, 2020
what the heck is this guys this is my first time looking at it right now its 6am and i won this bid two days ago and i think it was probably more of a coincidence but the charger was already in the copart yard at New York literally picked it up the same day so this is all a first look for all of us and you know right away my initial reaction is this is really as bad as me I'm assuming this was all

custom

made by someone in your garage right now. I mean, I don't know much about this.

The very little research I've done in the last few days is that this is somehow related to the Banshee.

concept

you just thought this looked super weird we bid we won and here she is so i have no idea if this works or anything but this is crazy it

looks

like the door handles on a

movie

car are shaved like the pics i saw on the

auction

site it's all there like it's a solid car it has doors glass wheels it's not banged to the ground and nothing badly damaged we have a little crack there too ok so no you have a key and we don't know how to open these doors no door handle oh look at this a 2019 safety inspection that's a good sign that means maybe it worked this year ok so let's see , I don't see anything, man, how the hell, how do you get in this car?

Okay, so that strap is for the inside Handle apparently and the keys are inside hanging nicely Let's try, let's try to pull down. Wow, the exterior door handle is apparently like a seatbelt strap. Look at this. This is how the door handle is made. You didn't expect this to be anything close to practical, did you? We have the door open. Now we have to try to figure out how to open the hood and listen to it. She pulled the latch. It seems that it doesn't work well. it's a couple hits you know just you know I just push it okay she's a role ling I pushed her out of the trailer a couple months ago my friend Sam sent me an

auction

listing from New York of a Pontiac Crazy looking 80s Firebird that looked like it was made for the

movie

s or maybe it was a

concept

car or maybe someone put hundreds of hours into

custom

paint and bodywork to make it their own.

I knew right away that I had to have that car and here she is, except for the moment she turned herself in. Honestly I wasn't ready for another project so I put it under a tarp and I haven't even peeked under this tarp so I can experiment and find out exactly what this car is with you guys so I don't know what engines are under the hood . I don't know if this works. I don't know if we're going to find any interesting paperwork inside this car, but we'll figure it out together, all right. We're going to uncover the Firebird right now and push it outside so we can get a good look at this car. exactly what i

bought

to see if we can make it work but first because i have

bought

ht to auction cars and i am actually bidding on a third party i think i owe it to you guys to know exactly what i use to make sure i get the best deal on these cars this is a site called dot IO car auctions and it is an amazing research tool for cars currently selling at major auctions like Copart and IAA or cars that have sold at auctions in the past so you can use this to research your next auction buy and compare what similar cars have sold for, but you can also research the history of cars being sold at a private party or dealership to see if they have any auction history like this 2015 East 63 wagon on eBay now This car is listed as salvage but was slapped back together to look decent in photos for much more money.

I want to make money, but Auto Auction Co levels the playing field by showing you what this car looked like at auction just two months ago so you can make a more informed assessment. decision and shows you how much the seller on eBay just paid for the car if you only buy clean title cars this site is also very beneficial because some wrecked cars are sold at auctions without a brand title like this 2011 x5 this car will be repaired and you will get money with clean title even tho it was damaged i dont know about you guys but i would like to know about this accident and with this site you get all the pictures and condition of the title so you can run the VIN of literally any car you want to buy and if not there is auction history, it tells you up front, so you don't pay for that report.
I'll leave a link below in the video description box for automated auctions. I owe this special link that will get you a discount on a membership or some free bonus reports and I really hope this helps you guys so let's cut the wheel as soon as we get out a bit. I'll let you know when this nose is up so, yeah, you could start cutting, you can start cutting it, yeah. oh yeah the brakes work that's good pay off you were the first one to drive this car so what do you think of my crazy weird 80's Firebird?
There's a lot of straps on it's got brakes but heck it's just I don't know it's got a seatbelt extension here and then what's this an extra serving just pat everyone the way he's a pro photographer driving instructor high performance it takes a lot of pictures and stuff so its here to help me figure out exactly what i paid $1,100 for in the first place i want to know what's under the hood we still have to figure out how to get there i don't even know if that hatch opens i don't think it will open it's just like a molded piece it's crazy we're going to have you've seen everything like movie cars concept cars crazy things you've taken pictures of have you ever seen anything that

looks

like this? and stuff for cars like this so I've photographed a lot of Baldwin motion Corvettes and stuff like that but I don't recall seeing another one even remotely close to what this looks like we're gonna try to pop the hood but first we should see if this hatch opens because at first I didn't think it had taillights the original 3rd generation Firebird and everything else has a taillight here and on that side and then this one they mounted them here must have been towed somewhere looking towards that side, that's why there are a ton of bugs, but I don't think this will open.
I don't see how I could do it. I mean literally all of this is just one big molded chunk. There is no actual separate bumper from the side panel. no straps maybe I don't know so the side panel and bumper on this car are fully molded even the fender liner part like here is molded as well someone put literally hundreds of hours into this car and then watch this. the rs front fender and bumper i mean you literally couldn't even get them off the car it's almost like they didn't even want to have doors on the car right right they only did it once and that was it so really It makes me think it was some kind of crazy show car that didn't really get much use, but it looks like it will actually work and make the brakes work.
I took a look under it, it's got a powertrain, so anyway, let's open the hood to see what's under it. and finally see if we get it going. The battery is obviously completely dead, but these seats are really cool. I'm excited, they probably aren't very expensive, but they look nice. I can see below. I make a head So we have a carbureted car on the canal. I'll go get my channel locks ok you don't have a Camaro or Firebird from this era without a good set of channel acts to hold up your hood so here's our engine so we don't know if it's a 305 or 350 so I looked up the VIN of Of course I knew this head was a 5 liter so a 305 basically and I thought this was a carbureted engine because the 85 still had one so if I had the stock engine I would have that as you can see here tells us how to adjust the carb idle speed but this one at least looks slightly modified we have some long tube headers we have an edelbrock carb and a little different intake. it has a button a pop oh it worked that worked it wasn't working before so what did that pop really that the taillights were missing and all yeah it has to show up with the taillights what let me in the car hey oh i better not get molded in there too please don't rip please don't rip t-tops this is awesome i haven't taken a 3rd gen off by the way my first car was an 88 GT a Trans Am and then my second car was an all new 89 formula 350.
I bought the GT back when I was 15, ok, when I get it dirty with my boots, I'll try to push it up. the button as i press it is right there, look at the aura, it's orange, it's the only orange button, well oh man there's no way this hatch will open. I think it's permanently closed. it's definitely the leather case for the t-shirts oh sweet uh-huh nice it actually has the GM logo and all the good stuff Fisher body which is awesome I have one of these in my Escalade and I use it under my baby seat so that don't leave indentations in the leather oh there's a bazooka tube it's got an aftermarket radio there's a bazooka tube there's a bunch of cash I just open this up don't try it outside again but I don't think the back open at all look what got into here that literally guys i haven't explored anything so nothing too exciting.
I guess we have an old tape you can use with the 3.5mm connector. I mean, I think I'm going to put one here. an insurance card let me cover the guy's name if he's here yeah here's okay so the insurance card expiration date is 9 18 18 it's 2019 right now at the end okay so this definitely it was insured until about a year ago we have to look under I have to get out of here are those not advancing or am I just enjoying their real nice? I mean they are aftermarket so probably just serviced. 90's ok something no usb no that's not 97 what we don't have anything there something think yeah totally a blue car like that yeah wow this is a cool car it's kinda weird to have a blue 3rd generation Firebird back in the day Great, ok i see these headlights work oh they work dude they both work good man that's t that's awesome there's a little light we're still very low on power but it's revving taillights are on brake lights work it looks kinda cool actually at night this is going to be amazing i have to say we are cleaning this car we are going to wash this car in this video because from the photos i saw there were two photos i found online.
I looked up the Banshee concept. Some people I talked to when I bought this car. We looked at the 1980s Banshee and in the late 1980s Pontiac made a banshee concept out of a Firebird which is a futuristic looking Firebird and it looks like this the front end even the rear specifically looks like it's kind of a recreation of that concept car dude though it had some crazy overhead double cam fancy motor at the time so after i started digging into banshee i found a couple pics on the 3rd gen dot or someone who posted a picture of what appears to be the exact same car and it looks amazing it looks real clean like a show car but no one knew what it was no one had any real info no one knew who owned the car now let me know if you think That that's the exact car I don't see how it couldn't be and hopefully the owner, previous owner. he contacts me this car was donated and then sold at auction so i hope nothing happened to the owner sometimes when you donate something something happens the owner the kids they just donate the car We waited like another 15-20 minutes, we'll see. if this has enough power on its own go ahead and try it give it maybe a couple pumps of gas who knows what's even in this thing i just want to see if it will start all right now oh the fan the fans come on . the engine fan is wired to be on all the time so we have power on the light that comes on there it shows some fuel so let's do what happens oh we took a little lunch break so it's been an hour from the battery charger batch so we should be good to go and pat just pointed out how much longer this is then a factory firebird so check out the front and back pat what do you think they added a couple of feet to this car?
It has to weigh a ton, even if we can open the hatch. head up alright buddy moment of truth here we go alright you know what let's put the bird back on it alright we hook up the bridges on the Trans Am we're not going to turn it on because I want to hear this so we'll see if that gives enough juice Pat does the honors there try again ok ok go ahead it started it's fun that's good it's fun kinda yeah man he's so weak really weak most seemed a little stressed you know yeah oh yeah Doyle wow,Looks great dad says kinda but looks kinda new actually huh yeah?
I took the battery off the turbo Trans Am and put it in the weird red 80's Trans Am I don't know what I'm going to call to this car. to start it if it's going to start so go ahead pet wait wait turn key off. I think there is something wrong with this motor. I like it. It starts very slow. this battery is really good let me know in the comment section guys but that doesn't sound good at all even if it wouldn't start at least it would start faster than that I don't know I mean you I know, I guess in theory, it's me hoping the motors are okay, it could be an accessory that's tied up and slowing it down, so before we jump to conclusions, let's unbelt and see if we can figure it out. which you know its not the alternator so it could be the power steering pump or the water pump hopefully its not the crank actually a little loose wow these are all really loose ok here we go oh hey if it's the power steering pump that's easy that's for sure no it's not the power steering pump please be the water please be the water pump no literally all the accessories are fine mate, we have one choice left.
You know what I was looking for there and the starter looks pretty new the oil was new so I got it honestly that could be because maybe they ran out of oil they locked it up decided to put new oil in it and broke the starter because it was locked ok wait let me collect my thoughts so we could have a bad motor on the Firebird it was listed as not racer and driver but honestly that could be anything from a bad battery to a motor locked. So either way at $1,100 it was a gre I bet it's just a small block Chevy but I'd love to get started on this but let me know in the comments section right now guys let's dig a little.
Do you think these engines crashed because of what you just saw? i think we're gonna take out a couple spark plugs see what we can see see if there's anything on the spark plug i have a little borescope but it's dead it's like a battery operated one so yeah these spark plugs are really hard to get to these headers yeah here we go one theory is if this engine sat for a long time the piston rings can freeze to the cylinder walls i would think that except i saw that safety inspection sticker then i found another one by the way , the insurance card is from this year so I think the car was driven in the last 12 months that's not enough time to freeze the rings but man this plug looks good it actually looks newer so that there is nothing wrong with that.
I'm going to get as many out as I can and then we'll try to get it back on but I really don't want to do it too many more times because if it's the rings you can take the plugs off and spray some penetrating oil in there and you can make it work if it's not Saying engines will last forever after that, but anyway, let's pop out some more spark plugs and see what happened. I was able to get two spark plugs out with these heads. cheats I'm going to have to get a special one I think they also sell a key when you have headers on these little blocks that get in the way of everything but we put out a couple I don't know let's try one more time ok so we can't really remove any of the other spark plugs.
I'll have to get a special tool for that and I think it's time the Firebird moved to this side of the garage so we can. let's put the car on the rack jack it up let's see what we can find under the car see if maybe a torque converter bolt or r two has come loose and it's binding with the flex plate or who knows so let's inspect the car on the shelf and then it should be in the garage anyway because if it needs an engine I'm going to have to order one and replace the engine in the next few weeks so since it's December in Chicago it's barely above freezing right now this is my last chance to wash the car and i hate working on dirty cars so let's wash this to make it look really sweet and then it's going up nice in the rack for a car with a potentially blown engine this It doesn't look bad y'all guys I know it's super weird I mean it literally looks like a movie car to be honest with you so I just can't wait to drive it look I mean imagine you pulling the cars and coffee and this bad boy right here so i know there's going to be some love of course there's going to be some hate but i think she's looking very very cool super retro super weird anyway let's push it into the garage right now pull it up and see what we can find under my car so we good here we are hunters for the weird firebird trans am we got flowmaster mufflers we got a spawning performance panhard rod we got an aftermarket sway bar here out back looks like the stock 10 bolt maybe it's just painted who knows and then we also have an aftermarket torque arm I think it's like a 3 or $400 piece by itself and seems to be in better shape than the one on my white Trans Am so we have an aftermarket crossmember we still have a catalytic converter which is a little weird there is a transmission leak here it has headers on this car it looks like it has We got a bigger front sway bar as well as different sway bar link factory brakes and here's our engine so let's see we have an inspection cover here so maybe we can remove it and just double check the flex plate from the torque converter and then we can probably also see the gears from the starter motor which looks pretty new so let's remove this Alabama That's right we removed the cover so we can see the torque converter right here the flex plate here the teeth They don't look damaged and then I put Pat in the car he's in I'm going to touch the starter for us so we can look at this gear right now and see what's going on with that so go ahead Pat it's okay wow i mean these splines on the starter looking totally crooked that could be because it's so hard to crank the engine. one more time Pat yeah ok that's ok and then it's supposed to retract further back so gosh I think the engine is locked up but our next step is definitely to get the spark plugs out of here so we can try turn this around. by hand I don't want to do it right now with a breaker bar because look at the little bolt there.
I don't want to squash it on the crank if it's a lot of drag so I think our next step is definitely to get the spark plugs out of this auto bore the cylinders and we're going to do that before we may have to drop this crankcase because if it's not nothing with the piston rings, i'm going to take a look at the bearings, which means we'll remove the oil pan here, remove a couple of caps, the main caps and some connecting rod caps and see. what's going on i mean it looks amazing like tell me this isn't a head spin you love it or hate it it's super weird i get it but this is great $1,100 even if you need a small block chevy that seriously isn't great thing I can buy one of these for a few hundred bucks and put it here.
They come out above They are very easy. We'll do it on the grass. It will be fun. this just so i can drive this see the reactions of people worth it to me ok guys i think we'll end there in the next episode we're digging into the engine to see if we can get the weird 3rd generation Firebird started to comment below how i should nickname this car, follow the mascot, he's on instagram, take an awesome photo tures P Morgan Racing on instagram and definitely check out the link below for dot IO car auctions if you liked this video give him a big thumbs up share this one everyone should know about this crazy crazy weird car ipad exactly he's going to be writing some articles on this car too so I hope we find out what it is and I'll definitely update you guys obviously in the next video if the previous owner reaches out or if I learn anything from the comment section from you guys so anyway have a great day I'll catch you guys everyone in the next video
