Fixing My Dads Biggest Barn Flaw

Mar 30, 2024
welcome back today is a beautiful day we have a little snow we have a little Sundrop we have a little project that we are going to start today right now I am in the prefresh actually it is so now I am in the Prefresh here and I have this big problem. The cows like to come here. They like to lick this thing. I like to break the cables and I had the idea that I'm going to put a door here. run and that will hopefully keep them out of this area. There's really no reason they need to be here anyway.

We put a gate here to keep them out. I already had enough, so my

biggest

concern with this is that I'm not going. to be able to turn my door here without it getting in the way and I can't turn it this way because if this was the only way I could turn it I wouldn't be able to run the cows from the headlock come back through this door here and a lot of times when we do roll the cows or we do surgery, that's the door we always bring them in to get them into the bedding pack quickly, so right now I'm measuring across the alley.

More Interesting Facts About,

fixing my dads biggest barn flaw...

I think it's a 14t alley. I hope that gives us enough room to clear the door. We also have a fresh calf while we do this, so the alley is actually 13 feet wide, so now I'm going to measure to see how far. May I know what prepared you here? We're going to use two hands. This is a two-handed job. Maybe it's a three-handed job. Maybe it's a two-person job, so we're 10 feet to the end of the building. 12 13 14 so I think we're going to have enough space and if we don't get a little disappointed, it looks like it's going to work, so now we have to look for a door over the years we've had.

I've accumulated a lot of doors through expansions and just remaking corrals, so I think there's a good chance we'll have the door I want, so I guess I just have to go in there, measure them, and figure out what we have. We have a stash of doors here, oh we have a 12 foot one, this one is 12 and 2, here is our 13th butter, so here this door is our chance to make money, it needs to be dug up, so wish me luck with that , it wasn't that bad, so now take that door I have. To find something for these eyebolts to go into, I don't know if we have any lying around and I also need an automatic lock.

The auto lock is what basically locks here and will hold it in place so it doesn't move. go wherever you want, so I guess I'll go get some of them and come back. I've been looking around here for a while and still can't find any. I know another place I could probably look. because, but I might have to make some, but you think that each of these doors at one point was hanging somewhere, so there have to be hangers somewhere, you would think, but you know, you never really know nowadays , they were probably thrown away or something I hit the jackpot with the automatic locks, so now we just have to find some hangers and we'll make a good deal.
I've made them before with rebar. I don't really want to do that, I'd rather have the actual hangers. but if it comes down to it, we will, so I guess we'll look around a bit more and see if we can find one. Otherwise we'll go with plan B. Ricky needs a door hanger, give me one right now. In fact, there's some back there in the oh, there's another auto lock, that's junk, that's a bunch of junk, we've got some well-organized junk here that I made last time, I think we used this, look at this threaded rod, thanks, oh , you know exactly, you have an exact location, you hid them here, that's not what we're looking for, okay.
I searched a little more and found some, but they're not the ones I want, so they're going back in the bucket. I'm going to take some rebar and make some, I think. If I can find some rebar to do that, maybe I hope to have a bunch of just working with some scraps here, just making any job work, it's very important for me to come up with something, but we'll see, we have quite a bit of stuff. here now we're going to bring that door here I'm going to grab the door the skid steer actually my Peri I don't know I'm going to put it here to take it where I want and then I'm going to build everything there to level the door and then I'm going to put my posts to put the door and set my automatic lock and everything will put itself together as I go, it's like a puzzle. so I have all the pieces here it's just a matter of placing everything where it needs to go so it almost came out very well as you see it fits perfectly except for the fact that it's too wide to use so there was a 12T no It was a 12T, it was like a 12T 6 G gate.
I think that's going to be the magic number here. This one is too wide. I thought it would fit much better than it does. It fits perfect, but no. It's not a perfect fit for what I wanted to do, so I'm going to take a different door and come back, so I have this door here where it's going to be pretty close. I'll be able to tune it to F later. but everything can be level and where I want it to be when I'm going to put it up, so I'm going to go see where I want to put these hooks and build some hooks and weld them on there. pretty easy, pretty quick C, these together took some B rebar and put them in channel C, took channel C and just went up to B just like that, pretty simple, pretty easy and it didn't really cost me anything so achieve it.
There's some good ground here and I'm going to weld them up just like the others. The sun drop is gone and the door is done, so I soldered this all up, I've got my auto lock here so I'll be able to close this. segment right here where I MK the cows in the rest of the pen and that will be good because it will always stay dry because for whatever reason the cows like to go poop there, they like to pee there you like to lick this, I don't know why you have to smash it almost every day sometimes, but I'll be able to keep the door here if I need to use this door here and I'll be able to turn it the other way when I need to.
Well, then if I'm going to bring a cow, I can bring them here, take them here, close this door behind, close them here and then I can turn them around the corner and put them in the key, so I think it should work. pretty slick, I think I'm going to be able to use it because we have a calf coming out right now, but I'm really close, I've got it there, push mom, let's go one more, one more, there he just pooped, a hot dog. The factory is in business, so help this CF, make sure he's sitting tight, looks like everything was born, buddy, I'm going to wake up, look at that M, come with a piece of strap, no, no, he's a lively motherfucker , look, look at that, taking it all in. live right here hello girl man come on get in there f The Cavs are getting pretty rowdy in the warm up room I moved them all in here all I have to do now is get them vaccinated, give them a gallon of milk, dip their Naval and then depending on whether they are a here or a CF bull.
I have to tag them and I'll be out of here. Leave them alone. Look, apparently they don't like company. They're just attacking me here. Well, I'm going to leave it. The hot dogs do hot dog things here tonight and dry out a bit while I finish the rest of my chores. I think this is where I'm going to end the video. I hope you all enjoyed and have a good night. day wherever you are, see you next time
