Will THIS Charge My Tesla?

Feb 27, 2020
Zero miles left. I'm on the side of the highway. The charging station is four miles away. This thing costs about sixteen hundred dollars just for the battery pack. I've never seen it done before, so we'll try it if you remember a few months ago we made a video that was a gas can for a Tesla. This is the anchor power plant. I'm going to paste

this

here coming in. Oh, there is no fault in the charging cable. Gasoline cars win when it comes to the gas can. Why not? There is no such thing, thanks to you, you gave me a lot of comments.

Get a bigger and better battery than the small anchor I had before to see if it would work. We needed the cable to be grounded and that was one. of the problems why it wouldn't work, so I'll fix those two things and try to see if it works. I have

this

target zero yeti 14,000 lithium, this thing

will

charge

with the sun and then I can take that

charge

and hopefully plug it into your

tesla

. I've never seen it done before, so we'll try it. Hopefully this

will

be the backup generator we need because we have a

tesla

roadster, we have two x models.

More Interesting Facts About,

will this charge my tesla...

We are an all-electric family and you can't just go to the gas station when there is an emergency. If it works, we'll see how many miles we can go on this thing. It's very heavy. It weighs about 50 pounds. It better work. 21 charge, let's fill it up a little bit more, I want to take this to 100 and then as far as grounding the outlet, I'll show you what I'm going to do for that, okay, she's charging, it took about 15 hours to plug it in 21 to 100 to a normal outlet, so this thing has quite a few batteries inside.

This is the component that I think will make everything work. Let's go out and set this up and I'll do it. I show you why I have this. Well, the first thing is to change this. It's like your regular outlet. This loading is very slow. If we plug it into the wall, it will charge. It will only take about a night or a day. to load last time you guys helped us in the comments and told us what the problem really was, this little piece of metal here wasn't grounded, there's a hole here, but there's no metal there, there's nothing, so I paid an electrician to come and make me this little gadget and supposedly this will help us fix it.

The inside of this box is something that is grounded so hopefully it will trick the Tesla into thinking it has the correct connection then it will take the charge and if this doesn't work then it's not the grounding problem it's the Tesla software that does not allow variable charging coming from the battery compared to constant speed coming from the wall. I plug this in now that we have our little box. The next step will be to connect this guy to our little contraption. We need to do it. Let's see. I have to press as soon as you press the button.
It will start charging. Let's try it. Let's see if it works. Look at this. This will light up. it's on green if it has power, oh we have green on this, okay, so this is working now. The question is whether the car's software will accept it. I'll turn off the light first, okay, so Leslie is filming right now 194 miles. charge, we'll see the exact moment, hopefully, this will work, so if I come here and press the button, what does Tesla do right since the energy from it is coming? Oh it just turned green this is green this is green and it's pulsing that usually means it means it's working it says it's charging here yeah look it's charging two miles an hour 12 amps that will take many hours to charge but maybe this is the solution this is the solution but the trick will be this little grounding device we have this battery would fit inside the front it is a little heavy it weighs about 50 pounds 1372 watts we have tricked the tesla into charging with a portable battery it is possible to have a gas can solution, I am very curious to see how many miles we can go with this yeti 1400.
I know they make larger models than this one, but I will let this run, let's see how long it takes and how many miles we can really travel. I'm excited we found the solution maybe and as a little disclaimer here I'm not an electrician so maybe if you're going to try this talk to someone who's like an automotive expert before you try it on your car and potentially damage it , I don't know if it will do anything negative to your car. I'm taking a chance because I'm really curious and wanted to see if this would work and you guys gave me some great suggestions, but talk to an expert, okay? a little update for you, this says 195.
We have gained a mile of charging. How much have we lost power on this giant battery pack that took me all night to charge? Look at this, you won't believe it. It is currently at 77. We have lost 23 of our charge to get one mile of energy gained in the Tesla. Wow, it's falling fast too. Look, we just dropped 76 while we were sitting here. I don't think it will take us more than an hour. medium and we will know that this will be at zero and we will see how many miles this Tesla actually gained. Well, we're down to 46 and now if you look and see it's dying, that's it, we've still only won one. mile of cargo, it's only been about 45 minutes here.
I wonder why he stopped. Come on, uh, oh, the light is red here. The air comes out very strongly. I'm wondering if we are working too much on this battery because the air is still being blown out of the fan. it's blowing and the red light is on let's turn it back on and see if it works green blue green okay the watts go up okay the water goes back up okay apparently burning off 50 of the charge that's inside this giant battery. It needs some time to cool down, so let's get back to it. Hopefully we can get at least another mile out of these 18 hours and 15 minutes remaining 196 miles, three miles per hour right now.
Looks good, uh-oh, charging stopped 207 at least we've gained two miles. Let's find out why charging was interrupted. I'm just letting it run out. This is dropping to nine percent. The output still shows that it is quite strong. Oh, it's loading again. Oh no, he stopped again. Okay, keep charging and stopping yes. There is one thing I learned from owning the tesla roadster is that you don't want your battery to go to zero on the tesla roadster specifically, if it goes to zero you will never be able to drive the car with that battery again. pack, you have to get a battery pack that costs about fifty thousand dollars to replace inside this roadster, but even then Tesla doesn't make those battery packs anymore, so you pretty much just have a brick car and look at this beautiful car, it's nice. but I don't want them to block it, so I think at eight percent we're in a good place where we just go ahead and stop this.
How many miles did that eighteen hundred dollar battery get me? tada 196. We gained a whopping Two miles of extra range with a battery that took me all night to charge. What have I learned from this first? I would say that I don't recommend that you buy a giant battery so you can use it as a gas can for your car. Does it work technically? Yes, is it something that can be used? Probably not. I ran out of charge once when I was 0.4 miles from a supercharger and ended up having to pay 125 to get a tow truck to take me to that point four of a mile, so I know it could be useful in that specific situation, but When you do a 125 cost-benefit analysis for a tow truck, maybe if that happens five times in your entire life as a Tesla owner, it will still be cheaper than buying a behemoth. battery pack and always have it stored and in the front or trunk draining the range of the battery because that's an extra 50 pounds of weight inside your car.
Works. I made it work. I do not recommend it. Don't go buy a bunch. of battery packs to use as a gas can for your car. I have done two experiments. Now it's too much of a hassle. The ground connection wire. You need the expensive battery pack that needs to be charged in your car. It's not worth it, but. I will say it was fun to make this video and do this experiment and hey, now we know and sometimes it's good to learn. I'll be the fool who spends the money and experiments and you guys can enjoy it and watch it.
So now I have a giant battery pack that I've used once and I've reduced it to nine percent if any of you would like to buy me a battery pack for his house for some reason. I'm happy to sell it to you. I'll give it to you at a discount still, uh, just call me. I've never seen it inside a model 3 before. You never have been. What do you think I like about the iPad? The iPad is kind of cool, yeah. That's great
