If it has a bright color like a flower, smells sweet and delicious, they will almost certainly ruin your good time. To your right is a paper wasp. A single sting will definitely hurt, but if you run into a whole nest of them, ooh-wee! Forget it. It's going to be a really bad day. To your left is a bald hornet. This is one of the largest and most robust species that can be found here in the United States.

More Interesting Facts About,

stung twice wasp vs hornet...

I have never been bitten by this insect before and I was told that the poison is quite powerful. And this experiment will be a little unique, because I don't usually get two bites at once. And what I did was I creatively shaved off all the hair on my forearm so we could see the bite better. I also drew two large squares, one for the hornet and one for the wasp. And what we're going to do is compare the two most popular Sting-Kill products, the Sting-Kill Wipes and the Sting-Kill Neon Green Serum. Now I know exactly what you want to see.

Before we dive into the bites and all the great entertainment, I should know that this is not something you want to try. Allergic reactions can occur with both wasp and hornet stings, which is why we have an epinephrine pen on site. Alright, first we're going to get a wasp sting. So I'm going to get the hornet out of the way. And we're going to go through the typical process. You know how this works. I'm going to take the entomology network. I'm going to put the capsule inside the net. I'm going to let the insect out of the capsule.

I'll put it in the tweezers and then we'll put it directly on my forearm and see what it feels like to get

stung

. I'm Coyote Peterson and I'm about to enter the sting zone with the paper wasp. 1, 2, 3. (uncomfortable music) (Coyote growls) Woo. Well. He got

stung

. I'm going to go ahead and get a couple of bites while I'm at it. Ah! There you go. You can see the stinger going in there. Are two. Let's take a full dose here. (Coyote growls) Oh, yeah, wow. There's some fire right there. Okay, now I'm going to return the insect to the capsule.
Thanks my friend. I appreciate it. Okay, now it's important to note that these insects can't just keep producing poison after poison after poison in immediate synchronization. You will receive the largest dose of poison from the initial impact. And you can see that red mark. You know, I didn't get it right in the middle of the W square, but (exhales) I'm going to let it sit for a couple of seconds. Yauzers. Yes, it burns. Ooh, and it has like a secondary wave that is now starting to appear. Now, a single sting, like I said, will never be that bad.
But if you disturb a nest of paper wasps and a bunch of them trap you especially in an area like your face or neck, this will have a massive effect on your body. At this point, I run into the house, dig into the medicine cabinet, and look for my Sting-Kill wipes. This is for external use only. An individual use package. And it has Benzocaine and a little bit of menthol. Well, here we go. It's cold to the touch. Oh, oh, yes. That is fantastic. Instant cooling sensation. Now remember, a paper wasp's venom is not too potent and they use this sting as a defense to protect themselves from any invading predators.
So if you come across a paper wasp nest this summer, whether it's under the eaves of your house, tucked under your grill, or it's just a wasp showing up to share some of your sweet tea, don't knock it. Don't try to remove it with a broom. Leave him alone and you will be completely safe. Okay, paper wasp. A couple bite and we're done. Now it's time to move on to the bald hornet. Oh, that's an intimidating little bug, I'm not going to joke with you. Since I have never been bitten by this insect before, I wonder how bad this bite really is.
Now, on Justin Schmidt's bug bite pain index, this is only around a two. But remember, everyone's body reacts differently to poison and each person's perception of pain may be slightly different depending on how much poison they receive. With any luck, I'll get a full dose of poison right from the start. You know how this is about to happen. Let's take the insect out of the jar and place it on my forearm. You might think that getting bitten is the hardest part. The hardest part is actually getting the insect into the entomology tweezers. You have to be very careful not to damage their legs or wings.
You have to place them in the perfect position. So you just squeeze the chest without causing any injury. (Coyote exhales) I'm Coyote Peterson, and I'm about to enter this sting zone with the bald hornet. Here we go. 1, (exhales) 2, 3. (Coyote screams) Oh my God. Oh my God. Actually, that is very, very painful. (Coyote growls) Hit right in the center of the target. (Coyote growls) I'll take one more just in case. (tense music) (Coyote screams) Okay, yeah, that's probably enough. (Coyote growls) Wow. No... Yes, no, that's much worse than the paper wasp. Holy God. Yes, okay. Oh man, that one drew blood.
Can you see that? I received three stings from the paper wasp. So I'm going to get three stings from the hornet. Why not? You say, "Come on, Coyote, one more!" Wow. Oh my God. This is really... Holy macro. Okay, one more. Here we go. The third time's the charm. (tense music) (Coyote growls) Yes, you can see the stinger going right into the skin. You see it? (Coyote growls) Okay, okay, okay, okay. Damn, damn, the stinger stuck in my arm. Go Go. (grunts) Okay. That's enough. That's enough. Well. Back in your jar. Oh. (Coyote growls) Okay, yeah.
Well, that's a lot worse than the paper wasp. Wow. (Coyote growls and laughs) Wow, the bald hornet punched the bald man right in the forearm. Okay, I'll let this sit for a second. Wow, there is definitely a noticeable difference between the bald hornet and the paper wasp. I mean, there's no comparison. It felt like someone tickling your forearm compared to the sting the bald hornet gives you. Now keep in mind that it is a much more robust species. Wow, it's running on all 12 cylinders right now. (Coyote exhales) That is without a doubt a total production of bald hornet venom.
So three solid bites. There is the initial second that drew blood. And, strangely enough, I don't see as much of an effect on the third sting, when the stinger stuck in my forearm. But I think what I experienced with that third sting may not be so much poison. I can promise you (laughs) the first sting was like I was injecting hot lava into my arm. (Coyote growls) Oh man, it's a sting that keeps on giving. Goodness. Alright. It's kind of a knee-bouncing sting, that's for sure. Man, look at the welt that's forming. I already have a good opportunity for that.
Well. I'm going to let it sit a little longer before applying the Sting-Kill. I really want the poison to be absorbed. Remember, you may not always have Sting-Kill right there on your backyard barbecue. You may have to run inside, you may have to go under the sink, you may have to climb into the closet, but you must get this as quickly as possible. Well. Serum comes out. The good thing is that it's inside these little capsules and all you need to do is tear one off. The fun thing about these is that there's glass inside a little plastic capsule, and for the serum to work and go into this little cotton swab in the front, you squeeze it and it pops open.
And everything will reach the tip. (Coyote growls) Oh, yeah. That's good. (Coyote laughs) Instant cooling sensation on the skin. And I'm going to go ahead and let that sink in. Oh. Instant. Literally, that spot on my arm has gone numb. It feels great. And I went from agony to instant relief. Now there is some swelling that is starting to form on the edge of my arm. But as far as the pain goes, it's pretty much gone by now. Well, I would say today was entertaining and educational. And when it comes to comparing the paper wasp sting to the bald hornet sting, the hornet definitely packs a more painful punch.
