Yamaha THR-II: Worth The Hype?! | Friday Fretworks

Apr 30, 2024
Hi guys, I'm Chris Buck, a live area, a warm welcome to the works of the Ferrara fraternity in this video, so from the cast aside to a back room of the house because the bill that is located currently on the front lines trying to recreate the entirety of the crashed World War II soundtrack, we'll take a look at the new Yamaha thr market and ultimately try to answer the question: is it

worth

all the

hype

? So the first clip you'll see is taken from a video I recorded. A few months ago with the incredible Mr. Pete Thorne asked, oh man, TG u19 in Germany, Tom, would I head to university, also the only form of university I've been interested in, basically, where me and the people around you for the current type of major selection, I guess , from home to small use. practice apps with the intention of trying to figure out which one would come out first and which one was our favorite and the reason I included this in this video is because it was actually the first time I tried a Yamaha EHR, I admit it was an older iteration , but I guess the principle holds up, you can see how good it sounded in the room and also my first kind of real time experiences and impressions are great now as I said it was an early version of the CHR but it intrigued me enough. start trying to get one so here I am now a few months later with the new 30 watt mark two thr 30 version basically like I said it's trying to figure out if I found any practical application for this if it has inspired me to play at home like I expected it to, and ultimately I think the most important information for any news about the little team is how it sounds now.

The first thing I noticed when taking this out of the box is that the new version actually has preset capabilities now, if I'm completely honest I was a little skeptical about how much use I would actually get from them. I guess part of the fun of a practice amp like this or a home use amp is having the ability to just open it up and dial in a tone that the player feels inspired by at the time, however, that being said, the ability to go deeper in this with the app or the type of software that Yamaha provides has really made the process an invaluable experience.

More Interesting Facts About,

yamaha thr ii worth the hype friday fretworks...

I'm dialed for free, which I'll explain to you in due time and this video, but it basically means that if I'm using this in a capacity where I really have that much time to try to dial. a good sound, you know, I find it particularly inspiring, I mean if I'm going over something in a dressing room very quickly before the show or it could happen quickly that I'm still rehearsing having the ability, I just press a button and I get a sound that I know. Sounds somewhere close to what I'm looking for have proven to be incredibly invaluable, as I said, the ability to dive into the app as well and they're things that can't be accessed from the top panel, although I suppose that could be interpreted as as a disadvantage.

I guess on the plus side it doesn't mean you won't really suffer from option paralysis. We were just looking at the dial on a quick sound, but if you're really looking to dig into maybe the tone of the reverb or the tap tempo of the delay that I've seen, there's also a tap tempo button on the top of the thr, but there's a a lot of things that you can't access from the top panel. having the app and the presets is incredibly useful now in regards to other features, obviously we have the stereo on the back of the headset as well as a USB, and that's what you'll really hear from what I do, close up videos and personal. a little bit later, but we also have an auxiliary and we have headphones, but it's also very interesting, now we have bluetooth.

I'd be lying if I said I've been using this in probably the capacity it was primarily intended for. It's for listening to audiobooks from my phone or music and stuff like that, but obviously I guess the infinitely more practical application and that respect is being able to play backing tracks through it or maybe your favorite tracks that you just want to play along with and then have Independent volume controls also for audio level and guitar level is really a cool feature and gives you a very immersive experience. I guess you can dive into the mix if maybe you're not as sure as I want you to be.
It sounds like you were using this at a point where you were in the learning phase, or maybe go a little more prominent and really isolate any mistakes you're making, like I said. There are many that would be valuable and save me all the nonsense I did with high fives, iPods, auxiliary cables and all that kind of stuff, a very, very cool feature, lastly, in terms of features, it is also

worth

the worth mentioning the fact. that this new version actually has all the old iterations of the thr together in one, there is a very common criticism of the previous versions is that if you wanted the high version of the game or you wanted the boutique version or you wanted the classic version you had to buy three amps separate, they put it as a toggle, it's that word, it's now an option on top of this amp and again, I've actually used them all to some extent in the presets that I've dialed in, so that's cool.
Now, features aside, I guess the most important type of information for any musical equipment, whatever it is, is how it sounds now, like I said, it really impressed me and how much it has inspired me to practice. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to picking up a guitar and practicing it for the sake of practicing. I guess part of the downside of being a professional musician in any capacity is that I tend to spend a lot of the day with a guitar. in my hands and I guess that's practice in a sense, but when it comes to picking it up and working on something I really want to work on, I'm a little lazy, it's kind of like an expiration or impetus to do it when you get through most of it. of the day with a guitar in your hands anyway and whether that means having to assemble the propeller and the electric cabin or my full kit and a pedal board, to be honest it's just a pain in the ass, so having this on hand with a couple of cool sounds already built in is really good, I found myself practicing a bit more and the fact that they then sound so good and act very much like an amplifier, it's a very cool sound clip that I'm going to play now, I hope you see that it cleans very well.
There's a good amount of gain in this preset, but dialing back the volume on the guitar gives you that kind of amp-like control of your sound. I guess again and again, if it weren't for the fact that I knew the orange glow coming out of the front of the album wasn't from a valve, I'd probably believe it, otherwise, now, for the muxu cynics of course, I do a lot. working with Yamaha, so I suppose a caveat is in order in that regard if you choose to ignore everything I have or am about to say with a pinch of salt that it is entirely your prerogative but as I have also said on previous occasions, no I don't do videos, demos or reviews of pieces of gear I don't like, so the fact that I'm sorry is a testament to how incredibly impressed I am, but I've also been around this with the movement I think it makes. a USB recording or stereo in the back gives you a sort of general impression of what it actually sounds like to be in the room;
This is a completely different experience in many of the videos you see from where the microphone is placed for recording. It actually has two microphones on the front and the reason is that it needs to be in stereo, so sitting in front of this amp in your bedroom, in your office or anywhere else in your living room is a completely different experience than will have. I'll be listening on the USB recording, but I guess that's a key part. A key fundamental part is being able to take it out of this and maybe reamp it if you want to do this.
You can actually hear a flat voice in the front. turn off the cockpit sim if you want something use an IR of your own choosing on all the group software it's just a lot of stuff in this which is an incredibly impressive feature set because I guess you don't know it's not that much money all things considered, it's quite a good portion, but considering what you get for the money and how good it sounds, I would say it's very good money, a lot of money well spent, I should tell you regarding any criticisms or negatives I have, It would be very To be honest, I'm reluctant to use the word negative as I don't really think there's anything I would personally add to this app, but a couple of common criticisms I've read are that there is no taxi ride.
I'm not sure when it really is. One possibility with an application like this, obviously, we have stereo output if you want to run it in the front of the house or on the mixing board or on some kind of external monitor, but I suppose having the capacity it will actually work four by 12 or even two by twelve. disabling this would be awesome, but whether that's actually a possibility or not I don't know, it would be great. I assume having a footswitch to be able to toggle through the process, but again I'd say that probably alludes to a live functionality or a Live Capability, so I probably wouldn't use this because it's definitely not loud enough to overcome the loud drummer level, so I won't use it live in that sense, but I really don't think that's what's intended. and lastly I suppose it would be cool to have the functionality of a built in looper, that would be great but again I suppose in terms it would involve some level of pedal changing which would only increase the price so in that sense nothing is missing which I would call comprehensive, so there you have it, hopefully it has given you an overview of how good this sounds and like I said, I guess the proof is in the pudding and The fact that I found myself playing infinitely more guitar around the house and practicing, really practicing is a testament to how good and inspiring this sounds, it's obviously battery powered too so if you're looking to get this out busking it would be a really good option. app for it and also a fuse on the 6g t10 relay line.
You can actually use this wirelessly and there are also a lot of apps for this that I think are very inspiring and like I said within a few weeks I've had this. I have a ton of use for it now, so I guess that's all you need to know about it. As always, thank you very much for watching this. It has been Friday for external work. I should see you next week for another one. episode greetings guys take care and see you soon
