May 30, 2021
Now that we are getting closer to building the enclosures at our facility, Ed and I have agreed to take in a few more

animals

from

fans

who can't keep them for various reasons and we will do it now because that way when the exhibit the zoo enclosures are ready for the

animals

, their quarantines should be over, so today we are unpacking in three different parts because they will arrive on three different days. In the first part of this video, we're going to open up this gray banded king snake that just arrived. This snake comes to us from a viewer named January and his family.

Oh, he did a good job packing. I don't think he's shipped many animals before, so he's doing a great job so far. Oh wow, there's a whole note here with it. Awesome, there is so much information here. His name is Sorfang from the orc in World of Warcraft, which is awesome. He is quite slow and clumsy most of the time. He never seems to get agitated or anxious. This is why January had to do it. Bringing him home he will only eat live so January he got this guy from a show but since he only eats live and there were new snake owners it just didn't work out with them but they have had him for about a year and here he is , hey sorfang, oh wow, you're beautiful, oh my god, okay, I see what you mean by slow and heavy, hello, honey, can I take you out?

Would you mind if he did it? This is such a beautiful species of snake, hey friend, how was the shipping? he's beautiful, he seems a little stiff to the touch so i think he's still recovering from the shipping and pushing, i mean this could be the slow moving personality she was talking about, oh okay you're getting moving a little more. that's good, I think the reason he seems a little surprised right now is because when I saw the Fedex delivery guy bringing this to our door, he was spinning it around the corners of the box, it was really spinning, yeah, yes, I saw him yell at him.

I did, I ran outside and said there was a live animal there and he said, "Oh, great, what kind of kind?" No, I didn't think I was just spinning a live animal, so luckily I've never seen it before and I hope it's just temporary I guess I'd call Fedex today and say, "Hey, can't you send that guy that came to my house today because I was spinning a live animal in the box? We've never had that problem before, luckily, and it seems fine, it seems fine, but Yeah, that wasn't a fun thing to watch, so I let the box sit.

Zorfan for a couple of hours so we can calm down after that, it seems like he's a little confused, but he seems healthy, otherwise, you're like a stiff. -Snake body, isn't it? His tongue is three colors. different, right? Yes, it's pink at the bottom, black in the middle and white at the top, that's amazing. Okay, I have to do the obligatory thing. I know you won't like it. care if your forks don't fit all the way in. Did you forget the tip of your tongue? Oh, maybe he just wants to have a tusk because his name is sorfang, yeah, do you want to look like the orc too? here you can suck that tongue there, oh no, your tongue is too long for your mouth, it's got such big, bulging eyes, oh, there you go, you pulled it out then, that's a cool, cool little snake, the reason The main reason January wasn't able to keep him or didn't feel comfortable keeping him is the fact that he only eats live and the great abandoned kings have a sort of specialized diet in the wild, so they can be picky eaters in the wild.
In the wild, gray bandits mainly eat lizards, so it can be difficult to put them on a rodent diet in captivity and they are more likely to eat live than frozen and thawed when it comes to rodents, so what we could try to do because the concern here was that it does not attack its prey. very well, if its prey increases in size then it could risk harming it, you know, a rodent that fights back could bite the snake, that's why we always try to feed the frozen thought whenever possible, so my plan for him and I have been more or less I'm thinking about what to do, but what I think I'll try first is to freeze the thought, we'll see if he takes it.
If not, I'll try sniffing the thawed frozen with a lizard just to make it freeze and then reduce it. the number of scents to see if it works well there you have it, January, you have made it safe and sound and we can't wait to have it on display in the zoo part of our facility. It will be an excellent addition. We can have information. sign everything about them next to your enclosure so people can learn all about gray banded kingsnakes and because of his docile personality, once we can get him to eat frozen thawed regularly we will be able to introduce him to programs as well.
I wouldn't want to stress him out. However, get him out with programs before he eats frozen, I regularly thought, well, I'm going to quarantine this cutie and wait for the next package to arrive, which I think is tomorrow, we just received the second animal in the mail today and It is a giant vinegarón but the interesting thing is that they

sent

it to us in a USPS box. I don't know exactly why it was

sent

like that. I am curious to know if it was from the sending hunter that sent us this animal. or if it was from someone, do you think it was from the USPS that did this?
Maybe the only thing I could think of is that they hold it by those handles, yes, so it will make sure the animal stays upright. Oh, maybe the hunter did it. for that, yeah, that would be great, we always get things through Fedex, so yeah, that's true, it's kind of interesting, although there's a label here that says non-human species in case you're wondering if there was a baby in here. It's not a baby, so let's open this giant vinegar, here we go, yeah, that's a good way to keep it upright and not tilt it at all during transit.
Oh, there's a letter there. I'm so excited that you have this giant vinegar. I have enjoyed having her for the last 11 months. Oh, when I heard you were looking for some inverts, I knew I had to send her to Hunter. It was very kind of you to think of us. I can't wait to have it on display. on the premises, oh hi, and the hunter who sent us this also has his own YouTube channel, his name is Hunter Hulk, go check it out, oh, is he in a mealworm bin?, oh, that would be adorable , are you ready for this, oh, there it is, hello, honey, yes. definitely a girl definitely a girl so although they may look scary, they are actually very docile and how the hell did the hunter get you into this container?
Oh, she's using those front legs, so these long, thin legs in front are actually legs modified to be more antennae than legs that support the body, so she's totally feeling this feather with them to check it out and see what it is. , can you keep going? She's a little scared, so I'll let her out at her own pace and that's totally her. It's okay with me, oh, do you like the drink? Do you feel comfortable in the glass? Hey girl, oh my gosh, the last time I held one of these was at a Tinley show. Yeah, she's super cool.
They have so many modified body parts. You've probably already noticed this, but at the end of their abdomen extends this long tail-shaped structure that is actually used as a pheromone, odor, and vibration sensor to help them detect things around them and these long, thin arms. thin that she has. they have been waving they have legs modified to be more like a cat's whiskers to help them find where they are going, but they are not blind, they have eyes, they have two eyes on the front of their head and then groups of three. eyes on each side of the head, so they have a total of eight eyes and finally I want to say that they only have two main body segments, instead of a head, thorax and abdomen, like insects, they have those three body segments , abdomen, abdomen, okay, there is a whole song.
I'm not going to sing for you in front of the camera because it would be really embarrassing. I think they shouldn't do it now. If you want me to sing the bug song, I'll do it later anyway instead of the three vinegar body parts. it has two like tarantulas and scorpions, its head and thorax are combined into a single segment called cephalothorax and finally, at the front of its body, these large appendages here are small modified pulps that are normally found in tarantulas and these are enlarged and with a structure more similar to a claw because it helps them catch and subdue their prey.
In reality, it is the claws or pincers here and the abdomen that are looked at to sex the vinaigrettes. The claws or pincers here are much smaller in females than in males. However, the abdomen is much larger in females than in males. You are looking at me. Look at her, just feel my wrist. She finds her way with such delicacy in the way she moves. It is very unlikely that she will pinch you with her front claws instead of her main defense. The mechanism is actually to spray you with an 80 to 85 acetic acid solution from the base of their abdomen right here and that's one of the ingredients in vinegar, that's why they're called vinaigreones, so basically, when they're scared, they just they spray and make you smell like vinegar I always thought they were like an aggressive species just because I saw they had these pincers on the front of their body but then I found out they are incredibly friendly it reminds me of a lobster yeah you can see that.
Although males only live seven to eight years, females can live up to 20. So it's like with tarantulas, where the females live much longer, so we'll have her for a long time. I think it's only a couple years old at most. It sounds like this and we'll be able to have it on display in the facility on our inverted wall, which I can't wait because it's a species I never thought we'd have, honestly, but thanks to Hunter we can now teach all kinds of people about them and knowing how friendly they are. are, we can let other people possibly carry it too.
We installed it in her compound. put enough substrate to get over where the base is down here because they need about four to six inches of substrate to dig through, but it seems to hold it well and I think this will be a great habitat for her. I should send it. a photo of her for grace i will include the text its not a spider so its ok for those of you who dont know my sister is terrified of spiders but this is not a spider its an arachnid so i feel its safe to send her a Snapchat about Another fun thing about vinaigrettes is that they can hang upside down, they have a really good grip, it's cool to see their antennae reach all the places you want to check, it's like their way of talking without talking as I see it. she's inspecting my finger here and without those antennae she'd have no idea what she's inspecting here, go look at your cork bark, oh I love her already, maybe we'll make a vinegar care sheet or a care video too, that would be fun. after the tarantula because we still have to make a tarantula that is a good trash hunter, thank you very much for the giant vinegar, she is amazing, we have been like watching her move for the last 15 minutes because it is fascinating, fascinating the way she feels everything around him, so he made it safely.
Thanks again, it will definitely be part of our exhibit and with how friendly it is, it will probably be part of our programs too if that's okay with you, so this is the second animal we will unpack for today's video and the third one, which are some frogs, it will be shipped in three days, so we will unpack it, we will receive them in four days, so see you in four more days and we have our final package for today, the white stray frogs, they were sent to us by a viewer named Zach, who specializes more in geckos than frogs so thought they would fit well with our collection and then be on display in the facility, very nice. for me, for us, he sent us a sticker that's so cool it's going to have to go on our shelves, okay, so one came out, one came out, oh okay, that must have been the Australian blue face, ah, what angry, this is not cork bark.
I don't like styrofoam all over my side sorry buddy, I love how limp White's tree frogs are, he doesn't want to be okay, he's just going to sit there I guess until we can get him out, oh my gosh, look these rolls. -poly frogs, we have our Indonesian one here and then the other Australian one, that's cool, we have two different species that actually emerged from tadpoles, so these are big healthy frogs, let's take a look, my hands have been sprayed with water without chlorine. this is the indonesian oh my god look at the sagging on your forehead oh oh no that's a frog yes it is you're so cute so zack said that on very rare occasions they even eat little pinkies , wow, yeah, that's how big and fast they are.
They are, but of course pinkies are a very occasional gift, but these white street fragments are full of personality. I've never had them before. I have some experience taking care of them, but they will like to jump through the cage to get theirfood and apparently. He wants to hang out with his friend, is this the cool place to be? you just want to relax in the styrofoam box let's get this off your back oh my gosh hello oh my gosh I know we have an 18 by 18 by 24 inch exoterra. make it for them so that should be good for this trio ok well you're going to keep jumping come here let's put you in the deli for now here's the other aussie oh my god you're extra limp , you're just going to climb up okay, okay, that's where you want to sit, so they're a little clumsy, you're so flabby and cute, these are also known as the chubby tree frog because of how plump they are and how similar lumps in which they develop. their heads sometimes and what I really like about these tree frogs is I mean they are big.
This is one of the largest species of tree frogs that is often kept in captivity like you just snuggled into my hand. Did you see that he is like me? comfortable here don't touch my side and as you can see they are very very tolerant of handling hey friend hello you are the one who escaped during the trip how was your adventure outside the deli how other amphibians drink through their skin because they have skin semi-permeable, so by spraying their bodies, you are actually rehydrating the animal. I love them, like blue specks on the top of his head, yeah, that's beautiful, oh yeah, there we go, oh my gosh, he's super nervous, oh gosh, oh god, calm down, calm down. down, it's okay, no, I have to escape all the time every family has that brother, do you feel comfortable sitting on top of your brother or sister's head?
It's very comfortable right now, the two outside here are the Australian white street frogs and the inside one. The one in the middle that jumps everywhere is a white street frog from Indonesia. He also has these larger, more noticeable bumps on his head, so we have one that likes to escape. No, no, come here, this is really going to be impossible, I think so, well, I'm going to put these guys in their new exoterra. I just filled it with some cork bark and climbing things, so we'll let them settle in and I'll probably try to offer them food in a day or two after they've had time to get used to their new home, the other two will be delayed because They like to jump and then he just left, so come here, oh you.
You are so cute, look at that face, oh my gosh Zach, thank you so much for these adorable frogs, we will have a lot of fun with them and maybe feature them well, I'm sure we will include them in some videos in the future as well as on display in our facilities and thank you January for the wonderful gray banded kingsnake. He seems to be adjusting pretty well because we've had him for about a week now, so it took a while to film this video, but the gray banded kingsnake. He seems to be doing very well and finally, thank you hunter for the vinegar.
She's been wonderful too. She is digging in her enclosure, digging everywhere and settling in too, so thank you all for her generosity and for thinking of us for these animals. you couldn't deliver anymore, I promise that we will take very good care of them and use them in educational programs and videos whenever possible, as always, thank you to our patreon patrons and for all your incredible generosity and support, and thank you all. watching our videos and learning more about reptiles and also amphibians and inverts now that we're branching out a little, we'll keep you posted on how all these new additions are doing and we'll see you next time, intense frog stare.
