What Does Half A Million Miles Do To A Car?

Feb 28, 2020
that shouldn't be in my hand dude fubar dude i think they call it tough beyond all recognition look wow hello and welcome back to the channel it's alex it's adam it's me yes i am and

what

we're going to do today adam is take a look at our new high mileage hero this car has 540k

miles

on the clock first impressions please well i dont believe in mileage there are a few things i have already noticed on it i have made a very good eye ten points for me ok ten points no no no no oh come on anyway we should put the car in the air have a proper look and then you gonna give me a quote to tell me how how much would it cost to get this car running properly

what

we can't do is cut off this no's head its really what you do with PD motors they cant be skimmed to begin with so if we find any deviation in the head we cant fix it it will have to be replaced no its just not worth taking apart this time like we did with

miles

because if we do that and then we bust the engine, we're going to put the car in the air anyway, two things to point out, first of all, that all four tires are from Michelin and not cheap tires, which goes to show that to whoever out there had this car you don't mind spending a few quid on it and the second thing you noticed yeah it's weird especially for a car with this mileage I don't think they've ever seen a car here with this more arrive but the five lug covers that you'll see in that same one for all the other wheels and you'll see cars with 10,000 miles on them missing so again someone really care this so we're going to remove all four wheels so we can check the brakes and suspension a little more thoroughly .

I've seen MOT testers advise on corrosion on shop bodywork. I wouldn't say there was really too much wrong. with that we'll put it in the price and the cap will stop it's just starting to peel off so the coil springs this one this side don't have any cracks there's not even enough no paint on that spring to tell it had been Replaced yes I did I question the condition of the rear disc so when we look at them they are actually really good and there is a lot of meat on the pad. Still I bought a beauty income this is a corner we've seen so far suggests cars perfect my track record recently it's been amazing 65

million

boards why you two all of a sudden started appearing all over the video because I want to do less work? something i've also noticed although the pads have a lot of life left in them they've actually started to rust the back in the game so these sand pads on the front are going to be the first thing we'll put on the strap this is the sensor of wear right here and it's not connected it's been taped to the loom right there and attached unfortunately they've done it by cutting the wiring plug so you can't put a sensor back in place that's something we need to look at to rectify thankfully the upper arms are in very good condition as we said the bush is starting to crack very slightly other than this end of the suspension looks very good alex yes adam se It's not supposed to be on my friend we also noticed this back desk is in considerably worse shape than the one on the other side so it's a couple of rear springs and a couple of rear discs and a set of rear pack looks like you bought another fellow winner of nothing why is it adam here we are under jr.

More Interesting Facts About,

what does half a million miles do to a car...

First Impressions Lots of plastic, but what metal there is actually isn't that bad. It's not that bad. Mine. Everything is clean. The cool metal looks like it has a slight bump to the rear. run into it I wouldn't say you've been run over by the Royal Mail or Reno. I'm just going home. This left side of the car is definitely worse than the right side of the car, but that's relatively normal in this country because the left side of the cars is the side of the car that drives through the ditch, so all the salt gets thrown out. towards the left side more than the right side anything this rubber as we found everywhere the brake pipes all still in good condition the subframe hasn't fared as well unfortunately it didn't put anywhere near the same level of protection on the subframe parts bolted together as they did to the main monocoque body but it's not rotten it's just surface corrosion where the protection has come on the original exhaust original exhaust you can see the dent here zero six zero three one thing I'm pretty surprised to see this exhaust clamp right here it's a hose joint that normally corrodes and you'll end up with an exhaust hit yes it's covered it's rusted but not corroded same as the fuel tank strap right here , you can see if you compare that fuel tank strap right there yeah I wouldn't be too surprised to learn that that was a new 2cv boot it's not split it's still in good condition but would get a MOT notice or possibly it would fail because the clips aren't actually doing their job, they just want to draw your attention to this drop link bush that's basically sticking out of the drop link, it's gone, there's nothing underneath. here that I wouldn't expect to see on a car I would say

half

mileage but quarter mileage I saw a car a hundred and I add a thousand miles maybe we should re-register it at a hundred thousand and then sell it for a grand there's a little oil under here again as expected if you look to passenger side of engine yes clean and dry driver side of engine even starter pit was covered in oil at 17 years 500,000 miles on no link there if that makes sense this part of the trim is actually the pipe that delivers the boost from this side of the car to this side of the car so if it rusts you will have a boost leak so look under Car what it needs to be Replaced power drop links, power rear springs, we're still on dis and pads, we had a great time while we're down here checking out the belt which is actually in pretty good condition. well looked out i can tell you now because the service history book is full to bursting with annual entries at 22,500 miles 40 5060 384 105 and so on, then at the 300k mark, service happens every six months and spills into pages extras and in the back of the service book that reminds me of jr. now it's a jewish service so yeah other than the drop link it says next to pull today we'll actually drop it and take a look at the motor now that's useful to you the first thing you'll notice is the a/c condenser It has add a halel at some point as I would say in the trade it's the matt fubar I think they call it beyond recognition yes it's Mullard I'd be surprised if it contains gasoline so that's the engine cover. on the bottom it comes from the EGR we just removed the timing belt cover which is a genuine timing belt and at five hundred and forty thousand miles it is definitely not original so this car has been serviced by dealer yes vouch for the fact that the writing is still there not really faded i would say it was probably within the last twenty thousand miles nice you can see how clean the air filter is from here it is Pretty dirty so I would imagine your last service was probably an interim service and your next one would have an air filter so it probably needs to be changed at some point.
what does half a million miles do to a car
I have the invisible turbo top here where he goes back to his cat the cat is still there which is also amazing the turbo looks very healthy in fact to be great again looking at the top side of the bow and pulleys that tensioner is probably a result of the slight squeak we have if you look down at it you'll see it's offset the tension is failing so tension on wand replaced sometime nice and cheap yeah and not really the dipstick tube is still in one piece looking for any sign of water in the oil we'll just double check the cap to make sure we don't have mayonnaise in there that its looking good you may notice no fuel injectors visible on top of engine no fuel lines visible on top of engine its all done inside the head may i just shot thanks anyway back to the car and Adam gets to work removing the exhaust gas recirculation or EGR valve look it looks so clean as a whistle it's worse than boiling too so we clean it up pour gas in and fire it up so a stuff.

I could tell right away that this seal has been stuck in there for so long that it's not even proud of the EGR mating face, so in an ideal world, if we had a seal on hand, we'd replace it. That lets all the gases come up here and when the vacuum works on this actuator it lifts this shaft up right around where it seals it's not actually mixing but you also have a lot of buildup on the shaft right here and a look of clear section so it's obviously been moving otherwise the buildup would be all the on the shaft when you turn the motor off you apply vacuum here and it pulls that which stops the air going into the motor to make sure it turn off immediately. ready for another 500,000 miles of loyal service, so the final piece of the puzzle is that Adam has hooked up jr. in his box of tricks yes and we have some faults the good news is that the motor has passed so the first front module is the brake module the air conditioner central flat motor no voltage recirculating flat motor no voltage high pressure sensor signal to low for damaged The A/C condenser has let all the gas out, so it must be replaced before the system can run on gas. in front passenger airbag crash sensor front passenger airbag crush sensor open circuit faulty electrical circuit given the condition of the a/c condenser i would say it has been in a front bypass somewhere moment because everything's been pushed back what's probably what's happened is the crash sensors haven't been replaced so we moved on and now there's nothing in there that looks ridiculously drastic other than the airbag ones we'll move on go ahead and we'll do a global cleanup now you'll see when it works to the airbag it will come back with a fault again that airbag light that needs to be fixed remove the light put some tape over it something like that top-2 we know we need find the shock sensor if you clear it all the way and then reactivate the system without the fault being rectified short to ground yes back off you have done a full inspection general thoughts I wouldn't mind giving £500 for this sold car would you? wouldn't it be mine?
Get back to me with a good price and then we'll see how much Junior would really cost to get two really good specs. Again, I will. This is the best aftermarket out there, so we went with Brembo for the brakes. for example i am going to guess now how much i think all these repairs are worth i guess thirteen hundred and sixty pounds which would be six times the value of jr. you're not far off including number plates you'd cost about fifteen hundred and twenty pounds both frontal collision sensors weighed a whopping 123 pounds twenty five each there's a lot to write home about really a lot of life left in the old man still I'll give you that yeah and when you want to turn it into an invoice let me know ok yeah we may not do that let us know what you want to see with jr.
Jack keeps saying truck cab we're not going to talk too much sorry Jack it could be another high mileage hero series we don't know it's up to you guys because obviously we'll cater to you if you like what you see on the channel make sure to subscribe there and to watch more episodes the link is there it usually takes a little time to find the place they are great anyway see you next time bye i am really going this way
