Zeldin on why he believes Barr will not resign over Trump's tweets

Feb 20, 2020
Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin, he's a congressman from here in New York, it's a pleasure to see you, it's a pleasure to see you, so it seems to me that you know Washington well, these leaks don't happen accidentally. First, you had Bill Barr about a week ago on camera to record. with ABC saying this, all these

tweets

are making my job impossible, now these anonymous reports that people close to him are telling the White House that he might

resign

, he may not

resign

, but it seems to me that he is sending a signal to the President, please stop, that's true.

I'm skeptical when I see these anonymous reports like what we saw last night about the attorney general resigning and the Department of Justice very quickly rejecting that for the Attorney General, there's a big burden on his shoulders and there's big expectations among the American public. among the president, among the president's supporters, tens of millions of Americans who previously in a late segment, when you talk about a two-tier justice system, it mentioned that Andy McCabe was released and then seven to nine years of a sentencing recommendation regarding Roger Stone, so while Durham is completing his work, yes, John Durham, the best, people want to see that the origins of Trump's collusion with Russia deceive that there

will

be accountability for the abuse of FISA that took place and you know it's a responsibility on his shoulders and maybe you know he doesn't want the other president to talk, but he, the president, the president

will

tweet, the president is frustrated, he is demanding with his own high expectations, is demanding transparency and accountability, you are right that people are frustrated by the idea that there are two tears of justice but on the other hand, it is not Bill Barr, who is the president's own candidate, by the way, this is not an enemy yours, aren't you saying that it's harder to get justice in cases that have collapsed? the Comey cases and the rest if the president even if he is not interfering if it appears that he is interfering you mentioned Roger Stone Bill Barr says he had already determined that he thought seven to nine years was too long a sentence, but once the president started by tweeting it seemed like it was pressure from the president, not a standalone bill, Barr, yeah, I mean, if there's a particular statement, a feeling that the president has where he feels like he should or could give the Attorney General some space, you know, maybe. will take that and consider eight, but the president is not going to stay silent after years of this cloud that basically the Department of Justice and the FBI put up for almost his entire term, so I think it's at this point that the Attorney General can I want the President to give him a lot of space.

It is really the President who speaks not only on his behalf, but on behalf of an entire country. That is, those who see misconduct know that laws and administrative procedures were violated, they read. IG Horowitz as a report so they want answers they want accountability they want answers and they want accountability they want it done now I mean they don't want people to be tired of waiting mm-hmm this is long overdue they don't want to know that in At some point in the future there may be accountability, but once people get it right now one of the questions going forward might be whether Bill Barr is the right person to get to the bottom of all of this.

Mitch McConnell Lindsey Graham clearly

believes

he is them. issue this statement in the midst of this, the nation is fortunate that President Trump chose such a strong and selfless public servant to lead the Department of Justice. We hope that, as always, efforts to intimidate the Attorney General will be woefully insufficient. They're talking about the Out letter, mostly liberals, but some Republicans who have been saying they used to work at the Justice Department are frustrated, but the question is: Aren't Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham also telling the president that Is this guy a good independent man? Make sure I'm not leaving.

I think the president agrees that Attorney General Barr is a good man. I think Attorney General Barr is someone who is in a great position. He has taken the reins of the Department of Justice and is in a position to drain. the morass within the Justice Department allowed him to do that. I think the president is there. I don't think he's trying to intimidate the prairie general. I think the president is speaking his mind, but you know, kudos to Attorney General Barr. It made 2,000 people expose themselves out of the morass of people who apparently don't have much of a problem with, you know, Annie McCabe walking free and some of these other guys escaping justice, but they have a problem with, you know, in one case from Roger. someone robbed who had guns somehow CNN reported this story, yes a fourth person in the case who was an anti-Trump person who called him president of the Klan and then recommended seven to nine years in the Sentencing Guidelines instead of about three to four, which is what it should have been named, okay, people got excited in the last fifteen seconds that we had.
Do you think Bill Bart is going to resign or not? I don't think so and I think I think he likes his work. I think he supports the president. I think he supports his mission, he knows what he needs to do and I hope he does it, we have understood it, we appreciate it, a cockman could say.
