May 30, 2021parts of your body. Look at that, you can actually see the colors running through her body, wow! Are you just trying to
bite
me there? - I think I was thinking about it. Show me your trunk. - Oh! - Oh! - Yi! - It bit you? -She caught me! (Laughing)-I got it. -She caught me, I felt it, it was a little pinch. -Let me see, where did she get you from? - Right there, right in the center of my finger. It was like a little prick, ah. (laughing) - Does it hurt? - Yes, a little, but a little, it actually stings me.Yes, did you see that? Do you think you understood it? - Oh, I know I have it. - Oh man. He just turned around and caught me. Well, okay, the bloodworm successfully bit me. It's definitely not as bad as a bee sting, although, you know, it was significantly bigger and may have hurt more, but oh, it stings a little. - Like a small mosquito
bite
? -Yes, he surprised me more than anything, but I can definitely feel it. Haha, my heart is racing. (laughs) I even saw them jump back. - You're not touching the uh... - No, no, no, I mean it didn't really hurt, but it was a sting that definitely shot me back. That was fun. - Hello Coyote? - Yeah? - Are you OK? - I'm fine man, yes. (laughs) - Well, it was definitely one every wet and very muddy afternoon, but we finally found a bunch of
bloodworms
. I'm Coyote Peterson, be brave, stay wild, see you on the next adventure. Ready to return them to the ocean? - Let's do it. - Are you sure you don't want to be bitten? - Hey, I'm fine - Okay. (laughs) - At the beginning of this episode, I honestly had no idea what to expect when it came to digging in the mud for worms. But this is what I learned. Firstly, it is incredibly difficult not only to walk on the mudflats, but also to dig in the wet, heavy mud. Second, it's shady, in case that wasn't completely obvious. And third, it's actually a lot of fun. Like searching for a needle in a pile of hay or, in this case, a bloodworm in a mud flat. There we go, that's a pretty good sized one. - Nice. - I would say as big as the one we found today. Alright guys, it's time to let the
bloodworms
and sandworms back into the ocean. Now you can release these creatures, absolutely anywhere,
they
live along the coast, so that's not exactly where I found them, but it doesn't matter becausethey
are constantly moving, they are nomadic. Always looking for something new to eat. Maine's bloodworm industry continues to flourish, and it's responsible, conservation-conscious diggers like Anthony who are helping keep the population of these strange-looking animals growing. By taking only market-sized worms and returning females and juveniles to the plains, their harvesting methodswill
ensure an abundant population for generations to come. If you thought digging for bloodworms was a muddy mess, be sure to go back and watch the episode where I got covered in mud diving to catch a smoky jungle frog, man, look at all that mud.And don't forget, subscribe! So you can join me and the crew on our next big adventure.
