How to Make your 5.7 R/T as fast as a Scatpack. What does it really take?

May 06, 2020
Guys welcome back it's Racer or Challenger r/t and

what

it

take

s to

make

that car as

fast

as the 6-4 or the scat pack. A lot of guys own RT and just want to know, hey, do you know

what

it

take

s for me to get it? down to the power level and competing with the scat pack yes the RT is not that expensive and you know what my perspective on power is. Can it be done easily? Today you will find out too guys, if you are new to the channel, be sure to press. Sign up down there and we'll go, so right behind me here I have the r/t charger inside that vehicle.

You'll find the naturally aspirated 5.7-liter Hemi engine that

make

s 372 horsepower and around 400 pound-feet of torque. The white car. Actually, here's the Charger package, which is the 6.4-liter naturally aspirated engine and it makes 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque, so as you can see, there's a difference quite substantial in horsepower between these two cars even though they are both naturally. aspirated, so what do you have to do to get the r/t to make the same kind of power and compete with the scat pack? Well, I will tell you that these two engines are

really

smart, we have all five of them here. -seven and then of course here you have the six pack four scat and they look quite different in terms of the shots of these cars because there's a pretty big difference performance wise in terms of how these things actually work, but if you're someone who bought the RT and you're like, Hey, look, you know what I want this to compete with a pack of poop?

More Interesting Facts About,

how to make your 5 7 r t as fast as a scatpack what does it really take...

What is

really

needed? There are a couple of different ways to get there, so really to get this. an extra one hundred and ten horsepower, you could increase it, it's an option on this car, it's kind of similar to the other engine and the 64 and cars don't really like much boost, but yeah, you can buy a supercharger for this and definitely You'll match the amount of power and torque you find in the scat package, but that won't be cheap and think about it, there's a price difference of around $8,000 really depending on the trim level between a scat package and an r/t of you know in the same measure, but you know if you're going to spend $10,000 on a supercharger to make that kind of power, you've got to sign up, you've got to figure out, hey, look, is it really worth the boost and r/t?
how to make your 5 7 r t as fast as a scatpack what does it really take
Maybe you're going to make six and seven pounds of boost safely, and of course you have to do the tuning and all that kind of stuff. It's not a cheap proposition to put a supercharger on one of these, but that's definitely one way to go. do it the other way around is with nitrous. I don't really use nitrous much, yes it's something that can be used on the race track if

your

car is tuned correctly, but I will say that nitrous can be a little volatile and isn't there all the time. and really in the spirit of this video, I'm trying to show you a way to make this car as

fast

as the scat pack all the time, so that the nitrous you put on it is ready and you get back to the RT Power Level, for which we're not going to consider nitrous as one of those things, it's a viable option here, so let's move on to the next thing, what are some things we can do with the RT to maximize the power, obviously keeping it? naturally aspirated and we will reach that magical level of one hundred and ten horsepower.
how to make your 5 7 r t as fast as a scatpack what does it really take
Well we'll start with the front of the car, obviously this particular vehicle has a more restrictive air intake system which means it's a bit bottlenecked, certainly more so than the six four. That's why the intake on this car is more restrictive and the exhaust manifold on this car is more restrictive, so you'll actually get a little more horsepower out of doing those modifications on an RT than you would on a scat pack, so there is something to consider there. So where you can get 70 to 80 horsepower in a scat pack mod for mod on the RT, you're actually going to get more, maybe ninety or a hundred because of those restrictions, so really the first two things I want to talk about you have them

your

air intake system or you have your cold air intake system right here, one of the things you can do is make the Hellcat lower air intake box, so basically you have to remove the front bumper on the charger and the Challenger.
It's actually a little easier but you can do the Hellcat air intake which actually lowers your IITs a bit and plus it's not that expensive of a mod and you can keep your factory airbox like this and really maximize the what that means. It

does

, it's something to consider there, so the next piece of the air intake system, of course, is the throttle body. It's actually a little bit easier to see here on the sixth floor engine, but as we jump up here to the five-seven, I can see that it's hidden under the shield here, but if you replace the throttle body and go with a larger throttle body, that will increase airflow to the engine and you can do it one of two ways, you can do it as a port. throttle body or even bed, but you can go for a true diameter throttle body, which means the butterfly is actually larger and less restrictive, even more so, so that's definitely something to consider, but you should definitely go for because of a larger throttle body and a ported intake so the intake is actually directly below here, it's a little bit easier to see on the six-four.
You can see the air intake here, my good friend Rob, you actually saw his car in the last video and it has a ported intake that's actually been massaged and stuff. It flows very, very well, but these intakes can be quite restrictive, especially on the RT, so you should replace the intake manifold on top of the engine, another option to make your car not necessarily more powerful, but yes. A little faster on the track is putting a converter in the car, so believe it or not, these two cars actually have the same transmission, it's the 70 HP, so from a standby perspective, you should be in pretty good shape. good shape. what comes on the RT, but the converters will help you get out of the hole and help make those throws more successful and hopefully lower your 60 feet to where you'll actually be more competitive with a scat package, so That's something to consider, okay.
So now we get into the engine itself, so the next thing I really want to talk about and really the biggest power adder of all is the camshaft, so they have a lot of different routines out there, I don't necessarily have I have to go with a giant super low P tube, like you saw on my good friend Rob's car. He has a camera that

does

n't really make much noise but has great power. They have some really cool cams that you can put on these cars that will really make good power and keep that really nice street ability for you, but you're not going to reach this level of catback power unless you put a cam on the car if you're going to maintain it. of natural form. aspirated, so hopefully something that has a really nice linear curve, something that revs along the entire power line, and something that keeps your car nice and drivable, and you could get a good solid, maybe 30 horsepower doing his camera and stuff.
I'll take a big chunk of that power for you now as we work back on the car, obviously, we talked about the front of the engine. Now I want to talk about everything that comes out of the engine, essentially, so really. We started with a fairly restrictive exhaust system. Their exhaust manifold on these cars is not the best so by making long pipe headers you will get a good amount of power, of course we know there is a tune that comes with that. We'll talk about this in a moment, but if you go with long tube headers, get some high-flow catalytic converters that will help the air flow out the back a little more smoothly, and of course, go for a catback exhaust, something which flows pretty freely, that's not very restrictive but guys keep in mind you're not going to get a ton of horsepower out of a catback exhaust, regardless of what the manufacturers say you're going to get a little bit but in terms of the difference between one, know a course or a Borla or stainless steel jobs or whatever, the gains are negligible in terms of the difference between them, so I'll pick a sound you like, get yourself a catback exhaust, throw it in there and go the city, but really everything. from the engine to the back, go ahead and replace it because you need something that will actually flow the air well, lastly and most importantly is the tune.
Yes, you will need a melody and really the melody has to encompass all the different mods that you have. Obviously I've done it with the long tubes and you get the tube and everything works together, that's what makes that package magical and yes you should be able to achieve a power level pretty close to that power level of the scat package, such maybe maybe not quite but you will be very close and the car will run like a champ but the key is to get the tune right on the car and my recommendation would be to go for an e85 tune if you have 85 available to be able to do so. a 93 isn't going to hurt anything, the 85 will give you a little more power and keep your car a little more consistent in my opinion, but you have to use bigger injectors when you go up to the 85, so I know you will.
You probably need to at least use a 600cc injector on these just to get everything flowing properly, but guys, it's all about the tuning on these cars, so all those other mods work together, they don't have the right tuning. It's still not going to run well, but if you get a fantastic tune up and I'm talking about tuning the PCM and TCM transmission, your car should be very competitive with all the other mods we've talked about with the stock scat package, so I'm sure the big question is: Racer X, how much does all that crap cost to make my car as fast as the r/t scat pack?
Well, truth be told, it will probably cost you between nine and ten thousand. dollars for all the things we've talked about with the right fit, the right injectors, you know, the camshaft and the lifters and all the other things that come in that package, nine to ten thousand dollars is my best estimate. in terms of making the power to get a poop pack and as we mentioned earlier the cut out poop pack to trim costs about eight nine thousand dollars more than the arty so it's an interesting conundrum so it really all comes together It comes down to whether you can afford scat package right out of the box, it might be a little better to stick with that because then you start modifying that thing and maybe the profits won't be as much per mod, but still, I still know a little faster if you start modifying that car, however there are a lot of guys who own and girls who own art and just want their car to be competitive or more fun and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that so feel free. to go ahead and tweak those things, have fun with it, like I said, I don't necessarily recommend pushing it, but it can be done and it can be effective if adjusted the right way, don't go crazy with it. but they can still be a lot of fun so there's something to consider, well guys that's my assessment on how to make an r/t as fast as a scat pack so hopefully I can at least spread the word a little.
A little bit of knowledge maybe helps some people make some decisions if they're thinking about modifying their RT and I understand the extent to which they want to do that and at the end of the day, hopefully, you know, spread a little bit of knowledge. I hope you enjoyed the video. I'll see you in the next one until then, runner x.
