Justification to prevent these scenarios you are talking about from happening? Eliezer Yudkowsky: I don't think “anything” works. I think this requires state actors and international agreements, and all international agreements, by their very nature, ultimately tend to be backed by force on signatory and non-signatory states, which is a more extreme measure. I'm not suggesting that people should go ahead and use violence, and I think the fatal argument for that is that it won't work. Chris: Well, you're certainly not the only person to suggest that what we need is some kind of international reckoning on how to handle this issue in the future.
