Why Snyder Cut Worked where Josstice League Failed | One v One

Jun 07, 2021
hmm this is pretty rubbish we better get this dostoyevsky thing out of the way yeah this is great in 2017 director joss whedon and a couple of high level executives from warner brothers teamed up to form the justice

league

a comic book team-up movie designed solely to give executives their Christmas bonuses. and josh whedon have the opportunity to forcefully transform the dcu into something more wonderful, tell me, you plead, oh yes, something is definitely bleeding, but in 2021, after a grueling three-year war fought on the battlefields of Twitter, DC fans finally successfully rescued director Zack Snyder's original. version of the film in Snyder Cut form Now, whether Trap Cat lives up to its 3-year buildup is up to you to decide, but regardless of personal opinions, it's definitely an improvement over the

league

of the justice to the point

where

if josh whedon still wants to have a career after this, whatever he does next, it better be something really impressive for one, at least the box cut makes it understandable, since After endless nights of wondering what the heck a mother box is, we now discover that they can rearrange matter. allows them to burn the earth for the dark side and also, similarly, bringing Superman back from the dead would have been pretty useful information in 2017, plus the Snyder cut is also a movie you can watch without having to avoid it. your eyes now, yeah, we probably could have saved some time by using a little less slow motion and we still have more dc cgi monstrosities, but nothing like the monstrosities of a few years ago, I mean, it's a four hour movie, so which there will most likely be hours of individual surface level improvements to point out which I'm not going to do here today because no one on Twitter has been fighting for a loop filament cut yet, but what I thought would be really interesting and useful thing to do is visit my old videos that identify the main core problems I had with Justice League and compare them to Schneider's cut to see if they have been fixed and the answer is that they really have been so the real question is more about the making of That, so today let's compare these two films side by side to see how one far surpassed the other and hopefully learn something about filmmaking in the process.

Let's look at how Justice League's worst flaws made it into Snyder's cuts at the biggest ranges, the first underlying problem with justice. The league was that everything happened superficially, which made everything that happened seem trivial and boring when we first went to fight Steppenwolf, that's what happened and that was it when we went to resurrect Superman, that's what It happened and that was it when we went to fight. Steppenwolf for the second time, this guy still bothers you and the way this hugely damaging negative becomes one of Snyder's most positive cuts is because the blood events no longer happen on their own, there is always something significant happening within those plot events that make them have real and useful weight. for example, when we go to resurrect Superman, not only do we resurrect Superman, but the closer we get to that plot event, the more we get this unsettling feeling that it might not be such a good idea, we need you on board now, we have more doubts.

why snyder cut worked where josstice league failed one v one...

We get from our heroes and the ship, the more glimpses of the potential dark future we see, the more we begin to feel what's at stake, what's about to happen. Resurrecting Superman isn't something we're just going to do, it's something that comes up. as a big deal with real, consequential meaning to build on, take the plot event shortly after

where

Steppenwolf obtains the final Mother Box, which in Justice League just happened off-screen, well, it doesn't just happen this time, this time we get this extended thing. moment within it where cyborg's father takes the mother box before Steppenwolf can obtain it and sacrifices himself to overheat it in a way that our heroes can track it down later in the plot event not only happens trivially at face value, but there is something in it is to give it weight the mother box has the last one has the last one and the same thing is repeated over and over again we always get something significant within the events of the plot so that they are worth something, whether it is having a close moment with the girl we saved from the gunman, whether it's making a real decision to reawaken the last mother box despite that meaning, then she can call the steppenwolf, whether it's taking our own father to safety, everything that happens It has a meaning beyond what happens, but it is the best example to really insist. the difference comes in a final battle plot with Steppenwolf, whereas in Justice League we simply took the mother boxes and separated them from each other.

This time, Cyborg first has to latch onto the mother boxes and finally come to terms with the actions of his father and himself. the robotic being he is now we can give him back vic make you whole again I'm not broken I was in the justice league we just went in and beat Steppenwolf to achieve victory this time at first we didn't achieve victory at all it's okay I just have to go faster than the speed of light much further than the speed of light if I can't give a personal opinion here. The moment where Flash harnesses the speed force and runs so fast that he can go back in time a couple of seconds.
why snyder cut worked where josstice league failed one v one
I was jumping in my seat for me it's definitely the most powerful moment in the dcu so far and the fact that someone chose to get rid of it gives me chills about what else we've been missing but opinions aside the most important thing about this moment. is that it means that we don't just show up and achieve victory like the final deck says, we have to go through defeat first to achieve it, as once again the plot event doesn't play out as it is, but rather there is something attached him. That makes it so much more than it is at first glance, and as the trap cut demonstrates, it's a really crucial lesson we all need to learn.
Plotting the plot events is just the beginning, the really significant question is how those plot events play out once you know. What's going on? Then you need to find out what's really going on. The second core problem we just looked for was that it was completely emotionally empty because we weren't given any guiding ideas about what the characters were feeling or why they did what they did. On the hero side, the motivational drive mostly came down to the fact that Batman said, let's do this and then that's what we did. On the villain's side, Steppenwolf was so incomprehensible that it was never clear what he was trying to do with the mother boxes or what for.
The reason why the only thing we knew was that he had some kind of schizophrenia-like childhood that involved a father who doesn't exist. You finally call me at home. Mother is calling you. I see mother. Be a mother. Where is my mother? And the way Snyder's cut fixes it. This problem and makes us feel is by constantly informing us of what the characters feel, for example, a big key to this was the choice to delve into cyborg's backstory, where the basic gist is that he died with his mother in a car accident. and then his absent father saved his life by using the mother box to turn him into a cyborg, the result of which is this toxic hatred that he carries towards himself and especially towards his father, if he were there, mom would still be alive and yet, once his father is kidnapped by the steppenwolf.
Cyborg still, despite everything, chooses to go save him, which shows us how much his father must mean to him and suddenly we're not going to fight Steppenwolf in a dark tunnel just because Batman says so, but because we need to save this person. I have a complicated relationship and I clearly still worry now. What we are doing is emotionally understandable and effective. I wasn't sure you would have come, you are my father and you can even see and feel it in performances like day and night, but. You'll scream, you'll die if you don't, as another example, look at the loss of Superman, while in Justice League that loss was reduced to a quick opening montage that Joss Whedon apparently evilly created to promote his own false political agenda.
Here we have to really experience that loss through Lois Lane, we see her visit the Superman monument every morning, we see her cry alone at home unable to move on throughout the entire movie, we have all these emotional beats that make us feel the pain What she feels for not having been there. I've been working since Clark died and then once Superman is finally resurrected through Lois Lane, that sadness turns to joy, but if we're not shown that it's always there, we won't feel it and we won't care, he said that you you were the thirstiest young woman I've ever met, hungry, and you can find the same thing repeating over and over these bigger and smaller emotional beats that led us to what the characters think and feel, whether it's a choice, a line of dialogue or just a simple look. during their lives, I stayed with your lying mother, your son was one of them, dad, one of the best of the best, but I really see the difference, look at the villain's side, while in the justice league our only idea about Steppenwolf was the verbal exposition given by others that he basically wanted to destroy the Earth because he is an entitled teenager.
Here we finally understand that he has no interest in Earth and that the only thing he really cares about is getting up from the gutter. Let me make a plea to you. He that I can return home after taking this world in his name, he will hear your plea when you pay your debt. Look, I'm not saying we're going to Thanos levels here, but at least now we can see Steppenwolf as more than just a dc cgi monstrosity trying to destroy the earth because that's what dc dj monstrosities do. He is someone with an unwavering obsession with returning home no matter the cost, something we can understand and relate to emotionally and that is another very crucial lesson we must learn if we want the audience to feel and care, the way to do that is to let them know what feel and care about your characters, it's not about how much time you have, but how you use it.
Justice had 2 hours and yet decided to spend that. Time focuses not on our main hero's father-son relationship, but on this random, unnamed Russian family that now, with something to compare it to, was clearly not the right choice. He will be here. Alfred. I know. What makes you so sure. Alpha faith. Finally, the next big central problem with Justice League was that director Joss Whedon's signature goofy tone went completely against the film's characters and also spit in the face of everything that came before, e.g. problem with previous films like BBS was that we often deviate from what we were doing to set up something to do in the future, not really ideal but if that is the price to pay so that one day we can get this fine but then The Justice League arrives and breaks all that lost time. out of existence, the dark dystopian future disappeared, the eerily sinister macguffins were replaced by meaningless boxes that we first learned about in a way that makes no sense, even the parademons went from being a real threat to a straight-up joke because Every time they did something, the movie just cut, the intention was clearly to build rather than destroy, for example, the movie begins with the death of Superman in BBS, which is used as a very effective base to set up Steppenwolf's boxes and Mother as something truly sinister.
Overall, this movie feels like a consequential next step from what has happened before in a way that also validates what has happened before we get closer to that bleak future where Superman has been flipped. We get a full flash moment going back in time. We get a proper clue towards something. Darker we even get an extended scene in the dystopian future where we live in a society so disordered that Batman and Joker are forced to work together. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. then on the other hand the pretarsley joss whedon style of comedy is a real poison to the established dc tone and the characters the main villain becomes a dumb fool who has to have a one-liner for everything regardless whether it makes any sense. and as heroes, almost every single one of them is degraded just because joss whedon just has to recycle his super funny and self aware marvel comedy and i don't really even want to say marvel comedy because marvel has far surpassed joss whedon just marijuana in comedy and whether you love or hate zack

as a filmmaker, at least he knows how to be respectful of these characters in terms of how they've been established in this universe, maybe wonder woman isn'tshe needs to be saved by a guy who falls on her chest maybe she can land on her feet maybe flash doesn't need to be a useless guy who accomplishes nothing the whole movie this is definitely the one maybe he can be the one to finally save everyone maybe cyborg can be a real person instead of a cgi shell maybe aquaman can be more than just a happy-go-lucky brother maybe bruce wayne doesn't need to forget that his parents and adopted son are dead maybe superman doesn't need to be such a colorful casual joker who never does anything in a really meaningful way too weak to see the truth well i believe in the truth but i'm also a big fan of justice for the dark side not impressed where did that bring you back to me?
This guy is still bothering you right now, I guess. I'm getting away from education and just trashing justice again, but the point is that as a filmmaker you have to build on what has happened before instead of spitting in its face just because you think you have good spit in your mouth if Gal Gadot tells you If you think this boob joke doesn't fit Wonder Woman, then maybe just shut your mouth and listen. There can be color and fun in these movies, as there is here. Everyone says Alfred. I work for him. He's a very tough Alfred, but you can't just come. in someone else's movie and increase the saturation up to one hundred you have to, for example, understand that there is a difference between socializing bruce wayne and on a batman mission a difference that only whedon as director of marvel is unable to maintain because in the mcu There are no secret identities and the characters remain largely the same in and out of their superhero costumes.
Nanotechnology. Do you like it. Stop that box from destroying all life on Earth. Well, I know you didn't bring me back because you liked me. Anyway, I don't. I'm just venting. so there you have some main ways of improved

cut in justice league based on younger filaments videos. It's just the beginning, but I hope this movie is too and the only thing left to do now is to finally let go of the pain of the past and settle down. Our look at the Justice League, part 2.
