Fixing everything wrong with my GR Yaris!

May 16, 2024
This is a modified Toyota G Yaris. I don't think anyone should modify a Toyota Garis. I think Toyota has it perfect from the factory, however some people have complained that you know the engine is not powerful enough as it could be. It has to do with making a little more noise, the suspension is a little high and the seating position inside is

wrong

. This car apparently solves those four problems that some people have. I'm going to find out if this is really better than the factory one. I don't think it's, this is Imran from Evolution Automotive.

Hello everyone, Imran. You've tuned, modified, supposedly messed up, so you say, I think you may have messed up this car, and in fact, let's start with something you've done. to that, which is not one of the four things that people complain about and that is a look, you have given it a body kit, yes, so this is a jauza body kit, they are from Germany and I think just add a little bit. of subtle aggression, my favorite part of the kit is the spoiler because I think they are missing a rear spoiler, let's talk about it, so here on the front it's not so noticeable when I see your car.

I just like it, it looks good, but it just looks a little more aggressive than mine. I thought it was because you just wrapped it in matte black, but it's not. It is this body kit that is not too flashy. I'm not so sure about this part here, but we do move. the side, it all blends together really well, yeah, Sid's cut literally follows the bottom of the car and you know what you like? You mentioned the spoiler and seeing it get here it seems like it really should have had one like the factory one, yeah I mean.

It looks like it belongs when you look at these cars, the way the roof slopes down, it looks like something is missing and yeah, like you said, if that came from the factory you wouldn't think anything different, you know this was supposed to go away. Rallying wasn't this car, it didn't like Co and all that kind of stuff and obviously the rally car has a big blooming spoiler so it's strange they didn't put one on the radical car, yeah they should have and then move around the Back here so I don't care too much about the Lippy here at the rear, in fact it looks better than the normal red diffuser type without a plastic area diffuser and it just reflects what is already there on the car so the design is pretty cohesive and you also have the lovely acropo titanium oh yeah yeah let's move on to that because the exhaust looks a lot better so we've got those and we'll find out how it sounds in a little bit, but moving back to the side obviously this car is lower and that helps make it look more aggressive, right?

Yes, because the arches are very wide and when you have the car sitting quite high, I guess it looks more like a rally car. but it doesn't suit the car in terms of The Stance, so I think the stance is much better, yes, so low, the suspension gives it a slightly better stance, but for me this is about driving and it's about driving . tight and rubbish British as they are at the moment and just dealing with them just taking it all in. I'm not convinced Lan, the suspension is the right thing to do on this car.
Japan's best engineers worked on this car to set it up to just fly through Tat without you noticing the bumps bothering you too much, but interestingly the company that makes the suspension on this car is Billstein, do you know who makes the suspension for the GR&M? It's Billstein, yes, yes, but you don't have Billstein in it. Car from the sender, not in the special version with the GRMN Billstein coil-over shock absorbers? I'm not saying they are the same, but it is the same company that made them. You know what they say, they're not saying they're the same.
They're going to be similar, they say they're going to be similar, yeah, sure, well, we'll find out the suspension when we drive it, but we talked about the image, you know, when I was buying one, it was what color. I know I passed by a white one, then a red one. I couldn't decide and in the end I just chose red. No, I did not do it. You chose white. I don't have the color of my own car. an absolute idiot, yes white, black was obviously your color, right, yes, when I went to order the car I knew I wanted, it was matte black, that's why I ordered a black car, yes, so you don't open the door and It's white, it just looks weird.
Whatever color you see, I think it looks good. All three colors work anyway. It's enough. Let's go look at probably the largest area where you've updated it. Do you have a small fleet of cars like me? Then you will love it. Now alternatively head to Google Play Store or App Store and download it from there. Signing up is completely free and can save you time, money and stress, so let's talk about the engine upgrades, things that I can see don't provide more performance right, just the carbon fiber engine cover looks pretty instead of the rubber cover you use. get in the normal car, but this makes a difference, isn't it this huge carbon fiber air intake? That makes a big difference on a car that's not even tuned, it's got about 20 horsepower and in terms of power we've got the exhaust to shit on and again that adds about 20 horsepower so As standard, the car has 260 horsepower and 360 new mm of torque.
By doing so, you can take it up to 300, which feels like it's not slow. In fact, I feel like it's very fast and doesn't really need to be much faster, so does it really need 300 horsepower? No car needs extra horsepower. It's just nice to have when you need it. Okay, but you didn't think about 300. The horsepower was enough, so you made some other changes, yeah, so the only thing we did was remap the ECU to give the car another 40 extra horsepower, so now you have up to 340 horsepower, 340 horsepower and about the same. in torque in feet, what is that in newon meters about 47 something like that?
Quite a big jump in torque too wow and once again not something I felt the Yaris needed, it feels like just the right amount of power to me. fast, yes it's pretty fast, but it's even more fun, it's even more fun now, faster, but in addition to your power, you'll get more noise from the air intake, yes, you get a really nice noise from the air intake , you get the turbo bu sound. and then you get the lovely sound of the shitty exhaust in the rear, the noise comes from the G. I mean, most of what you experience when you drive is this fake noise that they play through the speakers that we have activated. off because that's really all you hear from the inside and then from the outside all you hear is the tires on the road.
Yes, it would be very interesting to see if the sound is actually more welcome than the increase in performance. I think you would. I'd be surprised if you think I'm going to like both, yeah well ok that's what you did to the engine so the ECU is the Toyota system but you just remapped it. Yes, it was that hard to do, basically the ISU was blocked for years. As soon as the companies figured out how we could get in and out of it and program it, then it was pretty simple. What about the four-wheel drive system?
I remember talking to you years ago that you were going to try to do something. with the four wheel drive system to modify it so you can make it 100% rear drive yes that is possible although with the way it works because isn't it some kind of gear there so I think it is possible with a standard? Unique ECU like a cyx, but not possible at this time with the original ECU. Someone within the system told me that it is possible, but I don't know if it was the person who worked in the canteen, although no, it is definitely not the canteen.
Alright, let's turn this off and go look at the I thought there were no gas shocks here, it's all pretty cheap and light, isn't it? This is all old school and now let's see what most people complain about with the Garis, it's not really the performance, it's not really the looks, it's the seats, so these seats are quite different from The ones you get as standard, what exactly are they? They were made by a company called Cobra which is based in the UK and it's their Nagaro model and obviously we've redesigned it to fit the car and we even had the Chery Company branding on it so I went to the factory and they built them while I was there and with its seat mounted, the seat is also much lower, which is the main thing.
Complaint, they got so high. I don't mind, it gives you a good view, but often when you drive like a sports car you want to be as low to the road as possible and they really don't. I give you they are higher up, Triy's PR says so, it's like you're in a rally car, but when I sat in a proper rally car, they sat pretty low, it seemed like the PR was talking with Yo, so yeah, these seats are really nice, they fit closer to the body because of the way they look, obviously with wingback, you have the red stitching that matches what you actually have in the standard car and on the steering wheel, but these full brackets are not When purchasing a seat, you also purchase these brackets which allow the seat to be much lower.
How much lower do you know exactly in terms of millimeters? I think it was about 2 inches, that's quite a bit right? When you think about the movement that a normal seat will do, it's like going from the top of the setup to almost all the way to the bottom, so it'll be really interesting to see what it does because it basically lowers your hit point. and it puts you more like in the center of the car, the way you feel the way it turns, yeah, obviously there's no height adjustment, you can't do it manually. I can go back and forth to adjust it.
I have to unscrew the seat and then adjust it to your specifications, but this is essentially set up for me, how tall are you? I'm 5' N9, okay, I'm a little taller than you, the seats, we have the suspension. the noise it should make and the power those four things you think you've done better mhm, let's find out Iman, let's find out if you really have proof will be on the P before you go for a ride, let's listen to the cold start with this upgraded exhaust, like this get it going, oh my gosh, now look at how it's a standard.
Okay, Imran comes out in your modified Garis. The first thing I notice is obviously the seating position. I don't know if it's because I'm used to it. by standard this feels almost too low the dash is quite high in this car I can't see as well although somehow I can see better there because I'm lower the rear view mirror doesn't get in my way as much because this is a small space , It is not like this? The rearview mirror of this car is a really uncomfortable position. I have a wider field of view, but it's not as good a vertical field of view.
I don't believe it at this moment. I need to find some bumps to make it feel firmer. In fact, it's interesting right on top of those soundtracks that were pretty good there. I'm not going to say anything. I'm going to let you experience it in terms of suspension. I don't want to stain your view, I think I already want to say that I need to accelerate a little, it just feels more expensive, it reminds me a little of a Porsche GT car where it's like Farm, but in a good way, yes. I know exactly what you mean, oh, blow your neck off, I mean, wait, wait, wait a minute, wait a minute and you've turned off the sound inside.
This is like a racing car, right? Yeah, that shitty exhaust note is amazing. very similar to a rally car, I think now you talk about four problems with this car, actually there are two others, one I already mentioned the position of the rear view mirror, the other is the pedals that you can't fix and turn in this car, what? can? The pedals are fine, they're just the

wrong

height and too far apart now. Driving mode. I'm on a biasfront wheel drive at the moment. I never drive like I always drive on the track. I used to drive in rear wheel drive. diagonal which is like 70% rearward, but I switched because you could feel it pushing you from behind, but when you do that you miss the effect of that front differential, you don't feel it engage as much and I like the way I really like to get out of a curve and that's what reminds me of the Evo, okay, just driving it is firmer, but it's no less comfortable, here we go, it's a small boot, I'm not going to lie, I'm really not. feeling the extra power, I don't know whether it's because there is more noise and I expect more based on the noise.
Also, I just drove an M3 with 510 horsepower, you know, because sometimes when you jump back to back, it doesn't feel like it's increased the same way as the normal one, I'm starting to get used to the driving position and suspension and feels more like a race car rather than just a hot hatch. Are you telling me that's not right? So yeah, I think I just did it. I got a little confused about the M3 I was driving before, if you want to watch that video just click there, okay M3 touring CSL, yes it feels like a very different car, oh no I think I might want to do this.
I didn't think you said it couldn't be improved Matt, I think saying a bit like a Porsche 911 compared to a Porsche 911 GT is like that, isn't it? Yeah, like if you drive a 911, you don't think there's anything wrong, you drive a GT2. You're okay, this is what it could be, it's a little bit busier in the suspension, yes maybe, but it's not busy in a way that's uncomfortable, it's firmer, you feel like it's firmer, but the damping is better , yes, then the shock absorbers are much better. more quality than the standard ones, that's one of the things I really like about them is that it feels like a stiff car, you know, I'll give it a bit of a toss up.
I'm just going to slide it a little bit. Yes, it goes through it. Faster RS, right? Yes, my God, yes. I'm starting to feel it now. It's definitely more of an immediate event when you get into it and I think if they had released this car, they would have. I've been like "OMG, this is amazing, maybe we were talking about the GI anyway. I love it, like I said, like I said there. I don't think there's anything wrong with the support for me, this is just making it better for me." so Personally I do this to my car so first of all we need to think about the cost, how much do all these upgrades cost?
Probably around £10,000 okay we won't do this because it all costs a couple of grand? or more. Look, it's a couple of great, couple of great, listen here oh, it's good, right? Wow, so I've been getting exhaust really because there, but now with the windows open, I'm getting all of them. intake noises, it's good that you're doing a Good job, thanks I'm relieved I thought I'd end up going home and being very depressed. That's a case of the tuning going well. disappointed I'm disappointed a I was wrong and B I should probably do this to my car, it feels special, it really does.
I thought there would be quite a few disadvantages, the compromises of the stiffer suspension, the engine maybe being a little slow, but there is none of that. It really feels different, it's like I said in the video, it feels like a GT3 version of a giis and like a GT3 version to get it you have to spend a lot more money so I'll do that. I probably won't, but I'll always wish I had oh
