1966 Chevelle will it RUN AND DRIVE 600 MILES? - Vice Grip Garage EP4

Jun 04, 2021
in this episode we are going to rescue a

1966

Chevelle the problem is that it is 600

miles

from me and I have never seen it the bots are on the old interwebs it seemed like a good deal to me it doesn't have an engine either don't worry Although I'm really going to click with these good things on the

garage

floor here, I'm never going to put them in the back of an old square body big block suburban and

drive

600

miles

, they put the engine in it. Chevelle I hope it works and then I

drive

600 miles home and I have three days to do it because I have to go back to work.

I really don't know what could go wrong here, well I'm loaded and full of fuel. I'm going to hit the road on the big block here and see if we can get this engine to North Dakota, well we had it arrive last night yeah, and the old suburban round is really good, the only complaint I guess is the 348 . million gallons of steel, but that comes with these big blocks, it's Memorial weekend. The beautiful weather makes all those guys and gals who served really appreciate Audie and I'm proud that you move some stuff around here in the yard quickly and then, Go get this Chevelle and take a ride to see what we have and then we have to start to stir.

We only have one day here to get this engine. Put this girl in and see if we can get some fire smoke out of her. Let's look for it here. She is valve 304, door

1966

, I bought this from a nice guy online, he seemed to be very honest and it's actually a pretty simple car. I'm not sure if the hose comes with it or not, but I'll see if we can work with that. the rear cooling option what makes this car worth it is the headliner is really nice so i can give up on all the other stuff but this is the kind of problem we're dealing with because we're missing a few things here, but what I really like is the digital Baka type everywhere else, we just have a cape for the old starter and some stuff for the battery, that's it, and we'll go get the engine here in a second.

I downloaded it last night. I would show them what we have. here is the gun of choice built mainly last night a couple nights before, I guess there are just parts scattered around the

garage

, it is a factory rotating assembly, it was a 383. I put a 350 crank on it since we are going to have a 10 Clutch inches, little 10-bolt rear end and a bit of a three-speed. I don't want a grenade that loses its leg, so basically we have a 355, now it's dirty, it has Molly rings, the heads have been rebuilt, the factory junk heads one ninety-four.

A five valve put some stock springs on it, six hundred Lick Springs and has a custom grind cam from the competition. It's a five by forty five elevator somewhere out there. Why end admission? I cleaned it with a wire brush and if I should use pieces. junk and stuff, the only really new thing we're going to put on this is the clutch. I hope we get a good 15 or 20 sellouts. I really don't think the panic

will

go away, so that's it. We're going to start loading parts and pieces and tools and all that

will

get the car out the driveway on jack stands and I think the plan is to take the transmission out and couple the two on the shop floor and then try to stab .
Well, we pull the transmission out and then realize we don't have any hardware for anything transmission related, including the Constellation steering wheel pivot ball, which Malcolm's guy is here on this one and you've never heard of. We're heading to a guy's house and we're going to get one out of the truck that's outside this house and hope it doesn't come towards us and then we'll come barreling back to the house and serve by putting the thing by the way, this is my brother for us here we see what we need is the clutch pivot ball more than anything okay the new original Duralast Jack Hawk 6000 OAM clutch that will explode in five seconds is on we are putting the starter motor in now because we are lazy and in the design of the car and then we'll speed up three times to put it in, we also stole this fan from that truck we found and this whole kind of car magically came together pretty well, so we're getting pretty. close, this is our setup here, the guy went ahead and lifted it completely off the ground so his belly wouldn't hang so far off the frame that the old cherry picker wouldn't reach far enough, so you know, we don't.
We cut all the corners and did the right thing here and we're going to go ahead and drill our own hole. There's the factory line made in Chris. She made sure that she really wasn't going to go anywhere and take two, let's try it. She got hooked again, but oh, we have a, let's close it so they can do that stuff here, but she's sitting pretty good. We've got like 11D billion of space back here, so okay, go ahead, Beth. feel that thing make sure you're not wearing safety goggles it's a little hot basically cranked the engine out to the max to put the heads on and luckily one of the three sets we had installed so chance is to finish them and your honor in the garage.
It's like 643 degrees and I have the old back waterfall. I'm going to put the end of the distributor on and turn on the carburetor. We're still involved in this carbon tie down when the fuel line is from the back to the front, so I'm going to do the right thing and just run the rubber hose all the way to the front, so I'll give you an update here in a moment. Okay, I'll turn off the best light. Okay, let's go through a final checklist of guy who basically has no gas key, yeah we have him outside so he catches on fire, we decided we're going to put him in my brother's house, he doesn't like three bottles, that's a plan, I think she I'm almost ready to go there, you can see it behind me, it doesn't have too much tape on it and there are a lot of zip ties and gags.
Let's also see what happens. The plan is a typical break and I haven't even started this engine yet. We're going to try to run it for about 20 minutes or so to see if we can keep it cool. Hopefully we'll drive it after that and that will change. Ione, you know, just give it a little boost, hey, it works, wait. Even your garage here is overheating and we heated it about 17 times so it's pretty good, we have about two or three melted plug wires and the really surprising thing is that the Quadrajet carburetor is rubbish, go figure, so we have another one back . here in the garage we're going to try it, if not I'll just put on an Edelbrock, it can be done with them, so now we're going to eat and have some adult beverages and we're going to go for it again, but not days.
We even almost finished and did it, we took it in one day and it moved under its own power, so the transmission works, the clutch works, so everything is fine, my friends are fine, so basically it's the next day, today we do a shakedown and then we'll be on the road and we'll see that it's still getting hot, it's got that little radiator in there for the inline six so it's really struggling to keep this V8 cool. We thought about trying to throw another radiator at it from the truck we have around here. but it's wide and I'm a DFB and there's no other compatible with Creators IV, so let's try to pump it with this one.
I also burned all the wires basically within a foot of the headers, so we have that wiring that started now started accidentally I didn't have my camera with the rig, that was pretty interesting. I'm going to drop the big oil kit, change the oil and then let's give it some more, brother, since I can't put in a different radiator. The plan was to remove these three blades and put this damn thing on the truck. Notice that the drain hole in the water gourd has been steadily getting worse and is leaking, which is a new pump. but we're going to take the pump, do the right thing again and we're going to take the pump out of the engine that's been out for two years outside, pretty sure it worked fine, so we're going to take that one out, take the new one.
Bomb, put that one on and then put the weird truck style fan on it. So I think we'll eventually cross our fingers and be able to feed off of it a little. Yes, look at your hair, you will be a spring of oil that is very hot, there is no metal, it is your head. I don't see any rings coming out, we are trying to fill it with water once again, I installed the new water pump and the different fan setting will hopefully push out a little more air. I put a thermostat back in and set it to 1/16 I'm going to slow the water through the radiator and then we're going to have some fun and see if we can keep it under 300 so hold on tight behind the abdomen area credit which looks pretty good.
Well, I guess we'll give it a little test because, well, it turns out the inline-six radiator just doesn't like to be eaten, we just can't keep it cool when you hit the old gas, we'll pack it up. I'm ready for tonight, I try to save her a little and maybe tomorrow, and the wind blows through my teeth all day and she will stay where she should be, but I'm very happy with that, many thanks to my brother, my cousin or nephew or whatever you are, dance for all the help, get it going, yeah, we'll start the drift here real soon, back home, six letter photo, okay, I'm full of fuel, I've got full oil, I think I'm ready to go.
The plan is to get as far as I can before the engine overheats and locks up. However, I do have a flathead screwdriver and a

vice

, so I have all the tools a man would need to do any repair on the road. I don't carry spare tires because that takes all the fun and risk out of it. Well, we made it about fifty miles and she's running pretty hot and so am I, so I'm going to buy an adult beverage since we're so far in the On the trip, I just washed my hair with some, I made this so the kitchen sink this morning and it will spin around my head, which is really important, we have it, you probably can't see it, but the parts of the sea foam face, those nests that just flow and repeatedly tear apart a soul that in this morning I'm in a hit next to the scene she likes the factory now but that kind of profit let's eat falling here the original owner I came today with her car I can't remember it off the top of my head from a psycho Sara or something, but I have You have to give it a last name, so it's going to be a Sura hantavirus, Julia 66 hantavirus and it smells like a tent full of death, so it's raining, they're just another trick that I've learned over the years that if you have an engine that it gets a little hot, yeah I noticed mine runs a lot cooler, if you just stop looking at the temperature gauge, just hang your arm around the window and say, yeah, good.
Enough, hey, I'm actually alive, just got back to Minnesota, 600 miles, she did it before my eyes. I don't really know, actually, you can probably see it there, so much exhaust went up, you know, all the way and all I can smell is. My skirts and my ears are just ringing from the headers, but overall good, the engine drank about three hundred and forty eight point six gallons of water from all the rain, but it definitely kept it cool, which is a plus, but I'm very happy for Putting together a garage sale small block hoping that 600 miles early, the repeater wouldn't blow up.
I thought for sure the transmission would be a grenade, but she lifted even the electronics. I had the digital headlights make it work and overall I'm pretty satisfied. figure out what to do with it maybe a turbo or six speed or something pushed it back to the old tree line and we hold on to it for a moment and see if we can do something more good, that's all on virus 66 We made it at home thanks for watching, we'll let you know next time.
