wheels

were

chrome

They called us to try to save them. I don't like doing chrome, but we're going to try to do what we can to help these guys. They are one of my big accounts. We put a lot of

powder

coating

on them, so let's take a look at these wheels and see where we are before we clean them. primed and coated so let's take a look, so we remove the tires, sensors, valves, center cap, here you can already see it's chipping around the edge, you can see the polishing marks, some major corrosion pitting here, so you could actually see the different layers of copper and nickel.

Unfortunately, these wheels today simply do not have the chrome plating process that they used to have. It's super thin, it's not durable. You can see they scraped the wheel, but it's still super hard. just get a top coat to adhere to that without an etching primer or something to grab the wheel and grab the paint, so let's hose these bad boys down and see how bad they really are. He coated these, it's hard to tell because it's all still wet, but he didn't do a bad job with the actual finishing part. It has a little orange peel here and there, but for painting, I'm pretty sure they're fine.

I may have taken them to your store, but a lot of times I make them in the trailer, so I didn't prepare them properly. You can see they're all chipped here, so they're not horrible, but again with the chrome, especially once it's peeling. I don't recommend touching them, it's not worth the headache, these guys are a very good dealership of ours, we're going to go ahead and take care of them, so we're going to put them in the strip tank and get that black paint off. try to clean them a little we will bloom with sand and you will scratch them so follow us as we try to knock out these bad boys here this is what we got from this strip tank and this is why you run away from peeling chrome.

Don't run away, we've got it all set up, they did a good job here where they sanded down the chipped chrome, but back here it's peeling everywhere and they have sharp edges and it's just a mess, so now we have to grab our grinder, We're going to clean up some of these areas that are flaking so they're a little smoother. Here you can see the hard edges and what will happen is they will continue to lift up and take the dust with it. We do the best we can, we are going to grind everything, try to smooth everything out.
I don't know why, but this paint didn't peel off very well in our green solution, so it should peel off. I've degassed it quite a bit, so I should blow it up. Look, I just took off my glove, it's super sharp. Be careful, it may catch you, but we're going to try to grind some of that down now, so we have a lot of peeling. things smoothed out a little bit, you see the edge there, I'm going to get something a little more aggressive to knock down some of that on these edges here, um, but we're going to keep working on this basically, you just have to literally keep polishing it and then we'll get it into sandblast the machine and we'll clean it all up and show you what it looks like afterwards, but you can see all this bubbling that's all dust or chrome that's going to show up sooner or later because there's already penetration, there's corrosion on whatever. there lifting it up, so we have to keep working on it, put it down, we're going to have quite a bit of time on these wheels, so okay, so we bring out the big gun here, the grinder, I don't like to do that. because it's aggressive, uh, but we got it smoothed out pretty good, so that's what you're looking for, you don't want to see any hard edges where it can lift up or anything like that, and then we go in and try to clean it up.
We raised this lip as best we could. I have to do a little bit more there, but then we'll put them in the sandblaster and that should clean up the rest of the edge, hopefully when we're sandblasting it doesn't. lift more if so we'll have to smooth it out a little more um I'm not too worried about this part here mainly where the bill for air sits but yeah this sucks don't do this from chrome so So So very okay guys, we put the fan on the wheels, we cool them down, they just came out of the oven.
As you saw, we put the hot primer on to make sure we filled in some of the smaller indentations and cracks, as long as some of the grind marks on the back you can still see some of them, but they're not as prominent as they were on some moment, it doesn't matter the texture there, that's what happens when you jump the flock and then pass the spray because it's already cooled. going down you get that rough texture, which is what you don't want to do and you want to avoid that, but we're going to sand this all by hand to smooth it all out and then we're going to sand or smooth it by hand. rear to try to make everything look better because when we put them in gloss black, all of that will show up if we don't take care of it, so like I said, we're going to spend a lot of time with these wheels.
The store knew we were going to spend a lot of time with them, they were willing to pay for it because they want to make their customer happy, so that's what we do, we go the extra mile like always, hit that like button, hit that notification , but we're going to cut this series right here because this video is already getting really long, but we'll pick it up next Wednesday, so you'll want to make sure you hit that notification button so you can see when we post.
