you want. We may be considering this as a side note and I know this may come as a surprise to some of you. I won't be including betta fish in this list because I'm sure you already know that betta fish are a great suggestion for this tank, so let's get started. Let's discuss this before we delve into the 10 suggestions for those of you who really want to use this tank for a betta fish, feel free to check out my playlist on some of the care guides and tips I have specifically for bettas as a preface.

For this list, this list is more of a starting guide for you to see what options are available to you. This is by no means a comprehensive care guide for any of these species, so be sure to do your research once you've researched the list, so enough wasting time, let's get straight to the list. My first suggestion would be freshwater shrimp. Generally, you have four options that are readily available when it comes to freshwater shrimp. You have amano shrimp, ghost shrimp, cherry red shrimp, which are also neocaridines. like the crystal reds that are carradino along with these different options, carradinos and neocaridinas come in a lot of different colors so there is plenty to choose from.

I would say that of the four, the ones most available at those big box retailers would be Cherry Red Shrimp and Ghost Shrimp When it comes to choosing between carradines and neocaridins, you'll generally want to check your tap water and see if it's naturally soft. or naturally hard. Neocaridines tend to thrive best in hard water, while caridines tend to thrive. better in soft water, I have personally had more success with neocaridinas because tap water is naturally harder. Neocaridines can be a great breeding project because they breed relatively easily in general. I think it's really fun to watch shrimp when you see them grazing. around the different corners of your tank, so I highly recommend you research shrimp regarding the Marineland 5 Gallon Vertical Tank.

You may want to make some modifications to ensure your shrimp don't get sucked into the entrance. My second suggestion would be a pea balloon, so considering the size of the tank, the level of aggression pea balloons can have, as well as keeping things simple, I would highly suggest making an all species tank, only a balloon of peas in tank one. and voila and no tank mates, I wouldn't worry too much because the pea balloons have a lot of personality within their small package, you should be fine even if they are the only thing in the tank, if you really want to consider that the tank probably makes you can get away with yours but there are a number of factors you need to consider so I won't even go into that pea puffers can be quite picky about what they like to eat so research that too and they will live for as long as 8-10 years , so you really have to consider that I think pea balloons are incredibly adorable and the good thing is that they will eventually see you as their master and owner, so they will be like a little dog inside your tank and I will approach the glass when you do.

My third suggestion would be Endler Guppies. If you decide to go this route, I highly suggest choosing between two and three male guppies. You can choose between two and three female guppies, but in general the male guppies have better coloration. and longer fins, but it's really up to you, what I don't recommend is mixing the sexes because antlered guppies can reproduce relatively quickly, so before you know it, they can outgrow your overall 5 gallon tank. I think endlers are a great option for beginners. You can find them basically anywhere and they are pretty easy to feed. They are not so demanding.
The reason I really like Endler Guppies is because they come in a lot of different patterns, different colorations and it's really entertaining to see my fourth suggestion. They would be narrative snails or mystery snails. I personally prefer narrative snails to mystery snails, but both are very good options with mystery snails, you will definitely need a cover because they are known to be escape artists. The good thing is the 5 gallon terrestrial marine portrait tank. It comes with the lid. Mystery snails tend to be larger than their snails, but I like the closer nails because they come in many different colors and patterns, specifically with snails.
I recommend you add this suggestion to any of the other fish on the list. The caveat near their nails is that over time you will see them lay these little individual eggs all over the tank, but I have gotten used to it and don't really mind mystery snails, they also lay eggs, but they tend to leave. above the water line and put them there generally I think they are a great suggestion if you just want to make a tank just for snails or if you want to add it to any of the suggestions on this list I would say be a little careful if are thinking about adding it to a pea balloon tank, it's a question of whether that will be successful or not.
My fifth suggestion would be foamy gouramis or pygmy gouramis, specifically with foamy gouramis I would just suggest putting three in a five gallon tank similar to betas. They have a labyrinth organ, so they will swim to the top to get some air, so keep that in mind with your five gallon tank and make sure that when you fill it with water there is a layer of air on top with glowing gas. Gouramis can be quite skittish so you should definitely plant your tank as much as you can and also make sure the light isn't too bright and we all know the 5 gallon marine portrait tank doesn't have the bracelet so I guess. that's good, another benefit of this specific tank for this species.
Shiny gouramis are known to be jumpers so you will be covered in that department, they are only one to an inch and a half long so they are a great choice for this tank and Lastly, similar to betas, they do not They like high flow, so if you want to see the modifications I have to avoid, be sure to watch this video. My sixth suggestion would be Crystal Pearl Danios, so these fish always want to be with. a group I would suggest at least six in terms of swimming patterns, they don't really study, tend to show off and aren't overly active which is ideal for this size tank similar to the sparkling grommies in the previous section. cpds would definitely prefer a heavily planted tank as well as low to medium light throughout, i would say cpds are not the hardiest fish on this list.
My only suggestion with this is that the breeder they come from has a high quality population and also has a good quarantine. The process wouldn't hurt either. My seventh suggestion would be chili rasbora. I'll be honest, I sometimes pass them on at fishmongers because they don't really look that exciting, but the really nice thing about chili rasboras is that once. you bring them home once they settle in your tank and grow a few months they will color in this really beautiful deep red. Given that fact, I recommend that you plant your tank a lot so that they stand out within that green background with chile rasboras.
They like to go to school, so they would be better off in a group of at least six, but it wouldn't go much higher if you kept them in a five gallon tank. The only thing I would say about this fish is that they are friendly. They are finicky when it comes to eating, they like to eat in the water column so not at the top or bottom and they have small amounts so do your research, see what worked for others, see what didn't. My eighth suggestion would be the green one. Neon Tetra I'm sure you've already seen neon tetras and cardinal tetras, but I highly suggest you look at the green neon tetras because they are still smaller and since they are still smaller, they work perfect for this tank.
They are half-water students. so I'll keep them to a minimum group of six. One thing to keep in mind is that if you get wild-caught neon green tetras compared to captive-bred ones, they can be a little finicky in terms of diseases and what they like to eat. Make sure you have a good quarantine process and also research how to convert them to hopefully dry foods because you will probably have to start with live and frozen foods first. I would say that neon green tetras are not as affordable compared to neons and cardinals, but if you ever see them in your store, I suggest you look at them.
My ninth suggestion would be a rented killi. These fish are incredibly small, the males max out at three quarters of an inch and the females are a little larger than that, I specifically added them to my list for those of you not looking for an overly brightly colored fish. These killifish have a tan body and a black stripe running through it. Know your water parameters, you will most likely have to buy a heater and they work better in hard water compared to soft water, so double check your tap water. My last and final suggestion, which is number 10, would be the white cloud mountain minnow as a name. suggests that these originate from the White Cloud Mountains within China, specifically streams, keeping in mind that this fish prefers flow within its tank and if you know anything about the Marineland 5 Gallon Porch Tank you will know that the filter has a significant current which creates for some reason this fish has been known as the poor man's neon but I don't think that does this fish justice it is a great fish for beginners it is cheap it is easily accessible it can handle a wide variety of parameters and I think you really can't go wrong with this fish, they come in a few versions, you can find them in long fin gold color and in the normal type.
Two other benefits that come with this fish is that you most likely won't need them. a heater and are not picky at all when it comes to feeding despite their small mouth, so they are not convinced yet. Well there you have it, those were 10 storage tips for your Marineland 5 Gallon Upright Tank again if you decide to go for something. on this list, make sure you do your research, do your due diligence if this video brought you any value, make sure to like, share, comment and subscribe.
