when

meeting new clients and that is the

feeling

of being

overwhelmed

by clutter. I'd like to ask you a couple of questions... are you avoiding an area of your house because every time you walk in it's completely overwhelming or have you gone looking for something and can't find it? Worse yet, have you bought something that you know you have but because you can't locate it you need it and spend money on that item again?

overwhelmed

. These marketers spend billions of dollars to encourage and entice you to buy the things you think you need! And once you get them home, you don't always have a place for them, so they just settle into the first open spot you get. It's okay to feel overwhelmed, it's very normal and I want you to know that. The second thing I want to say is that if you're ready to tackle an area, set your timer!

More Interesting Facts About,

how to declutter when you re feeling overwhelmed...

I'm a broken record on this, but it's much easier to tackle something if you've already committed to a certain amount of time. It gives your brain the knowledge that I just have to do this for X amount of time and that's it! So set the timer for 15, 30 minutes and go for it! Once you've set the timer, start small. I always start organizing by choosing categories... so

when

you get into that area that's really making you feel overwhelmed, pick a small category. Whether it's junk mail, empty boxes, old electronics, photos, etc., keep scanning that area and looking for that one thing.

It helps you stay focused and once that whole category you've found is isolated, it's much easier to make decisions about what to keep and what to get rid of. So as you move forward in this area and you start to break down your categories, one of the things that I know you're going to come across is gifts and what I mean about the gifts that you receive is how many gifts do you remember giving to people? Do you remember every thing you have bought from someone? I guess your answer is no! And that brings me to 'it's okay to get rid of the things that have been given to you'!

Many times, the person who is giving you items really just wants that gesture, they want you to know that they thought of you on this special occasion, that they care about you, and in doing so, they may have given you something that the thought was wonderful. , but the article. It wasn't exactly a success, so acknowledge the gesture and give that item to someone who can find better value for it. It's okay to give gifts that you have received and that you don't like. It's hard, but I want you to do it. Think about that

feeling

of being overwhelmed right now as you look at things you're saving for the future generation if you're holding onto your grandmother's China and feeling overwhelmed by it but don't want to part with it.
In case your niece or grandson wants it, ask them a quick question right now and if they're already teenagers and don't show any interest in it, let it go, it's pretty easy to replace patterns these days, but if you're planning on giving away boxes and boxes of items from your great-aunt or great-grandmother, in reality all you are doing is passing on the stress and feeling of overwhelm to the next generation, keep that in mind as parents, if you are going to keep all this paperwork for your children and that's it Thinking, Oh my God, what am I going to do with all this?
That is the feeling you are transmitting to your children. Pick some of your favorites, make digital copies and that way it's not so complicated. an overwhelming amount for future generations to get, they might still look at the digital copy and say, "wow, that was really cool" and if it's a really unique diorama they made and you have room for it, go ahead and save it, but that's fine Don't put every item away, this is my best advice and probably the hardest for most of you to do, but if you have an overwhelming garage storage office, commit to not buying new things until that room is finished and This is why if you're already struggling with where to put the items you have and you're adding new items and buying new things, you're making it even more complicated and they overwhelm your stealth, so what I recommend is that once you have that area completely organized and If you have a home for everything, then you can go ahead and resume shopping, but I suggest that you go in with the rule and that the number of new items you bring is equal or more should come out, so if you buy three new clothes, then before You put it in your closet, three items of clothing should go, this keeps the balance and prevents you from feeling overwhelmed and cluttered again, so as you go through your items, you might come across things that work, oh, I might need this someday or OMG, what if I regret getting rid of this later?
Here's my answer, if it's an easily replaced item, don't worry, get rid of it if you decide, oh man, I could have used those scrapbooking supplies, it's so. easy to replace those things now let it go, don't take up that space if it's something that's harder to get again and you're not sure. I suggest you make a time capsule, get a container and place that item with a sticky note. or put a piece of paper on it with a date if it's a seasonal item, give it a year if it's just a miscellaneous item, set a date six months to two years away at most, and when that date arrives if you have.
If I didn't use that item, it's more evidence to go ahead and get rid of it. My last advice to you is to be realistic. I know it's so easy to watch these shows on TV and go online and see all these wonderful organizing groups and Pinterest is a wealth of amazing photography. You know, I have my office back here and it looks wonderful, but if I showed you the rest of my area in this garage, you would see what real life is like and I'll show you a picture. Also, take a break, we live in our homes, we have active lives and we have other people in our families who contribute to our daily habit, so take a break, not everything can be perfect all the time, but work on the environment.
