Buliding A 8X16 Storage Shed

Hello everyone, this dan the man, the builder, once again starting another project, this time I'm going to build a

. I'll make it 8 by 16. You know it's a pretty big

if you look at my previous work. I did, go to my blog here and look at that and you can see that our garage was converted into an entertainment room and of course you lose a lot of space when you do that so that's what happened and that's how time passes. I accumulated all these things for a long time. I simply have no place to store things in this shed.

It was built in 1974 when the house was built and it's just rusty. I can't look at these tall things over there. I can't even understand them. there, so I need more space, so that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to build a storage shed so I'm really excited about this trip here we go okay the first thing I did was remove the holes in my foundation. The last few inches of each hole here now, the problem I had with two of the holes where I had a big tree that I cut down, the roots were pretty thick, they were about eight inches in diameter and it took quite a bit of work.

To get them out, I took half a bag of cement in each hole, let it dry and then put my four by four on top, because I was doing this, it's an expanding ground, so the thing moves this way when the things surrounded would be a little more flexible and it wouldn't have cracks, so I laid out the pea stones and filled them with soil as tightly as I could so the base would be quite sturdy. After doing this, I sprayed it with weeding grass. I monitor the things that kill for up to a year, make sure I don't have any grooves in there, then I put the tarp down to keep the weeds from growing, so I hope I don't have to deal with pop-ups any week.

I put my supports in and then I put in my two by sixes to finish the foundation here starting to get excited to see things starting to fall into place, nail everything down so there would be no movement, the floor would be solid, the floors, first, the people Ready, come on, I painted layers of paint work. So I hope they last longer and then line them up. I used my mallet and racquet to make it as tight as possible and used my nail gun to secure the floor in place. By doing all of this, I completed the foundation and I'm ready to Start making the frame of my car that I was using for most of the transportation from Home Depot to home and I like the two by sixes here, 2 by 8 fours, I could only fit 12 at a time so it took a while so now you finally have to make my frame and starting at the back wall it will be about 7 feet to get under the eaves so I'm making two sections of 8 feet, so it will be 16 feet long.

I have to use all my tools. Which makes things quicker, I use my nail gun again. I had a little problem when I was in Neyland and I had my hand, you can see there, and I had the gun slightly tilted and, in my gut, the nail went through. two fingers but the ground allowed me to use this truck every time I needed to nail a 4x8 and right after doing this my nail broke and I couldn't use it again, the repair took too long so I had to start using screws, which were much longer and much more expensive.

I bought a lot of screws lined up to make sure we're all wood so I screwed it in tight and you can see that using screws this takes longer since This is the back wall and once it's against the existing wall here I wasn't going to be able to fix it so which I had to do now so once again I put on two coats of primer and two external paint codes so that can be done since it couldn't be painted once it's up against that wall. These babies were heavy. I would use all my strength to lift them up.

I didn't show off. It took me a little longer, but now I enjoyed it, the fun part of putting it up. all the frames together, you know, measuring twice and cutting once is a good rule, making sure everything is square. I realized another pro is an amateur, just a 73 year old guy trying to make a storage shed. All you professionals are probably what he's doing, but. I thought it was going pretty well attaching the roof so that everything would connect after I finished doing this, then also where the leaves are I took boards and made what will be the top of the roof to have an angle so you can see right there where the rains would drain off so he wouldn't sit on the roof, yes these boards were heavy for an old guy but I was able to get him there using the lever that was removed.

I was able to take my time and of course, Of course, you don't know the temperature, it's pretty warm, it's been over 90 degrees and sometimes it's triple digits, but I was able to get them all up there and then once again using my screws, which took a long time here, but you know, join this 90 degree temperature. that was pointing down, give me my tan, then I'll put down the roof tar paper, nail it down and then I'll put the shingles down, yeah, it was pretty hot up there. I take a few breaks to cool off, then I get my sighting and on the sides here.

I had to cut angles so I measured it and made my cut and what fits correctly is that they were much easier since I didn't have to make a side cut, but these things are pretty heavy. I put some wood that I could set it up so I can line it up and then they just slide into each other, cool thing again, some angled cuts for the front to fit the ones there and then I had all of this. I went in the door to make sure everything was square and to put it on top of the siding I cut it out using this template which is pretty good at making some straight cuts, screw it in and that's pretty heavy but I put it in there and then worked on the supports by tightening them and the door. it swings freely then sits on the roof, those four friends are too heavy for me to handle so I had to do it in half which was easier to handle, I wasn't going to have a nice smooth cut , but this was a story.

So you know, it won't be like that room that I had to cut out where the electricity for the light was going to go through, even with cutting it in half, it was still difficult to get them up there, but when they got to the last two. The pieces here and I had my ceiling on the walls were easier, except where I had all my electricity. I put six cutting sockets around the wood which I used instead of the wall board because it will be a storage shed so I have to be using hanging things so I wanted the wood to be sturdier than the wall board, since it's a storage boat now, once I didn't have to worry about the plugs that went pretty quickly, then the door, the final piece, all screwed together, I decided to put the tiles in, so not so much where the chair on the floor and be easy to clean and sweep, use these things you just peel off the back and stick on nothing fancy, this would be easy to like, I mean sweet.

Oh, so the fun part is painting. I had to use my spray gun which I haven't been able to use since I painted the house so it's much easier to paint with a spray gun than using a roller or a brush that's what I tell you and in the final section of pain well it's It's been three weeks since I started this project. I used every second in my arsenal. It's been a lot of fun now if an old guy like me, 73 years old, can do this and the temperature was almost three degrees or the first two weeks, young people.

I should be able to make something like this very easily now, the only experience I had was in my high school in Mr. Rubio's woodworking class was his name, we made a candy dish and a lighter angle and I think I could see it in the class , so I wish he was still alive. I like to show them the things I've done since then because he was always an inspiration. although I didn't understand it very well, cool so let's take a look and see what the whole project looks like, it was a lot of fun so here's a final look at all the tools, most of the tools I use for this project.

I love my power tools one last look inside my 16 by 8 storage shed, there it is. I'm going to paint the walls and build some shelves and we'll start filling this. It was a fun project.
