What kind of books should you read well? You've probably guessed that I'm not talking. About comics, I'm not talking about children's books, the types of books that I recommend you read are non-fiction books or also fiction, biographies, classic literature books about historical events, business books or literary fiction, all of these are the types of books that have se You've put a lot of work into them and they use a level of vocabulary and structure that you probably want to aspire to - since you're working to become a leader, you probably want to sound smarter and more structured and organized as you speak. the types of books you can use to get those ideas and also to get the vocabulary.
I recommend that you read books that you normally don't read. This will help expose you to new ideas, new ways of thinking, new ways. It's also important to structure your ideas, so if you normally read biographies, then maybe opt for books about historical events or maybe if you read a lot of business books, you can learn a lot from reading classic literature. How often should you read? This is a question I get asked. enough, I recommend that you read five to ten pages every day. The way I do it is during breakfast. Usually, while eating breakfast, I have a book next to me instead of my phone instead of Instagram.
I have a book next to me and I am. reading the book, reviewing the pages of the book while eating breakfast, when to read, it's really up to you how you like to fit it into your daily schedule, but I recommend reading five to ten pages every day this way. filling your mind with new vocabulary with good sentence structure and new ideas. You're probably wondering if I have any recommendations for you on what books you should read. This is definitely a question I'll get once you're at This Point on the YouTube video, so I wanted to share with you this book, which is one of my favorite books to read.
It's called John F. Kennedy's Profiles in Courage. I will put information about it in the description below. It's an old book. It was written in 1965 in a very classical English style, the way people used to write back then. I love the way people wrote books during that time or even before the 1960s. I find it very clever. The vocabulary used is so rich. The phrases. that are used in one of the phrases in this book that I found that I love and I thought it was so clever it was independent courage the phrase independent courage so there are many more phrases like that in this book there are many more things that you can learn in this The book is extremely, this particular one I have is extremely old.
I bought it at a second hand store. If you were to flip through the pages, you would probably see that all the pages have started to peel away from the spine and are coming out. so i have to be very careful with this book but john f kennedy recommended profiles is a really good book that i would recommend you read if you want to start reading books with a higher level of vocabulary definitely go for the ones that were published a long time ago time, so even in the early 1900s, the way they used to write back then, the way they used to organize their thoughts back then, the vocabulary they used back then, was on another level, you hardly see that today in the books that are published, so I highly recommend this or any other topic that was written at that time or before to help you enrich yourself with vocabulary, sentence structure and better organize your thoughts, so that reading is definitely the first step you need. fill your mind to fill your subconscious with the tools with the vocabulary with the ideas and the structure that you need to move on to the second step that we're going to talk about right now writing is the second step in this three-step sequence and this is a fantastic way to help you better organize your thoughts.
Put it on paper so you can see if the thoughts you have in your mind are really organized or not. It also helps you identify them, so sometimes when you have those thoughts. in your mind they are all confused, it is difficult to clearly identify what those thoughts are writing, it is one of the best ways to clarify those thoughts and identify them as well, as I mentioned at the beginning of this video, our speech is a reflection of our thinking, so first we need to organize our thoughts and we do this by writing before we start speaking what is the next step we will talk about in a couple of moments when you don't do this this is what leads to confusing communication when you have those confusing thoughts in your mind and then you go from those confused thoughts directly to speaking, that is what leads to speaking confusingly and not being able to articulate your thoughts clearly or communicate them well, basically what writing does is that it allows you to take the time to organize your thoughts well, it allows you It allows you to get them out of your mind to put them on paper and see if they are organized or not and if they are good thoughts or not, you can put those thoughts in order, you can organize them. them and you can eliminate thoughts that are not important or that do not contribute anything to the discussion if you feel that it does not make sense when you speak well it is probably because you have not spent the time organizing your thoughts as you do.
Through this writing process, you end up to jump right into talking without organizing them first and that is what has led to confusing and meaningless communication. I want you to get into the habit of writing down your thoughts now, how do you do it well? It should be something you do every day, like reading, part of your daily routine, and it's something that can directly follow your reading schedule. you can write a diary. you can formally write any type of writing that suits you best. I recommend that you write a page. every day, so reading is five to ten pages every day, but writing, because it takes longer, you can pause, you can organize your thoughts much more.
Write a page a day. I usually write in a book like this. It's just a simple notebook, I'll open it, the pages are reproducing, there is no line in this book and I think this works much better for me by not having lines drawn on the page, I find it when I'm working or writing with lines limits my thinking in a way that prevents me from thinking freely and writing freely, so I like to have the space and opportunity on a blank page like this to simply scribble my thoughts and write them down in a more coherent way.
What can you write about? So that's definitely your next question. You have this book. What do you really write about? Well, you can reflect on the past, so think about things that happened yesterday, last week, last month, maybe there were fears you faced, conversations you had. with people, challenges you faced, achievements, you made your wishes, goals you are working on to achieve goals you have achieved, disagreements you had with someone or agreements you had with someone, there are a number of things that you can use as inspiration for your writing, as well as by reflecting on the past you can also look to the future you can write about your future goals your future dreams your desires conversations that you want to have with people and this is a fantastic point for people who are looking to communicate more assertively if you have a conversation you need to have with someone who is an assertive conversation you are a little nervous about that assertive conversation you can write the conversation using your diary your morning diary what do you do if you go to a job interview you can use it for exactly the same thing too, so there is a number of things that you can write about, it's really just about you deciding what the topic is, what the topic is that you want to write about and this is where you can start to be creative, but this The process, when done daily, it will definitely help you organize your thoughts to structure them better and help you communicate them more clearly.
How long will this whole process take? How long will it take you to start seeing improvement in it? way you communicate well, I would recommend that you wait at least a couple of weeks. I think it takes most people two weeks to start seeing improvement in their communication, so remember it's a whole process that you have to go through and you're basically retraining your brain, you're retraining the way you think. about things, the way you have your thoughts in your mind, the way you structure them and the way they come up also when you communicate and the way you notice if you are getting better with your thoughts and articulating them better is if you start to feel less and less that you are communicating in a confusing way if you start to feel more and more that you are clearer with your communication and you are also realizing through the reactions of other people that they are actually understanding what you are saying, so pay attention to these signals, the way you feel, the way the other person reacts, to detect and understand if you are starting to see an improvement in your own communication and the third step in this.
The sequence is speaking, so we have filled your mind with a rich vocabulary with good structure with new ideas through step one where you read and then we have transferred all that knowledge and all that intelligence to paper through the writing process and through the By writing process, you have started to organize your thoughts better, better identify good ideas, reject bad ideas and this has led to clearer thoughts in your mind, leading to clearer communication, so the next step in this process is really talking and this is where you move your thoughts. your mind from paper to the world in conversations with the people you interact with this is your ultimate goal this is the purpose of this three-step process speak clearly articulate your thoughts well and communicate clearly with the other person One of the things I have noticed What about people who speak very well and can articulate their thoughts very clearly is that they have now been trained to do so.
Sometimes this training happens formally, they can go to a school where they learn how to do it, but most of the time it happens informally, it happens through their education, fromFrom their family background, from the education they receive, many of those people are exposed to debates, from people who have fantastic communication skills, they engage in those conversations with those people and through the way they communicate they can learn from those people. they learn vocabulary they learn to communicate their thoughts they learn to argue points there are many families in this world every night during dinner they regularly have enriching conversations they have deep conversations whether it is about politics about music about history they debate their ideas a lot and through this process if you do every night it is normal that over time they develop very good communication skills naturally they are exposed to people who are good communicators they themselves are acquiring all these skills all these tools and they are bringing them to their conversations in the world they also learn to have intelligent debates with people they know how to argue their points they know how to speak persuasively they know how to influence people or influence their ideas they know how to explain complicated concepts because They have had experience and training to do this by practicing speaking.
These people can acquire invaluable communication skills in all types of communication and also in communicating with all types of people, but not everyone has the same education, not everyone is exposed to intelligent debates every night in which they listen. people to argue their points of view and where they also have the opportunity to defend their points of view. Not everyone is exposed to this growing up. I certainly wasn't. I admit that for you I was not in a family where we had these types of conversations at the table, so I did not learn to do this through my family upbringing.
The strategy I used was to read, write and finally speak, just as I am teaching you in this. video, so we've gone through the process of what to do for reading, what to do for writing now, how do you practice speaking if you don't have access to this kind of home environment that I just described, how do you actually do it? Practice speaking well. I'm going to share with you an activity on exactly how you can do it. I want you to choose someone you feel comfortable with. It could be a work colleague. It could be a friend in your personal life or your partner.
Make yourself comfortable and I want you to talk to that person for five minutes straight. It is an improvised style. Talk for five minutes straight about a topic that is important to you, so it could be the same topic you wrote about in your journaling stage. That morning you wrote about a certain topic and you would like to tell the person you are conversing with about that topic so you can choose whether it could be about a conversation you recently had with someone, it could be an experience you recently had, a challenge you recently The topic you choose is really up to you, but if you find it difficult to choose a topic to talk about, I recommend choosing the same topic you wrote about that morning in your journal.
You can write your thoughts in your journal. you are going to discuss them how you are going to present them to your conversation partner you can do all that organization and all that planning in the second step when you write remember that we need organized thoughts to have clear communication and articulate well so that you can organize your thoughts when you write and when you speak you can follow the structure the exact structure that you wrote about that morning when you do this on a regular basis it will help you organize your thoughts it will help you master how to communicate them clearly and how to articulate them well.
