12" Macbook Review - One month with one hole

Jun 05, 2021
Hello, how are you doing? I'm Dave 2d and this is my

review

of the 12-inch MacBook. When it first came out, I used it for about a week and started doing my

review

, but then I realized that wasn't enough. It's time to give this a proper review just because it was a new type of device so I use it for a longer time. I use it for about a

month

and here is my one

month

review with a

hole

for 12 inch MacBook. Review just a quick unboxing here. $1300 base model space gray eight gigs of RAM and 256 gigs of storage under the laptop there is a packet of brochures AC adapter on a USB see the male to male cable inside the packet of brochures there are some cool stickers with the logo Apple, they're not white.

They're not black, they're great. The size of the machine is something that is immediately noticeable. It's really thin and light, and it seriously makes the 13-inch MacBook Air feel a little clunky and heavy. This thing is so small that it fits comfortably in the slot of my backpack that was originally designed for our tablets when I use the new

macbook

in the car, I immediately realize that I can type on it without adjusting the seat back, but make everything being small squeezes some things, the keyboard itself is not narrow, but because it takes up less space, you have to put your legs together to hold it on your lap and I also found that I was always a little more hunched over when using this laptop compared to even a 13-inch MacBook Air.

Although Apple's marketing touted the new butterfly mechanism on the keyboard, I don't love it, the keystrokes feel spongy and the travel feels shorter than I'm used to and I also prefer my up arrow to be placed on top of the left and right keys. I'm not sure why they decided to suddenly change the function keys and these skating keys are also located a little differently than the way they were on basically every other Mac keyboard. Here's a 13-inch MacBook Air keyboard. Notice the arrow keys and the function keys like this way here is a 15 inch MacBook Pro keyword again notice the directional keys and the function keys the same and this is the Apple wireless keyboard directional keys directional keys function and it's not just the design these three keyboards feel almost identical when you're typing on them, in fact, every keyboard made by Apple since the unibody z' of 2008 has been almost identical in design and mechanics until this 12-inch Mac .

Now I understand that they had to change the mechanism to make it thinner and lighter, but they also changed the layout and I actually got used to it and the individually backlit keys are great, but even after a month of using this, I definitely prefer the old style , the more tactile keyboards, the trackpad is a different story. I really like it. forcing the touch trackpad the more I use it the more I like it and it doesn't really change the user experience much but the technology is cool and I like how it picks up clicks when I just click anywhere on the trackpad and yeah it just Like the 13-inch MacBook Pro, you can click super fast.

In fact, I think this trackpad is the most distinctive feature of this laptop, so the closest competitor to this MacBook is probably the quad HD version of the Asus ux305, which starts at around a thousand dollars. it has very similar specs to the

macbook

, but if you've seen my review of the base model ux305, that device has a pretty average trackpad and for me the four star trackpad really separates the macbook from the competition, it's just a trackpad, but it is an excellent trackpad. Now it makes a big difference to the user experience whether or not this trackpad is worth the $300 price difference that is up for debate.
I'm pretty sure you already know this thing has the legendary single port. Having a single port makes up the exterior design of this laptop. super clean on one side you have two small microphones and a headphone jack and that's it, there is nothing else on this laptop apart from that solitary use B 3.1 charging port and all types of wired data connection must be done via from that port, the 29 watt charger. It's quite small and takes about two and a half hours to charge from empty to full and on a random note, the USB C male to male charging cable that comes with it smells terrible.
I mean, it's the first Apple product I've owned. I once had something that smelled like really cheap rubber and it's disgusting. I also tried using a standard battery to charge the place and if you keep the lid closed it will charge the macbook very slowly, it took almost five hours but it's great to be on. Being able to use a portable battery to charge a laptop using the port for work or school is a bit of a pain if you use SD cards frequently, such as if you are a photographer, or if you have audio recordings of lectures on an SD card.
I really would. I do not recommend buying this MacBook. The hassle you have to deal with with adapters and dongles will really bother you over time. The same goes for USB drives, although you will learn how to plug and unplug these things, it's annoying and if you forget your dongle. at home or worse, if you lose an $80.00 dongle like I did, you're broke and can't connect your devices at all, but at the end of the day, if you force yourself to only use this port for work or school you'll get used to it and you'll get by, so I force myself to use this notebook exclusively at work during the month.
It's comfortable on the lot because it's very light, but as I mentioned before, you can't sit on it with super legs. far apart when using it in your lab I don't love the keyboard but it's good enough that I can type comfortably all day and the battery life is about eight hours for regular web use if you need a mouse for work or play at work, ports are pretty rare here, so you'll want to get one with Bluetooth. The 480p webcam on top is terrible, but I never used it other than to laugh at how bad it was.
The screen is wonderful, with a super high resolution for a 12-inch screen. At 2304 by 1440 colors, the pop viewing angles are great and, if you care, a spider sets it at 75% of the Adobe RGB color space, but overall it's a really excellent display. The drive speeds are pretty fast, around 450 for the right and a little over 750 for the Reed, having drive speeds like this I thought maybe the five watt core and processor might have issues with edits. 4k video, but it can't, the playback is choppy and adding too many things makes it basically unusable. Rendering a 10 minute 4k video took two hours, I mean, I shouldn't have even tried, but I really wanted to know how slow it would really be now.
Editing 1080p video is a different story, it's still a little slow but it can be used for scrolling and playback isn't bad but a 10 minute clip with no, Luntz took 52 minutes to render and just for reference, A base model 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro takes about 25 minutes, not ideal, but very useful if you need to edit 1080p video. I also took some thermals while doing the renders. The 12-inch MacBook is on the right, the 13-inch MacBook Air is on the left, and remember that this 12-inch MacBook is fanless, so it's quiet and runs 5 to 6 degrees cooler than the MacBook Air.
I came across a movie called free to play, which is a documentary about professional Dota players competing for that million dollar prize last year. I started watching it just as a battery life test, but I got totally stuck, but in any case I got about seven and a half hours of battery life. videos off disk and this is with the screen at maximum brightness and volume at about a quarter and similar to asus ux305 games do not run as well on Core M processors. I got between 35 and 40 frames per second in csgo with everything turned off and on dota 2 on Heroes and all at low level you get around 30 frames per second when online and it drops to around 20 frames per second in team fights, it's somewhat playable but your team will hate you so I would just do it.
I do not recommend it, the battery life while gaming is about three and a half hours and this is the screen with the maximum brightness volume at a quarter again. The last thing I want to talk about is the speakers. These speakers are one of the best laptop speakers I know of. I've ever heard better than the 15-inch Retina, and from what I remember, even better than the 2011 17-inch MacBook, that's how they sound. After that first week of using this device, I was still really in love with the idea. It means it has a great screen, great speakers, a really cool form factor and it comes in space, great, there are a lot of things to love and it's easy to fall in love with that new Apple product, but after using it for a month, the small peculiarities increase. to the surface, so individually they are not a big deal, like the forty P webcam and you can live with it, the single port as I showed you is something you get used to, you adapt to it and it is what you can live with. that the combined braking pad, I mean, I don't love that they took it away from their old stuff, but it's something you get used to and you live with it and the price of thirteen hundred dollars is not the best deal in the world. but this is the price you have to pay for top tier Apple products, so individually all of these things you can live with, but when you combine them you think I should be in love with the product I paid $1,300 for.
I love it, you shouldn't feel like you have to make sacrifices to enjoy it and I don't love it, so I think the next version of this device, like the one coming out next year, will be faster and probably cheaper. There might even be one or two more ports and there will be more USB C devices at that time, so that's probably where the money is, so if you're on the fence I'd wait for that one, that's the end of the review. I hope you liked it if you gave me some of these if you didn't you gave me some of these and if you loved it give me some subs it's good I'll see you next time and here's my first month with a full review of the 12 inch macbook oh god mine
