you may have about paint protection film, so let's get to it. We have prepared the car, it is polished, it is clean, it is ready to go. They are removing some parts from the car so we can install this. This is painting. protection film is a physical film that we put on the car paint to protect it from rock chips, scratches, any damage or debris on the road, insect splashes, this is what will protect the paint, it is a different layer, in It is actually a thermoplastic urethane material. with many different layers, it actually comes in a backing layer here and as soon as you remove this backing layer, you have this thing that actually sticks to the car, you have the plastic layer and then you have a top coat layer. top coat layer on this particular film, this is a ejected paint protection film, this layer is self-healing, so that's the big advantage of putting this on your car now that you have this physical barrier that will absorb rock chips and It won't chip paint and it's self healing so if you don't like scratches or swirls you don't have to deal with them anymore, it's very easy to maintain and will look great so once the guys get everything set up and everything parts of the car, we're actually going to install the film on Tesla, okay, the guys are removing the decorative panels, they removed the mirrors and they're going to remove these side markers, they're going to remove some things. the car just to make a better installation now there are a couple different ways you can install the paint protection film one is with a pre cut kit where you just trace the kit and then you can put it so it says this fender here and you .

we answer all your questions about paint protection film...

I'll put the film on and you'll see the edges, you'll go right to the edge of all the panels. It's pretty easy here, it's a lot faster, but what you have are exposed edges that can actually peel off or can collect dirt and wax and stuff and it doesn't look very good, so what we want to do is make the installation easy. invisible, so we're going to take and cut the edges to size. We're going to spread them all out, so we're going to wrap all the edges, we can wrap the edges of the fender, we can wrap the edges on the bottom, where the wheel well is, here, all these trim pieces here, actually, we can wrap it. up and in to get a perfect installation, it looks absolutely invisible and then you don't have those exposed edges, it will just look a lot better, it takes a little longer to do the installation this way, but the quality of the installation is a lot Better yet, they have already seen all the preparation prior to applying the paint protection film.

Now I'll break it down into simple steps, starting with modifying and cutting the kits. There are three main types of installations, from ppf to conventional. route which is bulk installation that's where you take a giant piece of film put it on the car stretch here stretch there mold it to the shape of the car the only drawback is you have to start cutting you have to cut out the shape of the fender, the door or The bumper is a little dangerous just because you can penetrate the film and then cut the car's paint. There is a second way to do it, which is just a normal way, like a kit layout. get a software that will print the car, just type the name, type the year, make and model and then it will print a little template of the actual vehicle that you can take, print it on your plotter, put it on your car. and then that looks fantastic too, the only reason we don't do that is because you don't get wrapped edges, you don't get red corners, you just get a basic, really basic installation, the third way to do it, which I think is the best way is get your software, get a kit and then modify that kit, so once you can start modifying, you can really start extending the edges, the corners, you can add film here, you can add film there, so you can manipulate the movie correctly.
we answer all your questions about paint protection film
You can maneuver around corners, edges, valleys, you could do a lot more doing it this way. The benefits of doing it this way also include that you will have no seams or lines on the edges, you will have almost zero distortion and you get maximum coverage on each panel, so let's get into this, this is the ejection software, it's called dap dap , let's get started, let's see what we can do with this little bad boy, so this is where you can write any car you have. Jason has a 2021. Tesla modeled the model 3, so let's go find it, let's maximize this window and here's the beauty of having software that gives you all the kits, so we have an eight pillar kit, a bumper, a complete hood, an emblem, headlights, interior kits, luggage, we have so many. options we can choose from, from the rear bumper rockers, everything we can think of is here.
That's the beauty of having software like this. I already have safety kits for all my bumpers, fenders and hoods on all the cars we regularly build. it makes sense to just pick it up, modify it, put it away, it saves us a lot of time moving forward, so let's choose a front bumper and then boom, Jason's front bumper shows up here. We're going to modify the fucking shit out of this thing, so we're going to remove all these sensors, we're going to remove the tow hook and then we're going to extend a couple of edges here and there where I know we can get maximum coverage and we're going to wrap these edges, so let's move on.
Let's go ahead and make some magic. So normally people would stop here like this, it looks cool, but here at Chicago Auto Pros we like to be a little crazy and OCD and I'm actually going to go in and even go up one percent higher and start modifying them. corners just because I know I can get more coverage than I think I can, so now that we're done modifying all the kits, I'm going to send it through the plotter. This is a top of the line Graphtec FC9000 plotter. It's fantastic. I'm going to go ahead and send it over and we're going to take a look at cutting out a front bumper, so we gave you a little taste of what happens before we apply ppf.
There are many methods and techniques that other installers like to practice. some good, some bad, let me show you what we like to do here at chicago auto pros, but first, any man's pro tip, the most important thing when installing ppf is the prep work, you need to make sure this paint is perfect, so if you have a few imperfections in the paint, or you want to wet sand them, you want to polish them, you want to correct them, you want this paint to be perfect before you apply that ppf, the reason is because that ppf is going to magnify anything that's already on your painting, how are we going.
Let's say you have a little pinch of dust or a little bit of rock on that film, this will make a little hill on that little imperfection or cause a little drop on that imperfection and your ppf will just increase that by 100. So if your car looks a little ugly right now, once you put that film down it will look three times worse, which is why it's so important to correct the paint, fill in any wet rock chips and any imperfections that are already underneath. your paint so it's perfect before the guys start installing the film, let's talk about how much will this cost, how much will it cost to do it on your vehicle, as we already talked about, there are different types of installation methods that you can do on your vehicle, as well as That, we have different types of films, we have different thicknesses of films and then we have different types of top coats and last but not least, we have different skill levels, the skill level and the passion of the installer who puts the La film on the car will greatly affect the final result of the film and then there is the size, the complexity of the car and how much coverage you will actually get on the vehicle, all of these things will affect what the final price is now that of most the customers we see want the high impact areas done i.e. the full front bumper, fenders, hood and mirror, and we all know cars are different sizes, a Mazda Miata is a very different car to a Ford Raptor.
So if you're going to do these high impact areas with all the variables we just mentioned you can expect to pay between 1400 and 2500. You can reduce that price a little bit by doing a partial kit which is the full front bumper and then we only do half of the hood and half of the fenders, you can save a few hundred dollars there, but then you will have a seam or a line in the middle of the hood and on the fenders you can start adding things like the rocker panels or the rear luggage area or the rear bumper, you can even do the whole car if you're going to do the whole car and the paint protection film, you can expect to pay 6,000 to ten thousand dollars more, so what are we doing here?
Are we removing excess film from the plotter? Once we read through all of this additional film, it's going to show us the traced kit that we just modified, so this right here is the fender. Let's call this girl bad. To check for imperfections, sometimes the film comes and has very small things like pits or small scratches or ideally when we install the film we want it to look like original paint if the film itself is scratched or has small imperfections. Obviously, you're going to see it a lot more once you put it on the paint, so we want to check it right before we install it and then once we know it's perfect, we're going to put it on today, so what we have here is we have a soap and water mixture the main reason we like to use soap and water for a mixture is just so we can maneuver the film where we need to see how can I slide it back and forth can I adjust it here can I adjust I have it there just so I can get perfect placement on this modified kit we just tuned.
This allows us to really play with it and get the maximum amount of coverage without it getting stuck or having the slightest distortion when applying people is very, very difficult, uh. It takes a lot of time and a lot of practice to get really good at this. There are many installers. There are many different methods. There are many different ways to get from point A to point B and it all comes down to the installer. and how competent you are how technically correct you want to be there are a lot of things involved in this did you ever watch Bob Ross growing up?
Yeah, so when I do this I feel like Bob Ross, everything comes out to you, it brings it to life. The shadows are very important so now that the fender is installed we're going to do what we like to do here and we're going to be a little bit more so now you see all this extra film here so we're going to wrap the front edge of the fender we're going to wrap the rear edge of the fender this top piece that goes towards the pillar we're going to wrap it on the hood it wraps there will be places where you can't wrap it like this headlight behind there's no real edge for the film to grab on to and there's what we noticed on these scammers that the back isn't even painted so we can't wrap the back of that, but it's no big deal, we just have to line this piece up here so it looks really flush and the film is practically invisible.
Also, now that we're done, let's inspect it and make sure it really came out perfect, so let's go. to look for little bits of dirt, imperfections, anything that the normal eye can't see, but I'm going to catch it and this fender looks fantastic. I don't really see any dirt or distortion, so to me this is crazy. badass this is jason he's going to love this we can go ahead and start finishing all these edges above the top 100 what's this about beautiful hell yeah what are you doing? I'm removing all the lint from my hat and sweater that way.
I minimize any contamination, now we are ready, so we are doing something a little special for Jason and we are going to install the 10 mil Expel film. This is a film that is a little thicker than eight mil. The film we normally use expel ultimate plus has an eight mile delay and what we are putting in is 10 mils. This will be more beneficial for greater impact. More rock fragments. It also looks a little clearer when you stretch it enough and install it correctly. The downsides to this is simply the way it installs, it's a little thicker so it makes it harder to install, it makes it harder to look cleaner when you have a seam anywhere, it's much more noticeable that seam, but overall, this isa much better product.
If for a daily or high impact area like this front bumper, what is it? It's a rare phenomenon, we don't know what it is and I'll be rich because I'm the only person on earth who knows where it can be found. white mud let's find out what it is, it could be anything, it could be dirt, it could be a small piece like the ceiling or some dust, yeah there are so many things that can go wrong so it's not even white it's actually grey. so you're picking that, yeah, so it's the smallest particle of I don't know if you can see that right on my nail, it's actually like a gray particle, but when it goes under the film it somehow turns white, so yeah , I took it out of the movie, yeah, I just picked it up, now we'll put it back. correct and it's no longer spec'd, I just have to clean up the little residue it left, but I got the main piece out, the rest is easy and everything will settle as it cures, everything will look perfect. you're the best, talk to me like this, it was right here, that's where it used to be, it's all gone, you know, the best time to wrap your vehicle is when you buy it new.
I didn't do that, I drove it. I had a little fun with it, we put a couple of holes in it to see how fast this baby was, but I got some rock fragments and this is what a rock fragment looks like, just a little indentation that looks like a particle or a spectrum . rubble, uh, something very similar, but that's a real rock fragment because we pointed it out or we knew it before we put the movie on, so there's not much you can do about it, you can touch up the rock fragments a little bit if they're really big and deep and you can put a little bit of paint on there just to make it look like it matches the paint, but if you have an uneven surface and you put a film on top of it, it accentuates that unevenness there and you.
You'll see the difference you'll actually see a little more than you would The movie wasn't there Alfa What do you think of dad's new car? You like the Alfa car because you can't get into it. Are you sad about that? You're sad because you can't go in dad's car. I'm sorry, but you're a dog and there are white seats. The guys just wrapped the entire car in paint protection film. It looks beautifull. We have other things to do. we're going to coat it with ceramic we have to make the windows we have to make the wheels but first I want to show you the self healing properties of this film that's why I love this film so much because I don't have to worry about scratches or swirl marks.
I know it will look great every day. This is a wire brush. We're going to wire brush the front here and then I'll show you how it cures like it normally cures. in the sun it cures itself with heat but we're in Chicago it's cold it's the middle of winter so we're going to use a heat gun and I'm going to show you how it works we're going to clean this front hood First, we all know that scratches will occur if you wipe snow off your car with a brush, or if you wash it improperly, you can get scratches and swirls.
What's so good about self-healing film? I'm going to show you so I'm just going to scratch this done okay you see the scratches those are some pretty deep scratches made with a wire brush and I'm going to show you how it works I went too deep on that all right you can see the before and after everything. The scratches are gone, except for one of them. We went too deep on one of them. You can see the difference here though, so come in and take a look at what's next after you see that we have a deeper beam there.
My car is now completely protected. and the paint protection film looks great with proper maintenance and care, this will last 10+ years after that, I can remove the film and have new paint underneath, if you have any
