Animating in Microsoft POWER POINT - It's ACTUALLY GREAT!?!

Jun 02, 2021
My first animation experience was good, I think everyone's first animation experiences are in the corner of your textbooks at school. I think I made a video doing that and then I made a flip book, but my first digital animation experience was

actually

in Microsoft Power

point

, so I'm going to open up Microsoft PowerPoint. Can I animate in PowerPoint today the same way or even as I did when I was 12 years old? I'm now using the sexy new Canvas 16, but this is the 2021 edition and I'm so excited. and I'm very excited to share with you as a sponsor of this video, in fact they sent me their full lineup on the 16th, 13th and 12th.

So we'll talk about that in more detail later, but a big thank you to euron for sponsoring this video now , something you can apparently do in PowerPoint now that you couldn't do when I started is draw, oh my gosh, that's good, that's good, that's really good, oh, okay, we'll play with those features later. To start off by showing you how I used to animate in PowerPoint, it was with paint and PowerPoint, so my first animation looked like this: there was a bar like a railing, a handrail that people walk on, and a path. something like that I'm going to save my rail as an image and then I have to go back to it and just give myself a bunch of frames I'm going to do my stick figure pose, let's make a skateboard, I'm going to make a 3D skateboard here we go so now I'll select it when I put it here there look that's why I'm a professional animator copy boom no better grab it again come back here it's very tedious copy paste next frame select grab move place select copy paste next frame go back select move resize place select copy paste quick select move resize place click copy paste undo and select delete so I'm going to animate okay, he slipped and the skateboard stands up like this boom select boom copied, that's good moving skateboards going flying here , select copy and paste the next frame, its little motion lines fly off the screen and in the beautiful final frame we have the stick figures head open, just a real mess of blood, gore and grip. some pink there's some guts here this was my childhood I mean that's pretty cool but it's manually I mean we don't want to do that that's not an animation I mean if every time you watched Aladdin you had to do it , you would probably see a lot of animations. so let's figure out how to automate this and I know I figured this out in the past,

actually

just for context, not only did I do this, this was the style of my first few animations, but once I figured this out I went crazy. and I'm fully animated like hundreds of frames from a mortal kombat fight.

I figured out how to add music. I figured out how to add sound effects. I'll do it again today, but let's start by figuring out how to make it play. itself, I mean, here's an idea, let me duplicate the first slide, can I crop it? Let's stick it, it's uh, send it back. See I have two separate things in exactly the same position, except this time the animations will come from well, hey, okay, what's next? I want to auto-frame the advanced slides automatically, it's an option on mouse click after that, that's it, done, it worked perfectly, this is much better than I expected, oh my god, I could do it.

A lot with this and I'm going to come with sound effects, push sound, how's that sound, okay, actually, in this frame, let's play one of these, yeah, here we go, are you ready, I'm blown away, in You can actually animate in PowerPoint, I can do cool things in this and you can too with a new line of Huey on Canvas tablets to choose from. The links are all in the description as well as all the details, check them out for yourself and let's put some of that pressure sensitivity to the test. and we're going to do a mortal kombat fight we're open in photoshop, not paint, we're going to take things to the next level.
I'm going to recreate the mortal kombat style stick figure as best I can. Animation to death that I did when I was 12 years old. Now remember that the background I made was basically like a spot of dirt like grass. I'll take it a few levels further. Let's add some distance. Some mountains. Last but not least. Having our grounds have a little texture on the edge It looks a little grassy It's nice It's a beautiful sunny summer day What could our characters want to do more in this beautiful environment than fight to the death? bring our background here so all I have to do is copy and paste, let's start with a hundred frames in a row, the first head, something quite symmetrical on the left, here he is ready to fight there and this guy that he will run with, will attack him , I mean, I think I'm ready, I'm ready to go, it's time to ride, I get offended, I made you mad, I get it, when I get to her for the last time, I get it, then I'll never come back, I get it, then I'll never I will return, I understand.
I pissed you off first I guess when I get to it the last time, get it then I'll never come back, get it I'll never come back, now I think I have an animation that spans 87 frames and it should repeat. now I'm not going to play it yet I need to add some finishing touches starting with blood and there's not really much impact, they actually dodge each other a lot, there's one here, there you go, okay, so let's add some blood. red, let's reduce our thickness, we have an impact here and then in the next frames the trick with the blood is that you want the initial frame to be where the stains come out of the temptation is to accept it, but you have to do both, they have the impact which has to happen where the impact was and then there's some kind of trail, the trick is to just pick a

point

and follow it until it's complete and that way you just sort of go back, pick the next part, there's my next part , just continue the path back, continue the path and that's how you get a really dynamic splat, there's different blood types that we have, we have the splat that we made and then this is a little bit hazy look at that, there we go, that's it Well, that was good blood. your point of impact always has to be nice, nice and aggressive.
Would you be interested in how to animate the blood video that we're going to want to add? frame sync I want some frames to hold a little longer, let's go to point five, I think before impact that should have a little more love too, it should probably be there relaxing for a moment, so let's give it two seconds standing still. there before the guy falls boom and then they're both in a resting position here I have three seconds okay I think I have my frame held let's play and let's just see what the timing is like there's the loop the pauses are a little awkward, okay, that's actually really good, okay, a little tweak and then we're almost there, so we just need to add sound effects, let's go to point two, that's really good, okay, sound effects time, oh My God, what are our wishes?
There you go, there's a nice boom down below, I think it's pretty good because here's our impact, we need something thick here, what's the voice? Okay, we need something, we need a good impact for this part feels pretty good. The second beat needs a bit of a string, that's good, we need another shock voice, a bit like that, okay, a big bush, okay, I think I have sound effects in place, I have no idea if this goes to work or what the moment will be like, but let's experiment. together for the first time oh my god this is really good it's perfect and the sound effects really work very well the timing is pretty good they don't overlap well but the fact that they are cutting into each other like that it's kind of works pretty well it's subtle it's simple and it's actually very fluid this how good is that oh my god yes now look I've just scratched the surface here and if this is the tip of the iceberg I want your help to see how Deep is the iceberg understand, I am going to organize a competition, make an animation using only

microsoft

power

point, you can use some external art programs like I did with the background and even as a character pass or whatever it is up to you, but do an animation using

microsoft

powerpoint and use the hashtag powerpoint. animator on Twitter so I can see your entries and I'll review them in a future video and pick one or more winners to win some really cool huion prizes.
It is a condition for your entry that you will have to prove it. You made the animation in PowerPoint, either with a screen recording showing how you put it together or showing the end result like this with a bunch of frames there and maybe picking one of them and showing the fact that it's all there. I want to see how far we as a community can push our PowerPoint animation skills and see how good this animation program can be, maybe you guys will be better at

animating

in PowerPoint than me or just have some really fun and inventive ways to even use the animation effects for objects or characters that you put in powerpoint submit it using that hashtag details about the deadline are below a huge thank you to huion for sponsoring this video but also that contest, so if you want a chance to win a

great

huion I'll keep the awards a secret until later because I don't want to see your genuine creativity, not based on what you think you're going to get, but I think it'll be really fun to also see what people can create. and share that together, otherwise that's all for this video, please like this video if you enjoyed our little journey, a little experiment and subscribe to have more fun with the creativity of artistic animation and much more.
There are more videos there that you will surely enjoy if I enjoyed this one and it was quite a pleasure and I'm glad I experienced this with you here today. That is all for now. Thanks for watching and until next time, I'll see you later.
