10 Shaker Card Hacks You Should Try!
everyone its Justine and welcome to a
new video today I'm continuing with my April collaboration this time with
crafty not shifty aka Laura and she we are going through some of our favorite
shaker
card
hacks
since we both loveshaker
card
s so I'm starting off withshaker
pouches now this is the first newcard
that I'm creating in this video and this is going to be using the my favorite thingsshaker
pouches they come separately in packs where you can buy these plastic sheets alreadymade and they have coordinating dies as well that fit
perfectly around them there's all sorts of shapes from clouds stars martini
glasses gift
card
holders as well rectangles circles all sorts of things and they come in a variety of depths too so if you ever wanted to do let's say a candy pouch or something that would work too they even have one for lip gloss so I'll link to all those below in the video description or a link to the general page where you can find them all ifyou're interested and then went ahead
and I cut the largest rectangle from the set this is the set that is supposed to
go with the
shaker
pouch itself and I'm saving the middle so that I can die-cut the sentiment from it and this frame now fits perfectly around the plastic I'm going to grab some of this adhesive from scrapbook comm this is 2 inch adhesive and I'm going to put it on the back here and just trim it a bit and the reason why I'm doing that is the sentiment I'mgoing to be die-cutting from my favorite
things is very very fine and I don't want to have to worry about gluing that
with liquid glue because that would be a pain in the butt so I'm going to be
die-cutting this birthday sentiment from my favorite things that's also fairly
new and I do I cut that with my Gemini junior die-cutting machine and now I can
simply just peel it right off my paper and it's got the adhesive already on it
so I am going to be putting this just directly on
the front of my
shaker
pouch because why not and you know you can add things on the inside of your inside of theshaker
pouch on the outside of theshaker
pouch just want to make sure you want the sequins covering it or the beads covering the sentiment or do not want that and that's going to determine whether you put it on the inside or the outside of theshaker
pouch now let me tell you this adhesive that I'm using from scrapbook comm is sticky it's crazy sticky and you know it isreally just great I know it's gonna hold
on there with no issues whatsoever and it comes in a variety of sizes from four
inches to I think one eighth of an inch and I have I think all of them now and
I've been using them so much lately and I absolutely adore them they're often on
sale as well so I'm gonna link to all the sizes below in the video description
now I'm just slowly peeling away the wishes and I'm going to stick it on the
front of the
shaker
pouch window anddon't forget the little eyes for the top
of the eyes in birthday and wishes because that just really just adds that
fine detail so now I'm going to set that off to the side I'm going to create
myself a nice colorful background here using some Catherine Pooler dies I'm
using my blending brushes here you see how great of an impression I get with
the inks how smooth and how I don't get any harsh lines and I've been obsessed
with these I have a whole video on them if
you're interested I'll link to that
below in the video description also okay I need to stop saying that because
that's getting annoying and but anyway any information you have
is below and any information you need is below so if you ever are looking for
anything it's down there so I'm just going to go ahead and create a nice
blend between a bunch of different colors here I think these purp these
colors here are perfect for going along with a silver that I have for the
frame
and birthday wishes as well I think the silvers gonna really look nice against
that orange and pink color so I have my
card
base ready four and a quarter by five and a half folded it in half of course and then I'm going to put this panel here over top now it's a little bit smaller but it doesn't matter because my frame is going to be covering it anyway I'm now going to go ahead and I'm going to use this beautiful mixture of butterfly sequins from Ellen Hutson it has abunch of regular sequins flowers and butterflies and it just so
happened that I grabbed this out of my sequin thing because my sequin organizer
because all the colors seemed to coordinate perfectly with my background
I didn't even plan that how awesome is that and it's perfect it's got those
summer colors summer sequins and they're all ready to go so I'm going to add some
liquid to the back of this I find this the best to use the liquid adhesive
gives you a chance to kind of
shimmy it into place to if need be and I'm going
to glue that directly on to the
card
base and then I'm going to add the frame over top now I'm going along with my thumb and just really pushing that down there I don't want any chance of this the glue lifting and some sequins getting under there or anything like that in fact once I add the frame I'm going to take a little bit to move it as well so I'm just going to turn the sound on for a brief portion so that you can hearthe
shaker
actually moving as well as the background to the TV show that I'm touching right now as I catch up on Game of Thrones while filming so that's the end of the firstcard
now for the rest I'm going to show you other techniques like this one is foam sheets but I'm actually grabbing footage from older videos so I will link to those below in the video description and for each one of these I'm just going to show a portion of theshaker
card
that is important so you cansee here
I've die-cut this trick or treat' frame I've added some acetate behind it and
now I have a piece of foam and this is obviously a very intricate die and I
wasn't too sure what to do with it so what you can do actually instead of
putting together all sorts of foam tape or using a
shaker
pouch is you can die-cut this using foam and you can see here that I have the super thick piece of foam all ready to go and I actually cut this down because this specific die didn'tactually cut the inside out but of course you're
going to want to save this more for dies or it's going to do that so this is
perfect for example if you're doing a
shaker
card
where you're cutting out a word you could use the negative part of the foam to have the frame around the word so you don't have to do all those intricate foam tape placement and things like that but are the sort of traditional ways of doing acard
but this is a great way to have a foamcard
or a framearound your
card
rather for theshaker
bits that is really affordable as well as very versatile and you're never going to get that chance of your beads or your sequins or anything like that falling out the next one I have is how do you get multiple colors for example on acard
so let's move into this beautifulcard
that I created from Ellen hi Ellen Hudson's hand dies and we're gonna use these dies here for my our frames so the first thing I did was I cut out my front panel so Ihave all my die cuts already here lined up all good to go and I had six
hands and what I wanted was all sorts of different colors to kind of represent
all sorts of different people working together I then went ahead and traced
those hands on to my
card
anothercard
panel that I was going to be adding the backgrounds to and I have full video tutorials of all of these as well I'm just going through the very basics of it and then went ahead and laid down some color on top of each of the framesjust to give it a little bit of a more
colorful background and something that's very vibrant I then went ahead and I
actually started to paper piece or two piece pieces of foam tape around each
one of the frames being very careful to ensure that I was not going on top of
any of my pencil lines where I would end up seeing the tape so you can go ahead
and make your own sort of custom frames like this like the way I did but it does
take obviously a little bit of work and some patience in order
to get it done
and I use some 3m foam tape for this I find it easy to tear easy to work with
and easy to take the backings out off and you really want to make sure you're
choosing tape that really works well for you and that you don't struggle with it
all another thing you want to make sure is that you actually cover all the
pieces of the area so none of your
card
stock sags the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and add all of those different seeds and everythingto my
card
s I'm using a variety of jewels from pretty pink posh which are perfect because they make a lot of noise when they shake and they make it just extra fun then I went ahead and peeled off all the backings of all of this and just placed the front back on with all the acetate already on there so remember there is a layer of acetate between the beads and the hands that are die-cut and here's a look at that finalcard
here I think this is such a greatcard
the next one is unusualwindow so just so you know
you don't have to use things like a traditional circle or a suggest
traditional square or acid traditional rectangle and I realized I probably
should
have put this before the hand video because you just saw this technique in the hand video as well but I did want to show off thiscard
because it is my number one ultimate favoritecard
of all time so I went ahead and I die-cut three of these butterflies and they're a beautiful butterfly die from Concord and ninthand I'm making a number 10
card
which is a bit of a landscape stylecard
and a long one i pasted three pieces of patterned paper behind my dies to make that a little bit simpler and I went ahead and I did the same thing as I did on my previouscard
and I went and I traced the butterflies onto thecard
so I knew where they were gonna be and then went ahead and made my frames just like I did in the previouscard
with three different kinds of seeds now don't forget you could do colors youcould do seeds you can do sequins you
could do glitter inside these you can do candy or paper confetti whatever you
want in that your
shaker
it really doesn't matter the only thing you have to remember is to put acetate behind those butterflies because for some reason I always forget to put the acetate and then I have windows that don't have any glass and the beads just gonna fall out and it's crazy so anyway I put those down and then they acetates there it sits I already put iton
off-screen and it shakes so nicely but what I thought would be cool was adding
that die cut back on top and that's what I wanted to show you that was a little
bit different than the previous video so I went ahead and I added those
butterflies and I only glued the body of them so that the wings popped up this is
seriously the best
card
ever I absolutely adore it someone very special got thiscard
now for my last technique I wanted to talk about how you can actually step up yourshaker
card
s a little bit and that's embossing on the windows so I am using heat-resistant acetate as well as a Merry Christmas stamp for Mama elephant and I put the acetate inside my Misti now you can see how old this video is I'm using a whole different craft mat and probably in the different countries I'm creating this and I add my stamp here right on top of the acetate and using my magnet to help keep things down and for thiscard
here it's so important again heat-resistant acetatenot all acetate can handle heat embossing and you can do this on top of
vellum on top of you know acetate whatever you want and then I just peeled
this off it obviously was going to come up with the clear thing there and then
acetate and then I just stamped it using some Versamark ink onto the panel itself
I kept that tissue behind the window because I wanted to be able to see a
little bit better what I was doing and I then at color it embossing tape what is
super imperative here is that
you're using an embossing bag I didn't own one
at the time so it was a little bit messy and so when you cover it it
should
n't be staticky because you've used that embossing pay bag and the static is now gone for me the status the static wasn't gone and I had to use a dry brush in order to get it off just try and use minimal heat on the acetate heat up your heat gun as long as possible before putting it directly to the acetate so it melts quickly embossing powder will meltquicker on acetate than it will on paper
because it heats up more so you don't have to keep it on there long so that's
the end of this video as well you can see that in the final product don't
forget to check out Laura's video for some more
