The Biggest RC Drift Truck in the World! 1/5 Scale 8s Brushless Conversion. Part 1

Apr 20, 2024
What's up guys, welcome to the channel? Today's video I can finally get this out and start this project. This is a fg sport uh sports line model. This is the racing

truck

. Fifth

scale

version or fifth

scale

chassis. I think this is it. plus a sixth scale a seventh a little story of how I got this so I went to pick up this sand scorcher. I'll make a video about this probably in the new year and put a crazy motor on it. We will go. to the beach and try to break my own record. I got a really good deal on this, but we'll talk about it in our video anyway.

I went looking for this while talking to the guy who said are you interested in an rc

truck

? and I said, well, it depends on what it is and I thought it was going to be like a little number 110. Tamiya turns out it was this and I bought it. I don't even think I want to tell you how much I paid for it. because anyway you might be a little jealous, I don't really know much about this so let's zoom in a little bit closer, let's take a look to see what we have and this has some cool improvements too.

More Interesting Facts About,

the biggest rc drift truck in the world 1 5 scale 8s brushless conversion part 1...

It has never been used, but I'm not really a fan of gasoline engines, so I have a nice big engine. We're going to do a

brushless

conversion

on this and we're going to make this absolutely spectacular, so it will never work. It has been run although it has some damage, I think what happened is someone dropped it or it could be a second hand body, so we need to put some sugar or something to repair it, but a big body, very nice, we have Darth. You transform there into a skeletal body, you can't really look for its reflection, but I think it rotates with the turns of the steering service head, I think it's a cool little feature overall, although this will look amazing once we get that technology

brushless

.

I'll run it and I think it'll be pretty interesting, I definitely don't want to get in its way, although with this big metal bar on the front right I'm going to remove the body. And I'll show you a little bit closer inside and talk a little bit about what we're actually going to do with this or what we need to do to convert it to brushless before we do that, but here it is. It's next to the sbr and you'll see what I mean, although the chassis may be 5th scale, this one is 6th scale, so I'm thinking more of a 7th scale, although I don't know even an 8th scale, You could probably go if that was a sixth it's huge I don't know but it's amazing anyway so mahar is a seventh.

I know you can't go to scale on two different types of vehicles, but looking at them both together you could definitely imagine a trophy truck was sitting next to a race winner of that size, maybe I've been waiting so long to take this out and show it to you guys because it's crazy, I love it, big fat double wishbone suspension up front and a couple of big old servos. So like I said, I don't think if I show you looking at the chassis, I don't think this thing has ever been used. The huge rear cock looks crazy.
I mean, I would love to have used it with the gas engine, but. To be honest with you, for me, there's nowhere here to go, it's pretty loud and I want to get a brush that's there because we all know brushless power is crazy compared to anything else, I know some of you. The gas gas gang probably won't agree with me, but I prefer brushless, I prefer easier, you have a lot more space in here and it will be a lot of fun, one thing this has and I think are improvements, it has disc brakes all around, so which has four independent brakes, so it has four independent brakes and the front brakes are in a separate survey.
You know what that means, right? We have a line lock on this. We have a line lock on this brushless power. he wants to see a burnt out truck that would be awesome so you have a servo here that acts on the rear brakes and then you have a separate servo here that is the front brakes and then I'm going to set up the brakes. Yes, I'm definitely going to have the front brakes on as a line lock, so they will be separate from the rear brakes. You could also put them on a separate um channel so you can activate them without using the motor too much.
It is the kit you buy to convert it to brushless. I hope it fits. Should I do it. I have some photos online of how it was converted, but that's about it. I have a 56 92 980 kv large thick surface hobby rocket motor. I've had good success with these that aren't this size, but I'm using one on them Harvey, I'm also using a smaller one on the three pirates out there and I've also used one on the cheap unlimited mode, that's what I think. it cost me. £80, about 100, I think it's cheap for a motor and we're just waiting for the max 5 to come in and it's not there yet so I'm going to run it at the max 5 with that motor in 8, it's going to be crazy.
Well, the first thing I'm going to do is take out the fuel tank, take out the motor, take off the exhaust, see how much room we have and then start looking and then start looking at how to put the brushless stuff. so it didn't take as long as I thought, but there it is definitely, I mean, definitely looking at it, I don't think this has ever been used, so hopefully once, once I get everything and I get all the pieces. I need to get all the pieces I removed out of here. I hope they give us some of the money back for the brush

conversion

, at least pay for the motor, that would be pretty good, I'm not sure.
I'll get enough to pay for everything, but it's all done, so now I just need to order a few things. Look where the brackets go for the brushless conversion. Let's start including it, so the instructions are pretty bad. I'm honest, but I think this bottom plate goes there like this. I think I need to drill two holes in the chassis and then I need to remove this from the engine and I think it sits there like this and then this bracket goes. there but I think this

part

I think this is separate I think this is different um I think this has been added for something so I need to delete it again I don't think I'm telling you to delete it but I need to remove it otherwise this support won't be it's going to line up, so, let's try it, so I guess that's how it works, so I changed that bracket, I just flipped it over because it's actually acting as a spacer underneath. there too so flip it over now and this in the pictures the really bad pictures are actually attached to something so I think it's for a different chassis and again I'm not sure what these threaded tips on the back are for top, but that's what's mounted on it.
Everything looks good, obviously, the motor is going to stay there, um, and that's pretty much it, there's a lot of fixings here. I don't think I'm going to use them all. It gives you a bunch of drum tray holders, but I have one. there and then you should be able to do it. Don't know. Actually, I could probably buy another one of them to go this way. I could not? Then I could distribute them evenly there. I took a look and I'm not sure. The other thing is that I don't think I'm going to use the rear brakes right now unless I make a custom mount because the mount for the rear brakes is all bolted to this

part

so I'm not sure I can do it.
I could understand it, maybe I can do something, but at the moment the important ones for us are the front brakes, so I can burn them a little, but we'll leave them tied up once we have everything. Anyway, I have a drill, two holes, I'm going to mount this correctly. I'm going to take a look at how to start the engine. One thing I forgot was that I'm going to need a sprocket because I don't think so. one will fit, I'm not sure what mod they are, it's 1.5 for that, so what I'm going to do now, I'm just going to try to get it all done now, when we get back we should be ready to power up. turn it on and do a quick test on the bench and see if everything i've done has worked well, we're pretty much ready to go so max 5 is on look at all that space there, plenty of room, i've got another battery tray for This size, so the batteries are a couple of three small S's right now, so we're going to try it in 6, but there's plenty of room there for a battery on each side of the motors, all mounted, so we had a small problem with the sprocket.
I tried a 19 first, a little too big so I have a 18 and it's a little tight so yeah a little tight in a tight and you can't adjust the tight on this so I ordered the 17. the 18. it will work so we can run it with 18 teeth, but I think ideally you need a 17. I also ordered this one is a 46. I also ordered a 43. I think you also have 22 teeth. opinion and that 19 so option for uh the spur or the sprocket whatever you want to call it on this and I have some sprockets there are the cool disc brakes it has four of them everywhere front and rear not connected to the rear at the moment because I need to make some kind of bracket for them to work so what I'm going to do is take them off for now the fronts are working so we can use them but I'm going to take the rear brakes off right I'm going to fix the brakes, put the wheels back on, put the batteries in, just turn it on, make sure everything is working and then we'll go find a place to test it quickly in 6s. just to make sure everything is working good, the ESC is good, maybe all the brackets work, make sure the front brakes and stuff are working, so that's what we're going to do 6 seconds and I think as we have to save for another video i can even change take it somewhere and give it a quick run so i'm using a dx3 transmitter this is what you get like your felony violation and armor stuff it has avc i thought i might help with this because these tires almost feel like plastic, but I'm sure that's just because they're new, so I think we might need some abc's anyway, everything connected to the steering seems to work fine, although the abc doesn't work, maybe I have to look into that. anyway, it's a little noisy, I think it's because of that mesh, but if it's successful, it seems pretty fast, okay, let's go find a place to try this.
It's a little hard to find a place to run it because it's the usual place I go. It was filled with a bunch of trash and stuff, so I found this relatively small parking lot, although today it was just a jolt, so it should be a little slow, but we're fine, so I had the steering set up wrong, those tires. They are definitely not made for grip. I have the brakes set to channel, channel four, I think so, oh, this is going to be difficult, it works a lot. The front brakes are incredible, well resolved, now I have ABC and the steering goes to the right.
The way it could give us, heck, it was a little bit of control but still super slippery. It's probably a good thing we didn't use 8 in this. Oh, I need some traction. I need different tires, although they are getting a little more. The grip is still cold which I thought would be good, besides looking awesome we definitely need better rubber although it's definitely getting a bit more grip take it easy that front brake works great no work Well, I guess we can call it a success. Like it's running fine but we call it wheel or tire failure, at least I'm going to get some grippy tires.
I think this is going to be fast, though only at six let alone eight, although it's pretty uncontrollable, so let's see if I can get some good

drift

ing shots for you guys. Greetings for seeing it. There will definitely be some more videos of this and it will be an awesome not only a

drift

truck but with that front cape line lock it will be an Awesome weathered truck too thanks for watching guys see you next time enjoy the montage, I'm crazy.
