video I made about a month ago. I got great feedback on it about two weeks ago and it's been a huge success. My next door neighbors threw about ten pounds of elk over the fence. I did some research and they came up with a great marinade. for game like venison, bison, and elk, so you'll want to check it out, but today I'll be reviewing this product here, the Cabela's Jerky Cutting Board, so if you've made jerky before or have thought about purchasing it. in making jerky and you've been wondering about a product similar to this one or this one here, you're going to want to check this out and see what it's all about, so let's go in and sit down and unpack this thing and see what it is. inside and then head to the kitchen.

I'm using my new knife for unboxing. I found my handy dandy Rough Rider Teddy Roosevelt edition hidden in the back of a drawer. If you are interested in this knife, you can find it at Rough Rider Knives, don't worry, okay, the contents seem to be packaged well, let's get this out and we'll start with a one page booklet with three steps and then we have a 10 inch fine. edge knife as the Cabela's name is engraved on the blade then we have a meat holder to protect your hands it says Cabela's and then we have the inserts which are used to control the depth for different widths of slices and then the tray stainless steel has the name Cabela engraved on it and it also has non-slip rubber feet or pads on the bottom and it can be hard to tell but here on one side it says this side up to four quarters of an inch and on the other side it says this side. up to an eighth of an inch and then you have the three-eighths of an inch cut and then if you want to make the three-quarters of an inch cut, you're going to cut with the knife on the top of the rails to make it look like a pretty sturdy unit, the rails they're kind of firm, they don't reveal too much and overall it seems to be a good quality tool so let's go to the kitchen and cut up some jerky okay so it came with a 10 inch fine edge knife that is It felt pretty sharp, but I have a ceramic knife sharpener on the counter, so I thought I'd run it through the sharpener just a few passes to make sure it has a good edge, good enough, so we have 4 3/4 cuts 3/8 1/4 and 1/8, so to get the 3/4 cut you will leave the insert out, which is this one here, and you will place the knife on top of the rails instead of under the rails, and Make a first cut and we'll see how it works with a very sharp knife, so there is a three-quarter thickness of the cut.

I'm going to place them and compare them. The next thickness would be 3/8, so to make 3/8 and it tells you in the pan here to do the 3h you are going to put the knife under the rails so there is 3/8 let's make another cut let's make a cut with the green that it's cut 3/8 across the grain so the next The size or thickness is 1/4 inch and it's hard to see on camera, but it says this side up 4 quarters of an inch so we'll put the insert there. Let's make a cut against the grain and it's actually a quarter of an inch.

It would be the ideal cut for me if I were making jerky, so this would be the setting I would use. Let's do a quarter inch with the grain, okay, so that's a quarter inch with the grain and then for an eighth of an inch, sign up for an eighth of an inch we'll put it in there, let's cut an eighth of an inch against the grain, which is pretty thin, let's do an eighth of an inch with the grain, okay, an eighth of an inch with the green again, that's pretty thin, so let me go in and cut some slices.
I'm going to flip it over and use the quarter inch spacer and then we'll compare all four thicknesses and talk about them in a minute. Okay, let's look at the different cuts up close, this one is 3/4 inch and then we have 3/8 and then we have a quarter inch and then 1/8. One of the flaws of this unit is this plastic insert. Now this insert has one deeper side, it's deeper than the other one, the other one is actually flat, and there's no ridge. here, this side, which is a quarter inch, is actually deeper and there's a ridge on it, the problem is when you have it on its back like this and you push it down with the flesh, you're actually compressing this plastic and in essence, you're just making it almost the same, the thicknesses will be almost the same because when you compress this plastic tray for home use, it's perfect, you'll get uniform sizes every time you don't.
I have some complaints with this. I would like to point out that the rubber feet do not slide on the countertop at all. I mean, this is rock solid. When I apply a little downward pressure, this thing doesn't move, so I don't know how. The rubber feet will last a long time, but like new, they grip the counter very well and here I'm just going to demonstrate the meat holder that they give you, instead of

cutting

your fingers, you can put it on the meat and this. It's that 3/4 slice and we'll see that it grabs the meat very well, there are little spikes on the bottom here that grab it.
I just cut off that 3/4 that we had and let's make the big piece here. I will do this by using the grain on the meat holder and in fact using the meat holder works better than using my hands. Good size, well friends, there we have it. I'll give you my last idea. I think for 39.99 I think it's great. deal, it's not commercial grade, don't think it is when you buy it if you want to make this to make some jerky at home and have nice, fairly uniform cuts, it works perfect if you're looking for something to do on a commercial level then definitely you're not going to want to buy this, you're going to want to upgrade to a commercial grade jerky cutter, but you know this is great, I mean, you can throw this in your vehicle when you go hunting, take it on your hunt. cabin you don't have to plug it in this unit is a keeper.
I am happy with it and I give it the thumbs up. I recommend Cabela's cutting
