Jun 04, 2021
Hello and welcome, I'm Jennifer McGuire and I'm glad you're here today. I'm sharing with you four

ways

to add transparent

elements

to your

card

s. Acetate, or as I also like to call it,

clear

paper, is a fun thing to use on

card

s. because it's very unexpected and there are fun things you can do with it, fun techniques. Today I will share four ideas and 4 cards with you. Let's start with this first card. Actually, this is a

clear

card that I'm going to share. tips for stamping on transparent cards. I'm using a new product from Mama Elephant called the dog stamp set.
4 ways clear card elements
They have released stamp sets like this in the past that feature cats and snowmen. Well, now they have dogs for all dogs. Lovers like me, I think this is a very fun stamp set that you can build in many

ways

. I went ahead and stamped it on white cardstock and colored it with Copic markers. I didn't do anything fancy, you could use any type. whatever color you would like and I'm using the coordinating die to go ahead and cut it out. You could really hand cut this because it's pretty simple, but I went ahead and used the coordinating die.

Now you notice that my color did not reach. all the way, so I went ahead and trimmed a little more off the bottom. I'm also cutting a piece of white cardstock using the same coordinating die so it's the exact same shape and size now for this card. using my first favorite acetate product that I recommend and these are clear acetate cards from Hero Arts, there are several in a pack and it also comes with white card inserts and the envelopes are four and a quarter by five and a half and they are super thick. They are perfectly clear and come folded so you don't have to worry about getting a good score line.

This is a great product. I've used it many times over the years and I'll link to some videos I've made. Using it very thick, I have never found such a nice acetate to create this card before. I'm gluing my little dog piece right on the bottom front of that acetate card. You'll see a green marker on that acetate I was testing. a little bit of coloring, I'm going to cover it, so I glued my little dog on the front of that clear card, now this other white piece, I'm going to put adhesive on the front and then I'm going to glue it on the right. against the back of my colored puppy piece, this will be inside the card and will allow me to cover the adhesive so it looks nice and clean when you open the card.
4 ways clear card elements
It also offers a bit of stability. To trim the bottom of that a little bit and now the front of our card is ready, however we need to make sure we have something on the inside as well so we can write our message on there, so I cut a thin strip of white cardstock. measures approximately 1 and 3/4 inches. I'm putting some adhesive on it and I'm actually doing this in two pieces, one will go on the inside of the card and one will go on the back of the card, so I'm gluing the first piece right on the bottom inside of the card, this is where our greeting will go, where we can write our little personal message.
There isn't much space but I usually don't write much on the inside of my cards so I thought this would work well, now I'm going to stick the other piece on the back of my card, this will hide the adhesive on the other side and also It'll give me a place where I can stamp my hand with Jennifer's seal or whatever you stamp. on the back of your card and again gives it more stability, but remember this clear card is super thick, it doesn't really need anything else, we just need a few dots to write our messages on so you can see the front of the card. the inside of the card and all of our adhesive is hidden, there is something on each side of the card.
I also used an extra image of a puppy that is included in that stamp set and a little card with a heart and stamped it inside. and I will color it to match the front of the card below. I wanted to stamp a sentiment on the front of that acetate on the front of the card. Stamping on acetate can be tricky, but now I have some tips for you. Mother elephant came out. with the script denotes a set of stamps, the one on the left a couple of months ago and it is a fantastic set, it was on my list of favorite things of 2017.
They recently came out with the Mama Elephant scripted birthday stamp set that is Go to the right. a feeling that says yes, happy mail and I will use it today. I wanted to show you both games because they are wonderful. Now stamping on acetate is very easy if you use the right ink. I'm using the Mouse Misti stamping tool. just because I wanted to demonstrate some things, but you can use an acrylic block if that's all you have. I'm using black ink for this. This is an excellent ink that dries very well on acetate. You can also use white.
It also works great now I need to react mine but I can't find my grudge staying there. It's an ink that needs to react frequently, so I'm going to stamp it twice now, you'll notice I didn't stamp it twice. Well, the good thing about acetate is that you can clean it perfectly with a little alcohol. I used an alcohol swab and then cleaned it with a baby wipe and it completely erases what's left in the ink, that's one of the good ones. things about stamping on acetate, you can clean it with an alcohol swab, so here I will do a better job this time stamping and I stamped what's left in black ink on my acetate card, normally you only need to stamp at once if your ink pad It's really, but mine is pretty old and needs some sorting, so there's your opinion on the front of the card now to clean up your stamp.
I don't recommend using permanent cleaners on your clear stamps, so I use my Hero Arts Ultra Clean instead. That's safe on stamps and works very well as long as it stays in the ink. I would just recommend cleaning the seal right away. Next, I'll add some little heart die cuts with a strong distress collage medium which is a nice strong adhesive, then I'll cover those little red heart die cuts with a toning glass glaze. This is just a clear product that will give us a nice clear dimension and shine, so here is the final card, you can see there is a place to write. on the inside the top of the card is clear it has a lot of stability it's nice and strong and you have your floating sentiment stamped on the top so this first idea showed how to make a clear card and also incorporate stamping now my Next The example shows how acetate can be colored to achieve a sort of stained glass look.
There are a few ways to do this, but today I'll show you my favorite way. For this one, I'm using another of my favorite acetate products, these are hero arts. acetate sheets these are different than acetate note cards the material is a little different this is perfectly transparent and is perfect for shaker windows or any type of window on your card comes in packs this size or a little larger also the price is good, but keep in mind that for some of these techniques like this, you can use any recycled acetate you may have from the packaging.
I just like this because it's good quality. I'm also using the lovely new Mama Elephant stamp set, this is a beautiful set with some script words which I think are really fun and unique. I'm using my Misti again simply because it's handy, but you can use any acrylic block or stamping tool. I'm trying a piece of that Hero Arts acetate sheet. on my Misti when you stamp it on acetate, the stamp wants to stick to the acetate and lift it up, so I decided to tape it instead. I have my flower image here and again I'm going to stamp with ink scraps.
I will stamp this directly onto the acetate and then I want to stamp the beautiful one through that, however I don't want the stem to overlap so I used an alcohol swab to erase some of the stem. This is really useful stuff. you can do it with acetate now I can pray to place that beautiful stamp right over that open area, put it in my Misti and then stamp it with the same black that remains in the ink, it comes in many colors but my favorites and I think they are the ones that The ones that are the most effective are black and white.
Now I'm going to give that acetate a little time. I don't want to heat this acetate with my heat gun once it's nice and dry. I'm going to turn it over and add some color with my Copic markers on the back. You could color directly on the front, but I wanted to make sure it was completely dry, so I went ahead and colored on the back, but you can definitely color it properly. on the front you want to use some type of alcohol marker or you could even use a Sharpie marker for this. I'm using Copic markers because that's what I have now.
I'm coloring a little bit darker red, then going to medium and then light. reds and you will notice that every time you touch the previous color with a new marker, it will move it, so it is a little difficult to mix them, you will not get a perfect match with these, instead you will become kind. like it was stained glass, so I put a little bit of color in first and then I went back over all the areas with little dots, so you know, I'm just putting little dots in the dark areas with this darker Copic marker.
I'll come in with the other colors and add dots, something about those little dots, the way you move the ink around the acetate a little bit gives it a beautiful stained glass look. It's something completely different than coloring on normal paper, you can also remove the color. erase it easily with your colorless blender or a lighter color so I went ahead and put green for the stem and gold behind the word lovely and let it dry for a while once I was sure it was dry which it didn't Before long, I created a five-and-a-quarter-inch by four-inch piece of white cardstock and cut a rectangular window from the center.
I put adhesive around that window on the back of the white cardstock and I'm attaching my Beautiful Acetate piece next, I'm going to add some double sided tape to it, this is foam tape so it has a dimension that will allow it to the acetate floats over our card because we added that dimension there. I have a piece of white cardstock here. that's just a piece that I had left over that will serve as a backup for this and then I'll put a strong adhesive on it and stick it to a red card. I put that white piece there so that the white would show through the window instead of the red card so you can see that the acetate is kind of floating above the cardstock.
I could put some little gems or sequins in there and make it into a shaker card, but I decided to leave it as a kind of faux stained glass, very simple, but it's really elegant in real life, this card doesn't take much time, so you can make many times and since you can erase the print or color with an alcohol swab you will never make a mistake, so there you have an idea of adding color to your acetate, next let's talk about heat stamping on acetate. This is something I am often asked about. I'm going to share with you my tips and favorite products for that.
I'm using the Mama Elephant Fly With Me stamp set. This is a new set that is just adorable, so I'm going to use an elephant holding a balloon in the big hug sentiment. I'm also using the Fringe Scalloped Rectangular Die Set with Small Anchor Designs. This is a unique die set that I am using cuts of a rectangle with a fun fringe that has dimension on the outside. I went ahead and stamped and colored one of the elephants holding the balloon and now I have a piece of white cardstock that measures four by five and a quarter of the center.
I'm die cutting one of the fringed scalloped rectangular dies from that little anchor set. I can save that middle rectangle for another card. I'm going to use the outline piece to create a simple shaker card now to make the scallops on this holder stand up, just flip it over and press the little scallops with your craft knife and that gives it a fun dimension. Here I'm just placing the frame around my print and inside the area of the stamped piece. I am adding small dots of strong liquid adhesive to the adhesive. I'm putting in some little rainbow jewels to stay on the shaker card.
This will actually give better results for this card. I am using the third and last acetate product I used. Recommended for making cards. This is Judah Khun's Impossible Window Plastic. What's unique about this particular acetate is that you can heat etch it. It can withstand the heat of a heat gun, while the other acetates really can't, they will warp and be destroyed. this comes in small packages like the one you see here of smaller pieces and also comes in full sheets. I would recommend any size. I usually use the small leaves because they come in handy now that this product can really handle the heat, so wheneverWant to heat etch on a shaker window or anything, this is what I'm looking for.
Make sure to use your anti-static powder tool before heat etching this. Here I am rubbing my anti-static powder tool on the impossible window plastic and stamping. my big hug feeling with Versamark ink. Next, I'll add my white embossing powder and tamp the tap to remove the extra powder for a clear, crisp image. Next, I'll make sure my heat gun is as hot as possible. Before taking it to the plastic it is impossible to not deform it at all, if you use too much heat you can deform it, but it is a little difficult to do. Then I can wipe off that extra dust and it's ready to go here I have it. my window piece on the back.
I'm putting some double-sided adhesive right against the edge of the window. I'm going to place my acetate piece down so that the big hugs line up with the globe and then I can place my frame over It's just so I can pick up that acetate on the back of my frame and know that it's placed right next to it. I need some dimensional adhesive on the back of this frame so we can turn it into a shaker window. I am using derice foam adhesive strips, these have nice dimensions, they are flexible, easy to tear and very thin so you can really use them for almost any shaker window, make sure you seal all sides with this adhesive so none of your little treats will fall out once you have a lot of foam tape on the back here.
I'm ready to create my shaker window. I'll take a piece. of protective paper I have from a double sided adhesive I used in the past and I'm placing it on the work surface, placing my stamped piece right on top of it and placing some of the gems right on top of my stamped image in the center of That Piece Now I can place my shaker window on it on that protective paper behind it keeps it from sticking to my desk so now I have my shaker window and I can add this to the front of a four and a quarter by five and a half red card inch now because I glued some of those gems in place before creating my shaker card, some will stay stuck on top and not all of the gems will fall to the bottom, that's why I do it.
I like it when there are gems. all over the inside of the shaker card window. I also like that our Big Hugs embossed sentiment floats above that stamped image. Acetate embossing really makes a beautiful result on any window card or shaker card and is another fun way to use acetate, okay fourth way. To use acetate, what I'm going to recommend today is using embossing folders. This is really the best way to use acetate. I'm using a Hero Arts acetate notecard, just like I did at the beginning of the video I opened. card and on one of the panels I'm using this Tim Holtz dot embossing folder and running it through my embossing or die cutting machine just like I would any embossing folder.
I'm going to my second tab on my Big Shot, but you can use this with any die cutting machine like you normally would with an embossing folder. Now what happens is that the embossing folder warps and stretches the acetate and causes it to turn white in all areas of the pattern. Here it is. another example, this one shows much more. This is another embossing folder and you can see how different the pattern is. I decided to use the simple points for today's example. Next I am creating a little elephant with these Elephant Mom dies, they have a There are a lot of different animals that they have created in the past and I am so excited that they now have a dog.
They are very easy to put together and the set comes with a few different ears and such so you can create a variety of different animals. dogs here. I brought a set of Mama Elephant's Older Brides stamps to MIT and put it on my acrylic block in a little arc. I'm going to make it look like this is a collar for my dog, so I'm stamping my sentiment here and again it's on my acrylic block and a bow and I can stamp that there with Versamark ink, add white stamping powder and heat set it and I have a little curve now, which is really fun.
I took another piece of red cardstock and held it right behind it and cut them at the same time so I had two exactly the same size pieces again. This will be my dog's collar since I am Sending this to my daughter at college, I wanted to personalize it by creating a small dog tag that has an F on it for our foxy dog, so I die cut two circles out of silver cardstock and stamped one of these iconic lyrics of a major. Mama Elephant stamp set with the letter F in Versamark ink. Then I'll add some white embossing powder and heat it up to make it look like a little dog tag that has an F on it and make it look like it's hanging from the necklace next I'll put adhesive on the little necklace and add it to the back of our little dog here and then we can start assembling our card by putting a lot of strong double sided adhesive on the back of this little dog and I'll stick it on.
On the front of our dot card that we used that embossing folder on, I want to make sure I used a lot of adhesive because I wanted it to adhere well to the dot texture. I'll also add that little F tag right below it so it shows. like it's hanging from the dog's collar, now we want to cover that adhesive on the inside, so I cut another dog exactly the same way and I'm going to glue it to the inside of the card so this will hide our adhesive. the front of the card and remember how I cut two red pieces the same size, this one will go inside here.
I forgot to put it on first, so I peeled off my adhesive here and stuck it under and now we have a dog. the front and the inside and I went ahead and added ears as well and also a little tag on that side. Then we have to write your sentiment inside the card, so I cut out another dog head. I have adhesive up here. above with the dog head on the inside of the card, closing my card to transfer that dog head and it is also glued on the inside of the card and finally a little more double sided tape, another dog head and this is will stick to the back of the card so basically we have four dog heads covering all sides of this acetate card so no adhesive shows through and you have a place to write your sentiment and stamp your little hand stamped by Jennifer or any image on the back. now on the front of the card I'm adding the little dog nose and the little dog eyes now in this die set there are so many little pieces you can use there's a dog bone different styles of ears different nose lots of things you can use I decided to keep it pretty simple to make it look like my foxy dog and then I went over the die cut eyes and nose with black Nouveau drops, this gives me some dimension and shine and really makes it stand out, so here is the finished card, you can see the puppy on the front with the collar and you can see all those little dots that we created with the embossing folder.
Stamping your acetate cards is a great way to get more use out of your supplies. Now, this inner dog I have here. we don't have anything on it so we can write our little personal message and on the back we can stamp our little hand stamped by Jennifer so this is another fun way to use those acetate cards so if you're looking to explore the world of the clear

elements

on your cards I recommend the three products I use today Hero Arts Acetate Note Cards Hero Arts Acetate Sheets and Juda Impossible Window Plastic Tins all of our great products and we will give you more ways to use the products which you have if you are interested The supplies I use today are linked below in the YouTube description of my blog.
