What were The Wind Waker’s Missing Dungeons?

Jun 08, 2021
Cut content is one of the most fascinating things to see in any game series, especially The Legend of Zelda, from Ocarina of Times Unicorn Fountain and Triforce to Twilight Princesses Moblin. What's not in a Zelda game is often as interesting as one of the The most infamous Zelda game when it comes to cut content is Wind Waker, a game that was rushed due to time constraints. Our new push to fight the clock towards the end of development. Apologizing in particular for the tedious nature of the Triforce mission to search for the

More Interesting Facts About,

what were the wind waker s missing dungeons...

What would Wind Waker look like if the game was supplemented with two additional dungeons? Let's see it. Wind Waker is my absolute favorite. game in the Zelda series a charming and whimsical adventure on the surface that appears cartoonish both aesthetically and thematically, although built on a stronger foundation of decidedly more adult themes. The story begins on the initial island where Link, a young man without any relationship with any previous hero, lives with his grandmother and sister Errol. They are in peace in the humble house of the quiet fishing village, however, this peace is broken by King Helmerich who snatches Errol from the island and takes her to the abandoned fortress where Ganondorf has begun working on secrets.

The liaison of Errol's capture forces who was suitably dressed in the legendary green robe as is tradition when young boys come of age to set sail with the Pirates embarking on their quest to save her and ultimately decide the fate of Hyrule the Wind. Waker features five main dungeons Dragon Haven Cavern Forbidden Forests Tower of the Gods and Temples of Earth and Wind with the Abandoned Fortress and Ganon's Tower are slightly smaller and less traditional dungeons, but where could they fit? the extra cut dungeons? The most obvious choice for one of the cut dungeons would involve a lot of fish oil and jabu during the game.

Opening act, the game begins with a formula similar to the ocarina of time and a link to the past before Link must gather three elemental artifacts in order to access the Master Sword, first the pendants of power, courage and wisdom, then the kakari emerald goron. Ruby and Sapphire Zoras and finally the spells din Farore and Nayru, the pendants are given to link them after the Eastern Desert Palace, the Palace and the Tower of Hera, and the hero of time is rewarded with the spirit stones after the great dodongo cave of the Deku tree and inside the belly of jabu jabu similarly. the Hero of Victories is rewarded with a Kamali Pearl after completing the Dodongo Cavern and the Pearl of Grooves is awarded by the Great Deku Tree after completing the Forbidden Forest; however, the third Pearl of the Narrows Goddess is awarded for free: Water Spirit Link Joe Boone with no dungeon or challenge awarded after this link, you must complete the Tower of the Gods before you can reach the Master Sword, which raises the total number of dungeons in the first section of the game to three, but it seems strange that the elements of fire and forest are represented with dungeons at the beginning of the game, but water is not the first: pearls are received on islands that match their Elements, Volcanic Dragon Island and Haven Forest, the third Elemental Island would have been a large Fish Island, home to Joe Boone and an invisible colony, but Ganondorf separated it before Link reached it.
The water spirit was somehow able to flee the island before this, hiding in a cave behind the initial island protected by a thick stone wall, meaning Link has to grab the unexpected island's bombs first. Opening a cave, it takes the king of the Red Lions a minute to convince Joe Boone that he senses great courage in Link, after which the fish will grant him the goddess's pearl. The abrupt and seemingly rushed nature of this pearl quest makes many people think that this could have been part of the game from which a dungeon was cut rather than simply giving a link, the goddess pearl could have originally asked for the help of the hero like the other guardian spirits, perhaps a dungeon was found beneath the large ruined fish island where the islands are located.
The inhabitants had fled Ganondorf's rampage and must be rescued. A map found in the tetras' hut hints at the importance of the large fish. It is part of a triangle along with Dragon Roost and Forest Haven which, when combined with the separate island triangle, form the shape of the Triforce with a tower of the gods and Hyrule Castle in the center or perhaps Joe Boone He might be suffering a similar fate to his predecessor Lord Jabu Jabu and be plagued by a parasitic infection whose bond he must heal from within. Joe Boone has some interesting unused assets that hinted at a larger role in the original game, such as an unused swimming animation, meaning it's likely that he originally didn't just appear inside his cave, in addition to this, Joe Boone has two unused voice clips, one of him roaring and laughing and another of him apparently.
Screaming in pain it is unknown what these unused assets would have been used for, but they may have been used in conjunction with a large Fish Isle or Joe Boone themed dungeon that rewarded bonding with Perl neighbors, another game element that was rushed. in the opinions. by Eiji Aonuma was the search mission for the Triforce, it is explained that when the hero of time was sent back to the past, thus creating an alternate timeline, the Triforce of courage he had broke into eight pieces scattered across the earth . By searching for chests at the bottom of the Great Sea that are found using Triforce cards deciphered by Tingle or by locating shrines beneath islands, in my opinion this part of the game is not as horrible as people think, it gives the opportunity to explore completely every detail of the beautiful game world, although I admit that the optimization of the mission in the HD versions made it much smoother anyway, our Numa has gone on record saying that he wishes he had fixed this part of the game and that many things Towards the end of development it was greenlit despite looking unfinished, so some fans believe that instead of searching the seas for the Triforce of Courage, it could have been the reward for an endgame dungeon much like the one.
Link's Grand Palace adventure, where Link must prove his worth and defeat even his own shadow to claim the Triforce piece; However, there is no real evidence to support the idea that a dungeon ever replaced the treasure hunt, other than the fact that al Numa felt that Fet's search was rushed. Another popular theory about the identity of the The Two Missing Dungeons are the mini dungeons in which who obtained the power bracelets and the Iron Boots, the Mountain of Fire and the Island of the Ring of Ice. These two mini dungeons are accessed using the ice and fire arrows respectively, freezing the erupting mountain, or thawing the frozen island that starts a five. minute timer in which the link has to access the dungeon and grab the item, even a five minute timer is a lot of time to overcome these challenges, even Ice Ring Isle which has comparatively a bit more content, can be run in a couple of minutes and Fire Mountain barely takes a minute due to the seemingly rushed nature of these mini-dungeons.
It is often speculated that these were the two dungeons cut and reduced to small timed challenges. It's obvious to see why both are represented on the map as just primary locations. in the game there are key house elements such as dungeons, perhaps at one time these were temples filled with fire and ice with mini bosses guarding the power bracelets and iron boots and full bosses at the end, the game files present an alternative version of mountains of fire. Inside a larger cavern with platforms hanging from chains like in the dragon's refuge cavern, however, the area still feels decidedly like a mini dungeon, as if it were just one big, long, straight room instead of circular.
In the final version, it has a better shape for a dungeon that fits inside. However, it is a small volcano, although the evidence that the ice ring will ever be a complete dungeon ends here. Fire Mountain still has some interesting connections. The mini dungeon is a volcanic peak whose link must be frozen to enter the top and fall into the mountain from above. An island with a similar design exists in Wind Waker concept art. Chimney island. Hearth Island is depicted in a small sketch in the history of Hyrule. Mountain island. Smoke comes out of the cracks and the top.
A small town is built in a natural valley on the slope of the 10 with simple houses built against the rocky face cobblestone streets and a small stream a road from the town turns to the right through a dangerous magma valley to a secret cave in the back and another leads through the town from the top past a hot springs lake and presumably to the top of Wehling Island can enter the fact that we have a piece of concept art for an island similar to Fire Mount in both InDesign as in the entry, makes me wonder if this might have been the original concept for the volcanic summit that an entire city found on the slopes of the active volcano whose interior houses a dungeon, while this would of course have been similar to the Dragon Roost island where the Rito live.
The notes on the artwork detail that this island would have focused on steam and smoke, an interesting counterpart to the fire element that would help it stand out, perhaps involving puzzles with pipes and steam with a more technologically advanced feel. This approach to steam is highlighted not only in the islands called Stovepipe Island, a pipe that moved steam from a stove to a chimney, but also in the artwork. itself, which features small designs for pipe and valve systems, as well as a sketch of an example of the creatures that might have lived here: a squat guy with steam coming out of his head who fascinatingly would have loved tobacco, we can even seeing him smoking something while this island looks like it would have been an incredibly unique addition to Wind Waker.
It has similarities to another dungeon in a series. Twilight Princesses. The Goron Mines. The Goron Mines. The second dungeon of a Twilight princess found within Death Mountain, where the Goron leader, Darbus, has been imprisoned due to the corruption of the fused shadows, the Goron mines not only feature pipes. and valves, as well as hot springs near the dungeon entrance. Their respective race, Gorons bear a strong resemblance to the smoking chimney creature, particularly coromoto, whose back is covered in smoking vents. If Stovepipe Island somehow influenced the Goron Mines, could it have been one of the dungeons cut up by the Wind Wakers that was reused and reworked for the next game in the Twilight Princess series?
Fire Mountain could have been designed very quickly by reusing resources from Dragon Roost. That the cavern will remain in place as a mini-dungeon as deadlines approach is entirely possible, but we'll probably never know for sure. Overall, it's a shame that we'll probably never know what the original plan for Wind Waker looked like, while the games often changed drastically. change during developments with huge parts changing direction or being left out, it's interesting that the developers of Wind Wakers recognized these two missing dungeons in particular. I would love to play the Wind Waker version with its missing dungeons, but in a way we already have the elements reused and redesigned to fit later games in the series, maybe next time you play Twilight Princess Phantom Hourglass or even Skyward Sword, without Knowing this, you are walking through labyrinths that were designed years before to appear in the great sea.
