Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Durability Test - What is 'Victus' Glass?

May 31, 2021
Samsung releases a lot of new phones and they do it very quickly. This new Galaxy Note 20

ultra

5g is their most expensive high-end flagship yet for 2020. It's one of those phones where we all pay more for the 5g, but only 5 people can use it inside the box. We get a cool rubber protective case. This is the mystical black version and comes with the regular USB headphone cable and a 25 watt wall charger, which stands out the most to me. Is this camera shot? The cameras are proprietary to this phone. It's like a complete domino glued to the back and is almost as thick as Lego.

It's pretty incredible. Anyway, I heard Samsung is using new

glass

this time around Gorilla Glass Victus, so it should. be interesting, let's start one of the reasons why I am interested in this

galaxy

note

20

ultra

is because it is the newer version of the phone that I am currently using, the

galaxy

note

10 plus and with its almost identical footprint and specifications, it is time to decide if it's worth upgrading for me or not, for reference. Currently, my previous Note 10 plus can be found on eBay in the 700 range and the new Note 20 ultra costs thirteen hundred dollars, so if you ever want to save tons of money. buying last year's model is always an option, let's talk about

glass

, so Corning just released the new glass and they went from using numbers to calling this glass

victus

, which means to live.

More Interesting Facts About,

Samsung was nice enough to protect the Victus glass with a free screen. protector but once we remove it we can start with the actual scratch

test

. My more mineral picks can differentiate between different materials. You know, if the screen was plastic, it would start scratching at range two or three. If it were glass, it would start to scratch. range five or six and if the screen was made of sapphire, which we haven't seen in a long time, the screen would start to scratch at a level eight or nine. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is still glass and scratches at a level six with greater depth.

Slots at a level seven, you might be thinking, but jerry,

what

does Corning mean when they say Victus is four times more scratch resistant than regular glass and that's a big question when Corning uses these talking points. They are not comparing Victis to the previous ones. Gorilla versions are comparing the victims to normal glass and in fact it is much stronger than normal glass but it is still glass. You know, we have the hardness realms of plastic glass and sapphire. The glass kingdom is here in the middle at five, six or seven. The incremental improvements that Gorilla Glass has made have been made within this realm of glass and my Mohs hardness selections are too generalized to differentiate.

The Mohs mineral

test

is a rough scale designed to find the difference between many materials such as plastic to sapphire, but without checking the tiny subtle differences between different types of glass, a machine capable of specifically analyzing that section of information would cost in the hundred thousand dollar range and maybe one day I can get one, but Victus is an improvement in the glass realm. Glass is still glass and I will always use a case. The S Pen still has removable tips so you can switch between soft and hard depending on your writing style. The S Pen although I don't actually use mine.
All of that often remains one of my favorite pieces of technology. By removing the back half of the pin we can see the brains of the operation along with the capacitor at the end which can charge in a matter of seconds and provide enough power for the pin to last 30 minutes out of the phone the capacitors are much cooler than the batteries above the capacitor is just the part of the pin that clicks, but the writing tip of the pen is where things start to get fun there are lots of copper windings around the tip, this generates a magnetic field so the phone knows where it is the pin tip even without touching the capacitive screen.
There's a pressure sensor inside the tip, of course, for when it's touched, but apparently it's meant to be as such. piece or something to keep it running, but you understand it gets even cooler when we look inside the phone, there is a super small wireless charger resting on top of the s pen slot which you can see here on my torn skin and that little wireless pad is

what

charges the s pen through the coils in the tip while it's inside the phone. Quite impressive, the note 20 ultra has a circular 10-megapixel front camera with roughly the same placement as last year's model, as well as the almost non-existent earpiece grille, just a small indentation here on the top, body of the phone.
It's made of aluminum, you can see the silver peeking out from under the mystical black and the buttons are also made of metal and for some reason they are still fully removable. The top of the phone has a transparent protective plastic along with the micro SD and SIM card expansion tray and there is no headphone jack. The left side of the phone is still bare, there's no dedicated Bixby button again. I'm glad the change is lasting. The bottom of the phone has more temporal. Clear protective plastic and metal next to the USB-C port, the back of the Note 20 Ultra is made of glass, but Samsung's regular Note 20 is rumored to be made of plastic this year, let me know in the comments if you want that try it. phone where I'm starting to get a little tempted are the cameras: the note 20 ultra has a built-in 12 megapixel periscope camera five times while mine only has it twice and then there's the main 108 megapixel 8k camera where mine only it's 12 megapixels and 4k, then we have the 12 megapixel ultrawide camera, which goes up to 16.
There are some pretty big changes this year camera-wise, but it's probably still not worth my thirteen hundred dollars, especially since my own phone is still it works pretty well and maybe if you wait a bit they'll find a way to minimize that camera bump. The only way to make this camera bump cool is to show what's really inside. I will place the torn skin over the top of the camera platform and remove the rest. The phone has been covered and now we can see exactly how big the sensors are and how much space the periscope zoom camera takes up under the hump.
It's somewhat similar to last year's design, except the stylus is on the other side. I'll leave a link to my teardown in the description. It is now available for most popular phones, tablets and even laptops. The screen has improved a bit this time even though it has the same resolution, it has grown by 0.1 inches and also has the ability to upgrade to 120 hertz is also a tiny bit tempting, but avoiding 1300 hertz on my wallet is more important than needing hertz for my eyes. After about 23 seconds the screen started to go black which is normally something we only see on LCD screens which this type doesn't do.
It doesn't recover and remains burnt pretty interesting for an Amoled and just another excellent example of why we really have no idea why the burn test exists. The fingerprint scanner test is useful, although Samsung is once again using the ultrasonic fingerprint reader. You can see that it doesn't. Using the light from the screen to illuminate my finger, I'm just using those ultrasonic waves through the glass to capture the ridges of my fingerprints. I'll add some deeper level 7 grooves to damage things and try again and it still works every time, not bad at all. I will remove this magical structure-enhancing skin.
It's a joke on the structural part, but it's magical. The Note 20 Ultra weighs 4 grams more than my Note 10 Plus and, like last year, it's as solid as a rock - there's no flex in the frame. there is no damage to the glass or the phone itself I would say I'm impressed but it costs thirteen hundred dollars so it better be durable and no one should be surprised that it is rather than buying an ultra phone and having a ultra slim wallet. I'll stick with my regular phone and keep my wallet where it is, talk about keeping your wallet where it is.
I'm giving away these all you have to do stickers for free, all you have to do to get one is send it to me. mail a regular old letter to the address you see on the screen and I'll send you one of these large stickers for free. Just make sure your return address is legible so you know where to send it, and feel free to send it to me. a decal of your own if you want, I'll add it to the decal wall in my garage with Trump and a joy doing everything they can to stop the mail.
It may take a little longer to receive your decal, but we can help. stick with them being pen pals, the address is on the screen and I'll even ship them internationally for free, so feel free to write me a letter no matter where you're from. It feels good to have my phone close at hand. While it's no longer necessary to replace something that isn't broken, I'll be taking the Note 20 Ultra apart to see how ideas compare to the outside, so hit the subscribe button if you haven't already and come hang out with me on Instagram and twitter thanks fool for watching, see you around
