Triple Play: How to Make 3 NEW Periwinkle Leg Quilts - Free Quilting Tutorial

Mar 18, 2024
I press, I don't know, I don't worry too much now, this is how it is. eight layers I was going to say you're going through a lot there, yeah, so if you need a really sharp blade or you need someone with a stronger shoulder to cut hard, if it's difficult, just cut less layers, that's it. Okay, and you can, the other thing you can do with this is cut it in half in both directions, oh yeah, and then just work with individual squares because not everyone loves cutting layers, you know? I found out, I think it's true.

Well, everyone has preferences that are different, it's not true for me, but it's true, so we have these and then we're going to need our

periwinkle

s for our medium, so now it's going to feel like it's going through butter. because I went through it a lot and a lot thicker before, okay, so let's get here like this, open my sword, oh Natalie, in one of our previous

tutorial

s, you said that you would like to back up a little bit, uh, move forward and I. I've been trying that and it's quite helpful. I have to say it's like you come back first, little notch, because that's where my threads usually come together.

Yes, they also get trapped if you have a spinning M, this is a good time to use it. So now we should have eight of these and four of these and then we're going to put little strips on the sides to

make

this a square and what I did was I cut a strip that was 5 and a half inches wide on the right. here on my backing and then I came and cut two inches, so we're going to cut 2 inch strips and you're going to need two for each of these, so we're just going to come along here and I cut two inches now, see?

I almost cut two and a half. I'm very used to cutting the wi two and a half, this, this rule, that if you did it it would be fine, you would just have more waste and good. and you may not have enough fabric if you have obtained exactly the amount you need for the project. That's exactly it, so I have a little bit more cutting here and I pretty much have all the things that we need to cut, so Natalie, we are. I'll have you sew and I'll have you sew this little strip that will go right along the edge.

Okay, now you can put this together or just leave a little bit up there, but I'm pretty sure. let's just match that that's right I would stick it out like you only need a quarter of an inch on the top you need the extra on the bottom oh so we're sticking this out a quarter and enough I think I matched that those. top oh really yeah so I figured out if it would work either way yeah it'll be fine you just use it exactly you just need the extra one at the bottom okay yeah so when I sew and

make

things literally I just do it from memory.
I just go, go, and then all of a sudden I'm like, wait, where did I put that? You know, but I'm pretty sure I thought I just lined them up, but you know we're going to square up. anyway, like this exactly and then I'm going to have Misty press these, you can move this right and I'm going to clip them so Misty can start pressing awesome and we're going to keep feeding them through you to Okay, are we doing eight for the outside or already I made all eight for the outside, so these are just the inside ones left?
Okay, cool, cool, because they're all made the same and you can see this right here when Put this second leg here now, I call it a leg, but it's actually a strip because we're not using the leg template in this, we're just putting strips, so we're going to put them here and you can see. as far as that goes and then we're just G and again you want to make sure that it just covers the point just like it barely covers it a little bit because you need to get the fabric on the base right so I I always love it when we're at Retreat and someone They see the pattern we're making and they do it more, that's the best part.
I love when that happens, they're talking. I also love seeing all the patterns on different fabrics. Different fabrics exactly CU that can really change the look of the quilt, but we're going to be at a d girls retreat and we're going to be talking and one of us is going to go see Co. We're really excited about it because it's like Taken what we've done, you know, that It's never an insult because we care about what happens, if it's absolutely the best part, I honestly think it's like the biggest compliment, it really is, anyway, we were so delighted with what she had done.
She wanted to share it with you and show you how to do it, so I actually called it, what did I call this one? You called it double perrywinkle, double perrywinkle, so the first one is perrywinkle squared and you can see Misty. do that and then this is the double perrywinkle and here you have perfect girl and then what we're going to do now we have this little perrywinkle here and this is going to be our inside and we're going to square this two I just put I mean where did I put that Rin ? We're going to square this to 5 now you want to square the point, so your point here is going to that point here and you're going to to make sure it lines up on the sides of this point like this and then we're just going to clip these sides right here, so we're going to crop here and here like this and then we're going to Flip this over and crop the other side always keeping this in the corner, so I'm going to do this with all of them and you're going to do this with all of yours too, including I mean, alone with everyone. your blocks are going to go together two by two like this, so we're going to sew them all together like this, aim for the middle stitches, the small stitch on the outside, yeah, small stitch on the inside, okay, so you'll go over here and then this is the same one we're going to go over here and we're going to put them like this, you've already done it, well, I already have my exteriors finished and I have a block made so we can look at the block like this.
Great and oh iron that medium of course they've been folded into a bag so they're all sewn exactly the same way you just put them together and sew them together and it doesn't matter if it's narrow to wide or wide to narrow. Arrow, they just go together and uh, let's press them open, okay, and then I want to show you how it all works when we present it all right, oh, there we go, so I want to show you that even the outside, so here they are sewn from this way and even the outsides are sewn the same way it's super easy so when you put them together although you're going to join the stitches in the middle like this just combine them and then These are going to go around the whole outside and they're going to go to small points, so you're joining them with these.
I mean big points, which I guess is the extreme that you consider the small point, but they come. This way, the big part goes in, so it makes this V kind of like a lava lamp, yeah, oh, the lava lamp, and then you have four or five squares that you cut for the corners that come out here like this and so. I, when I was sewing this, what made everything go really fast was that, you know, I cut out all my squares and then I knew I sewed them all the same for each block and then we went to put them together so you can sew the end.
Both are fine and this seam will take a minute to put together, but I literally want to talk about a few things about this because when you have a nice big block like this, there's a lot of things you can do. It doesn't necessarily have to be a quilt, of course, you know, we've made a quilt three across and one, two, three and four down, so we pulled 12 big blocks out of our stuff, which means we used 36 blocks. because we used three layer cakes for each one, but think about if you wanted to put this up like making a bed runner and just make three or four of these and put them at the end of your bed because you know you have a beautiful quilt and you just want to put up one runner. of bed. on it or a table runner, this makes a great table runner, one of these blocks in the middle with some borders would be great for a square or round table or baby quilt.
I mean, four of these together would make a perfect baby. and then also here you're going to have to sew these two together before you sew the ends okay, and then also on this one um, I mean we're talking about the cutest pillows ever. It's true, I mean, so I'm backing up. about this and this becomes a pillow and I love Big Blocks because there are only so many things you can do with them and well, and once you get to that point it's also very exciting because you know the quilt is going to come together so quickly with those big blocks, yeah, okay, so this one goes here and this one goes here, you're doing it, remember we're doing the diamonds, so this is ours, let me put my block back together. it's up here and when I talk about diamonds, I'm talking about this one here that happens when you put the blocks together and there's a little bit of fabric where it all comes together, yeah, but you know it's okay, that's how it was.
No problem for me and you can just put those seams one way and one way the other and they'll fit together nicely, I just want to make sure I get those

periwinkle

s together, there you go, yeah, so when she's sewing. she's actually matching this first seam right here, the middle seam and the next seam as well and then she can fly down and then if you sew these ends to this one, okay, there you go and then Missy you can press this one. I'll remove some of these things for you. I have enough right there to make another block do something, so here's our middle and you can see how the diamonds come together and match quite easily. a pretty low tension block, so we're going to fold this here, it's going to match up with this seam, it's going to catch this one, this one, this one and that one, and as you're doing that and you're sewing, it's really nice because it keeps everything all aligned just I like them. all those little checkpoints as you go, it just keeps you on track and when you don't have the checkpoints I often get to the end and there's so much more and I'm What did I do there because of that?
Yes, and it probably blows in the dark. I have not tried it. I was going to say that if you put a black light on it, the neons would glow. I bet I have a quilt at home. that you made me, um, the one for Halloween and I walked past it the other night as I walked up the stairs and it glowed in the dark. I love it, it was so fun. I love it, it's amazing and I've had it for a couple of years. Now I think it's that glow in the dark is still going strong, that's great, okay, grab this Missy, okay, Natalie, wait for this, she's three, okay, here we go, girls together, together, we're one way table, what?
Look at us, we're three pillows on the couch or you're going to make 12 of these and you're going to put them together and it's going to be a beautiful block on your quilt right here, it's just beautiful, so much fun anyway.
