I mean, he really delivers what he really promises here, so I mean the title matters, it brings you in, it's another way to start the speech by grabbing his attention and getting me interested. The last night of my 25th college reunion there was a party in a tent, there was dancing, music and noise, so much noise that many of us started leaving the tent. we could hear each other talk and catch up with classmates we hadn't seen in over two decades pause and then start with a story notice how he does it he goes to center stage takes a moment composes himself and then starts with a story very detailed descriptive, very specific, and he makes it so that you can really see what he's talking about when he describes it.

See how this draws you in, it interests you, it's a great way to start filtering through decades. While talking to my friends, I made a surprising discovery. 80% of them were not happy with their outgoing language. Notice how he says and we find a surprising discovery. This is very much a TED talk of sorts and we found something we couldn't believe you'd be interested in. I want to hear more, so what was the surprising discovery you want to know right after he says that? So, I have this main language again. Actually, he doesn't tell you anything yet, but he interests you.

He makes you want to listen more. keep listening, life is about now. I had the privilege of going to Yale and we were standing on a summer afternoon in the middle of the old Yale campus. From the beginning I noticed how this happens quite early. He says and I was lucky enough to go to Yale. Great, now we know you went to Yale, so we were confident or at least a little more interested. We know you're not just any guy off the street. Okay, at least we know this guy is someone who went to an Ivy League school, so he gives it to us early instead of late just to build a little credibility and make us trust him a little more power missions and they had the first house and the second house and they had the first spouse and the second spouse and 80% of them were not happy with their lives, funny with the language.

Notice here, he says they have had multiple homes or their second home and were with their second spouse. I know this is something like that. silly but at the same time it could have been and they had two houses but they were very sad and they got two divorces and that was horrible too right but the houses and the spouses rhymed we're talking about something serious but we're still having some fun so keep it light even though it's kind of a discussion about how people aren't happy with their own lives and 80% of them weren't happy with their lives.
Who was happy with 20%? Well, we had studied statistics to increase the importance. Now notice what he's doing here, he says 80% of the people, I guess five people are right, they just walked out of a tent, it's not like he has a huge sample, there's probably five and four of them, here's something or they didn't know something and then one of them did it or maybe there were ten people, eight and two, right, but it's not a huge sample, but when you say it as a percentage, it seems like maybe it's a little more important, It almost seems like this is some kind of research study. that is fulfilling their purpose in life because they knew five things who they were what they did who they did it for what those people wanted or needed and what they got out of it how they changed as a result a preview of what is coming notice here he gives us the shows the different elements that we are going to explore one by one as the speech progresses, by doing this it gives us a sort of road map, it also gives us something to look forward to and again another reason to keep listening. to this speech now you are going to know the purpose of your life now in the next five minutes would you like to know the purpose of your knife in the next five minutes?
Can you speak a little louder because they are making a lot of noise in the store? and there's just a silly little microphone next to my cheek to listen to you. Would you like to know who your next offender will be? the purpose of your life in the next five minutes thank you leave the audience notice here it says how many of you want to know the purpose of your life? I will say that yes, if you did this in a kind of small room and there were only a few people or like in a conference room or something, it would be pretty unpleasant, but it's fine for a giant stage like that and also if you're the type of person who feels comfortable doing it, it's not for everyone, but in this case it makes you want to listen to what you're watching at home on YouTube a little more and you say, "Hey, okay, I'll still want to." to know more i want to know my life purpose so i will keep listening to this so he asked that question we said yes and then we continued watching well i know some people who have spent their whole life trying to learn their purpose of life and look, we can all agree that an unexamined life is not worth living, but if we put the language together, I love this phrase, you will hear speakers say it from time to time and we can all agree that we all we can agree that blah.
Blah blah, this is one of those things where you can't really choose as your audience number. I agree? I disagree? But in this case, we were just assuming it and then it builds a relationship, it builds a connection, it feels like we're all on the same page together and then if I'm okay with this, then it's like he knows I'm okay with it. with this. Okay, great, so we all agree this was a good point. Fantastic, everyone just did something that people. whoever went to Yale couldn't understand it for 25 years, congratulations, give yourselves a hand, make your audience feel good or smart, this is always something that, if it comes across honestly, is always a good strategy now, if it comes across as a little strange, false, then It's not a good strategy, but if you feel that the person really respects us, really thinks that we are this happy, smart, wonderful person, that has talent or something like that, it feels good when someone says that about us, so It's never like that.
It is bad to include it again in a speech. This was a video about how to know your life's purpose in five minutes. This was at the TEDx Malibu event a while ago. It has over 13 million views, which is crazy if you really think about it. That and hopefully now you'll be able to use some of the strategies you learn from the speaker in your own speeches and maybe your videos will have 14 million views, so maybe just use this with a couple of people you care about. and it will make a difference, so I hope it was great and I hope you have a wonderful day.
