Reattempting the diys you didn't like

Apr 09, 2020
ASMR and it's giving you tingles, you guys told us to never give up, okay, I'm doing yoga over sudden lights, just a great lesson, right? My name is Kelsey, my name is Becky and we are the girls in the story and sometimes. We've made mistakes in life over the years, we've done it like a lot of DIY and not all of them can work all the time, but now I'm going to show you our releases that you think it's interesting to see what happened and what happened. wrong and you talk about the glitches and often get advice on how to fix them in the future in the comments.

Oh, do you ever give us advice? They let us know when we fail or do a DIY. Maybe not the best way, but that's okay. all about the trip yeah so we thought it would be fun today to go back and revisit some of our I couldn't fail and maybe take some tips from you guys and maybe we've learned a little bit more since then and give it a try. redo them again and hopefully this time they won't fail so we have three and I'll start with the first one mm-hmm okay so the first quote unquote mistake I'm going to try to redo today is the shoe tray from the dollar store which I did in the previous dollar store challenge, so I had the idea to go to the dollar store and make this tray full of stones that you put wet shoes on as a kind of place to put dirty shoes in the front aisle and the reason why I have In my opinion, this is because I knew that the dollar store sold certain materials that I could make this with, so that was the plan, but once I got there, the dollar store

didn

't have the stones that I know they carry and they

didn

't have a simple rubber shoe mat, which I don't know why they didn't have and the plan to make the shoe rack was so much in my head that I thought, "I have to find another way to do it." I didn't think of anything else so we made this with glass helps and the pattern was cute.

More Interesting Facts About,

reattempting the diys you didn t like...

I said I liked it, it looks amazing, but then I admitted in a Q&A that I actually didn't like this DIY at all. I hated how it turned out that you once lied about it, yes, you guys in the comments said you didn't like it either and also suggested I do it with something different, so today I'm going to remake it the way I wanted to do it. I went back to the dollar store and they actually had the rocks that I plan to use in that first dollar guitar challenge, so I bought a bunch of them and that's something I can use today, but the rest of the materials.

They're not from the dollar store because I just want to do it the way I wanted to do it. If I'm going to remake it, I might as well remake it into something, but I like something in my house, so I'm doing it. of wood and rocks and make this beautiful rock shoe tray so the plan is to make a wood tray that my rocks can sit on so to do that I have this 1 by 2 inch piece of cedar and then I will make the edges and I have this big piece of quarter inch plywood that I'm going to make the base out of, so I started by cutting all the pieces to assemble this tray, so I went ahead and measured and cut all my pieces. so I have one large piece to be the base of the tray, two smaller pieces for the shorter sides, and two longer pieces for the longer side.

I just want to give a quick shout out to our blog. I love our blog that Daniela runs, it's amazing that she often has it. even more information than we can list in the blog videos so if you want to know the exact measurements of all the numbers of the wood I cut now they will appear on the blog if you want to do it exactly like So go ahead and check out the link to below and give the blog some love, so the next step will be to assemble my tray. It's pretty simple. I'll just use a little bit of wood glue to attach my four side pieces to the base.
I'll use it in combination with a nail gun to make this really simple, but don't worry, you can definitely put some nails in manually to hold it together if you're not comfortable using a nail gun yet. Okay, this is how My tray frame looks very nice so far, this is much more than I expected it to look since the idea of this is to put wet shoes on it. I would need the bottom to be something waterproof so the wood doesn't rot easily, so what I bought at the hardware store is this plastic runner that you would use on stairs, it's very affordable, it's like two dollars a foot, so I'm just going to cut out a rectangle that I can in the bottom of this so that the water can sit on this instead of the wood and then in combination with that, I'm going to use a little bit of silicone to go around the edge just to seal the edge of this. tray so once I sealed everything the edges were completely dry it's time to fill this with stones so on my first try I went in and glued each stone piece by piece but that was because I was creating a pattern and the tray on Yes I didn't really have a way to keep the stones in, but this time, since we created an actual tray, we can just dump the stones in and leave them in, it's much easier than having to glue them together stone by stone.
I just want to say that I am very happy. This is what I was hoping for in my first dollar store challenge. I mean, maybe without the wood because it was a dollar store challenge at the time, but I really wanted these rocks. I love its appearance. I'm just glad I did it. I was able to redeem myself on this one so let me show you how my original not so ideal attempt went and now this is how my DIY Redemption attempt went on this shoe tray. I think I like this current version much more, but it shows.
Me next, well guys, we're back here again. I didn't think we'd be here again, but when we decided to recreate our failed DIY video, we realized that some of you still wanted to see a different method on how to do it. That's so DIY, so I've since learned to say that, so it's not terrazzo and we're also going to try it today without painting because although the final product looked good, it didn't look any more like the traditional way of doing it. and we are still not doing it the traditional way, that way is not very accessible to the average person like me, so today we are going to split some pieces again, which is what I tried the first time but it failed and the second time It failed, but I learned something and that is to use flat objects, so before I used bowls or curved things and placed them on top of the concrete, but this time I will use plates. placing them on the bottom and I'm going to use plaster pairs instead of concrete just because I'm making something a little smaller and it's a little easier to work with plaster of paris compared to concrete, you guys told us to never give up.
I told us to try the resin, which I wanted to try, but honestly, maybe there's another video. I still need to work with the resin. I'm not ready to tackle it full force yet and you also recommended that I put the pieces on the bottom. is what I'm going to try today instead of putting it on top like that, everything comes out a little flatter, less sanding needed, I love it and then the mold for this instead of building it from scratch like I did last time with the wood I'm going to use this frying pan that we bought at the thrift store for a couple of dollars now.
I'm not sure how plaster of paris works with aluminum or metal. I read that you may need a release agent. The jury is still out on the Internet. I couldn't give myself all the answers to my questions, but today I would like to try lining it with wax paper just to make sure it doesn't stick, since I don't want this to be another failure, but it isn't. It's going to be a failure and I'm going to be with you until the end until we figure this out together so my first step is to break so my first step is to break my plates into small pieces so that's it.
I'm simply placing my plates under a piece of cloth to hide all the carbon and then I hit it with a hammer and after doing that a couple of times on each plate I now have my shards or pieces of ratso and I just classified them as really pieces flat and the right shapes that I would like for this and before I put them in my molds, I'm going to lay out some wax paper cut to the right size and then I can go ahead and place them all in the space. I'll take them out how I want them to look and we'll go from there, so with all my pieces meticulously placed where I want them to be, I'll move on to making my plaster of paris the same way you make plaster of paris.
It's two parts of your plaster and one part contains water, but I'm going to make it a little more runny than normal just because I want to make sure it can get in and maneuver around all my little bits and then it can't. move them when I pour it, so that's my plan. Move so I'm pouring the plaster. I find that it's better to do a straight move on top of the pieces instead of throwing them around and having everything come out in a flow because I don't want all the pieces to move and then from there I just tap to settle them a little and I also took an electric sander to the bottom of my metal pan so I could vibrate the air bubbles when I went to remove it from the pan, the good news is that it came out very easily with that wax paper.
The bad news is these other manageable wrinkles in the wax paper, so I added a very thin layer of my plaster of paris on top to fill in. on any of these wrinkles, the good news is that if you already have some type of release spray, you can use that and then you won't have to do this last step where you add to fill in the wrinkles and now my next step is just sand it nice and smooth and reveal all of my layers or pieces so I'm going to go ahead and spray with a clear sealant just to seal everything together make sure it's not chalky or dusty and then my last step is Take some felt pieces and just hot glue some babies of felt on the bottom so that I have little feet for my tray.
I don't even know if I said that, guys, I'm making a tray like a little thing you can put on. On a table you can put your collection of items on it. I think this method worked much better and what I learned was to look at something small, if you are taking on a large project maybe try your method on a smaller shape instead of doing it like a 4 foot table and failing and making a table 4 feet again and failing, so lastly we have the infamous holographic mirror from the Urban Outfitters edition, although if I remember correctly, you guys gave us a lot of technology because we call it holographic and it's actually more like unicorn skin , it is like a mirror coated in purple-pink reflective dye.
We tried to do it using some of that purple pink gift wrapping material that's like clear wrapping paper that Use it for your baskets and all that we tried to put in mod podge and that didn't work so we ended up settling for just taping it around of the mirror, which obviously wasn't cool, you guys knew it wasn't cool, so I'm here. To try and fix it, many of you in the comments had some pretty awesome ideas for how we could fix it. Some said to use a spray adhesive instead of Mod Podge. Some people said they tried taking a piece of glass and using some hollow or unicorn paint and then that mirror spray paint to turn it into a mirror which I thought was pretty interesting and then someone suggested using iridescent tint paper to windows.
I knew window tint existed, but I didn't know it came in iridescent colors. until I looked it up and yes it exists and I think that would work for us today so that's what we're going to try so I was able to find an iridescent window tint. I'll link this on Amazon below if you want. buy it yourself and better yet, we got the exact mirror of that video. We keep it. I removed the paper we used the first time and now we're here to give this its redemption, so I did. I did my research before this because I don't want this to be another failure and I watched a ton of videos on how window tint is actually applied so I'm going to try to recreate it today and explain the process to you as well so the first step will be to measure.
I take out the size of our mirror on this paper and I cut it to have my iridescent tint cut so it's the perfect size and now we need to move on to applying this guy to the mirror, so what I've learned is that it's kind of es It's a three step process, so the first thing you want to do is make sure you clean the mirror or the window or whatever you're sticking this on really well, because if there's dust or dirt or anything like that, it's not going to be flat and we're going to fix it. see, so we're going to use a little bit of glass cleaner and a very soft microfiber cloth to get that mirror as clean as possible and the next thing we want to do is mix in a spray bottle just a mixture of water and a little bit of soap to common dishes when I use this program because it's nice and slick because we're going to spray it onto the mirror so that when you put our film down it has some room to move around and get it in the exact right spot so the window tint actually comes with two sides covered, one side is just one layerplain clear just to protect it from scratches and the other side when we remove it is actually the sticky side of the window tint so I'm going to take off the sticky side piece and spray that on. down with the soap and water mixture, then I'm going to spray my mirror with the soap and water mixture because we want everything to be wet, slippery and easy to put in place once you're happy with the position of the window tint, now It's the moment.
Basically, to drain the extra soap and water mixture so it settles and you can use anything for this, you can buy a fancy squeegee brush or you can use it like a credit card or something with a ruler like this guy and if you If you are worried that it is a little sharp, you can put your microfiber cloth over it to protect it from scratches. Once you have it in place and all the water has been expelled and all the little bubbles are gone, you should let it dry completely, so once you've left the water under the the dye is completely dry it's nice and sticky although we get the Bears like a moment when we remove the top film it feels like when you get like a new electronic device and you can remove that safety film, it's so good, okay, now we have our mirror completed and they look great, guys.
In fact, I think that's how the Urban Outfitters one was made. I think we achieved it. I think we totally redeemed ourselves with this one, but again let's compare how the full mirror turned out with how. I think we won in a DIY, but tell me in the comments below. I think we did better this time. I think you guys, thank you so much for tuning in to our week and recreating our failed DIY, uh, and I'm so happy that it went so much better. time, thanks, yeah, that was a relief because if this was like a second adjustment, I don't even know what they do, they put it in, but there was some botched DIY that you guys thought of that we didn't do this time. please tell me below because this was actually a really fun video mm-hmm and it really boosted my confidence knowing that I could achieve them the second time so I'm not opposed to doing it again that's good thank you all so much for If you like this video, make sure to give it a thumbs up and if you loved it, hit that subscribe button and hit the notification too because I don't want you to miss out on these fun videos that we put out that have been playing all week. okay see you next time bye hey guys I want to give Ally the biggest shadow because she made our chalice recycling into a gorgeous wardrobe but I love the use of the sun bleached white washboard here, she's absolutely gorgeous, so if you have I made anything we've DIYed before, send it to us on Instagram using the hashtag Star Girl Squad because we have shades of skinny boys, sorry squad.
