Installing H&R Lowering Springs on my 2018 Dodge Charger

Mar 07, 2024
Hello great youtube, I'm your boy Joel and I'm back with another video, as you can see today is garage day, we have an installation video for you all. I'm going to do my best to explain how I install my

lowering

springs

. from h r and we're going to continue from there, but thanks in advance for coming to my video, thanks for coming to my channel, I really appreciate it, I'm going to try to close this gap right here, this is the back and this is the front so it looks like six and a quarter six and a quarter inches in the rear then the front from the rim we're looking at 3 8 5 3 8 to be precise I got the h r

springs

here and did some research I thought Let's try h r on the i back so first look open the box, this is what it looks like and get a little sticker, some little instructions, insulation instructions, uh, yeah, we'll put it on the side, so these are the springs.

As you can see, we have the front two in the middle and the back two on the outer sides. If you look here, made in Germany, h r, and this here is a bias number or item code for the specific springs that I'm using. If you have a

charger

, a challenger, most likely this is your camber number, the f represents for the front, if I go to the rear, yes, the same r number for the rear, okay, like this that we will install them in the car once all that is said. Let's get to work, this is the front we need.

We're going to take this upper control arm off right here, the bolts. Then if you look behind the puck, let's see if I can get a better angle. This bolt at the bottom. We're going to remove that as well as the back bolt, we're going to remove that as well, so three bolts down here we have the bottom one, we have this one right here and we have that one right there after you take it. you take those three bolts out, then you come here, here under this cover, you open this cover, you can literally take like a flathead screwdriver and just plug it in.

There are three or three bolts, you unscrew them and then this disconnects this whole arm. the arm comes out and then you compress the spring, you take the spring out, you put the

lowering

springs in, you install this back just like you took it out, okay, let's do it, what I'm going to do is apply a little bit of pressure under the arm of control of this That way, when I unscrew, nothing comes out, nothing you know has pressure because right now it has a lot of pressure because this is hanging, so I'm going to apply a little pressure so it doesn't come off.

You can do the same, just place the jack on the bottom and voila, I was finally able to get this out. It took me a long time. This container is very hard, so you would need to use a hammer right here. of these hammers so hit this back and forth to get it out, this one was tough too but what I've noticed getting this out is that you have to get this one out first with the jack under it just because this is when you have when it has pressure on it, no you can pull it out because it's hooked back here, so first you're going to pull this one out with a jack underneath it applying pressure, then you're going to pull the top one out, and then you're going to pull the bottom one out.
Alright, so this whole thing will fall forward when you hit it with a hammer and then you're going to take out the three bolts at the top and then the whole span should be loose. Now all that remains is the process of removing this from the spot and

installing

the spring. there and put it back in to get the top of the strut out, it's an 18 millimeter socket after you compress the clamps enough so you can see a gap between here, okay, okay, that's it. so let's go out with the old and the new before we do this, let's check a little height difference about close at the bottom just a little bit a little bit put this back here remember that here it says what the front is right now when you're going back to to put this on, you don't need the spring clamps because obviously the spring is smaller and shorter so you don't need to compress it to put this back on, all you have to do is put the bolt back on and screw it back on and you're done , wow, and that was one from three months ago, but one more for you, see how we get these two bolts here are closer than the one here, okay, you need to make sure these two bolts are aligned. with that here, okay, okay, so, okay, so I don't know if you guys can see it, but what I'm doing to bring this in and put it back in you need to use a jack, put it under here for for the installation so that this goes back inside this boat, okay, so I'm going to keep lifting it up and show you guys after all, okay, so it's in, I'm going to take that bolt and put it all back in.
Okay and then I'm going to go ahead and put this suede arm back here and hook it again and that's it, so you do everything backwards. We start here, we just tighten them by hand, as you can see, they are loose. so we can hold the strut in place, then we go down here, remember this was all forward, so what we did was we bolted this, bolted that first, then we used a jack, lift it up to where it meets this and then you'll put this bolt hand tighten again so it's in place and then you're going to go last and put this back in here okay so these bolts are tight all three this one's tight too the sway bar titans too , very good down here, this one tightens.
Well, okay, my jacket is still in place, now I'll slowly let go of my jug, and that's the front wheel, this is the space I have in the front now, okay, there's only one wheel finished, I still have to make the other three wheels. Okay, we're on the rear wheel, now the strut is separated from the spring, so it may be a little bit more difficult, but what you have to do is take out this bottom bolt here and then if you look a little further down, that bolt , on the right. here if you go from this angle it's like you take that out and then this whole lower control arm will drop and then the spring will come loose free but to take out this rear bolt the bolt is so long that the muffler is in the way , so what you have to do is go under the car and unscrew a bolt that is attached to the muffler.
I'll show you when I get there, but that's what you'd have to do. under the car right now this is your active exhaust what you have to do is press this clip right on the top if you can get a flathead screwdriver but I have one hand right now and this is how it comes out you have to pull yourself out I have to disconnect the active exhaust to drop the muffler and take out the bolt, okay, so after you release the sensor here, if you follow the exhaust to the resonator, right here, that bolt that you see there, you unscrew it. that your muffler will fall off and then you can take out this bolt, you are authorized to take out this boat, after struggling for a long time, the man finally took out this bolt from the muffler, we had to release the muffler, okay, let's bring this jack is all the way down, as you can see it's got no pressure now it's completely fallen off so now all I do is pull out the spring arm and make sure the whole boot at the bottom pulls it out look how much dust it has.
I went in there, actually take it out and then we'll drop it, no wonder, as you can see pretty close at the bottom, going to the top, that's a difference on the back, yeah, I like those nice differences, so this is the boot that We're going to put the spring in here like a shoe, so we're going to drop it here and it should be fine, just make sure that if you look inside you'll see exactly where the shoe belongs, because there's a lip there on the shoe. , so you'll see inside there's like a cup that you just put that part in, once that part is in and you also put the spring in, you'll know exactly where it lines up because the spring rolls right into the slot and you lock it in nicely.
I didn't remove the top, so the top should be nice and aligned, but just to be sure, let me see if I can remove the top. Okay, I took the top off just to I can put it on top of here because I know the spring is shorter so it might have a different end point than the previous spring and I like that and then bring it back up, put it back here , put the balls back in and we put The tires are low again, we're going good, so to put this in the back, we put this bolt first in the front, the one closest to your rotor before we put the rear one in, so I'm going to put this.
Use the impact wrench again and take it home with a deep socket, we have to use a deep socket for this one. The spring is back in place. The bolt is back in and, in addition to this one here, the muffler, you put it back in place. You have to take out the bolt closest to the resonator and you have to take out the one right next to your active exhaust system. Make sure you unplug it properly, drop the whole muffler out, but put it all back in place. the other side, since I was already on the back and I lift the whole back, all together, I'm going to put the wheel back on by lowering it again, letting it fall and showing you what it looks like, yes sir, that's what I'm talking about, look. in that wheel space now I still have one more wheel left, but you see how it looks, oh yeah, look at that, look at that, come on, that's my kind of wheels, now that's my kind of height, come on, okay guys , finish the whole car this will be cooking with this is the front look how it looks let's go this way it's the next front this is the back look how we balance we're going well so when we started in the back we had six and a quarter now For now we have four and a half, so if you do the difference between before and after we get about 1.75 for the front, we had five and three eighths right now we have three and seven eighths.
Alright, these are all the tools. the equipment that I use during my homework, well these are the old springs right here, uh, floor jack, you know you need a jack, stands for safety, first, air-powered impact wrench, anyway, the tape measure to measure the tires, wd-40 for the nuts, a light. you need the spring clamps, you need them for sure, the breaker bar ratchet, you need a 5 8 and a half inch, you need these extenders, you need a 14 millimeter, 16 millimeter, 18 millimeter ratchet, this is my tire lock, 22 millimeter deep socket, 18, if you can get it. Deep sockets would be preferred, but you need a deep socket for the rear.
You really need a deep socket for the rear and front. There are some bolts that these could not support. You can't use them. the bolt is too long so you need a deep socket you gotta have the knife handy and some hammers pump that stuff man they would be tough I'm hot it's hot in Florida man I'm all dirty I've been underground I know, hey. but everyone sees my car, I'm satisfied
