Underperformance sometimes is obviously a condition of the people we hire, of course, of course, and sometimes we hire badly and sometimes we make a mistake, that happens, that's okay, sometimes underperformance is a condition of the work environment where they are, let's give people the opportunity. position is guilty of forming a narrative about someone as an underperformer. Oh, they ruin everything. and then what ends up happening is all we do is think of them and treat them as underperformers and all we do is notice the things they do wrong and then when we give them feedback sessions it's usually us correcting things minors over and over and over again to the point where we completely destroy their trust and what I recommend and by the way, we are all guilty of this and I think it is essential that leadership

s check in on each other so that when someone go down the path of creating a narrative that someone is a poor performer, like it's a character defect, we interrupt them and say it's true, what have they done well, what are they good at and if you catch people doing things right instead of always catching them doing things wrong, that

reinforcement is much more

power

ful than catching them doing things wrong.

It's also okay to announce that you expect a lot from

your

people. It's okay to say that we, as an organization, can do better than we have been doing and I think that is everyone's responsibility. us to help each other and try harder and try harder and we are here to help you and train you and for the people who raise their hands and say I'll take the training or for us to offer the training to people who need help. but to me the only time someone should be asked to leave the company is if they prove untrainable and there is no willingness to learn at all, so to answer
