I really wanted one so I decided to look around the house and decide what I could use to trick him and this is what I came up with. This is actually the DIY I did before I started YouTube where my family encouraged me to start filming what I do and upload it so other people could have nice home decor on a budget and anyway , I decided to go back to Dollar Tree now and see what I could do with this and as always, I hope you enjoy it. the show and if you haven't subscribed to my channel yet, I'd love for you to click that button for this project.

you can go ahead and find this pattern online and cut it out using thick cardboard. Then you'll need a box, but you don't actually have to buy a box from Dollar Tree that I made and cut up. like I was showing you there and I'm just going to glue it in the middle, but you can certainly take craft sticks. I have lots of videos on how to

I'll leave the links below Below in my description box, but I had the boxes right in front of me when I grabbed these trucks from Dollar Tree, so I decided: you know, I'm going to do that for the purpose of this tutorial and the next thing you're going to do It's taking some thick cardboard and cutting it to the width and shape like you see I do here for the front of this truck, so I took that and rolled it around a round object like I think mine was actually a thick marker. which I used and I just rolled it to shape it a little bit and then after you glue it on you can take a knife, a craft knife, whatever you need to do, just to trim it out and

sure it's nice and it's even very important here for the realism, it's really important. that you take your time and make everything nice and even so I'm just in the process of measuring and cutting I decided on this truck so that it looked a little more high-end I was going to put a front part like this on the top, like this which I'm just pasting it below.

I decided that the craft stick on the front was a little too tall, so I cut a craft stick in half or a little less than half and am using that to glue it on. On the front, I'm using these napkins from Dollar Tree and a little bit of Mod Podge and I'm mixing a little bit of water with my Mod Podge just a little bit to make it a little bit more watery, don't you want that too. watery, but you don't want it thick and sticky either, try to get it where it's nice and fluid and easy to work with because we're going to stick all these little tissue papers all over the cardboard part, so this is kind of like paper mache, you're going I went ahead and glued all the tissue paper over all the cardboard pieces so they would come together again and look more cohesive.

As I was working with this I realized we had to have a front bumper so I went ahead and cut out some more cardboard and put it on with a little glue. You would want to do this right away with that piece of cardboard. I guess at the time I thought it wouldn't bend enough, but actually, if you curl the cardboard. enough and smooth it out and you know, make it flexible, you can absolutely push it down into that little slot area there and it will be easier to keep the whole piece as one piece instead of having two separate ones, but if you don't you won't. whatever you do if you want to do it like I did, it works fine too and this is what it should look like when you're done, we're just going to set this aside to let it dry, this is the next day. and it's dry and I didn't have putty on hand when I was filming this, so I substituted some putty with acrylic craft paint.
You can use joint compound. You can use wood filler. You can even use speckled. And you can certainly use. the caulking, everything works for this part. The purpose of what I'm doing now is to simply cover the entire paper mache part so it's a little more uniform. We're starting the process of leveling the surface here. so after it was dry I went ahead and used putty and mixed it with a little bit of water, sometimes a little bit of paint, either works just to make it a little bit more fluid and less dry so it doesn't dry out. crumble, watch it crumble inside the cube, it's very hard to work with when you're trying to make a craft, so you want to get the consistency of a frosting which makes it a lot easier for this craft, it sure makes it a lot easier, As you can see, I'm using a craft stick to place it and I'm dipping my brush in a little bit of water and I'm smoothing out the surface.
Now my goal was to make this truck look. I like a wooden one, so it was totally fine for me to have some wood grain. That was actually desirable, if you don't want it to look like that you would just have to work it in a little bit more with a little bit of water, so that's the The next day after it dried, I made a small mistake. I show you how I filled it in real quick, let it dry and then I take a nail file and start gently sanding away the areas that are too high.
You know, now just trying to even it out, but here's the biggest one and this is what adds a lot of realism when you're filing, you want to go around your tires like this because it's going to give the truck a groove right there and that's going to create a Look at it. 3D around your tire and it's going to look really amazing when you're done, just trust me, so if you want to go over your tire a little bit, it's kind of inevitable, but look at that groove right there. to show you in more detail, that's really what you want on all four tires because, again, it just adds more realism, so I'm showing you here how I'm gently going over the lines that I'm really looking for. anyone and gentle gentle is the key word.
I'm really targeting any areas that have too many lumps. I'm just trying to make everything look nice and smooth like a piece of wood. I used a baby wipe, but you could certainly use a wet one. paper towel for this or a damp tissue, you're just wiping off the excess dust from the sanding and now I'm giving it a coat of acrylic paint, you can use acrylic paint, you can use chalk paint, you can use latex paint, any white paint what you wish. I can even use primer, any white paint will work and if you don't want a white truck you can make it red, if you want you can make it brown and you can make it whatever color truck you want.
I wanted mine to be white, I thought. It would be a little easier with all seasons and now I'm going to take the Apple Barrel pink color called Territorial Beige and I'm just applying a quick dry brush over the truck, this will completely hide any imperfections that I couldn't remove by lightly filing and sanding and it's also going to make it look more like wood, so you'll see I go ahead and do a coat of territorial beige and then after that dries, I'm going to go over it with white paint, tone it down a little bit more again so that everything come together a little more cohesive to make it look like a truck and I paint a coat of my white dry brush paint over the territorial beige and then I go in. there with territorial beige again and I make sure to hit the parts that are important and accentuate them like the window edge, the edge of the hood and definitely look at this guys, around the edge of that tire, so you're going to paint.
These tires are black so don't worry at all about getting brown paint on the tires, it's no big deal, you need that realism with the shadow because these are the areas where a truck is driving through the countryside or a farmer, you recognize yourself if you see this. With cars on the road in a city, they tend to get dirty in those areas. Next I'm just applying the old wax with a baby wipe to the back where the truck is supposed to be wooden, this is something I've always wanted. Do what you saw, I made one for free with junk I always wanted to take and see what I could do with the Dollar Tree trucks.
I've seen them with craft sticks all over the top and stuff, and it just didn't quite hit the mark for me, they were cute, but I really wanted it to look like a truck. I think I scored on this one. It looks very cute in real life. Let me know what you think. That's why I said it's not important if you turn brown. there because you are going to paint it black, but here are the wood slices, if you can't find them at your Dollar Tree for your tires, here what would look totally cute is to just get out of good mother nature, find a branch and cut it very fine and you can also use it in the center to give a nice rustic touch to the truck and here is my free Humble Farmhouse printable today guys and you can find that down below in my description box.
I apply it with a glue stick and seal this outside with this Mod Podge Matte Clear Acrylic Sealer. Now any clear varnish will work. You can get the

cheap

est one you can find at Home Depot or Lowe's. This is what I'm using and I just prefer it at the time and then I bring it in the next day and I start putting flowers on the back and I think it turned out so pretty.
