walk alone these are dogs I can take him for a walk alone but it still doesn't work literally we didn't know it's a cube please finish it what happened to it I want to see it isn't it true hi my name is Kelsey and my my name is Becky and we are the girls lo sorry, we're making that video again ooh, that awkward video where we admit what our DIY fails and I think that comes along with being a good DIY, being an honest person. Oh, right, and I obviously like that. We went to our Instagram, if you don't follow us, follow us in a circle so you can be a part of fun things like this and asked you to tell us what DIYs you think we could have done better, yes, and we had sown our own personal thoughts too , so I think let's go straight to the first one that you guys already know is coming.

Yeah, this stump is fine, so we're back with the West Elm side table that you guys knew would be in this video. because I told you I didn't want to wait and I still wanted to finish it, so here we are today and many of you in the comments said please finish it, what happened to it, I want to see it, yes, you should leave it. Dry all of these things that we're covering today in this video, so it's been about a month since the first video. This is what we are trying to recreate a very expensive side table from West Elm.

More Interesting Facts About,

more diys that kinda flopped...

A month has passed. It's been sitting next to our radiator, which means it's okay to dry it, so let's move on. I think I'm still going to add up the totals on this because I want to finish the topic of the video where I was arrested last. Time was peeling away from the crust, so I'll continue with that. This is like the whole outer layer that we want to be satisfied. Okay, all the big pieces of bark are out and the next step is to take a sander and separate it. Any remaining part, I'm starting with a very heavy duty grit sandpaper, this one is 60, and I'm just going to make it nice and smooth, so the stump we need a better word for this guy, our beautiful piece of wood here It has been sanded nicely. soft and yes, you can still see the different similar tones of the wood, but I think it is beautiful, the last step will be lacquering it, is it for her?, for him, we don't know, we don't care.

I'm going to use this bear and the satin. I like satin. Listen to the podcast to hear us talk about satin finishes. I like satin because it's not too shiny. I think super shiny things sometimes look cheap, but it's a bit, they are durable and longer lasting too. It's matte, so I'm going to use a brush to paint a little bit of shine. Oh my god, it's not glitter. I just don't like the shine. I'm going to use a brush to paint over this bear that has a very professional transparent finish, satin water. Vera Thayne based hairspray of that type.

I'm going to use a brush to paint this very thin clear lacquer on our nice side table, boy, okay, so after a couple of coats of the clear finished stump it's complete and finished, it feels really. really nice, this top is very smooth, especially because it's very thin, it looks very nice, it looks finished, the colors are all over the place, but I guess that's what you get with natural wood and I think it's fun and it adds character so old fashioned way you know how much style because that's what the video was supposed to be about let's add up the total and see how it went so we estimate this stump would cost about twenty dollars a can of clear coat finish with $ 16.50 and those are the two. things we had to buy for this, so it cost us a total of $35 and it cost us a total of $36.50 to make our own West Elm inspired log side table.
You can tell us how we did it in the comments below. end up being successful in this DIY. I think we did an amazing job on this, especially considering the savings it costs us to make something similar compared to the very expensive original items, so I think we need this one for the next sale, so for this next flop, we literally didn't know if it was a flop, some of them we know, others, apparently not, all the comments were like these stocking holders weren't cute at all and maybe they should have painted them white and gold, which is funny because sometimes We hate ourselves for painting too many things cold and white, so I'm going to try these socks again.
I actually thought they were cute and we ended up using them in a select style Christmas issue makeover where we did it again. Rachel's space for Christmas. I ended up painting them all white just because the vibe of her Christmas space wasn't light pink and light green. They did get up on bikes for that, but I'll try this whole thing again and see. If I can suddenly pull it off, we all feel redeemed here so I'm going to go to your store and start looking for some items to help me with these socks, why are there always so many of the same things at the thrift store and they apparently last?
Maybe I messed up so maybe I need help. I wonder what will happen to all the Christmas stuff they have here when Christmas is over because I feel like if it's not all sold they're not going to stock it like I feel. like they could consider a tit that was really sad, so okay, it's become an incertum besides my knee, so ask Instagram, which has nutcracker angels or strangely round but minimalist animals, okay. I just signed up, let's get going and it looks like the decision is to recycle NAP cookies, which I'm excited about next. I was going to replace the nutcracker's missing limb in addition to making him

prim, but then I realized that it doesn't matter if both arms aren't swollen, even though we might be. there are pieces missing we are still whole he is going to fix his broken ankle then I realized so I have my what was his name I know but it's not true okay so I have my two nutcrackers here they are all bleached I was about to go and add my accents gold, but then I thought I'd wait for LC to probably fix this guy's hair situation, so I have some faux fur here that we had in the office, so I'm going to cut some pieces and give this guy a nice fur synthetic what a nice hairstyle and while I'm at it I'm also going to cut some sherpa to give our snowman back his scarf the spark plug is for the top hat the pipe In fact I'm going to use some of the old brown hair to fill the head so it's not so flat and then I'm going to use my white faux fur and just glue it to the scalp.
He is for the beard. I'm cutting a little piece of rectangle and the key to cutting faux fur is to make sure you go under the hairs that you want your scissors to be as close to the back of the faux fur material as possible so you don't cut the hairs that you just make. I'm sure you're weaving between the faux fur strands, so I went ahead and glued on my beard, my hair, maybe I should have done that, what are you doing? Oh, maybe then I realized that maybe I should have painted first and the hair last, because I didn't cook the beard to paint my gold accent, which is the belt, and then on the snowman I did a gold accent on nose.
I threw a hair clip to the other guys to keep their beards that way, thanks. you only see it in the room it's like that so my little ones are done and ready oh yeah i forgot to mention i gave him a haircut it's hard to cut it but i tried my best and i think everything is like hair Crazy Einstein. It's part of the look, but now it's time for our final step, which is adding our gold sock hooks because who will remember these from the last video? I have a couple left over, so I'm going to glue them to the bottom of my little figurine now and to attach them I'm going to use a two part epoxy, which is the same thing I used last time to attach my stocking, hold it in my cutout on average OOP, I voted, what if I actually didn't?
I realize, then, those are my socks. We got a little improvement. Honestly, I was a fan of the latter. I don't think it was a failure, but you know what the audience wants, so this is my average. headline redo, let me know how if you think I did it in the comments below or not, if it's bad, but you can be honest, I guess it's okay, until the next failure. I know Becky has something up her sleeve, so last one. I have what I call a self admitted DIY mistake, you guys thought this would fail for other reasons and I'm talking about my DIY platform bed, this is one of the things I'm most proud of that we've done.
It was really cool, it's a wooden platform bed and I still use it in my house today and I still love it, but it has one flaw and it's not the flaw that I hit my feet on it and banged my shins all the time. time. time I insert the huge amount of comments that say I would and I wouldn't, it just doesn't happen, it's not a problem, it just doesn't happen, but the problem with this bed is that I built it with a platform that goes around all four sides. of the bed leaves a pretty good space between the mattress and the wall, this is where I lose all our pillows that they like, they fall in there, they get stuck in there and then you try to sleep and all of a sudden you have no pillows left because they are wedged in the space and I have tried to fix this by putting pillows that were designated to be the space pillows, but it still doesn't work.
This bed really needs a headboard and the Another problem with this bed is that it was not designed to have a headboard so there is no natural place to put a headboard that rests on the floor so it's just another problem so that today we will fix that DIY fail by creating a headboard that works perfectly for this bed, this is something I wanted to do anyway; It's great that it fits the team in this video and I'm going to show some inspirational photos of the type of header I want to make, the reason why this one will work.
The work for this bed is because it hangs down instead of being supported by the bed frame which is great because like I said there is nowhere to put a headboard on the bed so basically this headboard is just a kind of two hanging pillows. a very simple rod to make. I'm going to use this brown vinyl as pillows and the first step will be to draw all the different pieces I need to make these pillows. The idea is that they will be a kind of 3D rectangle. pillows so there's a front and a back on one edge that goes all the way around so I'm marking all of those pieces and the back piece will actually be made of two pieces so is there a way to fit the foam insert into these . pillows on our blog.
I'm going to list the exact exact dimensions of all of this if you want to go ahead and do what I'm doing, but if you just want to see the journey in the process and while I was drawing all the pieces on my vinyl, I went ahead and took out the margin of stitching on all of them, which is half an inch around all the pieces. This is something that is not necessary to do, but allows you to sew straight lines. Making all your pieces is much easier, so once all my pieces are out, the next step is cutting out.
Yes, do something and it's working. It's always a good time, so once you have all the pieces, cut out the ones I'm showing. Here you have all the pieces to make half of this, it's literally the same thing twice, so I'll show you how to make one and then you'll do it all again, so now we have all the pieces for one. It's time to start sewing it all together so this is the front piece that will be the front of the pillow and then the back is made of two pieces that will overlap and this is how we will attach the foam insert inside. the two pieces need to be together so that they are the same size as the other piece and then the first step will be to sew this little bit so that they stay together to form one piece, okay, let's talk about something else that we were called about. and that was the fact that we didn't have a walking foot for our sewing machine.
This was at our house. What episode was I recreating a cb2 pillow and trying to do the stitches like it was a bunch of thick batting? The fabric and sewing machine couldn't handle it and I thought it was due to the age of our sewing machine, maybe I had no idea that walking feet existed and were used on thicker fabrics, but you told me, so I'm here to solve that problem thank you all for letting me know that we now have one for our sewing machine which I will try to use today because this vinyl is quite thick and strong.
I hope it is the solution we are looking for. Next, we move on to the two long strips that we cut. Ideally it would be one long strip, but I didn't want to buy extra fabric when I didn't need it, so the first step will be to sew these two pieces together. to create that long strip, we will then join the two loose ends together and sew them together to create one long continuous strip that will create the rectangular border around the pillow to make it 3D, so now we have that strip sewn together which is the border of this piece, which are our two smallest peaches, joined together to form one piece and then our piecebig front, great, I have it with me, so now it's time to put the border on these two pieces to give it a 3D shape, so this is really simple. you just need to gather a good size of your fabric and sew along the rectangle of the hole that joins this.
I'm glad you're with me, but before we do that, there's one

more

thing we have to do and that's do both. little strip loops so these pills can be hung on a rod to hang with the bed, so if you're following my diagram of the pieces to cut out, you should have these little extra pieces and the ones that we're going to use. to create the loops okay now that the little loops have been sewn they should look like this and that means we have all the pieces ready to start putting this together so I'm going to start with the back but it doesn't matter the back or the front , we have to do both, eventually we will add the trim all the way around to give it a 3D shape and since the pins leave permanent marks on the vinyl, I will use some office clips because they work just as well as the fancy fabric clips and just make sure the is placing well. size of the vinyl together when you do this right, so I'm going to go all the way around and put clips everywhere to hold it together and lastly, don't forget to attach the little straps, just make sure they're in the middle. both layers and they are pointing inwards and that works so once you start around all the edges it should look like this and now it's time to do it again with the front piece the only thing you need to remember here is to fold a little loop. top and make sure you sew it to the other side just like we did on the first side, so again, once we've sewn all the sides, now we have something that looks like this and it's the moment of truth where we give it the return inside out and see if it worked, that was the benefit of having the back made of two pieces because now it's easy to turn it inside out, okay, on to the last step which is to fill this.
Looks great, especially the little loops, very excited. about this, so when it comes to filling this out, you have a couple of different options. You could actually use a regular pillow if you resize it to make it suitable for a pillow or you could use pillow stuffing, but what are we going to do and if I've been sticking with using the dimensions that I give. A two foot by two and a half foot three inch thick piece of foam or upholstery foam will work absolutely perfect for this, so the next step is to just put it through a slit in the back is fine, so once it's done and all of that will look like this and it looks so luxurious and see I can't wait to hang it on my bed, talking about next steps would be for us to create a whole second one, welcome to The World of Movie Magic we've completed it, so you'll need two of these.
The next step is to simply hang it. So how to do it? I'll do it with just a simple curtain rod. I'm adding this one below but you I can use a wooden dowel, any curtain rod will work honestly and I think it makes more sense to hang this in the bedroom so you can see it with the bed frame and see how this glitch was fixed. Yes, see you there. Well, welcome. start installing this so the step will be to hang the curtain rod above the bed so they can hang from it. Next, I'm going to place the head of the cushions on the width and then place the bar on those things.
This is officially no more space, that's beautiful, also just FYI.
