4 kids vanish from locked cars missing 411 part 10...

John Sullivan, who was with his nephew Lauren Sullivan, who was. They were only three years old, they were driving together in the middle of the Nevada desert, they were about 150 miles from Reno in this very remote area. John was a gold prospector and he was headed to an area that he wanted to explore and see if it was an appropriate place to look for gold. This area, the roads didn't even reach it. You had to drive down this road where there were dead ends in the middle of the desert, right near this huge steep mountain range, at which point you needed to park your car, get off and then walk over this hill right in front of where the road ends and He was going to be on that hill looking down this valley where John wanted to prospect, so he drives down the road, parks the car and turns to Lawrence and says, Hey, I'm going to go up this hill for a minute and check the area.

I'll be back in just a couple of minutes. Stay here, don't leave the car. I will be right. When John gets out, he locks the car, walks to the top of the hill and turns around, looks at Lawrence and waves at him. Lawrence looks at his uncle and he waves back and smiles, an interaction so clear that Lawrence knows where John is and where John is going John can clearly see Lawrence there's no one in the area either I'm talking this is as remote as it can be you're right up against this mountain that's the only thing going on in this area so john turns his back.

In Lawrence, he goes up the hill, he's now out of sight of the vehicle and he does a brief inspection of this area he wanted to prospect. He walks back up the hill and immediately sees that the door is now open and Lawrence is there. he's no longer in the vehicle jon isn't immediately concerned because it's only been a couple of minutes he can't have gone very far and there's not even anywhere to go there are no trees i mean basically it's just this mountain right here but beyond the mountain there is really nowhere to go so go down, look inside the car, look under the car, he is shouting for Lawrence, there is no response and the sound carries very well in this area after a while and no He can't hear anything, he hasn't seen Lawrence, he's just getting started. get really desperate because they're in the middle of nowhere and the temperatures are going to drop well below freezing at night, so john has to make this totally painful decision to get in his car, drive and get help, so who leaves lawrence because he can't find him, he gets help, the sheriff comes out and they start a massive search for this kid all this time.
John is convinced that someone had to kidnap him because Lawrence knew where John was if he wanted to get out of the vehicle, say. He would have walked over the hill to where John was. John was just over the hill. It doesn't make any sense that Lawrence would go out and wander in a different direction. He would have gone with John. They were very close. he might have wanted to see what he was doing on the other side of the hill, in the early days of the search they can't find any footprints of the boy or another person who could potentially have kidnapped him or even footprints of an animal that could have been taken from Lawrence, They just didn't find anything, but that was it, there's no other evidence to go on, so after four days of searching, the newspapers started running headlines about a possible eagle swooping down and taking Lawrence away because that's all which could be speculated given that there were no footprints anywhere and that his hat had fallen off at that moment the police feel totally helpless they do not understand how this child managed to evade capture they are not ready to accept that an eagle has taken him and so the police bring in a Native American tracker who was known in the area as an exceptional tracker, so this tracker comes in and manages to find a

part

ial trail of this boy and starts following him and they succeed.
Seven miles from where this boy disappeared and the tracker starts climbing up the side of this cliff, they have to bring climbing equipment to climb this cliff, they're going up 1400 feet up this cliff, so over a quarter mile they're climbing. steep cliff with climbing gear and they get up there and there's a little shelf, a little rocky shelf that this tracker has taken them to and sure enough, on this shelf is Lawrence and he's more or less unharmed, he's sleeping but he's on this little shelf had him leaning against this tree, but interestingly the tree had an arch that was quite springy and had clearly been placed over his neck, basically trapping him against the mountain, it was like he had fallen into a trap because the police said. that if he had moved suddenly he would have broken his neck the way it was positioned, so the police carefully undo the branch and take the boy down, which was a total task considering how far away they were and he is unharmed, he has a couple of scratches on the face.
That's it, you have no idea how it got seven miles away and then 1,400 feet up a steep cliff, 1,400 feet up a steep cliff that adults needed climbing equipment to get to, and then, what? How did you survive the sub-zero temperatures you were in? here for almost a week, no one knows, on October 19, 1973, James and Carol Duffy decide they want to go camping, so they have this big caravan and they load up their two children, Jimmy, who was two years old, and Natalie , which was just over a year old. They load them into the RV along with their two cats and head to Lake Wenatchee, which is in Washington state.
It is a beautiful campground where many people with RVs park right in front of this lake, so they come to Lake Wenatchee. They park their RV, everyone gets out, they go for a little walk, but the

kids

seem restless, so Carol and James decide to let them take a nap. Carol takes the

kids

inside the RV, she puts them down for a nap. There with the two cats, she closes and locks the RV and leaves, at which point James says he wants to go explore a good hunting spot near where they were camping, so James leaves and is looking for a place to go to. hunt and Carol decides she is going to walk around the lake a bit, but keeping an eye on the RV the entire time and James was also in sight of the RV and after about 15 minutes, James returns to the RV and checks on children.
He would say that he saw James doing that and looked to get James' okay to make sure the kids were okay. James enters. The children are sleeping. The cats are sleeping. James gets out of the caravan, closes it and locks it. and he sees carol, she's about 100 feet away, so a little over 300 feet away, he gives her a thumbs up and then walks over to her, so now he's going for a walk with his wife, so he walks over to Carol and they are. walking a little further so that they were still only 150 meters away from their caravan when they hear a scream coming from their caravan, when they both turned around, there was a big tree obscuring their view of the caravan, so they kind of ran away.
They return to the road to get a better look at their caravan and all they can see is that the caravan door is now open, so the two of them run towards the caravan. James arrives first, enters and his son Jimmy is gone. His youngest daughter, Natalie, was still sleeping and her two cats were still sleeping. He remembers that Carol and James were on the other side of this lake, about 100 yards away, when they heard this screech coming from the RV. It seems strange that the cats and Natalie didn't do it. They wake up to that, but they didn't after an initial frantic search of the area where they can't find Jimmy or any sign of Jimmy, they call the police, they show up and start searching themselves and after two hours of aggressively combing .
In this whole camp and talking to all the other people that were there, there weren't many people there, so they were able to interview everyone and everyone had an alibi. No one was near his caravan. The police became very suspicious of Carol and James. and in fact, they directly accuse James of hurting his son and trying to cover it up, but James and Carol swear that they were on the other side of the lake, there they heard that scream, they ran over, this is what we found and so on for four days . There's a massive search with canine helicopters, whatever, they're combing the area, they're interviewing everyone they can, there's nothing, no sign of this kid, so the suspicion that Carol or James had something to do with it.
This boy's disappearance only grew and so eventually both parents were given a polygraph test and they both stuck to their story and they both approved they had nothing to do with their son's disappearance they were telling the truth the police still felt that there was something strange here about these parents that must have had something to do with this and so they really dug into their background and family background, talked to friends and family and every person in the circle of this family and even the outer circle. said no, they care about their children, they would never hurt Jimmy, but through their One thing that came up is that Jimmy was actually considered a very fragile child who basically couldn't do anything without help, so between the polygraph test that rules out the parents as potentially responsible and now this information that Jimmy was so fragile. child who is also two years old, right, he did not open the caravan to escape and then evade this massive search effort.
You know that didn't happen either, so all you're left with is kidnapping, but the police basically cordoned off this entire place. and we were able to account for every person who was in the park at any time while the duppies were there and every person had an alibi and was completely verified, eventually the search for Jimmy ended and to this day, almost 50 years later, he still I have no idea what happened to Jimmy, where he went and how he got there late at night on March 26, 1962. The Crawford family living in Tennessee noticed their one-year-old daughter was sick and wanted to take her to the hospital. doctor's office.
Mrs. Crawford gets in the car with her one-year-old son and they bring in her three-year-old daughter named Faye. They drive to the doctor's office. It turns out that the one-year-old will be fine. They give the children some. with medication, they return to their house and when they reach the driveway, Mr. and Mrs. Crawford turn around, the one-year-old is awake but three-year-old Faye is fast asleep, so the parents They look and say it's okay. We'll take the baby inside, give Faye a couple more minutes to sleep in the car, and then we'll get out and pick her up so Mr. and Mrs.
Crawford can carefully take the one-year-old out without waking her. Fae they close the door, they lock it, the windows are open, they go into the house, they put their one-year-old son down and literally, maybe a couple of minutes go by, they come out and the doors are still closed, but Faye is already It is gone. Because the vehicle was still closed, they think, "Oh, she must have gotten out of her seat and maybe she's stuck under the seats, so they run and look inside and are nowhere surprised to find that she's not there." is in the vehicle, so the vehicle itself had.” only two doors, there were two rows of seats, but only two doors, if you were in the back seat like Faye, you would have to push down, fold down one of the two front seats and then open that door to get out, but both door handles doors were on. the interior was broken, it didn't work, you would have to manually roll down a window and then get out of the car and use the outside door handle to open either door so the parents look at the vehicle and the doors are closed, the windows are Upstairs, everything is still closed, and while it's possible that Faye theoretically could have gotten out of the car seat, folded down, one of the two front seats, lowered, a window extended, opened. He opened it, the door came out, he rolled up the window, he pushed the lock down. manually and then close the door again, that is possible, it is extremely unlikely and she had never done it, she had not even disassembled her own seat let alone that complicated maneuver of getting out and closing the door again and locking it, so obviously they call to the police. show up, they're searching the area, they can't find this kid and then it starts snowing and the temperatures start to drop so the police and volunteers stay outside all night, there's no sign of this kid and the Crawfords They are preparing for the worst the next day around 11am. three miles from where faye disappeared she walks onto someone's property she was barefoot but she was more or less okay obviously the parents are elated, they are very happy that their daughter is okay now normally when someone goes

missing

the investigation stays open until they are discovered if they are discovered alive even if the circumstances are really strange because they are alive, it more or less ends the investigation because what are you looking for at this point, they are discovered to be alive, everything is fine, it is rare that an investigation continues after being found and in this case the police left the investigation open because they could not understand how Faye could have gotten out of that vehicle considering how difficult it would have been and how she got three miles away in less than 12 hours in the middle of the night walking through a forest without mentioning that historically children are creatures of habit if they are missing and they are in the middle of the forest but it is night they don't just keep walking, they lie down and go to sleep and then when the sun comes up they get up and then they keep moving, so for her to have traveled three air miles from where she disappeared to this farm, that means she didn't lay down and go to sleep, she kept walking all night, so none of that added up and then when she told him They asked Faye what happened, she just smiled and laughed, that's all they could get out of this kid, so despite leaving the investigation open, no one came to any kind of conclusion as to how. she got out of that car and how she covered that distance or why is just a big mystery like all these 411 missing cases in 2001 paul weymout was 37 years old he was a construction worker who lived in salt lake city and was about to get his He was divorced for the second time in his first marriage.
After the divorce he obtained sole custody of his four children. He was a great father. The judge saw it that way and said that the children were better off with him and after this second divorce he would file an exclusive lawsuit. custody of the child they had together, which was a two-year-old boy named Gage and he would win, so Paul is a single father of five children. Gage was much younger than the other four children, so he became Paul's little one. friend and went everywhere with paul. They were very, very close on October 25, 2001. Paul grabs Gage, puts him in the back of his truck, buckles him into the car seat, and the two of them head to this area where Paul would hunt deer.
It was actually a private deer hunting area that was completely enclosed by a fence. Now, in order to access this private area, you needed to be a member and Paul was a member, and once you become a member, they give you a door code, so Paul and Gage drive, get to the door, enter the code , he opens the door, the two of them walk in, he said he closes the door and locks it and the two of them head down this path towards this area where he planned to search. When a deer parked the car he saw that Gage had passed out in his seat and he just didn't look like he was going to be in the right mood to get out and go look for the deer.
Paul thinks about it for a minute and decides you know. What I'm going to do is leave Gage in the back seat, I'm just going to close and lock the car, he's warm, he's taken care of. I'm going to spend just a couple minutes looking for deer and then I'll come back and get him, so he jumps out, locks the car and walks a little ways away from the truck, where it's still right behind him, but a couple more hunters who were in this area saw Paul, called him and started. talking he gets worried and after about 30 minutes he realizes he needs to go back and check on his son and when he comes back the front door on gage's side is open and gage is gone paul runs to the vehicle and can't .
I think Gage is gone. Paul shouts for the other hunters to come help him. He says I can't find my son. They begin searching the area. Apparently, Paul was so heartbroken that he began vomiting. He was totally hysterical and kept going. saying it's my fault, it's my fault, I left it here, the police show up and a massive search starts, but you have to remember this is a closed area, everything is

locked

, you need to have a code to get in here and the only people who apparently they were in this place at the time were the other hunters that paul was talking to and obviously that sheds a lot of light on those hunters and paul being responsible for what happened to gage, but initially they just focus on looking for this kid and then a little bit of searching and there's absolutely no sign of this kid, they turn on Paul, he says, do you know what would happen if something happened to my son?
It's my fault, I left it in the vehicle, it's my fault, like I'm not defensive at all, it's 100% saying it's my fault I did this. He's not saying he hurt my son, but he's taken full responsibility for what happened and the police realize that and they're like, "You know what I think," and he's telling the truth and he's saying that too. he was with those other hunters and they are the only ones here, so for four days a massive search was launched throughout this entire hunting area, even beyond the hunting area, and there is no sign that this boy has escaped. gone, so they end the search.
But Paul's church offered to send another 150 volunteers to continue the search and one of those volunteers was a man named James Wilkes. He was an avid outdoorsman and brought along his dog and during the course of the search, James and his dog. In fact, getting lost, which David Pollatus says is very rare, there are so many people searching at the same time that it would be difficult to get lost, but it happens, so James and his dog end up miles away from where they were supposed to To be looking for. I don't know where they are, they're lost and that night the temperatures are dropping, it's snowing and James and his dog ended up going under a tree in this little pocket under a tree and they snuggled together all night and James said it was one of The worst nights of his life he didn't sleep much but at some point in the morning when the sun started to come up he was happy to be alive you know he didn't die of hypothermia and he and Dino started walking and They only walked for a couple of minutes when the dog stops and starts licking something on the ground and looks down and under a couple inches of snow is the body of Gage James, he picks up the body and for hours they start walking back nicely.
Generally, where he thinks he needs to go, he ends up finding a fence that he recognized and since he was tired of carrying the boy, he placed the boy's body near a fence post that he knew he might recognize and he and Dino headed to the search and rescue headquarters and told them where to find the boy's body and they went back and picked up the boy's body now, because James is the one who found the boy, they immediately had to treat him like a suspect. You gave him the polygraph because you found the child, no one else found him, you are very far from the search, but he passed the polygraph.
James would tell the police that when he found the body there were all these footprints around the body that looked like dog tracks. but they weren't dinosaurs and he knows they weren't dinosaurs because he was holding the dinosaur all night and he hadn't been in this

part

icular area the night before, so the researchers think that if there were other dog tracks all over that area, it means one, we looked for it, but if we looked for it, why didn't they detect the child who they are trained to smell or what animal it was? Did it have anything to do with why Gage is here in the first place after the autopsy? it was determined that gage died of hypothermia his father was absolutely devastated you know he spent all this time at the site where his body was found he created a sanctuary for his son he was known to spend hours in his vehicle trying to figure out how his son su son stood up from his seat and then walked out the front door, something he had never seen his son do.
He was totally devastated and eventually he was charged with negligent homicide and he pleaded guilty to it and was given 30 days in jail, but before his sentence was carried out, he took his own life, so like all the cases that David Politis covers in the defunct 4-1-1 series, we have many questions left and unfortunately they may never be answered, but that doesn't stop us from speculating, so please enter the comments and give me your best theory about what is happening, how Is it that these children get out of these vehicles and end up in places that seem impossible to reach?
I will not only respond to all the first comments. The best theory will be posted at the top of the comments section.
