DOLLAR TREE DIY | BUFFALO CHECK BUNNIES & BURLAP FARMHOUSE SPRING AND LENT DECOR

Feb 27, 2020
Hello everyone, welcome back to White Sparrow Living Luke 12 Six, it's windy today, we're doing three Dollar Tree DIYs for

spring

and one of them is also for Lent, so to start with the first one we'll use. one of these plastic watering cans, some greenery and assorted flowers and just a bundle of joy, some wavy white chalk paint and Apple Barrel black acrylic paint, some black and white

buffalo

plaid ribbon and this thing I bought at Hobby Lobby for $5, some floral foam and these are just scraps that I had, I'm going to use my Silhouette Cameo three and some black vinyl, some transfer tape, my squeegee and weeding tools, and if not you have this, okay, you can use a black paint pen for what we're going to do. be writing and then my glue gun, scissors, wire cutters, a chenille stem and my ruler, so the first thing we're going to do is paint our watering can white and I really wasn't in love with the shape of this watering can, but That's how it was.

Everything Dollar Tree had turns out that if you paint something white, it automatically becomes beautiful for some reason, so then I ended up loving the shape of this can and all I did was give it two coats of Waverly white chalk paint and score. For everyone, if you want to avoid cracks, make sure your coats are completely dry before moving on to the second coat. Once my paint is completely dry, I'm going to reapply it with a foam makeup sponge and I'm going to take some black paint and just go around the edges of my watering can and let the foam brush is not a brush, it's a sponge, but let it do all the work for you.

I want this to look like a vintage enamel piece so I'll give it a little ding from time to time so it's not a perfectly straight line and in real life vintage enamel where you'll see cracks from time to time that show the black. under the white, so I just take my foam sponge and make little areas that look like cracks after the black paint dried. I measured to see how big I wanted to make my decal and it came out four inches wide by five inches tall so I'm going to use the font called skinny so I cut it out of black vinyl from my Silhouette Cameo three and then removed it and I put my transfer paper on top and then put it in my watering can.

Now this is where you can totally use your own handwriting and make those long letters that are Ray Dunn style where the top of the letters are a little bit closer to the top instead of being in the middle. Now I'm going to take my floral foam and just pop them. pieces in the bottom of the watering can and then I'm going to take just a bunch of different pink flowers and I'm going to put them in the watering can and in the floral foam to remove the labels if you just remove the flower and then throw I lifted the label and put the flower, that's easier than trying to cut them, so I could have cut them all separate from their stems and placed them individually, but instead I just intertwined them after putting the whole branch in the foam and then moved them around until it looked like I I liked it and then to cover the hole at the top of the handle, I'm going to make a loop with the black and white

buffalo

plaid ribbon, so the way to do that is to fold the ribbon over and I made three loops on each side and then I'm going to fold it in half so the loops are the same size on both sides and then I'm going to cut little notches in the ends of both sides and then using my chenille stem I'm going to flatten it in the middle and then I'm going to wrap it around and I'm going to turn it back and then once I'm sure I'm going to separate the loops and do one on the right, one on the left and then one more or less in the center and then I do the same on the other side, then I'm going to take my tails and I'm going to fold that fabric in half and then cut it diagonally on both sides, then I'm going to take the excess chenille stem and wrap it around the top of the bucket handle and if you don't have a chenille stem white, you can always hot glue it on.

So here it is all done. I am absolutely in love with this. I love how stretchy and pretty it is. I will list the different flowers I used in this bouquet in the description box below so that if you want to recreate it. you can get the exact flowers and if you don't have a personal cutter I will have this decal available in my Etsy store but you should try using your own handwriting now as some people may not like the black and white buffalo

spring

, but I'm an 80s girl so black and pink has always been one of my favorite combinations, but for you, if it's not your style, you can change it up and make it your own by using any color of ribbon you works for you and your

decor

for our next project we are going to use this bamboo breath and I had never seen this before at Dollar Tree but I didn't really like it but then I thought of something I could use it for, we are also going to use some branches in bloom, three of these incense stick holders, a wooden cross that has the galvanized metal behind it and is on a little stand, a regular

burlap

ribbon, a purple ribbon and I think this is from Walmart, my friend got it for me gave, so I'm not one hundred percent sure they have a purple ribbon at Dollar Tree, but I couldn't find the one I had and as soon as I finished filming I found it of course, so the first thing we're going to do is a job on these incense holders and what I did was I took my knife and it's super sharp because it was a new blade and I just scored it at an angle from top to bottom and then I took my wire cutters and I used the pliers part to pry it apart.
I want this to have a pointed edge at the bottom and then make it wider at the top. Now I'm making this look easier because I'm editing the time it took to do it. this, but first you have to be very careful because of the blade and go over the same marked line several times before it breaks, so now I'm going to prepare my crown and place my flower. branches to the bottom corner and I only had three of these branches because I used one in the DIY I did with the three crosses and I thought the branches looked a little thorny and sharp so it reminded me of the crown of thorns.
Since I only had three I split one of them in half so that my sides were equal or fairly equal because there are only five stems on each of the branches so I just rounded them and made them semi-circular so they would go together with the wreath itself and then I'm going to take my paddle wire and attach them to the wreath leaving a little separate area in the middle because that's where our bows are going to go so now I'm going to use the same folding method that I used with my other bow, but this time I'm going to make four loops on each side because it's kind of a sheer fabric and it's also going to go under a smaller

burlap

bow that we used. we are going to do but we are using purple because that represents fluff and that is the season we are going to enter today and this is the time when we reflect on what is about to happen at Easter and with passion and everything purple is the color liturgical for fluff so for our burlap bow I'm showing you another way you can do it and this is where you just wrap it over itself on the front and the back and just move it back and forth.
I made three loops on each side again and then I'll fold it in half and do the same movements I did with the other loop. This is just another way to do it. This especially helps if you have a single-sided tape that has a pattern on one. side and not the other, so if you don't want the back to show on your bun, you can use this method and it won't show, so now I'm going to take my nails and place them on the top right. corner of the wreath, well it's not a corner because it's a circle but you get the idea, I just took my hot glue and placed the largest one on the bottom and then the medium sized one next to it and then the smallest one on the top.
They were nails, well her nails are fine, so now I'm going to take my burlap bow and I'm going to put it on top of the purple one and then I'm going to put some of the loops through the burlap one so you can see more of the purple than I can. I took my small cross and using a very small Phillips screwdriver I removed the screws from the back of the cross and separated it from the galvanized metal and I really liked what it said seek courage and strength through it so I didn't want to cover the letters , but I wanted to make the cross a little lighter so it would show up better on top of the nails, so I took my makeup sponge and some white chalk paint, went around the edges and then took a brush and bleached the front to so you could still see the words but occasionally it was a lighter wood, once it was completely dry I hot glued it to the top of my three nails and that was it and here it is.
It's all finished and I love how it turned out, since all the things land. I really wanted to do something specifically for Lent and I think this really captures this mood of the season and I just realized I forgot to show you how I painted. nails with brown acrylic paint. I don't know where those pictures went, but all I did was take a paintbrush and go over the raw edges, so for our final project we're going to need two of these welcome all the

bunnies

signs, one pack. of these terracotta pots two skewers some white roses and I'm not good with plants or flowers but they're definitely not carnations some floral foam two bunches of Easter onion grass some pretty matching paper this is actually from a company called dots I don't even know if they still exist, but something that's pretty, some white chalk paint and celery chalk paint, any kind of green moss, a sanding block and a piece of paper sandpaper.
I didn't have any so I used my rotary sandpaper, some Mod Podge and then my glue gun, scissors and wire cutters so the first thing I did was paint my terra cotta pots with Waverly white chalk paint and The coverage was incredibly good because it only took one coat to get full coverage, which is funny because I want to mess them up and I didn't even want to have a solid paint job, but that's how it turned out. I think it might have been because it was a very porous surface and then it dried almost instantly, so it was crazy at any time.
I'm painting pots or vases or something. I like to go in and go down at least a quarter or half of the way just in case you ever see the inside. Now I'm going to take my sign and I'm just going to I'll be using the bunny cutout for this project so you just want to remove the staples from the back and I'm going to sand it down to get a nice flat surface and for my second bunny I'm going to be Recycling it from a project I did last year before I even started my YouTube channel, so it's cute as it is, but we're going to make it even cuter for this year, so I'll save a paper plate and just serve some by Mod Podge. right to my bunny and I spread it with a foam makeup brush and then I'll take one of the pattern papers and I'll put it on top of it and I'll push it down with my hand and try to get as many bubbles on it as possible.
I took out as much as I could, but if there's any, that's fine, but I just made a slit where the edges of the wood were so I can then, once it's dry, go back and trim it out. You have to be careful and make sure it hits all the edges of the piece of wood so the paper sticks securely, so once the modpodge was dry I cut out my

bunnies

and I don't know where I'll put them but sometimes there might be a chance that you can see it from the back, so I'm going to go ahead and take my celery chalk paint and paint the entire back of the bunnies and then I'm also going to paint my skewers that they're going to be glued to. , so now that the paint is completely dry, I'm going to go in with my small scissors and cut around the entire bunny and in the areas where it's very small, this will all be sanded, so I'll come back for them later and just cut around First the larger areas, now I'm going to take my sanding block and moving away from the edges, I'm going to sand the larger parts where it's easy to reach and then I'm going to go back in with my sandpaper and fold.
I lifted it up so I could get into those little nooks and crannies, so now, back to my pots, I took my celery paint and, with a very light hand and a fairly dry brush, I'm going to dry that paint with a brush on the pot and then wipe it down so you get a very subtle patina looking finish and then I'll let the pots go bad and to do that just put a little bit of water on a rag or some kind of rag and then start rubbing it off. here and there, especially around the raised edges and the edges and at the bottom, and that will allow some of that terracotta to show through and give it a worn look, so now to build these I just put on some hot glue and added my floral foam. and I only used leftover pieces.
I always have this lying around, so if you can avoid buying another piece, that's always good, so now I'm going to take my onion grass and I'm not going to use the eggs, but I'm going to separate each one of them.these stems and there's a little bit that's like an end cap that comes on the top of the stem, so you just want to remove them and then take the little stems off the stem and so seven stems or seven stems come in a package, so the I'm going to separate and glue them all outside and around the floral foam, then I'm going to take some moss and then I'm going to put it in some hot glue and I just took a big handful and I put it in there and then I want the front of this pot to have grass lower than the back, so what I did was just cut some pieces of grass and then take the scraps I had cut. and I put them in with them.
I didn't like the way they were finished. I cut them diagonally, but I thought it was a little blunt, so I went back and cut the entire blade of grass to make them thinner. and thinner and looked more realistic so I went in with my hot glue and took my wooden skewers and glued the bunnies to each of them and then decided which one I wanted on the top and which one I wanted on the bottom so that one would be more taller than the other one, so once I realized that, I broke my skewer to the height I wanted and nailed it too.
Now I'm going to take some of my roses and I just cut a short little piece about three or four inches and I took three of them and put them on the base of the skewer and sometimes you'll find that these flowers have little sewing holes in the petals, so to get rid of that, instead of changing the whole flower, I just took your scissors and cut it out, then took a couple of cotton balls and rolled them in the palms of my hands so they would be tighter and more little ones, I took some hot glue and glued them to their buns and then they were done and here they are. everything ready and I'm in love with them.
I think they turned out so cute. I love the patterns on these papers and the softness of the green and the sanding on the edges. I think it puts it above cuteness in a Not a boastful way, of course, so I hope you like them. Although it took a little time, it was an easy project to make, but I think they turned out adorable. I hope you enjoyed these projects and if you did, I would. I'd love for you to give the comment a thumbs up and let me know what you think.
