Battle of the Best Selling Cars - 2020 Honda Civic vs Toyota Corolla

Feb 27, 2020
at URI Jacob we go from point A to point B

2020

Toyota Corolla They are practically our recommendation when someone says what I should buy. I really don't mind driving around in a 10 year old Civic or Corolla or maybe a new one and if you have a little extra money and not that I care about horsepower and torque, the Civic has 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque from a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and the Corolla has 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque from a naturally aspirated 2-liter engine. 4 cylinders and by the way, both are CVTs of our favorites, but what we really need to know is which one is faster.

Sibley has a little more power, not a lot, but I feel like the Corolla goes into false gear a little quicker. Yes, these have fake gears, they're CVT, so they simulate fake gears and we both have paddles to simulate those fake gears, but if you pull it off the line the Civic wins every time by a bunch, yeah, and with only 5 horsepower more strength. It really is really impressive, so the turbo makes a difference, but does it make enough of a difference to buy this car for the speed? It really depends on how much you like the handling and the horsepower and all that kind of stuff, but in reality, they're not really like that.

cars

from point A to point B and all week this has gotten me from point A to point B with absolutely no problems, yes, and civility did the same, but I feel like I've had a little more fun and zero fun in any of these

cars

, but the experiences have been perfectly neutral or slightly above neutral, nothing negative at all, but I feel like I need to say that the Civic is the one that is a little more fun.

More Interesting Facts About,

I could wait for that turbo to work. It starts and handles a little better, so if you care about that stuff, I would highly recommend the Civic over the Corolla. Yes, the Civic's handling is definitely better than the Corolla and if you like comparisons like this, we do a lot of these so be sure to check them out, subscribe and hit the bell for more of them, so let's get to the important stuff that really interest people in this number one segment, both take regular gasoline and, as always, we don't talk about gasoline. mileage, but on paper they are practically exactly the same.

People probably care about being able to fit in the front seat and the back seat. Yes, so I feel more comfortable in the Civic seats just sitting in them while driving and I have more leg room. behind me in the Civic I feel like they're pretty much the same as far as comfort goes if you don't really think about it and the Corolla has lumbar support yeah and we both have heated seats in the front we actually have heated seats in the back, which is awesome and I don't have a heated steering wheel in the Civic so I actually have a heated steering wheel in the Corolla and I also have a heated area for my wipers in the Corolla and that's nice.

Impressive because there is a very slight price difference between these, but we'll get to that in the end. The next thing someone probably cares about is whether they have Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The Corolla and Civic have Apple Carplay, but the Corolla does not. it has android auto which is ridiculous come on Toyota even the supers will get it soon ok and they both have wireless chargers which is great but it uses apple carplay you have a plug in both anyway you don't really have them you will use and since you are going to be Driving this every day you listen to music and you listen to your satellite radio.
I think the Civic has the

best

sound system. Oh, it definitely has it. The Corolla feels like everything comes from the front. The Civic feels like surround sound and both are reminiscent of satellite radio. they both do it, but I think it's a little bit better to use in the Corolla, and you know what else is better to use in the Corolla, the tuning knob, yeah, because you don't have one in the Civic, it has that old infotainment system Civic they used to have. touch volume they fixed with some physical buttons but there are much better buttons on this Corolla, yes when we previously reviewed the Civic they added some physical buttons and a volume knob a couple of years ago but still Not the

best

compared with a Kia or a Hyundai.
If I click the phone button it will take me to my phone screen in Apple Carplay. There is no way to go to the screening or go directly to satellite radio. There are too many clicks for everything. As far as I'm concerned, and you know what I really care about in a car like this, trunk space, yes the Civic actually has a little more trunk space and I think it's better configured, but I had a problem when I went. To play hockey in the Corolla I couldn't put the rear seats down in the trunk to put my hockey stick in, so I had to go to the front door, unlock it with my hand and then go to the back door, open it. get in and lower the seats so I can put my hockey stick in the Civic.
We have little knobs in the trunk to lower the rear seats, which is a big deal if you really need to snowboard, play hockey with your golf bags. there or something, and before I talk about the rearview camera, let me launch forward with the CVT and turbo. I find it funny as I really enjoy the power delivery on this because it's fun. I can see why you think it's interesting, but be brutally honest, they're like people who move around and don't like it at all, so now let's talk about these backup cameras, the one on the Civic is definitely worse quality than the one on the Corolla, yeah , you have a better field of view that you can actually see. what's around you and I think the Civic is pretty good at not hitting that pole behind you, but what sucks is that none of these have parking sensors, so let's talk about some safety stuff.
I don't have any blind spot monitoring on the Civic. but I have a camera on the right side yeah and it turns on when you turn on the signal but you can't turn it off in the settings and you had a problem with that yeah so every time I use my Android Auto I would. just take one more second to get back to Android Auto so I was doing a right turn using my signal and then I missed my thing and I was like oh no I turn here or after this so it's a little weird and in the Corolla, you have regular blind spot monitoring with little sensors in the mirrors, yes it works very well and luckily for us both cars have pretty decent lane keeping, but they are not as good as Hyundai or Kia, yes, the best.
Part of them is that they actually have Lane Center, they still move a little bit, but they're definitely Lane centered and they also have adaptive cruise, so if you're stuck in rush hour traffic and not going too fast on the freeway . It's pretty good at taking control hey Yuri, I've got a good one for you hey, hit me with it. I looked at Toyota's website while researching that vehicle and they said something about the transmission. I'm going to have to read it to you. for website news oh yeah I want to hear this marketing jargon, tell me if you feel this while driving that car, a true performance powertrain, it even features laser coated valves, a technology derived from F1 racing.
Well, I think marketing needs tone. I came down to earth a little bit on that, yeah, Toyota and F1, yeah, that's something that's like me saying everything is like my Marauder and you saying everything is like your Raptor, that's pretty much what they did there, so let's change cars, let's talk about a Some more comparisons inside look at the looks of both and then let's get to the price when you said change cars, did you mean we're going to change for a prowler Raptor, even though you said it , the reason why I want? change is because I have no faith in Toyota to pass the sun visor test, you ready, yeah, three, two, one, yeah, performance extension, I should have stayed in that car, okay, cup holder test, you got the cups in your car and this definitely happens in the Corolla and it definitely happens in the Civic, it's the same amazing cup holder that we love in every Civic we've driven and I'd love to talk about the center console section because it's filled with gloss black on the Corolla and I find it disgusting, yes.
It doesn't really bother me, it has a clean look and doesn't really reach up high so it feels like you have more green space. I think it's a green house, a green house and it just feels less overwhelming. In the Corolla it definitely feels less cramped in the Corolla just because of the way the center console is configured, you have more knee room and in both cars we have a nice armrest where we can put our hand. the steering wheel while we have our elbow on the armrest which I think is cool and we both have normal shift paddles which is amazing yeah it's actually a little crazy we both have sport modes that don't do too much yeah like that that the Corolla is actually a button that says sport, the Civic only has sport for the transmission, yes, the sport mode, the Civic does not change the shocks or the steering or anything.
The sport mode on the Corolla does affect the steering which is great, however it is very light on the Corolla which older people would probably appreciate, yes it adds not just rear steering for all people which is Well, it's super light compared to the Civic. Personally, I prefer the Civic's steering, yes it's definitely much better, so let's talk about these fake gears now. If I shift them manually with these paddles in the Corolla, they shift so fast. I don't like the shape of the paddles on the Corolla. I prefer the shape of the paddles on the Civic.
Did you notice that the paddles on the krohler are like? double paddles, so the part you actually press is not the plus/minus, it's like some weird decorative paddles. I wish they would go the Ultima route and get rid of all of them but you only get the paddles on the higher trims like the SE the X se because this is the sportier version of this Corolla so the Civic has an eco mode and when you drive economically the lights turn green and when you hit the ground they turn white, the Corolla has a little leaf that appears every time you let off the accelerator or rev it again it will go away but you can turn it off and I think we found it annoying at one point previous Toyota video.
Yes, Lexus is known for doing that, again, same company, so you can turn it off here. and the last things i want to talk about on the interior, neither of these have memory seats which sucks if you share it with your spouse, yeah and these are the top trims of both so it would be nice if they added that. and only the Civic has the garage door opener buttons on the mirror which is awesome if you don't want to have a garage door opener all the time, that's your latest random obsession if you have to snowboard and you have to open your garage. opening the trunk lid and going around every time and having to take out the clicker every time, you save yourself a lot of extra steps in the Civic and I have two last things I would like to talk about on the interior, so let's start with the gauges I think that the gauges on the Civic look much better, their quality, like everything about them, I prefer yes, it has a cleaner look and I think it's because they are the same gauges on the Type R, the Corolla matches everything others in the Taylor line.
I don't really like it but I don't care either and we talked about the seats before but I just want to mention that on the Corolla you get soft text which is like simulated leather and on the Civic you actually get real leather but certainly the Corolla has Much more attractive seats, yes they actually look so cool it's a raptor and before we get to the looks the last thing I would like to talk about is the overall ride quality and comfort they are. They are both very comfortable, I have no problems with either, but the only thing is that if you just want a better ride, buy the Civic, but they are both equally comfortable and as for the overall interior, which one do you prefer?
I prefer the. looks of the Civic I prefer everything about the interior of the Civic to be honest, I think I prefer the functionality of the Civic but I like the look of the Corolla better and definitely the Corolla's infotainment screen wins for me, yes the screen in Yeah. It's definitely better quality and one more thing to tie the inside to the outside because we're going to talk about that next. Both have proximity touch door handles, so you don't need to take your key out of your pocket ever, yes. and the Civic actually has remote start, which is awesome, but in the Civic you have to press a hard button to close the door, whereas in the Corolla you can just touch it with your hand, so going from the door handles doors, let's talk about the general look of both.
Of these, which one looks better counting three one two three Corolla, good job, friend Toyota, can you imagine that this is the beige Corolla from the 90s and 2000s that hasbeen circulating recently? This is what will be circulating in ten years and The point is that no one looks at that like no one looks at that curl on the road. It's a very attractive car, especially next to the Civic, it looks incredible, so as for the front, if we start with the headlights, obviously, the Corolla wins, yes. You know they're actually called Triple J headlights. I'll take that and then order grilles on the front.
You have a huge grille on the Corolla, which is much more modern. Yes, the front of the Corolla is much more. aggressive, there are so many grilles up there, especially since this is the XS IIso that's the sporty Type R versus side and body lines? Do you have any preference? I think the Civic has harder body lines, but I prefer the overall side view look of the Corolla I prefer the look of the Civic a little more What about the wheels? I really like the wheels on the Corolla. They look so cool. The ones on the Civic are fine, but the ones on the Corolla are legitimately nice wheels.
Yes, I will give. this one for Corolla too and what is Continental's recommended tire for these two lovely vehicles from point A to point B, the Continental Pure Contact LS and the Viking Contact 7. Now, how about the rear? The rear of the Corolla is much more aggressive. I really like it, I like how they made the whole bottom of the rear bumper simulate a grille pattern like it doesn't hide it at all, yeah it's literally like the whole bumper and you have a diffuser and stuff on there and then you have a look pretty decent. Looking at the exhaust only on the Corolla and on the Civic we have a little fake grille on the sides that everyone complained about but I don't think they will complain anymore after looking at that Corolla but we do have dual exhaust. which is pretty hidden on the Civic, yeah, and if that hidden dual exhaust bothers you, you can get the sporty one that has a cooler looking exhaust and then we both have little spoilers, the Civic is too small.
I think the Corolla wins. In this one, yes, the spoilers are so minimal that I can't even decide a winner spoiler-wise. Sorry, and then as for the taillights, we have the old lobster claws on the Civic, which I've outgrown, and the Corollas have something like that. Quiet little lines, nothing spectacular on either end, so with everything out of the way, I think it's time to get to the price and decide which one we would choose or recommend, so let's start with the cheapest: the Corolla twenty-eight thousand four. one hundred ninety dollars can he and the Civic is only three hundred dollars more at twenty eight thousand seven hundred and ninety dollars so the price is pretty much the same yeah three hundred dollars will bankrupt you just look for another job so which one would you choose and why is there many more things that I prefer so much about the Civic starting with the transmission I like the interior I like the handling I don't like the appearance so much but that's enough to decide on the Civic and especially because for me it also has Android Auto.
I think it all comes down to a few little tricks. Being able to lower the rear seats from the trunk is huge. Having the garage door opener plugged in here is huge. Both lanes are pretty similar, so I'm not. I'm really going to argue about that and they both wanted satellite radio stations and had Apple Carplay so I'm good at that so I'm a little confused as to what your decision is. I would have to go to the Civic because those are the things that matter most to me. but it's not that the curl is a bad car by any means, there are little things that add up to both for the Civic, yes, and for a lot of people, a lot of these things don't matter, people don't need them. garage door opener buttons, they don't require the rear seats to be lowered from the back, in which case pretty much anything you can get a better deal on or anything you're more used to is fine because, just like the knob of fit, it could be a It's a great deal for someone else in the Corolla, which would suck for the Civic, and since I already have a car that I think looks really cool, looks won't influence which car I'd choose;
However, if this is someone's only car, maybe their first car they buy new, they might like the Corolla a lot more because of its looks, so let us know in the comments which one you think is better, which Did you buy, which one would you recommend, so if you want. see more comparison videos check out this playlist here and if you want to see more sedan videos check out this playlist here
